-- Somatic Meditation For Chronic Pain --
Chronic pain is one of the most frustrating conditions a person can encounter in their life.
The fact is, our medical system is poorly equipped to diagnose and treat chronic pain.
Why?
Well, you might think it has to do with a lack of research, or maybe that we don’t have the right tools and technology.
Or maybe doctors can’t treat chronic pain because there simply isn’t a solution -- chronic pain is just a part of everybody’s life, especially as we all get older.
But actually…
Our medical system does poorly with chronic pain not because we don’t have the right resources, but because of our world view.
You see, worldview is EVERYTHING.
How you see a problem determines how you go about fixing it.
And unfortunately, our medical system sees pain -- chronic or otherwise -- as a “body problem.”
i.e. something is broken at the body level.
Your muscles are too tight… so they prescribe muscle relaxers.
Your nerves are inflamed… so they prescribe painkillers.
Your spine is crooked… so they do surgery to fix it.
The problem is…
Most cases of pain -- lower back pain, in particular -- are “non-specific,” meaning not connected to any diagnosable disease or pathology.
According to spinal surgeon Dr. David Hanscom, doctors actually can only pinpoint the cause of pain about 15% of the time.
That means that 85% of pain cases are idiopathic -- we have no idea what’s causing them.
Of course, this is because, like I said, doctors are looking at the BODY for answers, instead of considering the NERVOUS SYSTEM.
It turns out that stress stored in your nervous system not only causes pain, but can make you more sensitive to pain signals.
Which means…
The more pain you have, the more pain you feel.
This awful loop just keeps happening -- UNLESS you do something to disrupt it.
That’s where somatic meditation comes in.
Somatic meditation -- unlike traditional forms of mindfulness meditation -- focuses on sensory awareness in your body.
This disrupts pain signals by sending what’s called “non-nociceptive data” to your brain -- information that says “it’s safe to move here.”
When done frequently, somatic meditation effectively calms your nervous system, healing stress and trauma that has resulted from accidents, injuries and emotional shock.
The result is less pain and tension in your body -- but also reduced stress and anxiety overall.
Check out this guided somatic meditation for chronic pain to start your journey toward pain relief and healing at the nervous system level.
Be sure and leave me a comment to let me know how you felt after doing this meditation!

Dear Sukie. I keep coming back to your videos. They are amazing, helpful and calming the nervus system. Can you please make more videos? You are being missed❤
I've been in extreme pain all day from even before I woke up....even in my dreaming. The pain just kept increasing. I tried three other meditation for pain videos only to feel annoyed by the way they told me to accept it, thank it, blah blah blah. Then I found your video....everything you said resonated true with me, so I listened and followed. I'm so glad I did. When I started, the pain was an 8.5...now it's a 2! I'm so GRATEFUL for you and your GOOD WORK. You made a difference in my world. I plan to watch more of your videos and will let my therapist know about you, as we've started discussing the value of polyvagal exercises, trauma stored in the body, and mind-body connection overall.
Maybe you’d find help from Dan Buglio’s videos like I did and started healing. Good luck.
yours are the only meditations I've ever done that don't feel like a struggle. they're fun, low pressure, and I feel so calm afterward.
4 years of watching this video, it gets deeper and wider. I share this to virtually everybody I meet, you are a life saver.
I have tried so many types of meditation for chronic pain over a 25 year period. The struggle has always been how do you focus on your body and bring attention to it when it hurts. Your meditation and using other senses to draw attention away from the body gave me space enough to come back to it, breathe and then I totally noticed a shift in how I experienced pain afterwards. This is so helpful!!! Thank you!
Thanks for recommending the Somatic Meditation to me, Sukie! This was very helpful, and I will try it on my own next time, now that I know the instructions. Something you said really struck me, which is how much am I focusing on "the story". I realized that my story is now that "I am now an injured person, with pain", and that is communicating to my subconscious a very powerful message, which is NOT what I want to take on as my reality! Interestingly, I have been participating in an online Buddhist retreat with a wise teacher, and he was just talking about this the other day, about how we have "the story" always running in the background of our mind, and how this can lead us to believe in the permanence of things. But in reality, everything is IMPERMANENT, always changing continuously. So with that, I want to offer to my mind the impermanence of the pain I am experiencing.
Thank you for this, it helped me alot where I am today...
Reassuring.
Tyou..I will be learning more of Buddah soon.
Excellent Channel thanks very much! I have had chronic jaw and facial pain for 35 years now and your videos are really helping me thank you!
