I've always said that Black Sabbath were like Old Testament prophets screaming about the end of the world. The thing is, they were a band for the people, and a lot of their music has something for everyone. If you don't like the message in After Forever? Check out God is Dead. If you're not a fan of drugs, like in Sweet Leaf, check out Hand of Doom which speaks about the dangers of drugs. You don't like the occult bent of songs like Black Sabbath? Maybe you'd dig the Sci-fi elements of Into the Void or Iron Man. You don't like little relatively filler songs like Tomorrow's Dream or Am I Going Insane? Dig on War Pigs, or Spiral Architect. You like fast, check out Symptom of the Universe. You like slow, check out the same song and wait about four minutes! You don't like Ozzy? Check out Dio. You don't like Dio, check out Tony Martin. You don't like Sabbath? You just haven't listened to enough.

I can't imagine popping this album on the turntable in 1971. I honestly don't think I could have handled it. lol. I didn't listen to this until probably 1986 when I was still in school, and I was still blown away.
@Robert Vaughn NIB does not stand for Nativity in black. Bill Ward's beard reminded the rest of a pen NIB. The song is about the Devil falling in love with a mortal woman and changing back to good.
@Robert Vaughn this song, Satan falls in love with a human woman and tries to seduce her. He turns out to be very charming and the early lyrics are quite poetic. >> The title refers to drummer Bill Ward's beard. The band called him "Nibby" because they thought it looked like the nib on the end of a pen (Ozzy came up with the nickname when he on acid and thought Geezer Butler was turning into a fountain pen). Says Butler: Originally it was Nib, which was Bill's beard. When I wrote N.I.B., I couldn't think of a title for the song, so I just called it Nib, after Bill's beard. To make it more intriguing I put punctuation marks in there to make it N.I.B. By the time it got to America, they translated it to Nativity In Black.>>
@Robert Vaughn How exactly is a song about the devil falling in love, glorifying satan ? They meant that the devil seduced her, aka under his power, aka under his spell, you're just desperately fishing for something wich is not there.
Bill Ward the drummer who's life ended up all screwed up stated " This is the outcome of writing songs about devils and demons for 20 years " In the beginning they were promoting Satanism even as they all have said.
Geezer Butler has said about the lyrics: ”A lot of it was because of the situation in Northern Ireland at the time. There were a lot of religious troubles between the Protestants against the Catholics. I was brought up strictly Catholic and I guess I was naive in thinking that religion shouldn’t be fought over. I always felt that God and Jesus wanted us to love each other. It was just a bad time in Northern Ireland, setting bombs off in England and such. We all believed in Jesus - and yet people were killing each other over it. To me it was just ridiculous. I thought that if God could see us killing each other in his name, he’d be disgusted.”
The first metal band was christian and spread the word in their music, yet all the bands who were inspired by them later wrote about satanic crap. Ironic and quite disappointing.
Geezer Butler may be the most underrated lyricists of all time. It still blows my mind that four people can come together from such a small place and create such great music, led Zeppelin and the Beatles included.
Black Sabbath has a special place in my heart, it was my dads favorite band, he passed a few years ago due to a unbeknownst cancer, but every time i hear sabbath it brings me back to my childhood of him blaring it in the living room on the weekends, in turn it led me onto metal and my love for it
Anybody that calls Black Sabbath satanic just hasn't listened to the songs. Even the songs from the point of view of Satan are about love and deceit. Humans being weak and susceptible to evil trickery. Ozzy routinely sounds terrified of the Devil when he sings about it. Which is a very Christian perspective.
As a Christian and lover of Sabbath and all things heavy and rockin', this song attests to the fact that the band wasn't afraid to touch any subject. Gezzer, who writes most of the lyrics, is the bass player and a professed Catholic and lyricist of this song.
Black Sabbath had a lot of critics saying that hey were into the occult and devil worship. One of the reasons they wrote this song was to put their critics to bed. They were much misunderstood in their time.
@Sebastian wasn't a buzzsaw. I was basically a guillotine. Tony was on the machine press, wasn't very familiar with it. Brought the blade down to cut the sheet metal. Not paying attention brought it down on his fingers and instinctively pulled back. Pulling the tips of his middle and ring fingers off!

