Regarding "Sweet Leaf", there's a funny clip of an interview from the 70s where the band gets asked what they do for fun, and Ozzy automatically answers "Smoke marijuana". The interviewer does kind of a double take and asks "You're joking, right?", and Ozzy just goes "Oh yeah, just joking!" and the whole band erupts to laughter. The coughing at the start of the song is Tony Iommi coughing after taking a deep inhale. The band was on ALL the drugs in the 70s. When they lived in Los Angeles in -72, they had a designated Coke Table in their house.

Stryper did a cover of the song "After Forever"! This was an awesome reaction to this album! And your bass looks cool and you should make a video of you playing it!
Okay I see that this video was posted over three months ago but I am really enjoying watching Kira react to Black Sabbath!!! I was 14 years old in 1971 and my first Listen to Black Sabbath was the song Paranoid!! It was on a jukebox and used to play it while we played pinball in a little candy store close to where I grew up!! Hearing that got me to buy the paranoid album which I loved totally!! I have Been a lifetime fan of Sabbath!! Enjoy your journey down the Black Sabbath rabbit hole!!
Excellent reaction to an amazing album! The drums really do have an odd sound to them but I can never get enough of that bright bass and super overdriven guitar, it's almost crackling on some of those riffs. This was my gateway to Sabbath, only ever knew the hits from Paranoid until one time I went to a friend's place for some sweet leaf. She had a Master of Reality record, which I put on, and I was completely hooked after that first riff blasts out
Some other great left-handed guitarists include Kurt Cobain, Paul McCartney, Dick Dale and Courtney Barnett. Being a lefty myself, I think its really cool that so many great musicians are left-handed (Even though i play guitar right handed😅)
@@FramesGone how could you not mention Tony Iommi on a video about Black Sabbath?? unless it was too obvious 😄 also don't feel bad about playing right handed, there are lots of left handed guitarists who play right handed too like Gary Moore, Mark Knopfler, Steve Morse or Joe Perry (to name a few) we just have to adapt constantly in this right handed world haha

Nice bass! Speaking of Interpol, I taught myself how to play bass by trying to play along to their first album. Not surprisingly, Carlos D's bass lines are super fun to play. And I love this Black Sabbath album as well! So glad you're a fan :)
Actually a lot of the best bass players play with a pick. It's nothing unusual at all. Also I'd love to see you react to Heaven and Hell by Black Sabbath. Since you already did Rainbow/Dio and Black Sabbath, it's the next logical step
Oy Kira! Interesting thing I learned about Black Sabbath... what is really unique about their "simple sound" style is guitarist Tony Iommi often follows off the bass riff. So in essence bassist Geezer Butler is actually the lead! Isn't that amazing?! No we know why Sabbath sounds so simple yet totally kickarse awesome! Cheers!
Your research is quite accurate concerning them against the the label that they were on at the times and all of that very informative I really enjoyed your reaction! As the the band went on they would go on to produce more and more songs directed against their manager or their label that they were on
OMG a Bass!!! I'm a bass player myself, it's so cool to see you have one too! Way to go Kira! \m/ I'm pretty much self taught, and my first bass "lessons" were trying to play along with Ramones records. It's a great starting line If you're looking for one, easy to learn and you really get a lot about song structures and stuff. Some UFO songs like "Cherry" are nice to play along too, not too complicated and makes you feel like a pro! You'll get to Iron Maiden style triplets eventually :D
that is my reaction when i see a bass too!! yea it would have be pretty easy to self-teach bass if i can do it haha. learning the entirety of turn on the bright lights by Interpol has been my lessons. I'm like half way maybe through the album? i reacted to my first Ramones song in an upcoming video actually haha hopefully youtube doesn't block it and allows it to publish!
Yes ! Love how you imitating riffs with those "rap hands" ahah, and of course She Lost Control Again at the end. If you want to go more into the stoner, sludge, doom I recommend listening to NOLA by Down, certainly a great entry point. And then bands like Sleep, Kyuss, Melvins, Eyehategod, Crowbar, Fu-Manchu, Corrosion of Conformity, Pentagram, Acid King, Acid Bath, Elder, Red Fang, High On Fire, Earthless, Electric Wizard, Neurosis, Mastodon, Baroness, Bison BC, YOB, Conan, Dopethrone, Weedeater, Buzzov.en, and damn there is too much great bands
Black Sabbath - especially the classics with Ozzy - are great because everyone shines in their parts. As a bassist myself, Geezer is one of my inspirations. Future must-react-to albums should be "Vol. 4", "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath", and maybe "Sabotage" (in that order). From there, if you want to react to a Dio-led Sabbath album, probably "Heaven and Hell". I really appreciate the genuine-ness of your reactions!
Fantastic album! BSs later albums are more towards standard HM (I like them up to 1975 - not so much after that) This album still had elements of blues, folk, Psych and jazz in the music….The God-Devil Themes are also very common in the old blues…

