    One of the greatest moments in Australian Cricketing history. Steve Waugh was the best captain Australia ever had, he was a cold hearted tactician who was a genius. One of the greatest centuries ever made, a true captain's knock. An inspiration to all Australian's and cricketers across the world.

      I'd rank Border and Ian Chappell ahead of Steve Waugh as captains, but he was certainly up there.

    • @Key_highway
      @Key_highway 4 роки тому +5

      Fuz Capp I personally rank Chappell low on the scale simply for the disgrace that was the underarm incident

    • @Fuzcapp
      @Fuzcapp 4 роки тому +5

      @@Key_highway Wrong Chappell. The underarm incident was Greg Chappell leaning on younger brother, Trevor. Ian Chappell is the older brother, who captained Australia earlier in the 70s. Ian inherited a similar situation to Border, taking over a ramshackle, easy-beat team from Bill Lawry and turning it into a steal powerhouse. If you watch the underarm incident, you'll see Ian Chappell's right-hand man, Rod Marsh, trying to discourage Greg Chappell from sinking to the underarm delivery. There is absolutely no way Ian Chappell would've miscounted the overs to have the wrong bowler delivering the last over, and there is no way, given the same circumstances, that Ian Chappell would've ordered the underarm bowl. Ian Chappell was also responsible for standing up to the Aust Cricket Board - especially Bradman - to get better pay and travel conditions for the players. A lot of players from the era rank Ian Chappell the best captain ever. I am pretty sure it was Ian Chappell's attitude that inspired Alan Border and Steve Waugh. Like you, I don't rank Greg Chappell as a captain at all, even without the underarm incident.

      @@MuhammadFaisal-gz3bu in my lifetime Alan boarder and Michael Clarke. There was an innings in South Africa where Australia was getting skittled by Steyn in particular. Clarke was out of form, unpopular in Australia. Then he went into bat. I remember him getting hit by the ball 5-6 times while struggling to make contact. But he touched it out to 20 then worked to 50 and then dominated to 100+ . It was eerily similar to Steve waugh in 95 at the windies.

Now, more than ever, surrounded by bushfires that do not bode well for us on Sunday/Monday, we need that spirit. I was running up and down in front of the SCG hill setting off mexican waves with the fans, but will never forget the roar of the crowd when steve stroked the final ball of the day through the covers - it was deafening - and didn't we give it to the Barmy Army. I also remember joining the throng of spectators marching from the ground to the bars around Moore Park singing "Steve Waugh, Steve Waugh, Steve Waugh, Steve Waugh" to the tune of old lang sine.