You're the last thing I check when I lay down, and sure enough, there's a new one that I wind up watching right then.Lol.Iommi is amazing as are Butler's lyrics. Something off "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" like, "A Spiral Architect" or the incredible lyrics on "A National Acrobat." Happy New Year, guys!
Happy New Year! All the best to you and the family for 2019. This one was written by Geezer Butler the bass player, a Catholic. I loved your reactions to the lyrics during the song.

when you say "raised Catholic" you mean "nominally Catholic, at best," right? Bill was the most superstitious and Geezer probably the most religious but even he had quit going to mass in his teens. Regardless, being raised in the western world it's pretty much a given that you'll have been associated with a christian religion as a child being "raised in a religion" means nothing unless you choose to continue letting religious beliefs continue to influence your decisions later in life.
I love Sabbath and this song. For another mind-blowingly good song related to the Lord, you should check out Steve Vai - For the Love of God (which is an instrumental, FYI). Thanks and happy new year!

This is the second time I’ve watched this video. It shocks me that Vin would say the lyrics were to simplistic for him. As a Christian he should know that salvation thru Jesus Christ was designed to be simple so that everyone could be saved.
In 1971 there was still prayer in public schools. I was in 3rd grade then. If you listen to and read the lyrics, You will see there is a underlying meaning to most of Black Sabbath's music. they were not the quote un quote "Devil Worshippers"
Finally!!! Love you guys. I actually used the lyrics during a bible study with our youth group. Matched up with biblical texts then played the song. We had 20 very sheltered church kids banging heads and educated at the same time.
THANK YOU!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!! For reacting to this song. You guys are so awesome! Your channel always delivers such great songs and commentary. Loved your reations. Keep it coming and God Bless
Speaking as a US Citizen and an atheist theology has a place in public education as a study on how all religions effect human society. The problem has always been with certain Christian sects thinking the Bible should be the basis for not just education but for all aspects of living in the U.S. Your personal mythology or thoughts on supernatural belief should be just that. Matthew 6:6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
1989.. Cozy Powell went to become drummer and producer for Black Sabbath.. again.. he went to Toni's house and just said: "I have some ideas..".. Toni went to a cupboard, took out like 5 big shoppingbags full of cassesstes.. all having like 30 riffs onthem..unused.. Cozy said: "Well Toon..you should open a shop: : Toni Riffs"
Sabbath wrote songs about the things they saw and felt most of the lyrics were written by Terry geezer butler and the topics were what they saw and dealt with growing up during that time period coming from a factory town and most of them poor they created the sound of sabbath themselves and you would be surprised to find Tony iommi cites his influences as the shadows and jango Reinhardt . They were a blues and jazz based band who discovered their sound by creating it using pioneering techniques and a diy attitude . Especially after Tony’s accident he had to completely change the way he played guitar and that helped shaped the sabbath sound .
Happy New year y'all! Another great song/vid. I would like to get your take on the Black Sabbath song A National Acrobat if you decide to do another Black Sabbath reaction. I have my thoughts but would love to hear what you think. 😊
No VIN, he was of our time(us old rockers). You just turned up late at the station and missed the train.Your on the same track just a later service.Peace and a Happy new year to you both.
Nice to see you guys doing some back catalogue Sabbath, pretty good song. Also Ozzy has been attributed by Geezer that he gives input into the lyrics Geezer writes for him so he’s more secondary to the lyrical process. Would LOVE to see your guys’ reactions to Sabbath Bloody Sabbath which is arguably one of Ozzy’s best vocal performances.
HAPPY NEW YEAR FELLAS, KEEP DOING YOUR JOB, VERY WE'LL COUSE THERE'S NO BODY LIKE YOU ANY WAY. JUST THAT , MAYBE I'M SO CRAZY RIGHT NOW , I DON'T KNOW, PURA VIDA. we
Toni Iommi is the foundation upon which heavy metal was built. A lot of great music was released in 71' including the Iconic Led Zeppelin IV-but nothing comes close to matching the heaviness of Iommi's tone, Children Of The Grave is a testament to this, not to mention that this album begat Sludge, Stoner and Doom genre's all in one album.
