Did mine on r56 Cooper s 2009 quoted 950 by garage , engine is a psa bmw collaboration so if you buy bmw part it’s 700 pounds , psa part 320 pounds they are the same part it’s a rip off I did job for 350 pounds that’s including some tools , torque wrench etc it took me 60 minutes and I’m not a mechanic.
2009 Mini Coopers (S) R56. MINI has extended the warranty of the High Pressure Injection Pump (HDP) from 4 years or 50,000 miles to 10 years or 120,000 miles, whichever comes first, as determined by the original in-service date. This coverage expired on 11/22/2018. This is what I got from MINI Motoring Relations Representative.
Thanks for the video! I just leave it out here, I have the same problem.. Mine is going to be replaced tomorrow. I had starting failures eventually in cold mornings. Even driven around 1500 rpm mine begins to stutter and while using the clutch to drive from a stopsign (for example) it needs a little gas to drive off smoothly. Also my cooper s clubman R55 (N14) is not always putting out full power (stage 1 - 205hp). It does pull but it feels like it's holding back somehow and an unhealthy kind of acceleration.. One day the car stopped on the mids of a 4 way junction after idling a bit. And finally recieved an error code P3091.. well then I knew. For my fellow mini peeps out there buy a cheap obd2 module. It saves alot of headaches when you need to find some answers.
Good advice yes! Always handy to have OBD2 reader handy. Thank you for sharing your experience. Good luck with your Mini tomorrow and hope the Mini will be back on road soon again!
Ahh I'm sorry I didn't put my results in the comment yet. Well replacing the high fuel pressure pump and fuel filter housing did alot.. But didn't solve it completely. It did make the car run a little better.. But it still was not perfect.. Also I found out I put in the wrong fuel. I did put the euro 98 in the tank but it was from a cheap gas station. They mix fuel with water I found out. And that makes the car run really bad in the end. My garage new this and told me to put in BP ultimate 98 or shell v-power. Well that made a difference as well because then I found out that it finally triggered the right error code... One of my injectors is faulty. Not by much.. Hence the reason I couldn't see what was going on. But enough to drive me crazy 😅.. Now I'm saving up to replace all the injectors. Better to do all 4 because.. Mini cooper s from 2008 is famouse for having bad fuel injectors by around 90 thousand kilometers. And mine is at 93k+ so yeah that would make sense. Well this is my update for now 😊
Just in the process of replacing the HPFP on a 2008 S. It was replaced by the previous owner but he ordered a refurbished part from China. I bought a refurbished MINI part (cost me $300 Canadian). OEM Mini part, brand new, will be close to $1000-$1500. Hope to get the part in the next week..in the meantime I removed the intake and hoses. I'll update when I receive the part. My car had the same symptoms and was firing MIL codes: - P3091- FUEL PUMP PRESSURE IS LOW - P2880- HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP All indications it's the HPFP. One thing MINI recommends is to replace the FUEL FEED LINE that connects the HPFP to the Fuel Rail if it is removed. This part will cost you in the range of $60-$100.
So this sounds like mine. Got those exact codes. Replaced it with an eBay refurb one, ran mint for about 2500kms, now being problematic again however I don't have P2880 (HPFP) this time. I have P3091, P2177 (System Too Lean Off Idle - Bank 1), and P2188 (System Too Rich aat Idle - Bank 1). What do we think?
@@han-a-kkincaid7170 I ended up selling the car as is. New owner tried to buy another refurb but didnt last (again), so he ended up buying a genuine replacement. Not sure how it went after that
I bought a refurb from china and it ran fine for a year an a few months. Now I have started seing symptoms again but it threw a P15FD code that suggest low pressure fuel pump which is the one in tank.
If in effect are the symptoms of failure in the high pressure fuel pump. I had the same problem, the solution is to replace it with a new one, because there is no way to repair it. Approximate cost $ 900-1000 + labor.
These pumps are available new and in OEM quality at carparts shops and engine rebuild companies for less than 300 Euro's. So, no need to buy a refurbished one. I replaced mine myself in less than 1 hour about 1.5 years ago. (OEM means the part was produced by the same company that made the part for BMW/ PSA. Only the box and the prices are different...)

I went to my main dealer, also called customer service UK and they just said no it's not covered. When I showed them it's covered in the USA they just said well this is UK not USA.

Yes. And also according to fault code there was misfire cylinder 1 and 2, but even after the fuel pump was replaced the error still occured. No misfires, however the fault code still remained.
Pr0n3zz yes at the time I sometimes would put my foot down, and a bit of a delay but randomly . I have fixed this by replacing the HPFP and so far no issues.
Thanks for the super fast response! I am experiencing similar symptoms. First we'll check air filters, spark plugs etc. If all that doesnt work I'll try the HPFP :) thanks again!
Pr0n3zz Also check the actual connector Of air filter MASS sensor that clicks in. Previously I had lack of power and noticed one of the wires inside the connector came loose. So could be something small like that too.
Eddie de Villiers , will keep that in mind too! I checked the connector if it was plugged in, but not in the actual connector. Thanks again for all the help :)
Hi Eddie, Just to come back to the topic. It was indeed the HPFP. Unfortunately I did not have the time, tools or knowledge to fix it myself. It will cost us around ~€1500 at the BMW dealership (however they will replace more parts), might comment in a couple of days when I receive the full details. Feels bad after owning it for just 3 months :(
I, mine has got the same problem, it has now 83.711km, i´m going to change the hpfp. Can you tell me what problems should i expect. When i read that in the end your car needed a new engine.......

Miguel Miguel If you have NO fault codes, then you should be ok. HPFP can be fixed under warranty in USA. But not UK. I tried here in the UK but Mini did not want anything to do with it after me seeing them in person and emailing and calling.
