You see, the Pokémon franchise has its way of catering to its fans, and for the older fans, it includes putting Gen 1 bias everywhere. I believe the Unova region was trying to make a slight twist, instead of leaning on gen 1 like many other regions, trying to actually “be” gen 1 and stand on its own, by being fully isolated from the other regions in a way. I could go on and on about everything from male protagonist designs to Pikachu clones, but in the end, I simply think Unova was unpopular because it tried to break away from the “gen 1 bias.”

As a gal who started playing gen 1, I loved it! Just didn't care for the pixelated movement :'D.
Soundtrack, story and characters were on point- and I'd be sad if I didn't have a beartic, stoutland, serperior or eelektross! They had a nice group of new pokemon
I'm pretty sure a lot of it had to do with the anime. Which I'm not gonna lie turned me off from the game as well. I also never had a ds though so that's part of it for me. Once I got one when I was older I played gen 4 and 5. Tbh 4 is my favorite but gen 5 is close 2nd. Personally I think 4 is my favorite because the anime was extremely solid as well.
Unova hands down has the best soundtrack.

I like how in gen 5 they actually cared and then everyone was like gen 5 sucks so gamefreak was like :( screw it and made gen 6 and didn't put any thought into it

Atomic Robo Tesla well it's like Game Freak took Gen 5 and do ALL the things they never did in the Pokemon franchise with it, but because people hated it being so different it's like Game Freak made Gen 6 Super Fan Made but don't add anything they had 1 gen ago. They made gen 6 bland. It's like they did that for revenge which is wrong when they make games for children, but yet a huge thank you message for those who likes gen 5. If people still likes gen 6 it really separates the 2 types of players in the Pokemon fan base. If it's like a player wants to see Game Freak put a lot of work, value, and thought into a gen that's likely to be a Gen 5 fan, but if it's like a player just wants to be happy then that's likely to be a Gen 6 fan.
Whenever I try to figure out why would they make Gen 5 the way it is it comes in so many reasons that it doesn't make sense. Here's 10.
1) They wanted to see how the fan base reacts.
2) They wanted to add a new possibility to the Pokemon fan base.
3) Actually challenge your loyalty to the franchise.
4) To invite not just new comers but new types of players such as story driven.
5) Catch up to other RPGs with the story.
6) They wanted to fix the issues of what they think they had with the gen 4 and gen 2 remakes.
7) Because of the 3DS people were speculating that they were going to make a 3DS game. This has make Game Freak do unusual things with gen 5.
8) Because the 3DS was revolutionary Game Freak use Gen 5 to see what kind of game they need to make.
9) 3D models might be to hard to create with and Game Freak always wanted to do something different.
10) Too many ideas unexecuted.
I can only think of 3 reason for Gen 6.
1) Cutting the amount of work in half.
2) They did say people just didn't have enough time to play Long RPGs probably due to the results of Gen 5.
3) Test the main series in 3D.
The SWITCH isn't getting Netflix. The reason is because Nintendo didn't want to replace the iPad. They didn't know we could replace the SWITCH with the iPad. Some reason are bad or actually used against us and it's bad to see them in Pokemon.

Gen V is so underrated. it competes with Gen II for my favorite gen

well right now people are coming back and loving the game. people didn't like it when it first came out because it was different and tried different things compared to the other games. people are now realizing that the game is actually;y great.

BOY how this Gen is so overlooked. Gen 5 has always had a special place in my heart. Pokemon White was my first ever Pokemon game, and to this day, I still loved it to death. In my honest opinion, Gen 5 had the best soundtrack, and story of any Pokemon game. I just want to take a second to gush over the soundtrack. Route 10 and 12 just sound so nostalgic to me. The Zekrom/Reshiram battle theme I have always loves, but the ENDING theme man. That theme gets me. Same goes for the Emotion theme. I just wish I had a friend to gush over this game with that loved Gen 5 as much as I did...
I'm your friend, here! I totally agree! Gen 5 was my first game too and by far the best in my opinion! My favorite region, story, soundtrack, and even characters!! I hate to see so many people say it was the worst. It was different from your normal 'get the badges, defeat the bad guys' storyline, The plot was way different and had so many feels!! I will always love Gen 5!!!

I'm alawys here! I've played all core-series games from gen 1 to 5, and Unova is my top generation. I love it in every aspect!
I wish everyone would mention how complete B2/W2 is. Not only does it have the most tracks,remixes and battles,but it also has the most completed feeling with the addition of the PWT. No one will ever forget the PWT,And GF can't top the PWT.

