mini cooper s (crank, no start) high pressure fuel pump fault

- hi in this video a mini cooper s has a crank, no start condition. the car has already had its high pressure fuel pump replaced. I carried out some tests to prove that the replacement high pressure fuel pump also needs replacing.
also off camera I removed the spark plugs and cranked the engine to look for a leaking fuel injector, all injectors were fine.
a new high pressure fuel pump was fitted and the car ran fine again.
thanks for watching. - Авто та транспорт
Absolutely excellent diagnosis skills!
Bad parts can send you on a goose chase! Solid reasoning Matt 👍
The new pump was over £300 so I wanted to be sure that it needed it. The aftermarket pump that was already fitted to the car just didn't work. Thanks mate
Oh for sure they can, I helped a friend do his entire brake system on his 84 Land Rover, so it had new calipers, discs, pads, shoes, drums, brake lines, Servo, Master Cylinder and slave cylinders, so essentially, the whole system was brand new, and he was still getting problems with the pedal not feeling right after we had bled it up, we checked every brake line and it's fittings like about a 100 times, it turned out that it was the new master cylinder wasn't sealing properly inside, it was a bit of a nightmare, and had us scratching our heads for a while until we sussed it.
wow greaf job. O came to see the wheel alignment and just happened to notice mini cooper.
I have a mini cooper. Changingnmy throttle body and outer trackong rods tommorrow.
Thanks for watching
Nice one Matt good fix
Rob mobile man
Thanks Robert
Good job matt.. Good deduction..
Thanks Jeremy
Good info Matt cheers sandy
Thanks sandy, the new high pressure fuel pump was over £300 so I wanted to be confident that it needed it. Cheers Matt
Good job 👍🍻
Thanks for watching Adi
Super common on these, I've replaced 2 myself... bmw did an extended warranty on some of them up to 120k mile, I think it ended after the 2010 production run so I got one replaced for free at the dealer on an 09 cooper s that I was using for rallys...lol......😁😁
That's good to know, I haven't had a lot to do with the high pressure pump, most of the mini's I see don't have it. It seems the aftermarket pump that was already fitted was junk. Thanks mate
I have an issue with my car hesitating and rough idle, i've noticed if i rev up the car then let off the fuel rail pressure drops to 600PSI when its usually around 700PSI when idling, do you think this is the pump beginning to fail?
Hi Matt! Im having an issue with my mini cooper s.
The hpfp is not receiving any power on that connection when i crank the car, fuel comes to the hpfp at 70psi (5bar) but wont go out of the hpfp.
Where is the fuse or relay for that sensor/harness ?
Nice job mate ... the new faulty high pressure pump fitted was it aftermarket? 👍
Yes an eBay job I believe
Yes it was, it also didn't feel like the drive was connected to anything when I rotated it with my hand with the pump off the car, the new pump felt like parts were connected internally when I did the same thing with that.
At over £300 for a new pump we wanted to make sure it was needed. Thanks mate
Very nice Matt, question how can you perform such a test without pico ? Thanks
Thanks, a single channel graphing meter would work one channel at a time. Or maybe a multimeter that has duty cycle. It could be enough to know something is being controlled without the detail. Thanks for watching
Hi Matt, any idea how to test if high pressure sensor is faulty ? My symptom is , car starts fine when cold , 45bar on rail. When I rev pressure will increase, when release trottle the pressure will drop to 5 bar . If rev again the pressure will build up again. I have tested low pressure line , that is 5 bar. Both sensor and pump are too expensive to just try, thanks
Seems like the high pressure is only getting low pump pressure.
If you disconnect the low pressure fuel pump and you see if the pressure in the high pressure rail drops, then the sensor could be believable.
Without a gauge it's Hard to prove the sensor is reporting the correct pressure.
@@mechanicmatt871 thanks Matt, I will try that. .
Why is my rail pressure set point value is 9.0 mpa
And my rail pressure is 1.35mpa.
Car won’t start. I have 2012 mini cooper s coupe
Very y
What software are you running?
I used a launch scan tool to see the desired and actual high pressure cheers Matt
@@mechanicmatt871 do you happen to have a link? I need to view fuel pressure via obd
www.amazon.co.uk/LAUNCH-Bi-Directional-Diagnostic-Programming-Functions/dp/B01G5BA9LW/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?crid=1URSOM9AOKGKV&dchild=1&keywords=launch+diagnostic+tool&qid=1631256934&sprefix=launch&sr=8-6
This is the scan tool that I use, although other scan tools will also give you the information you need. As long as it's not an obd or eobd only code reader, it has to have manufacturers specific options too.
Hi buddy's I'm in deep trouble. One mini cooper starting trouble but cranking ok. Fault code is High pressure fuel plausibility pressure too low. What is the complaints ?. Any realy or high pressure pumb. High pressure pumb is very expensive. We don't have spare pumb. Please give me some suggestion
I think the same tests that I did in this video would show you if you are needing a high pressure fuel pump.
I'm not sure what test equipment you may have. Maybe you could try a noid light on the high pressure fuel pump wire to see if it's being controlled. Thanks for watching.
@@mechanicmatt871 But we not have fuel pressure testing tool. Anyway thanks for your good support and replays for my message
What is this scanner?
That was the Launch x431 v