Tony Naomi is missing the tips of his string fingers on his hand from a sheet metal accident when he was a kid. He wears metal thimbles which you could hear, scraping up and down the strings occasionally in different size.
That's exactly true. When you spawn a genre you can't help but be a genius. Tony Iommi is a force of nature with the power of his SG and Geezer Butler was the perfect foundation for Tony to stand on. I believe it took the two oif them to creat that power that changed music. The planets were in alignment, God was looking at the earth for a group of men to show his power to the Earth's youth and he found them.
In the early 90's Toni iommi wanted to record another Black Sabbath album, he asked drummer Cozy Powel to join. He went to Toni's house to record some drumtracks and he asked : ".. do you have some riffs?" Toni went to a closet, took four big shoppingbags out filled with cassette tapes, each tape had about 30 riffs recorded on it...
Growing up, I had listened to this song probably thousands of times. Loved it. Then, that one time... that line "Could it be you're afraid of what your friends might say if they knew you believed in God above"..... it hit me between the eyes like a ton of bricks... Great reaction. Would love to see you react to Black Sabbath - Spiral Architect. A very underrated Sabbath song, but lyrically, one of their most diverse.
Happy New year! This is another epic tune from Black Sabbath.
i love watching you guys react all the time i know you dont like to do request in your comment section but and its a big but you havent heard nothing in metal until you hear the blusy insane song off there first album black sabbath the song is warning it will leave you speechless it was a warning to every band out there this is special i swear i hope you listen, marty s
A Christian thrash band called Deliverance covered this song as well.
Deliverance is my favorite band. They are how I know about this song.
You didn’t see that one coming did you?
Happy New Year V&S!
One of my favorite Sabbath songs...Black Sabbath forever🖤
Glad you guys reacted to this one :) Knew you would get something from the lyrics !
He is called the riff master, the icon, he is the godfather of heavy metal
Best Sabbath song and I have been a fan since 1970
Love this reaction! I can see you were surprised by the lyrics.
My most favorite reaction video from y'all. While I'm a Theravada Buddhist, I do so appreciate the teachings of Christ and His message.
Tony Iommi IS A GENIUS!!! Well said Vin and so true. I'm so glad that you totally appreciate my favorite musician of all time.
Y'all should definitely do Black Sabbath Megalomania from the Sabatoge album!
Never tired to listened to this forever even After Forever
Black Sabbath , "Wheels of Confusion "
Great comment on Iommi
Happy New year y'all! Another great song/vid. I would like to get your take on the Black Sabbath song A National Acrobat if you decide to do another Black Sabbath reaction. I have my thoughts but would love to hear what you think. 😊
Anathema - Internal Landscapes
I'd choose Suicide Veil
YES,! Internal Landscapes
GREAT BAND!
Falling Off The Edge Of The World - Black Sabbath
No VIN, he was of our time(us old rockers). You just turned up late at the station and missed the train.Your on the same track just a later service.Peace and a Happy new year to you both.
Happy new years
Hate to say it Vin and Sori you two grew up in the wrong century. Going to a Black Sabbath concert back in the mid 1970's nothing compares.
Happy New Year you two! Great song by the evil riff lord! Hail Toni Iomi!!! By the way, CHECK YOUR DAMN POST!!! :P
That’s a great message in a song... you could play this in church
Son of Sam wrote the lyrics of this song on his wall. The police found this album on his record player during their investigation.
Always love to hear the Iommi love. he is a genius
HAPPY NEW YEAR FELLAS, KEEP DOING YOUR JOB, VERY WE'LL COUSE THERE'S NO BODY LIKE YOU ANY WAY. JUST THAT , MAYBE I'M SO CRAZY RIGHT NOW , I DON'T KNOW, PURA VIDA. we
You're right Vin Tony Iommi is a genius... Ive loved him since high school...
Happy New year's Vin and sori hope to see more of your videos this new year :)
What, no comic bickering? Our loss waah
Happy New Years to you and your family🎆🎉
Tony Naomi is missing the tips of his string fingers on his hand from a sheet metal accident when he was a kid. He wears metal thimbles which you could hear, scraping up and down the strings occasionally in different size.
Rob Zombie said that every metal song after Black Sabbath is just their songs played faster, slower, and/or backwards.
Can't give enough credit to Tony, if you like metal. 👍
