    How you gonna talk about Beast master and leave out Lobber skill? That's super useful! You can toss Kings mead and Breach enemies from afar!

      Lobber is soooo good agree 100%, also with bosses if they’re hitting so hard like a truck with magic or their weapon, just Lob some debuffs! Also Bombs are useful for a while, kinda like a no-MP 5 tile spell 😂

    Dont forget that Vartan can equip a dagger to go with their 1h bow. While the damage is comparable to a hammer or axe the L1 finisher seems to put them over the other options - especially with Canopus' air alignment.
    Beastmaster also gets the lobber skill which can come in clutch for throwing debuff items at bosses. It may be sort of niche but throwing a breach or weaken from range can be just the edge you need in some of the tougher fights (looking at you Xeabos).
    I'd like to shout out Terror Knights as something for people to keep in mind as fear is an incredibly strong debuff and coupling the low cost fear strike with a weapon debuff (breach from Zwei or Claymore is quite good) can melt the opposition. They also get drain heart for a retreat and heal option as well as instill dark for a decent damage buff on top of having access to rampart aura.

      I had Canopus with an axe and a 1-hand bow for most of my playthrough. I switched him over to an Archer and gave him a longbow recently. The damage is outstanding.

      You speak of air alignment as if that is something good. A unit with ice alignment will be tougher and deadlier than any unit with air alignment. There is no such thing as the better or best elemental alignment, each one is weaker or stronger than another.

    Rune Fencer would learn Conserve MP, auto proc that waives the next spell mp cost.
    I like to have Rune Fencer use Boon of Swiftness for free when conserve MP works.

    I've been using BM since I got the class mark and haven't changed until today (Ch 4 now). Been enjoying using them with whips and blowguns. My party will always have a type of dragon or beast, depends on the party that I am going to fight..so glad that BM is on the list. I really think that this class is underrated..

    *ALL* class options for Winged can fly and thus have this benefit.
    Due to suffering high RT penalties per square of movement, for Winged types Vartan is perhaps the worst of all of the classes available despite being unique to Winged types. Warrior or RuneFencer or Archer is objectively better in nearly every situation unless you're literally just trying to apply special effects thru ElColasWinds and HopaganWinds. Canopus and other Winged types also make the best Clerics since height is no obstacle.

    • @fwosti3548
      @fwosti3548 3 місяці тому

      In case it was not clear: use literally any other class for your winged-type units other than Vartan. Change Canopus' class as soon as you get him.

  • @TheRobversion1
    @TheRobversion1 Рік тому +2

    These are the top 5 generic human units imo:
    1. Rune fencers- action economy is king thus a BOS caster is very useful. nobody makes a better BOS caster among the generics (well its just the RF and the cleric) than the RF. couple this with the RF's versatility, instills (great to deprioritize them from being hit by bosses) and meditate (RFs are the best finisher spammers) makes them a unit that is useful in any party for any scenario.
    2. terror knights- this is the "can opener" in the main game chapters of TOR. nothing helps speed up killing enemies as much as breached + frightened fearful impact 2H sword strike while also shoring up defenses due to frightened. they are versatile like RFs via their magic/range from drain heart which allows them to self-heal. this is the main frontliner unit.
    3. wizards->warlocks->necromancers- i'll group these together since they all serve the same purpose: control. action economy is king in TOR. nothing swings action economy to your side as much sleep, charm or petrify. this removes enemies from the fight for multiple turns in one action which allows you to deal with others or the boss via focus fire.
    4. beast tamers->fusiliers- i'll group these together as well as we're also here just for one thing: lobber. item debuffs and healing are the primary tactics when dealing with difficult bosses. for beast tamers, they even retain their usefulness even if you didn't bring a single beast or dragon. lobber is that good. the elemental shots they can lob also inflict decent dmg in an area which gets around armor and is static (good for recruiting).
    5. archers- this serve the same function as #3 (control) but with a more specific niche. the bosses in TOR are typically immune to the conditions your casters inflict but not the ones that comes from non-spells (like silence or stunned). bosses are also resistant to spells that can inflict stun like paralytic wave. archers (and to a lesser extent ninjas) can ensure these conditions can be inflicted on bosses via the "assurance" skills in eagle eye and tremendous shot. these assurance skills also work on the conditions inflicted by their finishers (like the sleep on slumber shot) though bosses are immune to those conditions.

    Beast tamers als have the lobber skill that lets you throw most consumables. Eventually then shop sells elemental grenades, useing them normally catches the user in the blast range but lobber naturally let's you esire the blast only hits foes. Once you getnthensecond tier crafting books you can give your beast tamers diffrent blowguns that while they deal low damage can inflict debuffs on the enemy.
    Vartans are great for harassing and finishing off foes.
    Rune Fencers/Valkyries form a core of your army, thier flexibility with melee, ranged and magic options makes them always useful.
    Honestly I can't think of a single useless unit you shouldn't have in your army ready to join the battle when their talents are called for.
    Though one thing to always do is upgrade your equipment, as upgraded equipment doesn't just have boosted stats many have extra skills. Rune Fencers have enter water as an inherent ability, but heavy armor +1 grants a unit that same skill, upgraded leg gear grants swift foot that increases movement and jump height. Some upgraded weapons can inflict debuffs as well.

    • @89Games
      @89Games  Рік тому

      You have a lot of great points here! And yes, every class certainly has its place based on the situation and everyone's own playstyle. That's what I love about games like Tactics Ogre, so many options.

