Connie Kirby I think the main thing I would do is to wet my hair in the sink, or in the bathtub. Using the spray bottle kind of took forever and I don’t think my hair got quite wet enough. But overall I really liked it!

I'm totally lazy in the morning, so my method is for those who like to sleep until the last possible second.
I wash, condition, curl cream, gel, Denman brush, and dry my hair upside-down with a deep diffuser at night and DON'T SCRUNCH THE CRUNCH! I sleep in a satin bonnet. I neck-down shower in the morning, and get ready - dress and makeup. The last thing I do is remove the bonnet, scrunch the crunch upside down about 25 times, then fluff at the scalp very lightly, then flip right-side up. A pick finishes the fluffing, a little hairspray, and I'm ready to go! No wetting, no lengthy styling. Easy peasy and cuts down my 'get ready' time by 45 minutes!

@@sarahkp729 Try to stick to the basics and maybe split your routine. I just tried the method in this video and it was significantly easier to split the routine rather than doing it all in one go. Don't forget that as your hair gets healthier, it will require less wash days which means less lengthy routines. I used to see this whole CGM process as long and annoying, but as I learn to love myself, I've come to really appreciate this time with myself and caring for my body in a way that is mindful and honoring. It may sound silly, but getting to know my hair and what it likes and doesn't like has helped me see my body differently and really appreciate all she's done for me, even when I hated her in the past.

I have been doing this for several months now and it has really been working for me. I wash and condition at night and let my hair dry with a little leave in. I put my hair in a bonnet for sleep. In the morning I completely soak my hair (that seems to be the trick to this) over the tub and add my stylers. I plop while I have my coffee and then take my hair down to air dry a little while I put on my makeup. Then I diffuse the rest of the way before I get dressed. This routine seems to be the best for me so far. BTW, your hair looks great and love your videos.

I love what this did to your waves/curls! It looks so curly!
I have fine, wavy hair and if I damp style instead of putting in stylers in the shower with soaking wet hair, I get ringlets. I think putting in stylers with soaking wet hair stretches out my curls/waves because all the water weighs them down. I get out of the shower, I use a wet brush or Denman brush to create clumps when my hair is still very wet, then I scrunch out excess water with a microfiber towel. After that, I put in my mousse and gel. That gives me the curliest results.

So I just tried this hack and OH. MY. PEARLS. This is perfect for me and my crazy busy life with 3 small children! After my kids were in bed, I washed my hair then deep conditioned for 45 min in a shower cap, then rinsed really well and added a little bit of leave-in. I let it air dry for a couple hours then did a pineapple before bed. In the AM I gently brushed my hair, then soaked it in the shower, added a little bit of leave-in and then my styling products. It's 90% dry right now but I can already tell that this method will be my go-to. Especially since I have the most time to spend on my hair in the evenings but not enough energy to do the whole routine before bed.
So THANK YOU for making this video! It's a game changer for me. Also I noticed your method of applying products is to finger comb them through your hair. I used to do praying hands only because I was afraid of clump separation but I noticed the product wasn't being evenly applied that way. So I tried finger combing the way you did and WOW. Also a game changer. I'm super pumped to see how my curls improve from here on out!

I just started the CGM and I'm so hoping this method works for my hair. It usually takes 6-8 hours for my hair to dry because it's very long, so washing and night, letting it dry, and styling in the morning sounds brilliant!

I love this, I have been doing a variation of this, but I haven’t been using as much gel and maybe that’s why my waves are not lasting. I was scared to use too much gel in that it would weigh my hair down and make it look greasy, but I think now after watching this I haven’t been using enough. I’ve been inspired to try some new things tomorrow morning!

    • @curious_k8
      @curious_k8 4 роки тому +3

Same here! I did what she did, which was to finger comb the products through my hair in sections (instead of one giant clump of gel and praying hands.) It has worked fabulously! I've always been hesitant to add too much product out of fear it would weight it down but oddly, it works better with more product.

I just had my first successful 2nd day wear for my hair down since I started my mostly cg journey. And the only way I managed that was 3x as much gel as I'd normally use, and on the first day I didn't break the casts or touch my hair much at all. I carefully pulled the coils up unto a hair clip bun situation, went about my relatively quiet day, and slept as normal. Today, I dry scrubbed my roots upside down, and scrunched out any crunchiness still left, and I actually had second day curls.
Usually by day 2, if it's not too greesy looking at the roots, it has zero curl left, so I don't want to wear it down because it has no shape and I don't want to heat style.
I'd love to see people with similar issues share how they manage to get multiple days of wear without damp refreshing. I'd need to dunk my head under the tub faucet to re wet it, and if I'm going that far I feel like I may as well just wash it. 😞

I know this is an old post and I just started cgm, but I found on nonwash days if I take a spray bottle with water and a little conditioner, gently finger detangle, scrunch, gel and scrunch, then wait again to scrunch out crunch my hair actually seems curlier than after styling on wash day.

