- In this episode, we've reached our first port of call aboard the Crown Princess... welcome to St. Thomas! Join us as we head from Havensight to Crown Bay to catch a ferry over to Water Island to explore Honeymoon Beach... Dee is determined to capture all the award-winning fish footage that she can... including some sea turtle footage... huzzah!!
The final phase of MegaVacay2020 is a ten-night cruise aboard the Crown Princess out of Fort Lauderdale! We sailed February 5 - March 6, 2020 with stops in St. Thomas, Dominica, Grenada, Bonaire, and Aruba. So far, we've completed a week at DisneyWorld as well as 20 days of cruising aboard the Mariner Of The Seas, Grand Celebration, Carnival Sunrise, and MSC Armonia... and we're ready for one more dose of fun to close out our mega vacay agenda!

I went last week on my Wonder of the Seas cruise and it was fun! We ported at Crown Bay, so it was a quick walk to the Crown Bay marina to catch the water taxi. This video helped me decide to do it!

We ported in St Thomas last November and did a snorkel excursions. After we were done we went over to a Cove for some lunch and advertised "swimming". So as I watch this vlog I discover we were at Honeymoon beach. They did not advertise this as a turtle location. We missed them 😢. Next time I will know to always have the mask at the ready. Thanks for all the info you provide.
Ah, funny! So you probably were over at that Heidi's bar, if that's the right name. I'm not sure if the turtles are there most every day, but they seem to hang out a lot!!
Conch fritters , bush wackers!!! It sounds like the Bahamas . Because one of our number one dishes is conch fritters and one of our Junkanoo groups in Freeport is called the buck wackers!!!😂

Just so your aware, the water island ferry is about the only thing in the Caribbean that doesn't run on island time. 8 o'clock departure means 8 o'clock. The only possible exception would be on real busy ship days like the day you were there. If the line is at capacity before the scheduled time and more people are coming they will run early and then come back for an extra run. If your there on a no ship day do not be even 30 seconds late or you will miss it. Glad you enjoyed our island
Gotcha! Having three ships in must have altered the schedule a bit with some extra runs. We showed up eight minutes late for the 10:00am departure thinking we had missed it, and he was just pulling back into the Crown Bay side as we arrived. We ended up pulling out at 10:20am to head to Water Island. I imagine on non-ship days, it's a lot less hectic. We've been looking to possibly stay a week on St. Thomas to give more time to explore the island, maybe check out St. John, and see more than we can on a typical cruise stop!! :D

@@parodeejay is Crown Bay over on the Megan's Bay side of the island. St. Thomas is beautiful no matter where you. I'd love to go to St. John, I hear it's amazing.

We were in St Thomas on Vision of the Seas & went to Water Island about 3 days after you guys were there. Great inexpensive, easy day especially if you’re on a Royal Caribbean or Celebrity ship already docked at Crown Bay. Plus you get there earlier than the people docked at Havensight and get first dibs on the good chairs!
It's so convenient from Crown Bay! We're slated to be back in St. Thomas via Norwegian in December, and we'll probably be at Crown Bay. Might just have to hop over to Water Island again since we're right there!! :P

You got it right. That boat was placed there by one of the hurricanes. I remember the pictures of water island after it went through. Which one I don't remember.
Gotcha! I forget the big one that came through and took out the St. Thomas butterfly garden there at the port too. That was a cool place!!

They must be Turtle Taxies. I loved how the little fish were riding on the backs. I love turtles too, but since I can not swim I have never seen them in the ocean.
Funny, those fish... I think they're called remoras. You see them clinging to turtles and sharks and whatnot, I guess eating algae and things off them? Interesting!!

I agree, Trunk Bay is hands down one of my favourite beaches I have been to, almost as good as Klein Bonaire!
We were on the Sky princess last December and they had put a couple of towels in our stateroom (query wonder if it has something to do with we had booked a Stingray excurison through the cruiseline?) ** ps new ish to cruising.
Normally the cruise line staff will put two towels in your room, regardless of an excursion, just so you can use them around the pool and whatnot. It's handy!! :D

When are you two going to Hawaii? Dee will be in heaven with the snorkeling there. Plus, there are beaches where the honu (sea turtles) come up on the beach for sunbathing. It is truly magical.
January 2022, we're slated to sail from San Diego to Hawaii for 15 days... woohoo!! :D
St. Thomas looks so different now. We were there the April after the hurricanes and all the trees were still stripped bare and a lot of damage. Looking good Charlotte Amalie. We'll have to try Water Islsnd next time! Did you get any stings from the micro jellys? We couldn't figure out why our skin was feeling prickly at Magens Bay, but apparently they were micro jellys
They've bounced back a good bit since the last big storm for sure. We visited the butterfly garden one time right at the port, which is no longer there sadly. No issues with jellyfish though... yow!!
@@parodeejay the jellys didn't hurt, it was just weird feeling. Even our son said it didn't hurt.
Dee & Jay, is you like the buffet selection on the Crown Princess, you would love the buffet selection on Princess’s Royal Class ships (Royal, Regal, Majestic, Sky). Thanks for the vlogs!
We definitely want to try Princess again, especially if we can hit another Medallion class ship because we didn't hit as many features of that as we would have liked. Too busy running around doing all the new stuff & things!! :P
I know this is an old video...but just in case... did you book your ferry ahead of time or pay when you got there? I think we'll do this on our upcoming cruise! It looks beautiful!

So strange Princess docked at Crown Bay when I sailed on them. Looks like Royal Caribbean bought that pier from Carnival. That's the only pier that can handle the Oasis class.
Interesting! I just assumed it was mostly a Carnival Corp split versus other lines. Carnival hits Havensight, and everyone else gets Crown Bay, but maybe not. Crown Bay would be much more convenient to get to Water Island, which is what we're hoping for then we get back to St. Thomas in December via Norwegian, fingers crossed!!
I think Carnival Corp used to send Princess, Holland and Costa to Crown Bay while regular Carnival went to Haven. Norwegian docks at Haven. Some Royal/Celebrity still dock at Haven as well.
hasent dee learned to scuba dive yet because if Dee went snorkeling again she would be able to scuba dive and stay underwater for longer so Dee could explore the reef
She would eventually love to get scuba certified but we haven't looked into it too much yet!!

Dee, The most amazing experience we had with turtles was in Barbados with Cliffsharker. We had like 40 minutes with the turtles before the cruiseline people got there. It was so amazing!
Oh wow, that's awesome! We had "Barbados Roy" offer us a turtle tour in our Breeze series, ha ha... but we hadn't gone to check out eh turtles there. Sounds super cool!! :D

This was the last of six cruises that we took in February 2020, so until the world reopens, that's the end of the cruise vlogs, I suppose!! We had four canceled for September, and we still have cruises booked for October, November, December, January, and February... so we shall see...