Thank you so much for this! I have been so meditation resistant for so long but somehow I found myself hitting play on this video and your calm, gentle guidance kept me moving through each step. I feel a peace in my body right now that I didn’t think was accessible anymore. I’m so looking forward to learning and practicing more!
I am so happy to have found you today! I’ve had pain for 13 years! I’ve had every test, pain medication , muscle relaxers, acupuncture and on and on. I have always been a loner but my pain has changed my personality. I’ve been stuck for years. I rarely talk about it with anyone. Because I go to the gym every day people don’t understand how I can be in pain every day of my life. I find keeping it myself works best…I am so excited to have found you!
Hi Kristine! Im at the same boat, do u want to chat maybe ? 💜
Do yourself a favor and read Alan Gordon’s book - The Way Out
@@melaniabobrowicz1505 Yes! I’m sorry I’m just seeing this
Thank You Sukie. Repetitive use of this would be awesome. Like Dr Wayne Dyer said, Change your thoughts Change your life. Change the way you look at things and The things you look at will change.🥰
Ive been having CFS and depersonalisation...You have been of great help in dealing with pain. Its been chronic but your work has made it soo much easier to get guided..Appreciate your work...Much love.God bless❤❤
I found it so hard to keep my eyes open. Really relaxing.
I have chronic back pain and leg aches that come almost every afternoon. Today, I had it really bad. I think the looking to the right and left parts helped lessen the pain a little bit. Thank you!
love the vids... u are such a relaxed and natural person, very therapeutic for me
Thank you sooo much, a new calmness is starting to replace anxiety and pain.
This is the craziest shit I’ve ever tried. Please post more 💜😭
In recovery of long covid got last march fairly severe home where my nervous system - musckeletera all pain neck throat digestion breathing etc l has been affected told my nervous system is very low, this video has been helpful aswell as your Vagus nerve one. You are terrific. Huge thank you God bless you💐💐💐
This is exactly why I'm here. I've had left side issues and digestive issues. 7 months in and no matter what i eat it's not processing right. And eating triggers my left leg nerve sensations it drives me mad. I was worried it's perminant damage and what if my body can't fix that sort of damage. So I've turned to meditation or trying to reset my nerve.
Wow I would love to hear more about your experience. I’ve had symptoms appear after covid last december and haven’t been able to tell if it’s long covid related or otherwise. These symptoms sound similar to what I’ve been experiencing as well. Did you see a certain kind of doctor to learn more about this?
@@thehj_2824 no reply 😬
I'd recommend you'd also look into the Dynamic Neural Retraining System as well.
@@thehj_2824 what’s your vaccination status? Vaccinated before or after Covid or none at all? Similar to symptoms I and a few more people I know have :-/
Omg I woke up with horrible stomach pain and I'm feeling so much better. Thank you so much! Amazing work ❤️
Glad to hear that, Rebecca!
@@SukieBaxter keep up the good work!
The best meditation I have ever done. My body was shaking and throwing off stress throughout. Thank you!
Thank you I do have chronic pain. This is helped. There’s a little relief. I do know that I need to continue to do it. Thank you.
thank you so much for this. I have been suffering with toothache for nearly a month & am waiting for my dentist to give me an appointment , paracetomol, iveofun, anbesol garlic & this combined has soothed me to a manageable state. thank younx
I am noticing lightness, boyant in my head and eyes feel more relaxed 😌 thank you Sukie 🙏🏾🥰
She hasnt released a new video in ages. I feel i only get emails about signing up for classes that are completely out of my price range. I wish people where more like dr.berg, dr that WANT to help people HELP themselves.i really loved her videos. Just upsets me that there havent been manymore or classes she will do for free for for less fortunate people.
Sending gratitude from a Daoist monastery near Seattle!

I've had a very, VERY rough day with the pain being increasingly strong thr last few days... didn't sleep well and panicked a lot.
Tried thus video, I fell asleep around two thirds in kn accident, that's how much it helped relax
Thank you so much!
We are doing visual therapy at home with my 10 year old son, and it is definitely powerful stuff. Those eye movements and your explanation of how we are rewiring the brain to desensitize pain made so much sense.
Thank Sukie! I am learning how to live with pain in a more gentle way and your exercises are extremely helpful. I did feel a relief and happy to note that I am teaching my brain and body to relax and find ease. Because there's ease somewhere, I just didn't know how to connect with it!
