Hey there guys! I hope this video is encouraging! I know that I have definitely felt discourage while doing the CGM. I just wanted to throw in the microfiber towel and quit! But take time...lots and lots of time to get this game simi mastered. And that's ok! Give yourself grace as your hair heals and your are learning!
Swavy Curly Courtney Hi Courtney, thanks for sharing this. I’m super discouraged, because I have been going curly girl for almost a full year and I’ve seen very little progress, even after getting three curly girl cuts And religiously keeping track of what I use on my hair. I think the problem is I still don’t know what my hair needs. My hair type is extremely similar to yours (very fine, and barely wavy). After watching your video, I’m not sure what products work best for you, could you please elaborate on that? I’m just stuck in a rut, and tired of styling with very little results. Typically my hair will look good for an hour or two, then it goes back to its limp, mildly frizz, anti-definition state. Would love to hear your thoughts!
Thank you so much - I have just started but have also fallen off the wagon. So much “baggage” attached to my hair. Anyway I found doing the aphogee treatment per ua-cam.com/video/2gJxPt0IzZE/v-deo.html ( beauty by Lisa 101) really helped !
Love this video. Your tips are very helpful. You are so right in that you need to try different products and methods and don't give up! I just learned my holy grail is the denman brush! Such a game changer for me!
@monkeygirl000 Not Swavy Curly Courtney here, but I've watched a lot of her videos. And yes, she does have some natural wave to her hair that she started enhancing. There's something called The Curly Girl Method that a lot of us have started following to enhance natural wavy, curly or kinky/coily hair. I've learned that a number of us thought we had "straight but frizzy" or "barely wavy" hair but once we learned how to take care of it well, a lot more of the natural wave/curl pattern started coming out.
This is so encouraging! I love seeing all the curly girl transition photos, and it seems hard to find them. My waves have seemed so stringy since starting, so it’s good to see that the youtubers with gorgeous hair started where I am, haha.
Hi curl friend 🧡 I will share some of my journey to make you feel better as well. In february 2019 I went to get a haircut (i would say about 3-4 inches) and from the next day i had planned to take care of my hair. I started oiling on washday and I went sulfate free with a gentle non foaming cleanser (not silicone free) and i got my first leave in. My hair looked better, not great but it was wavy and I was happy. In september I got a trim and after that i did a few final wash and I went silicone free and full cgm: for a month my hair was HORRIBLE, so so dry and stringy that i actually cried, it looked like i needed to cut 5 more inches off. I told myself to wait for 2 months and to only cut after that. After maybe a month and a half from the haircut my hair magically got a lot better, so I guess the worst part of my transitioning was done. Still my ends were so much straigher than all the rest! This month it finally looks better all the way to the ends, which are still stringier because i had it lightened up to 2018, but it actually looks decent and it is very soft and shiny. I am very happy now and looking forward to new improvement, but it has been a year of taking care of my hair, in which satisfaction only came towards the very end! Be patient and learn protective styles like braids because those saved me from excessive washing an bad hair depression 😂 good luck 🧡💪
@@MsFFFUUUU girl you are on point about hair depression! I never heard that but it is exactly what I'm going thru! Glad to know there is hope at the end of this long bad hair day tunnel!
I had back to back lackluster wash days and got so discouraged and I'm only 3 weeks in! I did a clarifying wash and used no products and it is basically straight. It made me realise how much I miss the waves so I am going to keep at it.
For me I'm not even focused on my curl pattern. I'm just trying to deal with the texture of my hair. I used to believe that the post shower floof I had was just something I had to deal with. That any time I washed my hair I'd have to wait a day for it to look...normal. What my hair will actually turn out like? Who knows but I'm here to learn to actually take of my hair. That being said, we all need encouragement when our hair dries out to looking like you've had electric shock on only parts of your head. So thank you! You're lovely!
I LOVE that you addressed the time you stopped doing the “curly girl” part and went back to wash/condition/brush. That’s what I currently do, and I love how my hair looks when I shower, comb, air dry. It’s smooth and shiny. I started attempting curly girl-esque methodology yesterday with the products I already had on hand (thanks, quarantine), and I think I’ll successfully get somewhere in the 2 range and have it looking nice once I refine my techniques, but I was worried about not being able to go back to that simple, wet brush, silky hair method I’ve had for years, because I like how my hair looks like that. It’s encouraging to know that I can go back and forth as long as I’m making sure to use good products in my hair in the meantime!
Loved this! I've been in exactly one year and am NOT going back! It's funny now I get comments often about my hair and many tell me they wish they had hair like mine...crazy!!! To all those....hang in there, it IS worth it! Everyone's journey is different , some take more time and some less....enjoy the ride!
with all the COVID and self-isolation going on right now, I'm using this time to try and transition my hair. I'm only 4 days in and I'm already tired of my hair looking sad and dejected 😭I don't know if I can keep this up for literal MONTHS before it starts looking halfway okay
You got this! It does take time but seriously each day is worth it. Because I swear you hair will be getting more healthy every day you suffer through!
same im 2 weeks in im struggliing and my hair comes out different everytime, what bothers me the most is that my hair curls up pretty well but it gets so frizzy and tangled 😭
I’ve been CG for a year now, and I’ve noticed my hair has mood swings where it’ll look amazing one day and soooo bad the next. I’m taking this time of isolation to try new techniques and products!
