Storm Surge flooding across portions of Naples. Florida as Hurricane Ian wrecked the region. Residents grabbed belongings walking out of the flood waters as their homes were inundated.

One measuring station in SETX recorded over 68" of rain on about 4.5 days. At one period, the rainfall rate was measured at 1 foot per hour. No way into or out of SETX by land. Interstate 10, US 69. US 96, US 287 ALL had several feet of water over them & were impassable for an extended period. Some homes had 3 feet or more water over top of their roofs. NONE of this was storm surge, just incessant, never ending, torrential tropical rainfall.

Katrina hit us here in South Louisiana and this is so like that same scenario and really heartbreaking to see this. Brings back horrible memories of our state. Praying for all of you.
I lived in Naples, Florida for 20 years, and lived through at least 10 hurricanes. But the most devastating hurricane was "Irma". That was the last drop in the glass, when I nearly got nervous breakdown, and almost lost everything I had. This is heart breaking, I feel sorry for those still live there. During Irma, I was on my knees, bagging for mercy! And I promised to myself "if I live through this, I'll leave for ever, and never go back to Florida"! Glad I did! Those who suffer now, stay strong and use common sense. This will happen every year. My prayer goes out to all, love from Hungary.

I recognize this neighborhood. I used to live here. I used to ride by bike and cross that busy airport road intersection. Wow it’s flooded. I never experienced flood in Florida when I grew up there.

So sad. I got flooded during Harvey. I have to tell you the water didn't come through the front door or back door. It came in every where. Prayers for all whom are being affected.

If I had to evacuate today, I wouldn't be able to - I don't have enough money to fill the tank of my truck today. So, I understand why a whole family may not be able to evacuate or get anyone to help evacuate them all together. There should be a ton more help from the state for evacuating people!!
Just so you are aware the shelters will come and pick you up if you call early enough.
They had enough time and the Cities OFFER FREE RIDES TO SHELTERS. THEY ARE SIMPLY STUPID. PERIOD.

It was good at least in this area of town, the water wasn't high enough that people drowned, like in Katrina. Unfortunately, in some areas the water did get very high.

How bad is the flooding in the Santa-Barbara Rd & Rattlesnake Hammock Rd Intersection areas? I've got family there, and last I heard, there's no power. With Irma, they got lucky--Even though the surge flooded the neighboring Lely resort homes, it never flooded their tiny subdivision's homes (just crept up the driveways). I'm not so sure about it this time around, and I haven't heard anything since the last update around 4 or 5 pm...
I have a friend who lives in lely, which us about 2 miles from that intersection. Have been trying to reach her since last night. No response. Sounds bad.

Are shelters really that safe? Some couldn’t get out because of all the traffic. Another channel I listen to talked about a shelter they went to during another hurricane and they said never again, it’s a nightmare.
@@marleneppaul The SuperDome in New Orleans was used as a shelter during Katrina in 2005. Thousands of absolute horror stories came out of there.
From what I've seen over the decades, caring, compassionate churches provide the best shelters.....but I'm definitely NOT talking about the "mega-churches" of phony "televangelists".

That area was not under the predictions of beimg hit until late last night. Not much time to evacuate. Also, some people dont have where to go. Is very easy to judge when you dont walk their pathbin their shoes
Once the prediction is in your region consider being hit. The hurricanes do their own thing when they are approaching......no bull's eye for them.
With how unstable everything is with jobs and income, people can’t just pick up and leave and tell their boss I’m going to leave for a little while till this is over. I’m seeing the same judgment on other comments. Compassion has been lost in this evil world and be happy it’s not you having to make split second decisions while someone else criticizes you. We do not know everyone’s circumstances and why they made the choices they made. At least they still get a choice but the way this world is going and by the sounds of some comments, we won’t have choices in the future they will be made for us. Watch what you wish for
