    In today’s world, there is so much “fake” in every corner of everything. Rest assured that there is still only one Davie McPhale! There is still one “Master” of the “fly” Davie McPhale. Best wishes Davie for a long life and many more fly tying videos. Best regards, from the Catskill Mountains, Richard

    Hi Davie, I have struggled for fish over the last 3 weeks, tried wet flies, spiders and nymphs, I ordered these materials from GAC and tied this pattern. They did not have the Aero wing in stock so I used parra post . Tried it this afternoon, there was a couple of fish rising. Got a nice fish on the first cast. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge and skills.

      Hi Noel Hogan,
      Well done and I hope they keep working for you, remember to tye a few smaller as the season goes on and replace the hackle with just a bit of black dubbing...

    Much cleaner look pulling up the hackle and using your resin than cutting them imo. Will try that for the hackle on my CDC emergers next time too

    Davie, Zelon is widely available in the U.S. I haven't had any luck finding the aero dry wing material though. I finally found some here but it is really expensive! I am not sure how much material is on a card. I found a retailer but they are out of stock. Must be really popular. All the best and thanks for sharing. Sean

    I'd be tempted to add a pair of trailing legs to that, Davie. What thinks you?

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  3 місяці тому

      Hi @puccini4530,
      Legs wouldn't do the fly any harm as it's a perfect pattern to add them to..

    Hi Davie, again what a lovely pattern! Can you tell me the vital info of the Metallic red thread as wheight, colornumber as also for the metallic pearl thread in the video 'Tying my Best All Round Nymph Patterns'? Which weightclasses for different sizes of hooks would be good to use? Thanks again Davie!

      @DavieMcPhail  6 років тому

      Hi Brian,
      I have attached a link to the red metallic thread which is number 15 and the pearl is number 300..
      I tye the all-rounder mostly on size 16s to 12s though I like them on size 18s at times for the river...I hope this helps you and thanks for the kind words...

    I love this pattern and I'm curious about this Aero Dry Wing material. I brought back some white Zelon to the UK that a colleague gave me after we fished the Provo river on a size 20 midge pattern and that stuff really holds it's shape in the water and produces a great midge silhouette and scatters a lot of light. The Zelon fished really well there and I was looking for something comparable in the UK as it's only available from a couple of places in the USA. Do you have any experience of Zelon? Does the Aero Wing material compare directly..?.. it certainly looks like it might keep it's shape better than Antron with a dunking so it looks close to Zelon.

      Hi Andrew Smith,
      I do know of Zelon as I was lucky enough to watch a gentleman many years ago tye flies with this materials, his name was John Betts www.reellinespress.com/john-betts.html He tyed all his flies with the white Zelon and he would colour it with a marker pen to suit the flies coming off..I did buy a packet off him but unfortunately I can't find it as I would like to compare it to the Aero Dry Wing, though I would say they are different as the Zelon if I remember right is slightly softer..If I come across it I'll let you know what I think...I've attached a couple of links to other winging materials worth looking at as well..

    hi Davie, great tie as always. I saw aero wing in a catalog awhile back. cool concept, like hollow fill insulation from the 70s. kind of pricey though, don't know how much you get for the for money. you said you fished with it? I think you tied that like your hackled comparadun? sure looks nice. appropriate for this time, I saw a black midge on my porch today! no more than 4mm long, upright dark heavily vained wings. tomorrow is our traditional trout opener too!

      Hi Joe Duca,
      I've never counted how many flies you get from a packet but I have tyed a few flies over the years and if I remember right I'm into my third packet I would think that I get at least fifty flies from size 14s to size 10s...If you look at a standard packet of CDC you'll get just as many flies as you would from a card of the Areo Dry Wing...We had a great day yesterday and there were many flies around but unfortunately the weather is not very good today and as far as I believe the same over the weekend...I'm glad you liked the fly...
      All the very best Davie

      +Davie McPhail Thanks for the reply Davie. I couldn't comment or reply yesterday, problems with tablet. maybe an April fools joke, wasn't funny to me! we must have the same weather. rain, wind, temperature 70 dropped to 40s. today wind gusts 40 to 50 mph. Sunday snow! atb Davie.

    How many different types of mayflies and trout edible flies are there?

    Great fly and explanation. For a size 16, would you reduce the amount of aero wing used?

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Paul,
      I would reduce it by at least a third though it's worth while experimenting a little to get the fly you are tying to look the way you want and especially float well...I'm glad you liked the fly...
      All the very best Davie.

    Hi Davie. Great fly tying videos. Just wondering how good the aero wing would be if used on shuttlecocks to replace cdc. Have you tried it?

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  6 років тому +2

      Hi B Laidlaw,
      I've used the Area-Wing and a few other materials instead of CDC over the years and I even wrote an article about using grey bootlaces to tye shuttlecocks and as well a fly I still use today a small bootlace dun which I have caught many a fish on..I was thinking of doing a video on it as I still get asked about it..I'm glad you liked the fly...
      All the very best Davie...

      Hi again Davie. I've tied a couple of buzzers up with the aero wing and gonna give them a try tomorrow at Harlaw reservoir. Your tying skills/ideas are top rate and your videos have inspired me to start tying my own again. Keep up the good work. Tight lines and best wishes. Bryan Laidlaw