I have been doing the curly girl method for about 5 months or so. Whenever I start having bad hair days repeatedly I do a deep conditioning session. I see an immediate difference afterwards. I use Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strength & Restore Treatment Masque and a deep conditioning heat cap. I have 2A, 2B, 2C hair (parts are curlier than other parts).
Do you have a specific moisture heavy mask or deep conditioner you like? I know my ends need more moisture (because it's so dry I'm constantly getting bloody noses) and my ends are really frizzy shortly after my hair looks decent
@@saraschriner9797 I use Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strength & Restore Treatment Masque which has a couple of different types of protein in the formula. After watching Courtney's video on the balance of protein vs moisturizing ingredients, it makes sense why that works so well for me in reducing frizz and providing volume to my hair. I am now trying to pay more attention to the balance of moisture vs protein in the products I use.
This is really encouraging... But my biggest struggles are 1) how to know if you're doing it right and it just takes time or if you are doing it wrong and need to change your routine and 2) how to look professional enough in the transition to be able to go to work and events without issues. I'm 5 days in and every day I'm scared my boss is going to say something to me and I have a wedding tomorrow that I don't want to look gross for 😞
This is exactly what I needed today. I had a failed wash day (flash drying, too much product. . .) this morning. I'm only five months in so I know it will take more time. You continue to be an inspiration and a bubbly source of great information. You're a ray of sunshine in this cold, dark winter. Peace.
I cannot thank you enough for making this video! I've only been doing the CG method for a couple of weeks, & already I felt like crying every time I wash/refresh my hair, which is currently a dry, frizzy transiton-y mess. I was feeling so dejected about the whole thing last night & wondering why everyone else seemed to have amazing results. This video has encouraged me to persevere through these constant bad hair days. Time will tell, but I am feeling so much better about the entire process. Thanks again! xx
I have been doing the CGM for a month and I have seen such an amazing change. I always thought I had straight hair. I went from 2a hair to 2b hair already. I don’t know if I’ll ever get curls, but I’ll have fun trying.
Thanks Courtney. You have no idea how much you have helped me. I sort of started the CGM years ago, and bought one product line thinking I was done. I was also transitioning to my natural hair color which is now gray. I too thought that it was too much work, and was ready to give up on the method when I found your channel. I have learned soooooooo much! My hair is looking better than it has my whole life, and I have you to thank for it. You are fun and charming, but more importantly, you have taught this old dog some new tricks! I’m afraid I have become rather aggravating because I so often start sentences with “Swavy Curly Courtney says…” 😆
I am also transitioning to gray while doing the CGM and find Courtey's videos to be very helpful. I only have about 2" of gray so far, so I have a long way to go.
The pictures of fellow swavies and curlies at the end of the video are priceless. I went back and paused every frame to look at them in detail. Beautiful, all of them! Thank you for including them!
I know you are a woman of faith, so I just have to share this, I have started praying in front of the mirror, “Lord if it’s better for my soul that my hair look terrible today, let your will be done”😊 thanks for all the videos and encouragement, may God Bless you!
This gives me so much hope! For the first 14 years of my life I didn't even realize I had curls because I would just brush my hair out all the time to get rid of the "tangles." Even after I realized I had some waves/curls I had no clue how to style them. Around 16 I started trying different curly hair techniques, but being the impatient person I am, I got frustrated and quit after 2 or 3 days of not seeing any real results. I'm 19 now and I just started again a few days ago, and I'm sticking with it this time!
I got curly hair with puberty. Lol I went from pin straight hair that would not hold a curl to my bottom layer being curly, middle wavy and top straight. It’s only been in the last two years (I’m 25 now) that the rest of my hair has finally turned curly.
Your hair looks so pretty today! I love how you point out that doing what other people do is no where near as effective as getting to know your own hair and listening to it! So true.
Thank you for the inspiration to keep at it. It helps to see that your journey had some bumps along the way. I quit the CGM after 2 months figuring it wasn’t working for me because I just wasn’t wavy. So I focused on improving my hair health, sticking to CG approved products and staying away from heat styling, but giving up wavy styling techniques. I kept watching your channel because a) you’re adorable and b) it was helping me learn how to care for my hair. The glycer-frizz struggle is real, wavy or straight! 2 months later I set aside my wave envy and started tinkering with ways to style my almost-not-there-waves. And lo and behold there are baby waves! Just in the past week I’m finally figuring out what my 1C/2A hair needs. Almost 6 months of trial and error but I’m finally having decent wavy days, maybe not by anyone else’s definition but I’m happy! It’s been a lot to learn. But your videos have helped get me here and I’m excited now to see where I might end up. Thank you!
