  • In this video I have a look at a Hyundai Elantra that came in with a "idle problem." The engine light was on with several codes pertaining to the Idle Air Control Valve and also had a code for a large EVAP leak. Let's have a look see. -Enjoy!

    Hey Eric, glad I took your advice on visual inspections are important. I just fixed a low voltage code on a freightliner dump truck. Pulled codes and upon mu inspection I found the connector partially undone. Well I started to laugh and I pulled the accelerator pedal off and lone behold one pin was slightly bent. So I used a small pick to straighten the pin out. Reattach the connector and Bam we now have inactive codes for low voltage. Meaning inactive is when you cycle the key to off and then on
    The ecm does a self test and it passed. So trucks back in service check engine light is off and truck runs great. So I will watch this video when I go on break at work. Thank you again for your video's and teaching. Mrs.Os kitchen looks awesome. And remember if I can do it, you can do it. Ttyl

    • @devinslurry365
      @devinslurry365 4 роки тому

      @@spaceinvadertoo Its a fine line. I shut down, or sold more businesses than I care to mention for this very reason and I am still uncertain if I ever once made the right decision. I trust my gut on these things 100% (especially now) and I just have to live with my decisions. YMMV. Sometimes that sucks for various reasons. There are two ways of being in business and it took me a while to sort it out. But #1, You create a business as a job for yourself and since we are on a mechanic's channel, that fits with the YT community. #2. You create a business and fuck off from it and have nothing to do with it except for checking in on it some time down the road. That is a whole other level of business. Sometimes this sucks because the people running said business will come to hate you for not being very present in said business. Be careful who you leave in charge of said business because if you are sloppy in this regard you could have put your wife in charge and they could become a problem later on. (Sage Advice.) Crossing that particular Rubicon means you understand point #1 and succeeded enough in point #1. that you no longer have to care about point #1. Because if you get past point #1. you have enough money to no longer care about your business that you created. If you lose a business that you have very little involvement in, you wont care if your finances are in order. Assuming you did not put your wife or best friend in charge of said business. You wont get this outlook on YT if only rarely.

    • @devinslurry365
      @devinslurry365 4 роки тому

      The very feed we are on is a perfect example of a great mechanic creating a perfected business for himself as a Job. He is a great mechanic. Everyone agrees and even his wife is great in the situation at hand and runs the back/front end of the business and I complement her for cooking and managing the 3 kids and all those things. She is probably doing more work than he is actually if my experience could be used to measure things. Its a perfected bubble in that sense. But all he has at the end of the day is a Job. I am ok with that. If a person is OK in said perfected Job Bubble, that is OK and I rather like that. I have been there and its comfy assuming everything is happy. Pro Tip: Never put a friend in charge of your business with your wife. or vice versa.

    • @devinslurry365
      @devinslurry365 4 роки тому

      Better yet, dont put your wife in charge of any businesses you create ever. Just let her answer phones and feed the kids in your presence. Nothing more. Thank me later.

    • @devinslurry365

      My wife never cheated for the record. We are all good. But the things you learn in business are so important if you are an entrepreneur, or otherwise working along side of your significant other. Let her impress you, but never give her the keys to the Kingdom. I cant stress that point enough.

      Pull it themselves...few. Buy a used part from a commercial salvage, many.
      Around here only a couple of the very small shops would pull a part themselves (or they have a kid that pulls common parts and they shelve them). They cater to the aging GM W-bodies and A-bodies, Panthers, etc that are the mainstay of the poor neighborhoods adjacent Chicago. These cars are held together by hopes and dreams and the tenacity of mechanics that live hand to mouth in a one or two stall garage with all other business long since boarded up around them.

    Haha... you got out and did exactly what I would've done. Give it a few smacks, to start.
    Loved the car chase story... would've been neat to see... lol popcorn in hand. Or ice cream even better!

    • @AB12896

      MXSLICK most likely state police. In the upstate area of New York they have town police but usually state police will do the chase.

    I typically do a drive cycle after a repair, it usually doesn't take all the OEM steps, I think that's just a guarantee to run everything type thing, at least at Honda. Cool channel man, keep it up!

    Cool fix. We used to do the same thing with emissions... It got to the point that local law enforcement would see you driving a car with no sticker they would wave you off they knew you were working on it. Spent a lot of time on the road....

    My 2009 Accent had a lumpy idle on start up out of nowhere. Pulled off the IAC and the "blade" was sticking on the buildup in the thing and was getting randomly stuck. A quick cleaning and it's been fine since. These engines get dirty real fast and need a regular cleaning of the IAC and the throttle body. But you can't beat the simplicity of the 1.6 and 2.0l in those years.

    I just had a citroen C4 with 31 codes in it, all I had to change was the front left ABS sensor to fix it, sometimes diagnostic tool make you search for problems where there aren't any

    About the OBD 2 monitors I work on European cars and I know that on VW you can run the monitors with the car stationary I don't know how many manufacture you can do that but it nice when you just worked on a EVAP system and want to confirm a fix but I notice also that on some model you can go and do one from a list of monitors but on some other you have to run the test form start to finish but if a particular monitor that interest me has run and there is remaining to be done I will cancel the test if I dont't have time to do all of them.

      R. L., Hyundai and Kia both have plants in the US. The Elantras sold in the US are usually made in the US. Anyway, it's funny you consider it good to have a plant where they sell the cars, because a lot of people think working for a foreign auto maker is a worthless job because it sends all the money back to the home country. It's not a 'real' job. I disagree.

    Funny, I know some apartment-big city dwellers that are convinced the only function of the "check engine light" is to alert you of a possible bad gas cap, they even call it "the gas cap light" and choose to just keep driving and ignore it.

    Here in Southern California, it can be tricky to perform the drive cycle test. I usually go out on the local roads and freeways about 6:00 AM on Saturday or Sunday morning. Then I can do the slow driving and long 55 MPH drives without being in anyone's way. I follow the procedures I find on the Internet for various makes and find that all monitors pass within about 30 minutes.