It is so obvious we all are struggling with some type of pain, or we wouldn't be here...I've looked at your teachings through critical eyes in the form of any b.s...and no, absolutely not..you have me listening and "seeing" what you're saying/teaching. I wish to also help those who require another way to communicate with! Just letting you know that you are SO appreciated and loved! Tyou Sukie
Thank you that was really nice 😊❤
Thank you. Nothing has ever worked for me. I feel amazing. My leg that has nerve pain feels warm. Not buzzing or distracting or uncomfortable x
I’m usually so unfocused that I can’t get along with almost any meditation till the end. But this one, I listen at least twice a day, when waking up & before bed, even nap. I feel very relaxed yet still alert. Thank you much! Could you share the source of the music background used in this video so that I can listen to it more often, please? Your voice & the music both helped!
Sukie, your work is amazing, thank you so much for sharing this work. I’ve tried several of your meditations and they are transformative xx
Thank you for this his meditation. Its extremely helpful to expand awareness with this exercise. 🙏🙏🙏
I don’t know the cause or reason for my migraines. No one does.
Your meditations help me a lot.
Thank you!
Have you tried Curable?
Can be a difference between Expectations and Reality that makes the Neuroception activate the Stress Mode to deal with the present situation (real or imagined). Every physiological behavior is a symptom of a cause, and this cause is usually the interpretation of the Nervous System as potential Threat. Somatic Meditation is also the solution to become Aware, change the Thoughts/Beliefs associated with a certain trigger (situation, person), and shut down the Stress Response and come back to Safety (Safety = Healing).
Thank you so much for this. I just did this meditation this morning and I'm feeling better. Pains are still there but I feel calmer.
Your excellent, mega thank you, nothing was working, until I found your video. It's just so different and not boring at all. Thank you. X
Absolutely amazing Sukie! I wasn’t expecting instant relief from localised pain - the eye exercise was the one.
I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. This has helped me so much and you have shared so much valuable information about pain in this video. I am just starting out with a chronic condition that causes pain and the pain is already severe, so I am having trouble functioning and this meditation has helped me immeasurably both experience pain and connect to my body in a new way. Thank you so much, it was amazing being able to notice the shift of sensation. I am so grateful.
Thank you so much!
Yeah my glutes back abdomen and neck. Thank you for this guided meditation ❤
Thank you for details and support and cooperation and nice councelling and motivation 👏
Thank you 🙏🏼 I appreciate your help an it is helping God Bless you beautiful human

I LOVE HER SO MUCH. I just can't afford the money for her main classes. Unfortunately wich is sad. But I have wTched every video. May e 1 day I'll be able to afford the more informative videos. Thanks for all the help. God Bless!
Thank you Sukie. Helped me a lot 💜😇
this was amazing. i felt something amazing out of the blue. I think it's obvious at what segment.
Thank you so much for your channel and videos! 🙏 These somatic meditations are so helpful. ☺
Very helpful. Thank you. I don't think of myself as having chronic pain, but my left side, especially my shoulder, is stubbornly tense, something I've noticed for many years without being able to do much about it. Right now, after doing this once, it has loosened up nicely, freeing up my breathing. Will certainly be trying this again when I'm less tired, as I was drifting off a bit this time.
Thankyou again Sukie, you are so wise and it works!!
Thanks so much for sharing this. It was very insightful, and helpful. 🙏
Excellent❤ Somatic experiencing is what I need most
Thank you so much, you’re an Angel ❤
Thank you so much Sukie. Added to a long term journey with chronic pain and CFS, now it’s chronic pain from head shingles. The coping toolkit has had to be very large. Just doing this meditation once has been really helpful. I like your scientific approach. The gentle movements and observations combined helped to move me from the panic I have begun to feel. I’ll be doing it often! God bless you. 🙏
Thank you Sukie Baxter for your insightful knowledge. I truly appreciate you.
Sukie, what I love so much about your videos is that you actually teach us how to apply the content you talk about. This, like so many of your videos, was tremendously helpful.
I remember I did it this practice with out knowing when I was in a hospital and I tell my self the things around me then my body became calm and I fall asleep 😴 it’s amazing thanks 🙏
Thank you so much! Just starting my journey into incorporating somatics into healing my pain. This was a wonderful beginning!
This really was so soothing & helped me focus on something else other than my pain. I will for sure remember this and use this technique. Thank you.
Very helpful I felt my pain reduce and will definitely being using this technique again.
Huge help thank you
Thank you Sukie for every advised and motivating knowledge you share from the kindness of your heart. May God continue enlightening your path with health love and prosperity amen. Thank you, thank you and thank you.
i enjoyed that! i am in constant pain in my lower back and hips..by the time i had finshed watching you the pain eased quite a lot and i felt drowsy. I suppose what you are saying is that we tend to make our pain too important by focusing on it even when we dont think we are? i will watch more of your vids and practice this meditation more. Thankyou from UK
Thank you it was great❤
Thank you very relaxing meditation✌🏻
We love you, Susie Baxter❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
thank you!! Thank you!