5th gen was easily my favorite generation. It had a deep storyline, it wasn't EASY but it wasn't Hard, it felt like the perfect difficulty. On top of the soundtrack really pulled you deeper into the game by perfectly capturing the emotions a person would feel while playing the games. All in all, I can't wait to see the remakes. :)

Sometimes I just want to scream about how much I love Unova, this is definitely my favorite region by a thousand miles. Even after all the time since it's release, I instantly recognize and freak out when I hear any song from this game's soundtrack. It's by far the best, if not one of, soundtrack in any Pokemon game.
DonkeyQuig405 You know that starry sounding part near the end of the Tao Trio's theme with the high note, drums, and saxophone? That beautiful moment right there sums up how you feel about Gen 5.

I’ve beaten the BW champion over 79 times now just to listen to the music because back then I didn’t have much internet.
Gen 5 was far ahead of its time now that I look back. It featured a far more complete soundtrack then the pokemon games now and was far more unique with the music as well as its story. I loved the end credits theme the first time because you get to see the alternate of the into sequence where it instead shows the legendary N took with him. The gameplay was also unique because you could unlock hardmode or easymode and you dont get that in current ones now. Everything about B&W and its sequels was unique, down to differing cities and effects of the seasons. Certainly if they made another game when they are done with SW&SH, they should really base it off of this game with how its story connected both games especially with the game link where there are special cutscenes that showed what happened in between the first and its sequel.

Well maybe they should be focusing on the positives of gen 5 like the GREAT Pokemon like Haxorus, Chandelure, Hydreigon, Leavanny, Galvantula, Darmanitan, I could gone on and on about the Pokemon. And the story was great too and especially the soundtrack!!! Easily, my all time favorite soundtrack and generation!

The end credits theme of Black/White always makes me reflect on all the years I've been playing Pokemon
The start of Team Plasma's theme was so good. Neo Team Plasma was an epic remix, but I prefer those first 7 seconds of epic eargasm of the original and the slower medieval cultists vibe.
I came here for nostalgia reasons. Black being the first Mainstream Pokemon game I've ever played, it holds a special place in my heart. Getting into Undertale about a year ago, I've understood the meaning behind music better (Bergentrukung being Asgore's regret about what he's done, but needing to finish the job.) I almost cried while watching this because of the beautiful and emotional soundtrack. But seriously, HUGE amounts of nostalgia.
(Such a pain to type on a 3DS. Seriously, don't do it.)

ricardo I think the same, i pkayed X/Y after bw and bw2, and i loved gen 5 games, so X/Y felt like a huge step down for the franchise, soundtrack, characters and plot are too bland, and theres almost no challenge.
Yeah, BW2 are the crowning achievement of a Pokemon game and Gens 6 and even 7 are so dumbed down in comparison.

Nah, Sun/Moon are two of the best games in the franchise, i played Moon expecting something in the level of X/Y, even if S/M was directed by Shigeru Ohmori, the guy who directed BW2, and i gotta say S/M are incredible, a huge evolution for Pokémon in terms of plot, characters and writing, i really love the dialogues in S/M, i got genuine laughs by playing Moon, in many ocasions, and many feels, even for minor characters and NPCs.

Exactly. It was also the last generation that was actually quite difficult before Gen 6 and 7 just because drop dead easy. I don't know anyone who wasn't stuck at some point in this gen. Music was the best, most unique, diverse and emotional. By FAR best story in the WHOLE series. Had the absolute most to do post game, both first and second games. I wish all pokemon games were this different and SOOOOO DAMN GOOD. Fuck anyone who says gen 5 was shit, it was by far the absolute best. Nintendo want to make Pokemon as popular as it was in Gen 4 and 5? Look at gen 5. Gen 4 games were the most sold games on DS and gen 5 were the games that caused the most profit
ALSO, had the best, most unique and interesting characters. Not to mention having the most number of good characters. Has quality and quantity on characters. The ONLY minor complaint I have about all of gen 5 is the dragon type bias and overpoweredness. The remakes of these games would be legitimately flawless games, due to fairy types to minimise dragon bias and upgrade in movement controls and graphics. Remakes will be the 10/10 perfect games, I can taste it
Excuse me? Gen 7 wasn't hard? Tell that to every single totem pokemon making their stats sharply Rose at the start of the battle, the game giving you almost nothing to fight them, pretty good movesets, Ally pokemon that Will not only annoy you, but turn the battle to a 2vs1, hit you very hard AND help the totem, mimikyu with disguise, togedemaru with spiky shield, Ribombee being a fairy type, ilima having ALWAYS having a super effective move against your starter and every elite 4 member but kahili
And i'm not even gonna talk about ultra necrozma and the whole team rainbow Rocket thing