Omg seeing your pics of the beginning of your journey made me feel so much better, I've only been at this two weeks and I end up brushing my hair out and putting in in bun! I've been feeling like I'm doing it wrong! I was so close to doing a big chop! My hair pretty much looks the same as yours did in the beginning so I'm gonna stick with it!
Had my first dry cut last month and my waves still haven't recovered!! I'm so glad you mentioned that because I have been wondering what happened! I loved seeing your journey!
@@SwavyCurlyCourtney no you really aren't. I watched your video about curl shock and I was so glad it wasn't just me. Then watching this today... I never thought about it being the dry cut. It's worth trying a regular cut again. My hair always looks frayed at the ends and curls are ugh for a very long time.
My hair does NOT respond well to dry cuts! I went back to good old regular wet cuts, and my hair looked better immediately afterwards instead of going into the curl shock that so many people lament.
I'm a week into cg and this has been SO ENCOURAGING. Thank you for all that you do!!!! I'm no longer frying my hair with a straightener to fight my curls and it's been so liberating!
You have been the biggest inspiration to me since I began my curly girl journey 10 months ago! I enjoyed this video and watching your transformation. Thank you for being so real and talking about your struggles (even though I think you are absolutely stunning in every photo). Because of you, I keep going and I am thrilled to be able to embrace the real me because "I am fearfully and wonderfully made" Psalm 139:14.🌸
Hey Courtney, I'm in Ireland. I've always had waist length long, wavy hair. In fact(fact, not fiction) many and all hair stylists in this country have accused me of "plaiting" my hair to get the wave that far. Long shorter - - cut my hair into an extreme V, then tried the hack for apple cider vinegar combined with other hacks of yours.... I've RINGLETS. FFS. Sorry, I've been attempting CG for over a year, but your varied and open approach is the FIRST that produced the result where even three days post wash I have Bouncy, curly, wavy hair. Early days. THANK YOU!!! XXX
For me using Olaplex regularly helped a loooot in the transition state to make my hair look good !! But also the more you cut it, the faster your transition will go ( I did two big chops, so it only took me 6 months) ❤️🌸
I have your EXACT curl pattern and you are giving me hope 🤞🤞🤞 I did a pretty big chop last week and it helped SO much! I’ve found mousse works better than gel in my hair
This is so helpful, I’m really struggling with second day curls but I only started around Christmas so it could still take a while. I’m really excited to see how my hair progresses!
7:19 omg that was me! It feel's so amazing to know that others have experienced these weird ups and downs since starting cgm. Instagram and youtube makes it seem very linear and it seriously bogged me down because my hair just went straight for long time and i didn't know what to do! I also found that I'm happy with my minimal effort hair style. I usually just wash my hair and let it air dry and i get these beautiful curls just at the end of my hair and I love it. When I put in a whole lot of effort, I get stronger waves, especially in front, but honestly for everyday thing its not worth it! Thanks for this video Courtney! I'm going to share it with my friend who thought she would see difference after one wash haha
Your 5 month point is exactly where I am at. I’m almost to 5 months as a CG and I just washed my hair this morning and did just shampoo, conditioner and a leave in because I’m just so tired of putting in all this work and not seeing the results I want. But your video gave me some hope. Thank You.
I started the CGM about three weeks ago when all of a sudden some of my hair decided to be a little wavy after washing it. I always thought I had straight hair (even though I wished my hair was wavy - there's some wavy hair on my mum's side) and earlier attempts with the CGM failed. But now, with a bit of experimenting, more and more waves form after each wash and they're here to stay, even after sleeping! I'm happy I found your channel because it's a great introduction to the CGM and also very encouraging to see your journey. Thank you!
What a huge help it was to see the good bad and ugly of the CGM! Very informative.... thanks for your honesty and the hope that all is not lost. Love your videos!💗
I kind of unknowingly started “CG” after my baby was born & I was too lazy to heat style 😂 I wish I had before photos of my hair but I wasn’t good at documenting.
After 4 months of disappointment, I’m taking an indefinite break from CG styling. I spent hours on my hair and hated it 80% of the time- it looked good for maybe 20 minutes after styling and then went flat, frizzy, and tangled. I think my hair just isn’t curly enough. Even though I quit bleaching my hair, chopped off inches of damage, learned how to style my hair without daily heat, and figured out better products to use, the results vs the effort it took just wasn’t worth it for me. Now I style my hair with soft pillow rollers, brush it once a day, and use hairspray. The predictability and overall look makes me so much happier with my hair. I’m sad I couldn’t make CG work for me but I guess it just be like that sometimes
Laura--It sounds like you found a styling routine that works for your hair and lifestyle, that's fantastic! If all you learned from following the CGM is that it doesn't work for your waves and that you need rollers to shape your hair, that's still a gain. Hopefully you also learned which ingredients to look for and what to avoid in order to keep your scalp and strands healthy. Don't be disappointed or sad, if you're happy with the routine you eventually developed, then that's good as gold!
I am also struggling. My hair look quite okay the first day, but after the night it's just very tangled and frizzy, I have to brush it out and the waves are gone. I have no idea how to prevent it.
