This was a great video! The one thing I would advise is to not boil rocks, because sometimes they can explode. I know that you can clean them off using hydrogen peroxide to make it safe for fish, although this might not work with turtles, but it should be just fine to my knowledge. I've boiled rocks before and I've been perfectly fine, but I wouldn't advise it on the off chance it would explode. Great video though, even though I probably won't get a turtle anytime soon your videos have really made me want to get one! So cute and personable.
That is true, I have heard a couple instances where this has happened. Thanks for the tip! Yes, hydrogen peroxide or a diluted bleach dip is another option. Glad I could make you want a turtle ;) They do make great pets as long as you know what you're getting into! Thanks for watching!! :D
@@avagueblur hi i just saw this, if it's okay to ask, i have a monstera and a devil's ivy pothos, will it be safe to put it in the tank of my Chinese Softshell Turtle and for the turtle to eat?
Your videos are super helpful! I have two turtles and I’m getting them a new tank sometime this week or next week and your videos really help me! Thank You!
Before I found that my turtle eats everything. I spent 28 dollars on live plants hoping that snails would be there to provide food and free algae cleaners but when I put them in, I threw away the package and go back to find just roots floating.
Quick question(s): Do I need to worry about our baby turtle getting stuck between rocks? Context: I have a somewhat densely planted tank with platys, ghost shrimp and snails. I have provided quite a few hiding spots for everything in there - I am planning on putting the turtle in pretty soon, but have hesitated. Will the turtle (Mississippi map
Possibly...did I say sliders and painteds are more herbivorous? If I did, then that is actually correct, as in the wild, adults tend to eat more vegetation (even though those types of turtles also love to hunt and chase fish haha)
What kind of fish do you keep with your turtle? I know it's a big possibility that my turtle will eat whatever fish I put with her, but which kind have a fighting chance?
I have a female West African Mud turtle and a male Red Ear Slider. I want to set up a very large paludarium gor them eventually so, would terrestrial plants be an issue? (Like non sporophytes and poisonous plants of course)
What are your thoughts on bamboo? I like the look and they help clean the water but are they safe for the turtle buddies? I see yes and no across the net so i'm not sure on where the stance is.
What substrate do you recommend for a planted turtle tank? Was going to go with eco complete but it’s more of a gravel and I don’t want to risk my turtles eating it.
Hi I have a yellow belly sliders and they have destroyed just about everything but the rocks I put in their tank. I wanted to try to put lucky bamboo in their. I know true bamboo can be toxic to animals but since lucky bamboo isn’t true bamboo I was wondering if you ever tried it and is it safe to put in the tank.
I don’t know if could see this, but veggies that I feed my red eared sliders always get stuck in my water filter. Does this ever happen to you? I’m afraid that if I get live plants, it’s gonna be the same thing. Turtles are not clean eaters lol
cyburn godzilla pothos are vine-like plants that you just drape in, they don’t require anything other than just being in the water. They grow fast and will need to be cut and trimmed down often
I was going to say you needed to name some of the plants that can be put in that are safe and you did. Good job. Yes I have 5 turtles, two RES and three maps. My female devours anything that goes in her tank so no plants in there, LOL..I was thinking about trying with the others so one tank at a time. have a great weekend.
Yes, thank you! The names are also written in the description. LOL I have the same problem with my eastern painted, he loved munching on my anubias and duckweed. Thanks for stopping by!
I just got my yellow-belly a new tank, and it’s pretty empty bc our other tank was way smaller and had a lot less accessories needed. Also, he’s pretty scared. Any advice? Love ur vids and tysm! 🐢 💚💚
Yes, you can. If possible, soak them in hot water. Don't use soap!!! Test the rocks by putting vinegar on them. If it fizzes, then know it will change the parameters of the water.
Based on my experience, surprisingly i concern about GH, cooter, painted and slider can get the effect from high gh, the result is mineral deposit, thats make em ugly, and must wait em to shell shedding,
Great channel and Thanx for the many good ideas. I would avoid the word decorate and the emphasis on owner appeasment. Maybe ‘replicate’ is better - the creation of a natural environment with rocks, wood and strongly encouraging REAL plants is the most important criteria. I’ve seen horrific ‘decorated’ tanks including one decorated as a disco with flashing neon lights - probably a form of torture for the poor turtle. Cheers.
The Turtle Girl That is what ai have researched and have concluded too. Thanks for the reply. You are a wealth of knowledge to me. My little ‘dinosaurs’ say thanks.
My tank can look ugly cuz my turtle makes it look beautiful. Also does anyone know a good filter that does cost tons of money ($50-$100) cuz i got the uv light but not the filter and i have to clean the tank everyday and i know taking the turtle out the tank a lot can effect her
Please make a video about turtles poop cause my turtle keeps pooping and I didn’t pick him up by the side sometimes I think it’s because of the food but I don’t know
I just googled the food you are feeding and it seems fine. What type of turtle is it? Some just don't like eating their vegetables....also what type of veggies are you feeding? I wouldn't worry too much about pooping constantly, (just make sure you're keeping the water clean!), and if it persists, see if you can schedule an appointment with an exotic animal vet.

