  • This video is made for Adam Ullrich at Derby City Drums. Enjoy sir!
This is an oldschool technique for installing compression fit reinforcement rings. The goal of this is to create and outward tension on the shell, which supports higher tunings and adds attack at lower tuning. Used by Rogers, Camco, early dw and many other custom builders. This is not the same as just adding extra material at the end of the drum. This is a very specific sound you don't get other ways. Especially at higher jazz tunings.

Do you route the inside edge any differently or at a different angle than a drum without a re-ring?

Is this the same process for installing the locating collar/ring in your nesting bass drum and floor tom shells?

It is! Makes for a very stable lock between the shells and eliminates buzz.

Thanks! I just ordered some reinforcement rings and was wondering how to install. They are too big to just fit in. Cheers!

Tighter is definitely better than loose.

Use a brush next time. Also, no need for glue on both surfaces. More glue doesn't mean better bond...

Super constructive suggestions from the guy with no content.
Brushes create waste and serve no other purpose than to keep my finger clean. But water does that.
When compressing one piece inside the other, it takes lubing up both pieces. Just cause there's glue on both pieces doesn't mean there's too much. Very minimal glue to clean.
