- Ordered Austin Racing exhaust system for my 2020 z900, but won’t be here for another 3-4 months, so for the time being doing the cat delete using ebay mid link pipe. Enjoy 😉

I did the same thing a couple days ago and I was impressed with the result. Tight fit, sounds amazing and saved me couple hundreds dollars. Only took 1 hour for the complete install
I’m enjoying the sound!!! I was not expecting to be that good with leovince slipon. Can’t wait for my Austin racing cat back to arrive!!
Andy, do you have to cut the cat off?
@@jacmeg1845 actually I cut right after the cat, O2 sensor still on the same place. Only thing you will be getting rid off is the big box , resonator I think is called.

@@SoloMCRider i just went out and changed the original to a slip-on from pro-race. got the GP-S1 Slash model.
damn does it look good and it does change the sound remarkeble from original. I want to thank you for the great videos on changing to leo vince. And helping me get the curage to actully change it myself :D
now i need some type of shield to hide the bread box. but dont know if there is any cous the slip-on is not that big, anyways keep up the good work !

Hello, can you give me some advice? I have the 2017 model with the stock headers and a carbon akrapovic for the model only and was wondering if it would sound better with that mid pipe and if there are any negative effects?

Yes, you have to cut the oem headers lol! Rest are advantages, save tons of cash, has oem look etc!

Question.. But the cat isn't in the bread box. It's in the big last bit of the header pipe no? Tks for the video... I love my z900. I've always loved the Kawa in line 4 .I've had GS, KTM 1290 enduro bikes and all sorts. But this bike is special...
You are right, cat is not the bread box , catalyst still inside the exhaust, when I have my Austin Racing exhaust if it’s not loud enough I will make few holes through the catalyst for more air flow! But removing the bread box sounds so much better!!
AR officially suggests to keep the high flow cat inside the headers as it is. No need to touch it and do less pollution :).
is it necessary to take the headers off for this or can i just cut and leave the headers where they are?
I would recommend unless you have a cutter without damaging something!
Did you renmove the honeycomb on the pipe? Once you cut it i saw in another video tey drilled out the honeycomb on it.

I already sent it to bring it from Aliexpress, did you remove the catalyst from the internal part, from what remains of the original exosto? and you don't get any message on the screen for removing the catalytic converter?
Yes I did remove the catalyst and I don’t get any warning messages! Go ahead get it done you will enjoy 😉
My z 900 new 1st gear stalls a lot not popping clutch too much engine racing.Did it happen to you?
No not really, you should check you clutch adjustment on your clutch levers. I have a video how to adjust clutch, check that out . Thank you

No headers nuts comes out very easily, no need to heat up! Good luck 👍
going to do mine tomorrow. I've drenched the header downpipe nuts with penetrating oil so hopefully they don't snap on me. 😮
Can you include a link of the part number and where you bought it? Do you need to remap you ECM to use the muffler delete?

I have ECU flashed for full system so with the cat delete bike is alive!! Huge change on power band and very smooth power delivery!

if you remove ONLY the breadbox you can keep stock evrything

this system actually keeps the cat. The cat is right before where you cut. this is only a bread box delete which is what i was wanting
Yes I cut the bread box and drilled the cat out too, some people just like to remove the bread box.

does ecu requires for doing anything if remove the cat? Or just take off cat and leave ecu alone?
Just take off the cat back (bread box) and leave ECU alone! Bike will sound awesome 🤩

Aftermarket exhaust modifications not legal but some states don’t really care. We only ride bike1-2 times a week lol 😂

it just bothers me. why do all the tig welds in the exhaust of most motorcycles are left with the dark burn marks. i mean, it wouldn't hurt to clean those joints with pickling gel and sanding sponge right? am i missing something here? Im a stainless equipment fabricator, and i will never let my guys give me dirty unfinished welds like this. is the header stainless steel?
No the headers not stainless steel.
Can i do it with Versys 1000 same way?

US version of Z900 are not limited to (70kw) we only get 1 version 92kw unrestricted!