    • @jamescole7614
      @jamescole7614 Рік тому

      @@89Games one thing I like about Reborn many don't is it is balnced between customisation and restriction. Not so restricted that some classes can only do one thing and might be pointless for certain play styles, but not so flexable that classes are interchangeable that the best stat grow class is the only class you need. They sought to make every class useful with out any class being too strong. Your caster classes are for spell slnging options, melee experts are best at melee, and the jack of all trades types are indeed masters of none. Makes you feel more like your fielding a team that needs to have builds that support each other, rather than one unit that does everything and everyone else just buffs or heala them.

    Unfortunately swordmasters fall off a cliff on the mid-late game, their debuffs have a minuscule chance to work, their buffs are only a 10% increase, and you need to be at melee range for them, and even tho his melee focuses abilities like guaranteed dodge and free extra counter are great on paper, in reality by the time you get into combat, you will be just pelted with finishers, and since he's not tanky at all the spellcasters will also focus him.
    Dragoons are pretty stupid for 2k damage hits if you make them chug fruits before finding a target, and they are also very decent tanks once the dragons/beasts are all dead

    • @89Games
      @89Games  Рік тому

      True, swordmasters are a bit squishy for a melee character making them harder to use against hard hitting enemies. I like the versatility in dragoons, like you said, they still make decent tanks after taking out all the dragons and beasts. Good points, thanks!

    Dragoon kinda sucks late-game against Dragons; they have Dragon Scale every damn turn so I've been forced to use Poison and Stun to deal with them. Maybe I need to mess with my setup on him a bit. Probably add Rampart Aura.
    My Beast Tamer has been a staple on my team along with my Griffin. Whips are underrated imo. The level 40 tech does about 700 damage. Not to mention the ability to throw items being incredibly good.

      @@rabbyd542 Sorry, I don't understand why you think they are bad against what they are designed for. The ability of oneshoting high hp monsters is awesome. They have Dragon Wound which its sole purpose is to counter Dragon Scale by removing it lol. Even if you didn't equip it because you forgot or w.e, you can just wait for the skill to go off.
      I particularly like spear dragoons because if you combine dragon/beastbane + beast/dragonslayer + gigatempest you can aoe oneshot 4 dragons/beasts at the same time, given that they stacked up of course. Dragoons single handlely made my runs trough the Six Ancient Temples of Philaha a breeze, i was one or two shoting the bosses there lol.

      @@OvertPumkin Exactly, if you need both versions just bring another dragoon, pretty easy fix, most times you won't even need it, very few maps have 50-50 of both types and you can always reset the map if it isn't a scripted one to roll for a fight that just has one type of the two.

  • @TheJinnobi
    @TheJinnobi Рік тому +3

    As soon as I had access to Swordmasters, I made 5 and never looked back.
    I'm now completing CODA with my team of Swordmasters and Liches. I breezed through the game without a hitch, because my Swordmaster team made everything so easy with a little support.
    Contrary to popular belief, Swordmasters are not squishy at all. They can wear the heaviest helms and chestplate in the game, and the second-highest tier of gloves and pants. A mix of plate and mail armor doesn't sound "squishy" to you, does it? In any case, the reality is that between their armor, their self-Fortify, and their ability to dodge 2 (eventually 3) melee attacks in a row, they have impressive survivability on the front line. That isn't even factoring in Preempt + Falling Blade canceling out the first melee attacker that targets them if you are positioned properly (as forced crits will knock back melee attackers, meaning all weapons except whips and spears will be canceled).
    People say War Dances have a low chance to work, but what they don't understand is that if they had an equal chance to work as single target spells like Torpor, they'd be broken. But the solution is simple: Black Lizard Powder is an item that adds a FLAT 30% increase for debuff War Dances to work. I routinely have 70-80% chance to Breach/Weaken/Slow/Charm multiple opponents in a single turn - making Swordmasters very mana efficient, and they do a lot of work per turn.
    Finally, the Lich class -- one of the strongest classes in the game, bar none -- has the "Reflection" auto skill, which makes everyone within 2 squares of the Lich reflect a spell back at the caster. Since Swordmasters are innately anti-melee, they are weakest to AoE magic. Reflection counters their weakness.
    But it gets better: normally, Reflection is "balanced" by stopping your own spells, as well as your opponents spells. However, War Dances go straight through Reflection: making War Dances one of the only non-item ways to heal/buff yourself and your team while Reflection is up! The synergy is unbelievably powerful.
    People who dislike Swordmasters are often the same type of people who are drawn to very simple classes like Rune Fencer and Terror Knight. And yes, in the hands of someone who doesn't like to synergize and strategize before acting, those classes will work better for them. Swordmasters reward planning, positioning, swapping between the front line and support (depending on auto skills proccing and MP availability): but you'll be hard-pressed to find a better melee class than Swordmaster when in capable hands.
    One last thing: Liches have "Salvation" which sucks up MP from your party when the Lich is under 50% MP, and distributes MP to the entire party when over 50% MP. This works wonderfully for a Swordmaster party, because the Lich can suck up 10/20 MP on the first/second turn, use Life Force to get a huge amount of MP, and next turn give his mana away to all your Swordmasters! That means they will all have plenty of MP when they actually need it.
    Swordmaster is a relatively complex class when compared to its peers, but excellent. Kind of like Tactics Ogre in general.