I actually think that unova did the best with managing difficulty as each gym leader could be a challenge, but it’s not as hard as ultra necrozma per say, but it can be challenging depending on what you do, as it rewards players that grind and will attempt to stop you in your tracks if you don’t attempt to do as much work as you should

Let me guess. Because of him putting the best ending at the very end it made you felt like you just went through Unova all over again, but this time only the positive parts in which there are a lot of good things you've skipped because you didn't want Gen 5 to be any better than your favorite for how different it is.

Yep, It brought Infinite use of TM, Critical Catch, Pokémon moving in battles, the Dream World, being capable of visiting the region from your friends' game, the organization in the bag, 3D environments thanks to the camera's position, videochat, the incorporation of the GTS in Pokémon Centers and, of course, making the Pokémon Center and the Pokémon Shops in one building.

They think all reigons besides Kanto or maybe Johto are Terrible, but we got so many great Pokémon from the newer generations, including: Gliscor, Lucario, Rayquaza, Reshiram and Zekrom, Haxorus, Palkia, Dialga and Giratina, Magnezone, Magmortar, Electivire, Sceptile, Swampert, Blaziken, Torterra, Empoleon, Infernape, Salamence, Hydreigon, Bisharp, Gallade, Yveltal and Xerneas, Metagross, Samurott, Pangoro, Talonflame, Glaile, Gardevoir, and Mega Evolutions! Sure, Garbodor sucks, but that doesn't mean ALL of the newer generations Pokémon suck. I mean look at Bisharp or Zekrom. PURE AWESOMENESS!
I Like All The Regions
Unova definitely has the best sound track of any Pokemon game. I am also not ashamed to admit that the Unova games are my favorite out of all of them, and yes, I have been playing ever since Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow first came out. Most of my favorite Pokemon, characters, and music are from Gen 5, and I don't think it will ever not be my favorite in almost every way.
I love, how Unova plays so much with the soundtrack, examples: diffrent tracks and intros in diffrent seasons, additional instroments, *V* *I* *L* *L* *A* *G* *E* *B* *R* *I* *D* *G* *E* , and the drumrolls and Percussion on some routes, that only play when you walk, Victory right before your eyes, low healt theme, and so on....
for #6: I literally cried during this part of the game. Pokémon White were my first ever Pokémon games, and the story and characters really drew me in. (I actually had a fangirl crush on N for awhile x3) Gen 5 will forever be my favorite gen! :D
I can relate. As someone who grew up with the Pokémon Black and White anime, I also had a crush on N and the Funny thing thing is, I still do. And I’m not ashamed. Gen 5 and Unova will always be special.
Black and White to this day remain my favorite Pokemon game. Great story. Sharp attention to musical detail. And for the first time actually,a legendary I REALLY WANTED with me. It was just an amazing adventure! I would always just go to Undella town any time but summer, and just stand on the beach and reflect. Great stuff man
I think Gen 5 is much more loved now. People are realizing that the DS Pokémon games were the last ones worth playing :( I like Gen 6 for the Gen 3 remakes and I don’t care for Gen 7 at all. Sword could have been so much better, but oh well I guess.
And so are Gens 6 and 7, people are realizing that the 3DS Pokémon games were the only ones with the 3D feature which has seen some return over the past few days and will continue on for years to come.

I grew up with Gen 5 and I can hold up my love and appreciation with nostalgia alone, but to hear technical validation of the music just makes me smile. It brings tears to my eyes ;w;;,,

I am surprised at the amount of people who hate Gen 5 just because of the trash bag and the ice-cream cone, as Gen 5 will always be my favourite generation. It had an amazing story, soundtrack and was full of awesome characters and Pokémon. (Seriously, we had Colress' theme, N's theme, N's room, the Battle Tounament final-battle, Champion Iris, the Elite Four battle theme, Ghetsis' theme, the Team Plasma Grunt battls themes ,the Gym Leader rematch remixes... And the list goes on and on! And I've finally found someone who loves the Battle Tournament final battle theme! I thought that I was the only one...)
OH CRAP I FORGOT HUGH'S BATTLE THEME, THE ENDING THEME AND CHEREN/BIANCA'S BATTLE THEME. THEY'RE ALL AMAZING.