The Turtle Girl you no longer use the crystal black sand in this video anymore. Was there any problem with it? I’m thinking of using the same.
I have rocks in my turtle tank and literally their in a different patter each day
Haha
Same!!!!!!!!
0:41 LOL that turtle came to the camera like he knew you was talking about him awwwww
I have convict cichlids too in my fly river turtle tank and they're great! They are so hardy and do really well with turtles! :D

Excellent advice and excellent video stars! Hoku and Nemo are so photogenic! (And sleeping Nemo is the cutest!)
Thank you so much!! ;)
i just got 2 female black convict cichlids in my tyrtle tank last night, theyre doing great with the turtles
Hey! Your videos are soooo helpful, i wish i found it sooner as i was struggling with my sliders. Thumbs up 🍀
glad it could help you!
@Rifa Tasnia how are your turtles
I love ❤️ decorating turtle tanks and spend hours doing it(;!
it's definitely fun!
No way, with my turtles nothing alive can't survive
Ha, I feel you. I just have rocks and wood with my turtle because they destroy any live plants.
@@TheTurtleGirl Yeah I'm finding this out now. I have a pothos in there that I feel like just get smaller and smaller. T-T

Thanks so much Dee!

Glad to hear it! That's awesome, I'm sure they'll love all the extra space.
Huge thumbs up friend
Can you use marble rocks as a substrate? What would you recommend for a red ear slider for live plant decor?
Can you make a video about turtle diet/food ???and Love your videos 💯
Yes, I plan on doing it, probably going to break it down into several videos.
What substrate do you use?
Kris Borth i think she uses normal aquarium sand

Videos great I think you got the turtle types mixed when it came to which ones prefer plants and which ones prefer carnivorous

I keep convict cichlids, and I actually just did a video about it :) ua-cam.com/video/OcYwscQaZJA/v-deo.html
I keep plecos clown loaches and tiger barbs with my southern painted slider.
I have a bunch of stuff with my turtles.
Trenton Vohl how was the turtle when you start putting fish with it ?
Trenton Vohl o
im getting a painted turtle, can I use the same lighting for basking for the plants as well or do I need different lighting
Im learning so much thanks to you 🙏

Do you know a good place to purchase common musk turtles online? My lfs doesn't ever get them in.
Love ur vids. I have a turtle that my wife bought. I hated that she bought a turtle 🐢 and then I fell in love with it.

What substrate do you recommend for a planted turtle tank? Was going to go with eco complete but it’s more of a gravel and I don’t want to risk my turtles eating it.
I think the ebst solution is just to search what plant they dont like to eat,put them in and pray.
Worked for me.
always love the videos!!!