@@evastra1047 A few ideas, just to trouble shoot: Are you sleeping with your hair gathered in a pineapple? (That would minimize the tangles.) Are you using a silk or satin pillowcase? (That would prevent the frizz.) You probably have tried everything, but it doesn't hurt to go back to basics and see if being consistent with those steps will help. One more question: have you tried "refreshing" after brushing? I have 2b hair, and even if I brush, I'm able to dampen my hair and scrunch, and the waves come back.
I never thought you rattled on or talk to much. The number one reason I watch you is because you make sense. There are quite a few just chatter. You explain thing very well to the point. You introduce thing lightly then teach. Others just stay silly no teaching. Please do not change.
As someone who just started the CGM (like, literally last week) this was super encouraging! My current hair (which has been box-dyed bright red for two years and is thus very dry and damaged) does basically what yours did in those first few pictures. Now I know there’s hope!
I'm super new to the wavy/curly journey. From what I've seen in my hair so far is that it really depends on the condition of your hair prior to starting. I rarely used heat(once every other month at most), use professional products(cosmetology student), and only demi permanent pro color once a month. I'm only 2 weeks in and I'm seeing a lot of really exciting process. This process has also helped me see how much is lacking in the pro hair community when it comes to all hair textures, it's better than it used to be but there's still so much to be learned.
Thank you for this video! I finally watched it yesterday, after having some rubbish hair days and being generally disheartened, and today I finally had day 2 hair that I was happy to wear down to work! I just had to share because your video made me worry less about what my hair was doing and when I shifted my mindset I found myself finally happy with where I'm at with my curly journey!
Courtney, this is my second time trying the CG method and your videos have made it so much easier for me! Thank you so much for sharing your journey and knowledge. 💕💕
Honestly this gives me so much hope 😭😭 my hair looks EXACTLY like yours did in the beginning. I’m on month 2 of my curly hair journey. It’ll get there it’s just gonna take time. It gets better every week! Love your videos! ❤️
Oh, there are a lot of _curl snobs_ out there! They have fits about people with wavy hair calling it curly. "I am SOO sick of wavies calling their hair curly! Girl, it's wavy, get over it!" I don't understand the malice they project. It's ridiculous. Do they feel threatened by wavies joining their exclusive club?! 😂 Yes, technically Courtney's hair is wavy, not curly. It's considered _officially curly_ when it's 3a or higher. Basically when it achieves the ringlets that Courtney was chasing in the beginning. I don't care what category her hair falls into. It's beautiful, and my goal is to reach that luminous health and shine that her hair has.
Princess Pea I like to call them curl assholes rather than curl snobs. 😆 Can’t we all just love each other’s hair? 1A - 4C is beautiful and perfect the way it is.
Thank you so much for this! I needed this encouragement. Five months in, it's definitely way better, but I still feel like it's no way near as good as I want it. I now have hope!
I just started my journey last week. I went from straight frizzy hair with very loose s waves to around a 2a/2b the first time i did it. It fell out the next day because i just used a sea salt spray and slept on it. I was starting to reconsider it because it wasn't looking great the next time i tried it and i wasn't sure if i was forcing my hair to be wavy. This video really helped me understand that it wont look good for a while and it's part of the process. I just picked up the all about curls starter kit i'm excited to try it out.
Thank you! I started this process a year ago and it has taken forever to find the right products for by 2b waves. Too heavy, not enough hold, etc. BUT it's healthy!! It's so healthy now.
You have the most beautiful hair I've ever seen. I don't like ringlets! They look like Nellie Olson in Little House on the Prairie. Grown women with them look a little silly from my perspective. You have PERFECT HAIR!!! You have the kind of curly/wavy hair that everyone wants when they say, "I wish I had curly hair." Loved seeing your hair journey. I've been a subscriber for only a month and enjoy your videos. Thanks.
Thank you so much for this video (understatement). I have just started out as I think that I might have ever so slightly wavy hair. I'm on my first day and thinking, well I should just give up already, but then you mentioned noodle hair and I have frizzy noodle hair! So now I'm excited about learning how to make my hair healthy and learn how to tune into what my hair is asking for. That's my take-home from this. Definitely saving this video as I know this uncomfortable sensation will come up time and time again because my ego is striving for beautiful, frizz free waves and that's not realistic. Gotta be in this for the long haul. It's a lifestyle change not just a hairstyle. Thank you very much x
I have been trying the curly girl method since Dec 15/2019 I am so pleased with my results to date. My hair is healthy, shiny and my waves/curls have brought me numerous compliments. We are our own worst critics, we need to embrace our individual differences and similarities in our hair and overall being ! I love your videos as they have kept me informed, have taught me to celebrate my "hair" successes and on those not so great hair days, realize that " this too shall pass" Your advice to listen to your own hair is so wise. Keep up the amazing videos !
Holyyyyyyyyy I thought I was going to try to see if my hair was curly but there is no way I have the willpower or the energy to make this kind of commitment sweet Jesus...you are an impressive and tenacious person.