Divine timing! Loved it 🌺
Wonderful!
Very helpful. Thank you so much.
This helped bring my pain down to zero! Thank you so much Sukie! I LOVE your videos! You’re amazing!
This is groundbreaking for me. I have very low quality of life. Thank you.
Wow. Thank you so much!
Can this be used for chronic fatigue as well?
Just starting this meditation, it's morning, awful headache, I overdid it yesterday, and am way out of spoons. I'll reply to this with my results afterwards.
Just finished...WOW, that helped! My headache has SIGNIFICANTLY lessened, and I feel calm and not really having that panic feeling I was before. Thank you so so much!
Love your meditationals! I find the background music distracting in this video, however, even though it is mellow
Thanks for the feedback Christina!
Me too, distracted by the "music" /sound
Thank you for making this! ❤
Great video, I feel really sleepy after doing this 😊
thanks a lot 🎉🙏
Hi Sukie, I really love this meditation and I don’t have cronic physical pain. Could this be used for emotinal pain say from a hard life situation like divorce, financial crisis, etc?
Hi Annmarie, yes of course. This can be used any time you feel stressed, activated, disconnected, frazzled or upset. Emotional pain and physical pain are not so very dissimilar, actually.
It really works.... Thx for sharing
Thank you
Something happened...new pathways? Very curious where this can go
oh ok!!! Is this what I was feeling?!
I love this video.
Don’t know if you read you UA-cam posts. Please post again!
Thank you, Sukie!
This was very interesting. That last exercise of head facing one direction while eyes look in other other was most intriguing. I am wondering if what I felt inside of myself is "normal" at all. I felt a shift/struggle between I think my mind and my spirit. In my head it felt like the upper half was pulling to the right and just beneath that a very strong pull to the left. It wasn't felt physically and this is the best way I can describe it. I also felt slightly dizzy in a sense. Any thoughts on this?
Amazing
Very nice! Informative
I kept having tears well up during this practice. I tried not to create a story about that. Is this normal? I also sighed etc a lot which felt good but I’m wondering about the release via ‘tears’ or emotion? Can you shed light on this or point me to a resource? Thanks so much
wonderful
That helped my burning stomach feel better
I just did this video and as I was turning my head to the left and then the right. What my eyes where focusing on turned into 2 . What is that about?
Does this apply for non pain/tension symptoms like Irritable bowel syndrome? I mean I don’t have symptoms unless I eat certain foods… thank you🙏💕
Do u just focus on one spot at a time?
Hi Sukie, I have an upcoming dental appointment and local anesthetic makes me sick. I need multiple restorations and root canals. The dentist has agreed to do it without any numbing whatsoever, although he is trying to convince me not to. No numbing is what I feel is best for me and I want to use meditation as my sole means of pain tolerance. Any advice on what I should concentrate on and what imagery would work best, especially if a nerve is hit and a searing jolt of pain is felt?
I would advise very strongly against doing this without extensive coaching by a hypnotherapist rather than pure meditation. For the large majority of people you will most likely not enough progress in a few weeks on your own. I am a layman, and this is possible to do, but ill advised to do so on your own. If only for the fact that really deep trance is much much easier to achieve through hypnosis by others rather than by self training. Incidentally meditation and hypnosis do have similarities, though there are differences.
I was suffering awful toothache with painkillers not touching the sides & no sleep when I found this. Even lying in the dark I was able to do it & could feel myself not focusing on the pain as much & managed 90 minutes sleep. Such a relief.
I’m trying but what about crps???
Find a balloon, or flowers to focus on, and find a soothing toy or sensation, like warm/cool, or something squishy. It can help you create the sense of some ok spot to rest on, where you may not be able to actually find one on your body
Hi Sukie! I had scarring on my intercostals and have done a lot of work towards it over the years. I’m left with tight fascia in one area. Any other modalities you like for the intercostals? Would you recommend cupping or graston for this area? Finally, should also be doing breathing exercises that strengthen this area of the muscle? Thank you so much for your time
I had great results with Graston work for an injured shoulder. I tried so many other things - accupuncture, ultrasound therapy, chirpractor, massage etc - nothing worked. My chiropractor suggested a colleague who did Graston and that was the magic that was required! Best of luck.
Extremely helpful - thank you! :-)
