@zach gavelton hes stating a simple fact. and no, im not an aussie, im a kiwi. aussies are our biggest sporting rivals. and the fact is, no one has stats like gilly. when you take into account that his most common batting position was number 7, the fact that he made the number of centuries and runs he did was phenomenal, and will never be seen again from that position. 17 centuries overall, 12 from batting at number seven. do you know what the next best player of that position got? 6. Ian botham, who is a legend in england, could only get half of what gilchist did. Dhoni's made 2 from number seven. Gilchrist played less innings and has still made hundreds more runs in his career. its not even a close comparison.

In all of my cricket watching, without question, the cleanest striker I've ever, EVER seen. He doesn't 'hit' the ball. Too violent a description. He times the ball, he caresses it. It's pure sweet spot striking. Hall of Famer.

Whenever Gilly batted I would always stop what I was doing and watch if I could. I remember downing tools this innings and didn't have to stop work too long to see the most awesome century I can remember seeing hit. I didn't notice the vision of Freddie with his mouth open watching that one go up onto the roof but that is the iconic memory of this onslaught. Man I enjoyed watching Gilly play, he played the game the right way in both spirit and intent.
This guy is the best keeper ever played cricket till date. Look at the success rate of his team where he played 96 tests. He dropped a catch in 2008 test series and decided that this would be his last test series. Kudos for playing the cricket it is set to be played and entertaining us. I used to bunk my school to see you opening with great mark Waugh. Me being an indian always felt bad whenever u got out. Gilly was such a barometer and dangerous asset for the Aussies. He could play up the top with such freedom and if he was out cheaply, the Aussies could still knuckle down and consolidate. If he scored highly and at a high strike rate, which was usually the case, it put the Aussies in a strong position instantly. Legend of the game!
Gilchrist was always a big game winner and single handedly took the game away in 1999, 2003 and 2007 finals and the 3 finals were against Asian teams Pakistan, India and Srilanka . Most teams may still not have an answer to his onslaught even today !!!!
I was in the back of a Ford Falcon Wagon, parked in the shade, in Adelaide on a stinker, listening to the ABC Grandstand for the entire innings, it brought a tear to my eye for sure. Lots of true cricket fans delighted in the Gilchrist Career, including me from the 1994/95 shield season onwards.

having doubts, very hot day, starting off well, getting the messaging wrong, all culminating into one of the great innings of test cricket. Sometimes everything comes together to create the perfect moment. 2006 in Perth is a perfect example of that.