Can you please do a video on sickness in turtles like stress, salmonella and how to avoid it and a video about best treats for your turtle
java moss grows like crazy!
It does!! I have some in a small nano tank, it has really taken off :D
Question: What type of turtle do you have? And where did you get it?
I don’t know if could see this, but veggies that I feed my red eared sliders always get stuck in my water filter. Does this ever happen to you? I’m afraid that if I get live plants, it’s gonna be the same thing. Turtles are not clean eaters lol
How about moss balls does that harm the turtle(i have 2 baby turtles and i want to make sure they like their tank)
Ive used them, it can get pretty messy though if the turtle bites them
Does your sand get sucked up in your filter ? I want to add sand to mine but was told that my canister filter would suffer if I did.
What kind of substrate do you use?? I really like that it’s black! It’s beautiful
it's black diamond blasting sand from tractor supply co. Make sure you rinse it well, but I like it :)
Wendy E its just normal aquarium sand l think
I was thinking to add plant but question is do i need to put soil or dirt first

plastic fish decorations are always a safe bet. it can take some time for them to get used to you so don't stress if he seems shy :)
@@TheTurtleGirl ok tysm! I will update soon!
Turtle Girl where do you think a Turtle goes when He dies? Are they reborn or go to a better place?
I live near the ocean on the east coast of Maine, is it safe to use large rocks from the beach if I scrub them clean?
Yes, you can. If possible, soak them in hot water. Don't use soap!!! Test the rocks by putting vinegar on them. If it fizzes, then know it will change the parameters of the water.
Thank you! LOVE your videos, so very informative...my faith in young people is being restored everyday!

Very gooooood videooooo
Where did u get ur Diamondback Terrapin
Is plant fertilizer safe for aquatic turtles? Like for example API Leaf Zone?
I'd imagine so....turtles don't necessarily "breath" the water and if it's safe for fish.....but don't quote me on that.
Where did you get your painted turtle
He was adopted from the midatlantic turtle and tortoise society. www.matts-turtles.org
thank you I really needed to know this because I would have did everything wrong
Glad I could help Jermonte! Thanks for watching!

what type of live plants do you use?
You can probably put lucky bamboo
very nice
Thank you for watching and stopping by!
So can I just go outside and collect sticks? All I have to do is soak them? I'm confused
As long as you think the turtle wouldnt eat them, yeah
I have yet to decorate the turtle tank....we have some shells in ours.
When is the next up date?
haha it's been a while since this video came out! you can see other videos about this tank on my channel :)
As I like to say, turtle tank decorations are a compromise between you and the turtle 😂
What if my turtle eats the bark of wood?
What do u use for editing videos
Just imovie right now :) Thanks for stopping by!
The Turtle Girl no problem I love your videos btw
Can you put a sucker fish in your turtle tank with your turtle
is JAVA MOSS ok?
it can be. although I feel like a turtle might make a mess out of it haha!
Is pothos ok?
Yes, you can put pothos in the filter etc. But I'm not sure if it is safe if the turtle eats it.
The Turtle Girl That is what ai have researched and have concluded too. Thanks for the reply. You are a wealth of knowledge to me. My little ‘dinosaurs’ say thanks.
What do I do if my turtles bite into the natural leaves and my tank starts making louddddd noises😩😩🤦🏽♀️
Thats normal dont worry
You should add more water so that it reaches the propeller on the filter. Also my turtle bites the leaves and it’s sooo annoying
Do you live in Canada?
No, I do not :)

What about fake coral reefs?
Can you put decorations, like ones you would put in an aquarium, in a tank?
Yes but turtles are kind of oafs and they push everything around haha
pleas tell me how do you clean a big tank in winter?
I just do normal water changes, but if the water is shut off outside, then I use a 5 gallon bucket to get water from the shower/bathtub.
The Turtle Girl Ok thank you! 😊
My turtle doesn’t like vegetables