I like how Hilbert was subtly pushed as the new Red. Too bad we never got to battle him like Game Freak planned. I hate how we never got any closure to his fate. They could have at least given us a Memory Link cutscene of Hilbert/Hilda reuniting with N.
Also Gen 5 has the most returning characters in SuMo and you can find the fully evolved starters with Island Scan so it seems like Game Freak is finally giving Unova the recognition it deserves.

The music in black and white was so epic that when I was playing though the later games I thought something more important was going to happen in the story because compare to black and whites they weren't epic enough

Though I'm gonna say that I prefer the original Plasma theme to Neo Plasma. Maybe it's partially because White was my first Pokémon game and I'm a little more attached to it, but I also think that the original sounds a bit cleaner; Neo Plasma's theme has a little TOO much going on in it. I don't dislike Neo Plasma, I just prefer the original. Might just be me though.
We do not reach the peak until Gen 6 and Gen 7, after which, it’s a drop down, starting from the controversial Gen 8.

To be honest, Unova had the most intimidating, such Pokémon fitting music you can ever think of. But Sinnoh is my favorite.

Victory right before your eyes! That is by far my favorite pokemon song, it always gets me super pumped up.
I LOVE the animations of all of the pokemon, they really were a downgrade in xy. The animations really worked great with the music, especially when you battle iris WITH black kyurem, kyurem, he Pounds his fists against the ground and his tail glows with intimidation
Nice list! One really unappreciated song I like from Gen V is the Ferris Wheel Theme. Short and simple, yet so good. Another song I really like but didn't make into your list was Ghetsis' Theme. Not too many like it but for me it works better than any theme when it comes to battle themes; it really has the feel of danger in it. Other songs I really like are Lacunosa (probably my favorite), Driftveil, Mistralton, Dreamyard. Castlia City was really nice but at longer run it became quite annoying ahaha. It also took me longer than I want to admit to notice that Gym Leader's Last Pokémon theme shares the same melody with Pokémon's main theme. Overall BW/B2W2 got pretty varying OST and it's super nice. Thanks a lot for making this though, I really enjoyed it and got some ideas for future remixes perhaps! :)

I was waiting for Route 10 to be on the list for the entire video, hell even all of the route themes. they fill me with so much nostalgia and reminiscence of my journey and makes me think of my experience through the game and all the fun times I have had as a kid and now as a teen.

As bad as some gen 5 pokemon were gen 5 will always be my favorite gen, the music, the storyline, the characters, the emotions you feel when playing it. It was a one way ticket to feels town. The game was overly very well done.

Dude, it’s 2021, and there are better games like X & Y and Sun & Moon, Sword & Sheild is the controversial one, but i’ll give the go ahead anyway.
Also, there’s this thing called remakes, and it makes old games look better and new, just look at Omega Ruby & Alpha Saphire and the upcoming Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, no wonder why the Black & White remakes will be better than the originals.
Finally, there's the upcoming Pokémon Legends Arceus which will take place before the aforementioned Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, in a time where people were married to pokémon, imagine a game that takes place before Black & White, during the Unova civil war in which an intense forest fire caused by the war happened.

Its so nice to know that other people out there appreciate pokemon music as much as I do. I agree with all your choices. My favorites from unova has to be lostlorn forest, humiliau city, and the marine tube. I made those themes into ringtones on my phone. Thank you for taking the time to make these videos.

"Unwavering Emotions" is easily among my top 10 favorite Pokémon themes of all time. I love it so much I'm trying to learn to play it on the piano.
BW 1&2's music has always been so eargasmic to me. Even years after I'm still constantly checking back to the soundtrack and have even used some of them while jogging! For me the people who created these songs are MASTERMINDS! The fact that there are different versions of each song for the Seasons, Gyms, Legendaries, etc or the build up of the victory road for each gate or Elesa's gym in BW2, and of course the amazing Gen 1-4 gym/champion songs for the PWT is truly beyond epic and the amount of effort that was put into this is just so overwhelming!

Your insightful commentary and timing on when to mute your commentary to let the sick beats in is truly inspiring for a music lover like me! I literally feel like I'm experiencing BW1&2's soundtrack for the first time all over again! I'm legit impressed and I really hope you'll do one for Sun/Moon someday!