They changed the tuning starting with this album. They started tuning down to relieve the pressure on Tony's fingers, thus the heavier darker sound. Great reaction Kira looking forward to part 2, for me my favourite Sabbath albums are Paranoid and Sabbath bloody Sabbath, and you should check out Iron Maidens early days the group was founded by bass player Steve Harris and their first 2 albums has a very strong punk vibe about them which I think you would like a lot.
Everyone talks about the first album as being the groundbreaking one. But I think this one opens so many doors - Stoner metal, Doom, Grunge. It al starts here. And the dropped tunings (C Sharp, I think?) means the bottom end on this is so ridiculously heavy. Also, the riffs. Into the Void has about 5 different riffs in it. Ronnie Dio was once quoted as saying something like "If you write 3-4 great riffs in your lifetime, you're lucky, and you'll be remembered. Tony Iommi writes 3-4 great riffs in an afternoon."
The constant tom beat you hear throughout the studio version of Children Of The Grave is never repeated in a live performance as far as I'm aware. It was just layered over the track for effect. Impossible to do while playing the regular beat without 4 hands or another drummer.
I think it's timbales, like Edgar Winter plays in Frankenstein. I used to jam with a guy who could approximate that sound live. He was a great drummer.
Sweet Leaf is about Mirajanna, and Tony Iommi tuned down his guitar on the first 3 Black Sabbath albums due to his accident in the sheet metal factory he worked at
I really like song "It's alright" now. It's from their album Technical Ecstacy (very underrated album). It's a great song sang by Sabbath's drummer Bill Ward.
This is the my favorite Sabbath album and it’s one of the most important heavy metal albums for all time. The second part of album is more killer than first.

Iommi actually tuned his guitar down because he accidentally cut off his fingertips. It made it easier to play. It just also happened to sound awesome.
An industrial accident created a whole genre of music. Losing the fingertips of the middle two fingers of his fretting hand just at the point of going pro meant he had to adapt his whole playing style.
That's a very interesting little fun fact that you talked about with the first album and the upside-down cross on the inside of the cover!! I'm one of those crazy creatures from the sixties and seventies that actually listened to everything on cassette tape!!! I did not have vinyl albums!! So a lot of time a lot of the artwork that was done for album covers especially the inside covers was lost on cassette tape covers!! Consequently I never realized there was an upside-down cross on the first album!! The story about it being done by the record company or management sounds like it could be feasible!! I know that Black Sabbath had a reputation as being Satanist or devil worshiping type of music only because of their look I believe and that's why they made a point to write songs like After Forever!! You could take after forever and give it to any Christian rock band and it would go over like crazy!! Personally I never thought of Black Sabbath as any type of Satan or devil worshiping type of music!!! I just loved it because it was hard driving heavy metal to me and I love that kind of music!!
I don't know if anyone cares at this point, but... The drums sound 'unique' on Children Of The Grave(the rolling triplet tom fills) because they were the newly invented Roto-Tom's: Shell-less drums made by Remo, the drumhead manufacturer. Tuned down low here, to give that attacky-smacky sound. Roto-Tom's are used in the opening of Time by Pink Floyd, tuned up high and to specific notes.
@@kirawasareactor The record label, again. They cut the intros and gave them random titles as if they were independent songs. Otherwise it would be a record with only 6 songs. On Vol. 4 Iommi did some similar things like the songs Fluff, FX or Laguna Sunrise but they were his own ideas and titles. This album is like a bridge from early Sabbath to Vol. 4 and the following 2 albums. And it is magnificent, of course :-)
In my opinion Bill Ward is one of the most underrated drummers, and with Geezer's thundering basslines you have one of rocks best rhythm sections. Tony Iommi tuned his guitar down because an industrial accident chopped the ends off the middle two fingers of his right hand. He found it easier to play that way, and the Black Sabbath sound was born. The song you played at the end was by Joy Division, I can't remember the name though (it maybe She's Lost Control, I haven't listened to their music for years).
he didn't tune down cause he hurt his fingers, he just tuned down cause he wanted to. he used e standard on their first 2 albums and select songs from later (sweet leaf, symptom on the universe, megalomania)

Did a cover of After Forever live before. The phrasing gets tricky but i loved singing it. Great song.
I love You! ❤️
The first 100% heavy metal album IMHO and my fav album of Sabbath too
Greetings from Mexico 💕 :)
Black Sabbath, Children of the Riffs!
This album changed my life.
50 years ago, hello.
Sabbath bloody Sabbath for the win 🤘
This music is even better on the sweet leaf . 😎🤘🏻🤘🏻
was that "shes lost control" by joy division I heard at the end haha
Oh and born again! Right after the first two albums
Embryo functions just as in intro to Children of the Grave
ah got it! thanks. I love it on it's own anyways haha
For next Black Sabbath I would go "Sabotage" \m/
Anther British rock band that kind of paralleled Black Sabbath is Budgie. Their peak years were from 1970 to 1984.
My favourite Sabbath album
Their first 5 albums are my favorite album, 1/2 of 6.
