Good info man , I have an 04 4wd . I feel you on the mpg 😢 I go off-road a lot mostly for upland hunting camping 🏕️. The info on the upper control arms n rear leafs is what I believe I’m lacking 👍🏽. Thanks for the tip. Happy trails.😎
Great setup. I think I might get the same yr ,and Model. Low miles but Its sat 2-3 yrs, Bad fuel pump. I'll give it look at it.Hope its a diamond in the Rough..
I like the suspension mods. I might have to adopt those. I have an 03 Tundra 4x4 extended cab with 320k mi and going strong. Got replacement CJV axles the orig axles finally gave out. I like those Fox, deaver leafs and rear ARB lockers. I have brut Force winch bumpers. Kids are gone. I camp by myself or take the grandkids. Thx for sharing🤙
Jerry- Thanks for the comment. I will have a new video out soon addressing this issue, but... Do Not Buy SPC Control Arms. They have an updated design but I have not been happy with the company after having a catastrophic upper control arm failure at under 20,000 miles. I used SPC because I didn't want to have to rebuild uniball arms. After knowing what I now know- go uniball. Be sure to check out Archive Garage- I really like their products. Best! AD
Awesome trucks, I really want a Double Cab myself. Thank you for the support, glad everything worked out. Archive recently completed several rear suspension kits for these great trucks.
Yes, first gens are the best. Mine is 22 years old, but still runs like a top. Yours is getting 10 mpg? Not good. Mine gets 20 on the freeway. I kept busy pulling people out of the snow last winter too. I wonder why yours gets such shitty mileage? I'm running 285-70R17 dura trac's on mine. Its unstoppable..
I have two Tundra's and choose to drive the 1st Gen over my 2021! As far as mileage is concerned I think it is when and how I drive my trucks. I don't do any driving around around town unless I am hauling supplies. All of the mileage my trucks see is usually fully loaded with five people, dogs, and gear. We are usually are towing or have the roof top tent on. Driving in town often involves carrying ten sheets of 18mm plywood.
By deck rail I am assuming you are talking about the bed rack/tent platform. That is the Thule XSporter Pro. Pricey but I have been very happy. We can fit our rooftop tent and two bikes or a small rocket box and the tent. I only used it for a couple of years and put the topper back on- hard to have dogs without a topper. We chose the Thule over other options because it was adjustable and because it would go low (the Yakima is really tall). I had previously welded a DIY solution but I needed the height adjustability. I am going to put the Thule and the CVT tent up for sale soon. If, on the other had, you were talking about the truck drawers- follow along. I am currently prototyping truck drawers for these first gen trucks. Best! AD
Awesome video. There is not way you only get 10 minutes per gallon. On my 2000 Toyota Tundra 4.7 4x4 extended can suicidal doors I’m getting 20 mph on highway stuck wit 245/75/16 . I absolutely love my tundra
@@gregfisher9169 no I just went to Oregon on my 2000 Toyota Tundra V8 4.7 from Utah 80 mph from Utah to Idaho then 65 in Oregon. It gets good mpg . My other 2003 Toyota Tundra 3.4 V6 2wd gets about the same. My 4.7 V8 more power 4x4 and same mpg. Maybe you have the 5.7 haha that one get about 10 mpg
255/80/17 & 255/85/16 are my favorite tire size. Tall and skinny and fit on most rigs without significant mods. The VSC (Stability control) in my Tundra had a hard time adjusting to my lift. I found that slightly lowering the front end helped to keep the nannies (VSC) from beeping on sharp mountain road corners. Since I have slightly lowered the front end the tires still fit but rub slightly when reversing and turning. Not really an issue except for when I have chains on. I think slightly smaller tires will help fit chains. Another reason, I am not sold on the ST Maxx tires. I find that they allow too much lateral sliding on snow covered/icy roads. Think hunting on slightly angled two track roads- I have had some hairy down hill/side hill slides with these tires. My next tires will be BFG AT's (currently running on my 2021 Tundra). BFG does not offer the ATs in 255, only MT tires. I don't want to go any wider so I am limited to slightly shorter tires. Also, these tires are generally E rated which is great but they are heavy. Unless you are running them on a fullsize V8 rig you will notice the weight and size of the tires. I had them on my '04 F350 and an '01 Chevy 2500- didn't even know they were there. I put 255/85 on an '02 Trooper I had and I definitely noticed the weight. Feel free to ask any other questions as I have quite a bit of experience with this tire size.
I still call them first. We have been ordering from them for years. I have received several broken shipments (not their fault). Every time they bend over backwards to correct the issue. They have earned my business the old fashioned way.
fantastic Set up, are you here in boise Idaho? I think I've seen that truck and I'd like to pick your brain. I have the same truck and I'm going in a little different direction and would love to get your thoughts. I'm in boise
Thanks for the video, I just bought a 2006 tundra with a cheap lift on and I’m going to replace it with a proper 2.5 inch coil overs and uca’s, I am wondering what else you did to your rearend to make it somewhat level? I know you replaced the springs but I’ve read that only gives you 1.5 inches, do you have a block? Also thanks for the visual or the 255/80r17, I just ordered Toyo rt’s in that size. I would like to go a similar route like you but I’m on a fixed budget and can probably do the springs later. Maybe some airbags cause I’m trying to convince my wife to let me buy a four wheel camper:) I live in Idaho, is that where you say you’re from?
We are based in Boise. Welcome to the 1st Gen Club! I was trying to keep my overall height as low as possible while still getting beefy components. I don't have the numbers in front of me but my rear suspension netted about 2" without trailer but my bed full of typical loadout. Trailer tongue brought the height down to the 1" over stock height range. I would try to go lower if I could. One advantage of the Fox coilovers is adjustable height- I have played with mine several times to dial in ride height. I cannot recommend the rear Deavers enough. Part of the rear suspension rebuild included Archive Super Bumps which I also really like. Given how soft factory rear leafs are you may want to look into an add a leaf system.
@@adventuredad1180 awesome, I am in Boise as well. I hope to see your tundra around. I called Boise spring works to see if they did anything like that deaver set up and it sounded like he would just do an add a leaf which I could buy and do myself. Ya I like your ride height and I would like to do the same. I don’t think fox is in my budget but I might be able to pull off old man emu or icon set up. Thanks for the info, hope to See you driving around. Mine is a black limited with trd premium wheels.
DK, I seem to remember you asking about our truck drawers. I am prototyping a design right now and am looking for feedback. If you are interested please let me know. Best! AD

“Big American made in the USA guy” and Drives a Toyota 😅 no but seriously sweet setup! Have me sold on those rear leaf springs my are shot! I’m curious to know how much lift it gave you? I’m In the process of gathering everything need to do a front 3 link conversion, still don’t know exactly what my ride height will be.
I have a 2004 Tundra DC 4X4 and thinking of adding a rear locker or an Eaton TrueTrac differential.