Your hair color is very close to my hair color. I've never liked it on myself, but seeing it on you looking so good makes me rethink it. Maybe it looks better to other people than it does to me lol.
really needed to find this video - I just restarted the CGM after giving up because I wasnt seeing any progress. It is so hard to stay motivated when your hair is looking worse than it did before
This video and a lot of the other videos you've made are such gems. Even though we have different hair textures, I am learning so much. Thank you for explaining things so simply and percisely. The first video I saw of yours was the video about 'flash drying', where the product actually pulls water from your hair leaving it rough and frizzy. I was so shocked, I hadn't even heard of that before. I am excited to experiment with my own curls! I'm taking notes!
CGM for 1 year 3 months. I’ve been taking selfies along the way too, and boy, do they help me see how far I’ve come. It also helps, like you say, to listen to my hair, and to let go of the need to have perfect hair.
Thank you for this video! I have been doing the CGM for seven months. My last washday, which was Tuesday, was the very first time I ever felt my hair was “seaweedy.” My first thought was, this must be what Courtney means by “seaweedy hair.” That also happened to be my best washday since beginning the CGM!
I just started CG a month ago today. During the second week I used a curl cream to heavy for my hair and had horrendous second day hair. I took a picture of myself and posted it to my CG Journey album and said they couldn't all be good hair days.
I am so glad I found this video. I am one month in the CG method and I have been screaming in frustration at my hair. This shows me that I just have to hold on and the effort will pay off. I always thought I had pin straight hair and I would die for some curls, volume or anything! Now I found out that I have some structure, I think it's 2a, but there are some random 2b curls sometimes. I think? Well.. Just keep calm and carry on.
Thank you so much, I'm starting to get frustrated with my hair and I'm not sure why it's becoming stringy. So I'm going to take a break for awhile and let my hair relax.
Hi, I’m a 2b/2c transitioning but I used to be a full 3a. Currently in quarantine and I had my big chop a couple days ago, I passed from an almost waist length hair to a bob haha. my hair was so long yet some strands didn’t curl that much and I got tired of trying them to curl and my ends were so thin, so yeah, I did it. I know is going to take a while to grow but now will be healthier and curlier. Let’s hang in there people! I know is frustrating sometimes but We can do it. Just keep getting more information about it, understand your own hair and see what works for you. Xo!
I started like 4 days ago and I feel so overwhelmed that I don’t even know what to do every day of the week. Can someone share like a routine for everyday of the week? Like when to apply products when to cowash and when to really wash. 😩
if you are in the 2a-2c spectrum, I follow the cowash-cowash-lowpoo method (that order, not necessarily three times per week) and once a month you do a clarifying wash :)
I had 8 inches cut off, and my curls are suffering terribly. The razor she used was probably the worst thing she could have used on my fine hair. I'm just starting my CGM too....still a lot of frizz. I keep seeing videos cursing DevaCurl. Is it that? Sigh...
@@luv2garden132 so I only use devacurl but I recently herd they are going through some changes.... I hope it dosent effect me so far iv been ok with mine the beginning is tough but once you get to the halfway mark it gets better !!! :)
@@j.h.christianartist5659 Since time won't quit flying by, the halfway mark will be here soon enough, haaha! Regarding DevaCurl, it's like mass hysteria, a few people say it's the root of their hair falling out (one said it ripped her hair out, it didn't), and then everyone says the same thing. Hair changes, seasons changes, our bodies change. I have, have had, an incredible amount of dryness. I have, have had, a lot of hair loss. Is my hair thinning? It was before I started DevaCurl...lol I could see my grandma's scalp, so there's that 🤔 Genetics, hormones, stress....
@@luv2garden132 lol it will fly by! I'm not sure... I have very thick hair but I did freak out the first few times I washed my hair I lost alot but its cuz I'm not brushing it every day now its once or twice a week so it builds up and stays in there till wash day it was crazy at first but now i know its normal...but that's just my hair lol hope it goes well for you!! :D it could be just the change going into the curly girl ways it's very different at first :P
Thank you! I am a few months in but wasn't using the water properly. Nor did I have the night bonnet and silk pillow case. I am still getting stringy curls but after watching you and others clump and plop, I think it is coming together. It is definately a learning curve. Your curls are beautiful. Good for you not listening/reading into the curl police. Your coils look great!
My hair hasn't got alot of damage as I've never dyed or bleached it and my mum never allowed me to use heat tools, I already have curly have 2b curls so I just want to reduce my frizz. Hope this works.