Bro, I'm about to do the same install but I'm hesitating, not sure whether it will be too loud. I have a packtalk bold headset in my modular helmet. Will the exhaust drown out the headset audio?
If you are just removing bread box it won’t be too loud but if you are drilling the cat out too it’s going to straight pipe like full exhaust headers, which I did with a akrapovic carbon slipon and it wasn’t extremely loud! It was perfect 👍 I’m not sure what slipon you are going to use? If you are installing one with db killer then you have option to put the db killer back in if it’s too loud for your taste !
@@SoloMCRider I'm using the Leovince lv-10 Slip on, just like in your video. Not sure whether to tell the installer to drill through the cat or not. I just don't want a situation where I can't hear my audio well from my speakers in my helmet
@@moyanak LV10 was loud without bread box and cat, if you don’t drill the cat you should be fine, again noise Tolerance is subjective lol and hearing the sound on the video and real life it’s a tough call lol
That is why I experimented with all of that and ended with de cat with akrapovic carbon which sounded best for me!!

I got the cat back link pipe from eBay based of off my Z900 make year, to be honest I didn’t measure the diameter. The mid pipe was plug and play! Sorry I couldn’t answer your question.

Yes I did have leovince full headers but it was too loud for me so I sold the headers and decided to do a cat back ! Sounds just right!

Yes! It will fit any slipon that’s goes to oem headers, make sure to get the correct link pipe from eBay or elsewhere for your bike year.

I doubt it but I could be wrong 😑 I do have plan to take out the cat when I have a slipon with DB killer!
@@SoloMCRider You might wanna double check that, I just send my ecu out to 2wdw and they said if I keep my cat on the bike the tune in slightly different for the health of the cat

At 2:20 ive Problem to delete this screw on the 2020 version. How tf can i loosen this one?
It was very easy for me , came out without any fight . I have seen other ppl having issues and stripping the bolt . Good luck 👍

Thank you! Yes of course, gas mileage will not be the same anymore, anytime we mess with air fuel ratio fuel economy will suffer. And if you get ECU flash it will be worst:)
@@SoloMCRider have you noticed since this mod how much change is your fuel? i normally get range between 350km(220mi).
i presently have after market Yosh Alpha T. sound is a little deeper, but would have liked it to be a little more louder. as many here, don't want the bike to sound too annoyingly loud!
@@hamidazeez6198 wow 220 miles of range lol I’m no where close to that even before the tune , most I had about 145-150 miles per tank and now maybe 130-140 or less. But I rev the heck out of the bike , always on lower gears to hear the bike ;)
Why did not u just bought a long slip on with db killer like akrapovic or sc project sc1 - r or lv pro series instead of cutting breadbox and selling full system... Did not get it... Lv10 style exhaust r too loud with full system that i understood....
I thought about it but the system I kind of like they are too expensive but now with the cat back leovince LV 10 sounds amazing!! I will probably just keep it as it is!

Would this cause the check engine light to go on?
I had my bike flashed before I did the cat delete so I didn’t get a check engine light so can’t tell for sure if it’s going to give a check engine light or not.

It’s normal when a new pipe is installed.. has to burn off any left over oils and residues. Breadbox also helps filter all that crap out.. this only had the cat so expect some exhaust fumes.

If you check my old videos , when I installed the Leovince slipon I had stock exhaust sound
I would have drilled out the cat for improved exhaust flow. It isn't in the breadbox.

The bread box is not the CAT, it is just anotehr muffler. Removing the breadbox does nothing for performance. The CAT is after the headers and right before the breadbox.
@@ken78shin no, I don't understand why people do this. It does nothing for performance, but if you start removing some of the back pressure the entire system is designed to create you will start losing horsepower. You will need to get a tune if you remove the CAT.

@@jasonhalliburton2448did someone tell you this regarding " back pressure" if they did ,did you do your own research? I suggest and it's only a suggestion that you might want to look up 4 stroke engines and back pressure, just a suggestion
@@marcjohnson7734 You should research how removing the entired exhaust system and placing a straight pipe on the Z900 effects performance and back pressure. You will run more lean, gasses will get trapped in the exhaust and cause issues, everything in the Z900 was designed for a reason. I know the difference between a 4 stroke and 2 stroke and rebuilt them both, I understand how much more important back pressure is to a 2 stroke along with the shape of the exhaust. You can replace both of the mufflers without any negative side effects on this bike but if you do that along with cutting the cat out you will have to get a whole new tune or you will lose a little performance until you do.