I had an epiphany a couple of months ago that water was weighing down my hair on wash day styling. I began spraying my hair on refresh days with just enough water to dampen it, add a little gel or cream, scrunch it back up and diffuse enough to set a cast. I was getting so much more wave on refresh days than on wash days once I started doing that. It gets pretty frizzy though, and I have these weird stringy bits leftover from wash day. I think I’m going to try leave in and air dry only on wash day instead of product and diffusing on wash day, then styler/diffuse the next day like you did. Maybe that will take care of the stringy bits. I think a bit more water on refresh day will help the frizz.

I think this method helped your volume a lot!! It helps mine, too. :) This is very similar to what I have done for months, now, and it works for me!
I like to sleep on mine wet, so I sleep through my dry time! I shower at night, then plop for a long time, with or without leave-in, then take off the plop and sleep on it wet. In the morning it's mostly dry, and I spritz with water (just dampening, not drenching) and style with mousse or gel. Since it's not soaking wet, it dries in just an hour or two, and the product stays in my hair instead of getting diluted by water and soaked away in my plop tee. It's also nice because if I'm running super late, I get decent results just spraying some Garnier Wonder Waves in my hair. It's not perfect, but still presentable.
This method helps my waves to not weigh themselves down, and I'm not touching my hair while it dries, so it's less frizzy. I try to be careful not to re-wet my roots or they will lose volume. My under layers do get straight from being slept on, but they don't show much!

This does not make anything go faster (the claim) The way you dampened it is more convincing to me. Also the wrapping of the hair at bedtime so it won't get all crazy. Although I think on EXTREAMLY dry hair, like mine, it just won't work. If I try this, it will have to be when I know I'm not going out. In the morning I wet it fully under the bathtub faucet, add and rinse a little bit of conditioner, wet plop for 5 minutes, then add curl cream, foam and scrunch it all in with some gel. I then scrunch for 2-3 minutes with a tee shirt type towel, let it set for 10-15 minutes, then diffuse. I don’t know why, but rewetting my hair with a spray bottle always causes frizz.

Loved this! I definitely have better results if I wet down and apply/re-apply mousse and gel on day 2 (I don't use one of the misting bottles though, just a kind of praying hands thing to spread the water through). Also I find it's better for me if my roots are that bit dryer before I start styling - cuts down on drying time as well!

This looks like my refresh method! But I found that just getting water in my hands, smoothing it over my hair and scrunching the water into my hair works better than the spray bottle. I get a TON of frizz if I refresh with the infinity spray bottle.
I never thought about putting product during my refresh though. Think I may try it!

Have you tried shingling? It's time consuming and similar to finger coiling but you don't have to twirl each piece. I'd love to see how it works on your waves! Maybe even twirl half of your head but don't twirl the other half to see if it makes a huge difference on waves? It would work for me as someone who's chronically ill as 1. It splits the huge task into two. And 2. I usually feel pretty rubbish in the day so I never manage to get my hair washed until night time and it's either like 4am by time it's dry and I sleep, or I have to go to bed with wet plopped hair which isn't good 🙈 I'm gonna try this next time 🙂
Definitely not as great for those who have to rush and head out to work though! Unless you want to split the task in two and don't mind leaving with wet/damp hair 🤷🏻‍♀️

Seems this doesn’t make much difference to washing it the same day. You had to wet it enough that it seems it would have been shorter overall to wash it at the same time because of how wet you get it. Looks like a good technique for several days into the style.

@@SwavyCurlyCourtney yeah, you did very well! I really liked your results, it's just that I have definitely tried to mist my hair to damp before and have felt the hand cramps. If you try it again, would recommend a spray & mister combo. I use my spray to get my hair generally wet, and use the mist to even out the amount of water throughout my hair. I've notice that if I do this I can also go longer in between washes.

@@shakeaboot I get very good results with simply filling up the sink with water and using "prayer hands" to dampen my hair one section at a time. I like it because I can really feel when I've achieved "just right" wetness to reshape each section. When I use a sprayer, I invariably end up with a few soaking wet strands that take forever to dry and others that end up stringy and stretched out because they didn't get enough water, which in turn make my barely-there clumps all wonky. Also, my hair tends to "sponge up" and get puffy if I use a mist or spray. I feel the praying hands motion helps me smooth my hair and prevent frizz.

@@ImNewPJ It's wrapping your hair in a T-shirt or microfiber towel, instead of terrycloth. This helps reduce frizz a LOT! There are several different ways of plopping, and different points in your routine you can plop. For example: the classic plop for CG is to put in all your products and plop for 20 minutes, then clip, and diffuse or air dry. However, for some people, all that products bothers their scalp, so they plop shorter, or before products, or halfway through. I usually plop after applying leave-in and a little gel, sleep on it wet, then spritz with water in the morning and apply more gel or mousse.