I'm about six months into a modified cgm as I can't give up the highlights - I'm not ready for the white hairs to show (I bypassed grey). I started with wavy hair but now have a mixture of 2b/2c/3a curls going on, but I think there is more curl to come as I have started to get a load of spirals. My hair is very long/thick/course/high porosity/highlighted/dry and I can get a full week out of a washday with a couple of refreshes. The biggest eureka moment for me was using leave in products without glycerin (helped the frizz immensely). Scotland is very wet most of the year and the frizz was a nightmare. The other biggest help to me is a bonnet - I'm a very restless sleeper. My curl pattern is improving all the time, but I'm getting better at listening to what my hair wants - it needs as much moisture and protein as I can give it. It's so thick/dry that it never feels weighed down unless I completely overdo the gel (which looks very Bon Jovi of the eighties). Another thing to remember is if I'm in a rush I clip it up in a funky updo, rather than trying to tame it and getting frustrated. Despite the highlights it is looking and feeling healthier, due to all the conditioning/treatments/gentle handling that are so much a part of the cgm. I'm enjoying my curls, but I don't beat myself up if it isn't the best wash day - I just put it in an updo and do a more intensive refresh the next day to correct any issues. I think using products geared towards your hair type is a big thing and involves a lot of trial and error. Try samples or travel sizes before splurging on products in case they aren't right for your hair, that has saved me a lot of money. As to anyone saying you don't have curly hair - what a load of rubbish. It is a looser type of curl than a 3c/4abc but so what - it's really pretty and shiny. Best wishes.
Such great advice! I wish I would have written down sooner what products worked for my hair. I wish I would have taken a piece of each CG influencer’s advice that WORKED for me. Interestingly enough when I started to do that 2 years in I found you🥰 I have high porosity, 3B/C fine, low density hair. I can’t do everything you have said but you have changed my hair for the better! Also-keep the science coming! No one’s results will be the same because we are all different and changing everyday as human bodies. 3 years in and still tweaking my routine. I am on a healthy hair journey-not CG or “natural.” I have hardly ever straightened my hair in 48 years😉
I am so grateful for this video! I've been fighting my hair texture ever since having my second baby and I finally figured out my hair was wanting to curl. I've been thinking of trying CGM for a while and this helped give me the confidence to give it a try and know that it will get better. First week was pretty hinky, but week 2 is already shaping up better. Thanks for being brave enough to share your journey!
I have felt ready to quit. Thank you boo. It's been 5 months and wash days feel like Russian roulette. Everyone raved to me to try jessicurl, so today I had an all jessicurl product wash day, all jessicurl styling products and its probably my worst hair day of all time. Hubby said I was having a "frizzy hair day" in front of everyone 😫 I seriously hope it gets better soon.
I haven't been doing the curly girl method, I've just not been using heat (3 months!) but I've been using the shampoo and conditioner that I bought last...still sulphates, silicones, and all that good stuff... BUT not using heat for 3 months has already made my hair SUPER curly!! I'm going to invest in some 'Not your Mother's Curl Talk' products, and I can't wait to see what my hair will look like when I use the right CGM approved products!! Your videos have helped so much in my research!! Thank you!!
I have been doing the cgm since July 2019 and I use gels and curl creams only for special occasions as they make me breakout. I can get good little waves and curls now with little product but I still have some areas that are straight and it looks kinda crazy, lol! I have also chopped off most of my hair so it's chin length and almost virgin. I am hoping time and persistence and patience will get all my hair to fall in line and look more uniformly wavy all over. I love your videos, I enjoy all your info and honesty :) Your hair is gorgeous btw
Thanks for this!! My journey has been a 14 months and only in the last 3 months has my started to bloom. My hair was very short and needed to grow. Then I needed to find the right products! Right now I'm loving Lus and Inahsi.
My hair used to be wavier and I wore it layered and natural for many years. When I moved to FL it turned into a dry, frizzy mess. My hair is fine, low density and no matter what product I use, no matter what method of application I use, my hair sticks to my head and whatever wave I get is gone by the end of the day. Refreshing is a nightmare and unless I start from scratch, my hair looks frizzy and dirty. Well, it is always frizzy! So I started to blow dry my hair. I love how soft and silky it feels when I do and I can go days without washing it. I still avoid parabens, sulfates, etc., use microfiber towels, sleep on satin, etc. But now I love my hair. I just don’t get all the work of the CGM with so little result. Oh well, call me a quitter.
Terry Kobrenski i am in the same situation! I’ve been following the curly girl method since somewhere around 2015, and I still haven’t learned how to style my hair. Now I blow dry it from time to time because it just looks and feels better. I like my curls, but I just don’t understand them yet...
Ines Invan I give you credit for keeping up the effort. To me, my hair and makeup has to be quick and easy. My curly hair just wasn’t either. It was a lot of study and trying different products and methods, and just too time consuming for a crappy result. Blow drying my hair is both quick and easy and gives me great results. The choice was a simple one for me. Good luck as you continue your curly hair mission.
Thanks for sharing your journey with us! I am JUST about to start my journey (waiting for the post person to deliver my first products today) and have been gobbling up videos to learn & prepare. This video of yours is really helpful in telling me what I might expect on my own journey. Thank you!
My dearest wish all of my life was to have curly hair. So much so that I got perms for 30 years, long or short. Although it took a perm really well and I chose good perms and good stlylists, and many people I knew always thought I was born with those curls, I always WANTED them to be real. COVID forced me to skip 4 haircuts in a row (I had a pixie and no perm) and I discovered that I DID have some curl! Not a lot but I was desperate to work with that. This is the second day of implementing some of your cheaper products and your techniques and although it certainly DOES take more time, it is SO WORTH IT!! Thank you for some hope that I may enjoy actual curly hair in the future. Cuz I am telling you! Curls make you look younger! And this 60 year old does not want to look every single one of her years. Thank you.
I just hit the 4-month mark and I've had such ups and downs; week 5 I turned a corner but it's been back and forth since then (especially each time the weather changes). So I loved seeing your journey in more detail and especially relate to where you were at months 4-5.
My waves have seemed so stringy since starting, so it’s good to see that the youtubers with gorgeous hair started where I am, haha.
i keep getting distracted by how shiny your hair is!
Karolina Kulik exactly its so beautiful
I needed this video so bad. I've been going a month and basically had limited success after the first wash. This gives me hope.
Hey, how’s your hair now?
🤗🤗🤗
Loved this! I've been in exactly one year and am NOT going back! It's funny now I get comments often about my hair and many tell me they wish they had hair like mine...crazy!!!
To all those....hang in there, it IS worth it! Everyone's journey is different , some take more time and some less....enjoy the ride!
YESSSS!!!!!
Could you share some tips?? I am on week one and I don't know how this works.
with all the COVID and self-isolation going on right now, I'm using this time to try and transition my hair. I'm only 4 days in and I'm already tired of my hair looking sad and dejected 😭I don't know if I can keep this up for literal MONTHS before it starts looking halfway okay
Charys Russell haha same decided to try today
You got this! It does take time but seriously each day is worth it. Because I swear you hair will be getting more healthy every day you suffer through!
Same figured it could look terrible while no one sees it 😅😅
same im 2 weeks in im struggliing and my hair comes out different everytime, what bothers me the most is that my hair curls up pretty well but it gets so frizzy and tangled 😭
I’ve been CG for a year now, and I’ve noticed my hair has mood swings where it’ll look amazing one day and soooo bad the next. I’m taking this time of isolation to try new techniques and products!
"Lovin' my curls; even if they're waves."
You're adorable! 😂
Deep conditioning makes my hair limp 😔😔
How do you do the curly girl method?
I am just starting the CG method and bought that shampoo, glad to hear it works.
“Dry frizzy angry broom!” Love it! So much fun to watch her.
maybe weird: but i love how high-energy you always are in your video’s without being too much 💕 i love your videos girl!!
You're so sweet! Thank you!
This is really encouraging... But my biggest struggles are 1) how to know if you're doing it right and it just takes time or if you are doing it wrong and need to change your routine and 2) how to look professional enough in the transition to be able to go to work and events without issues. I'm 5 days in and every day I'm scared my boss is going to say something to me and I have a wedding tomorrow that I don't want to look gross for 😞
I’m the same way but I’m also lucky enough to have a (new) coworker who told me I can ask her for advice.
THERE YOU GO! That is the best ever attitude to have!!!
Girl loose curls are curls
xglx yes! I love that
@@D5Family how is your hair now?
Thanks Courtney. You have no idea how much you have helped me. I sort of started the CGM years ago, and bought one product line thinking I was done. I was also transitioning to my natural hair color which is now gray. I too thought that it was too much work, and was ready to give up on the method when I found your channel. I have learned soooooooo much!
My hair is looking better than it has my whole life, and I have you to thank for it. You are fun and charming, but more importantly, you have taught this old dog some new tricks! I’m afraid I have become rather aggravating because I so often start sentences with “Swavy Curly Courtney says…”
😆
I love that you added several other people’s transformations!😍
YEAY! Haha, I was soooo frustrated I couldn't get more of them in, the darn files were corrupted! Argh!
Thank you!
I'm thinking that I have 1c/2a hair as well.
Oh wow! I'm so glad I'm not alone! Hahaha
“Strongly yucky noodles” 😄 man I felt that in my soul.. current situation 🙄
Stephanie M Me too.🙄
You have been the biggest inspiration to me since I began my curly girl journey 10 months ago!
Your hair looks beautiful !! Thank you for this tip 😌
@@tbhsandra thank you 😊
Doesn't Olaplex have Sulphates and Silicones and drying alcohols in it? So how is the curly girl method then?
@@tbhsandra how is it a tip if Olaplex isnt curly girl method friendly
It's been almost a year for me and has taken SO LONG to find my products - so I feel you!!
This is a great video doll!! Thank you so much for showing my transformation picture 💕💕‼️🙀
Thank You.
I’m a week into the cg method and my hair is turning into 3a curls
YEAYYYY! That is so fun!
Which products do you use?
What was your hair type before
I'm currently a week in like you were when you commented and I've got 3b curls :)
This is so helpful! I have been following the cgm for 10 days so still have lots of stringy / frizzy hair days. This is so encouraging!
I kind of unknowingly started “CG” after my baby was born & I was too lazy to heat style 😂 I wish I had before photos of my hair but I wasn’t good at documenting.
bbbabybear27 me too! Lol
I’m sad I couldn’t make CG work for me but I guess it just be like that sometimes
same
Yoh dont have to style it! Just start off with the shampoos and conditioners. You can build yourself up to trying styling or keep without it.
My hair looks fine on day 1, but I can’t keep the curls going after that!😭
Try a rice wash! I heard protien helps
same
Try sleeping with a buff
Same mine is kinda curly on day one and then it just goes straight
Putting your hair up on top of your head (pineappling) when you go to bed helps a lot.
As someone who just started the CGM (like, literally last week) this was super encouraging! My current hair (which has been box-dyed bright red for two years and is thus very dry and damaged) does basically what yours did in those first few pictures. Now I know there’s hope!
Yep! It takes time!
Thanks for showing the CG method. Your positivity is great. 2 months in. It takes time.
Honestly this gives me so much hope 😭😭 my hair looks EXACTLY like yours did in the beginning. I’m on month 2 of my curly hair journey. It’ll get there it’s just gonna take time. It gets better every week! Love your videos! ❤️
How is it now?
You do to have curls! I can't believe someone would say that.
Yes, technically Courtney's hair is wavy, not curly.
@@Katatawnic lmao wavy is a type of the curl family whether they like it or not
Thank you for this video. So great to see the transformation. A good reminder to listen to your hair and be patient!
I chopped my hair recently and I know I'm only a few months in, but dang! I want nice hair.
I totally feel you! I will say chopping my hair made everything more manageable, which was nice. Less hair to work with.
I love this video so much! Your results are realistic and honest and this is something I really needed to hear today. Thanks for being so awesome!
Thank you! I started this process a year ago and it has taken forever to find the right products for by 2b waves. Too heavy, not enough hold, etc. BUT it's healthy!! It's so healthy now.
Haha Courtney to save the day. I was just thinking about this this morning
I felt more inspired by this video than I thought I would when I clicked on it. Thanks for the reminder of the value of persistence and patience. 😊
Oh yeay! I'm so glad if it was encouraging!
really needed to find this video - I just restarted the CGM after giving up because I wasnt seeing any progress.
She makes me happy. She seems like someone that only wants the best for you.
The way that your hair looks now is awesome, it is sooo beautiful and looks so healthy!
The color you have on your hair in this video is so beautiful and flattering on you. I love it
CGM for 1 year 3 months.
Xo!
Thanks for sharing. It is so hard and frustrating getting started.
I started like 4 days ago and I feel so overwhelmed that I don’t even know what to do every day of the week. Can someone share like a routine for everyday of the week? Like when to apply products when to cowash and when to really wash. 😩
Same ive watched so many vids and im still confused 😭
if you are in the 2a-2c spectrum, I follow the cowash-cowash-lowpoo method (that order, not necessarily three times per week) and once a month you do a clarifying wash :)
@@ΜαρίαΓαλετάκη I have 1c-2a hair and I feel like cowashing is much too heavy for wavy hair such as mine
It depends on your hair type. Cowashing can be too heavy for some.
It took chopping 8 inches off of mine to get my curls back its been a year and I'm finally super happy in my curly girl journey I dont want to stop!
WOOHOO!!
A lot of the pictures where you think your hair looked stringy I thought looked the best!! You have beautiful hair !
Thank you for this! I love your videos. I’m 2 months in and feeling pretty discouraged so this was really timely and helpful!
Yeayyy! I'm so glad this was encouraging!! You've got this!
My hair hasn't got alot of damage as I've never dyed or bleached it and my mum never allowed me to use heat tools, I already have curly have 2b curls so I just want to reduce my frizz. Hope this works.
I adored the transition pictures at the end. It was so sweet the way you included music. I hope you do many more of these!
Sweet that she included music? Lmao
Thanks for being brave enough to share your journey!
what products did you use or what we’re you doing with your hair?
I have felt ready to quit. Thank you boo. It's been 5 months and wash days feel like Russian roulette. Everyone raved to me to try jessicurl, so today I had an all jessicurl product wash day, all jessicurl styling products and its probably my worst hair day of all time. Hubby said I was having a "frizzy hair day" in front of everyone 😫 I seriously hope it gets better soon.
I have only been doing the CGM for 2 weeks and I am already getting tired of doing it but I dont want to waste my effort.
Super helpful! 1 month in and had more frustrating days then happy ones. Yes, it's about healthy hair. Thank you.
This is so helpful. I'm only 3 months in and it's been a wild rollercoaster.
Oh and my goodness, you have curls!! And your hair is well beyond "barely wavy." Don't listen to the detractors. ;)
What products do you recommend for fine 2a , 2b hair?
Thank you so much for giving this 1 month girl hope
Thank you.
I'm day two of the curly girl method. My hair is kinky, stringy, and frizzy and I love it hahaha. Just so excited to have some form of curls! :P
I just hit the 4-month mark and I've had such ups and downs; week 5 I turned a corner but it's been back and forth since then (especially each time the weather changes). So I loved seeing your journey in more detail and especially relate to where you were at months 4-5.
