I have seen number of vlogers based in Canada but this is something I love watching every time and the reason is both of them are simple and straightforward with no show off. The way to presents and video quality is amazing ! I am also living in GTA Toronto so can say they reveal things practically!
All these expenses are reasonable in Toronto, except for the food. $700 for groceries and $500 for food delivery is too much for 2 people. I spend about $250 for groceries for one person and no food delivery. I shop at Freshco, Nofrills and Costco. Loblaws is too expensive.
you kind of have no choice when you dont live near these tho. i wish i could go to costco but the nearest one is very far uptown. frescho and nofrills are also really far for me. Sure I can take the TTC but a 10 min walk is now a 40 min commute. they closed down the T&T downtown as well. So even tho loblaws & longos are expensive.. its close to me. it depends on where you live. I just find the downtown experience is really limited by location especially if you dont have a car. food delivery is totally optional and a luxury
If someone thinks spending 50$ per person on weekend for entertainment, fun or food after 5 hectic and exhausting days is luxury, then he needs to think about getting depressed or low as that’s the only cheapest option to handle home/family/friends sickness out of your own home country. And they don’t have car, otherwise this grocery can bought from Costco under $400 or max $500 but they will end up spending 120 to 150$ on rides for commuting.
I started watching your channel as we are also moving into a 1+ den in Toronto in May 21. We budgeted 4000$ per month so despite your love of takeout you're definitely in the zone! Will be interesting to see how much pizza is left over at the end of the month!!!
Hi Pooja & Saransh, I do really feel for you both that is a lot. I wonder if it’s worth living in Toronto with very high living costs. I think the quality of life doesn’t always mean high costs . Living somewhere cheap and affordable can also mean quality. It’s like saying a $5000 Rolex is better quality because it’s expensive but a $50 watch does the same thing for much lesser price. I think both of you seem intelligent and mature I am sure if you do your research and properly look into it and see if there’s any less cheaper option by the looks of it maybe there isn’t any at the moment. There are certain things you would need to sacrifice to reduce your monthly expenditure especially your phone bills. All the best
We are renting a one bed basement in 1800 all included, don’t have any car, don’t have any subscriptions, hardly order food from outside once a month, hardly spend 50 on transit and yet our monthly expenses are around 3700. I guess for one, we spend a lot on groceries and for second, Canada has become way more expensive since this video.
For those trying to save money, look for places in the city where transit can get you around quickly but isn't downtown. And look for neighbourhoods where you have shopping options other than Loblaws and other expensive supermarkets. For example, living near Main St. station or Victoria Park station on the Line 2 (east of downtown) or near Kipling or Dufferin station on the line 2 (west of downtown) will still get on into the downtown core relatively quickly, have much cheaper rent, and cheaper grocery stores. On the Line 1, stick to the west side of the line...stations like Eglinton West, Glencairn, Lawrence west offer cheaper areas that can get you into downtown relatively quickly as well. Remember, your monthly transit pass or each transit ticket costs the same regardless of the distance you go. So for those living downtown, they pay $3, ride a slower streetcar for 20-30min on a trip similar to those who live outside of downtown and pay $3 and ride the faster subway. But those who take the subway can live a bit further away for cheaper.
I live in downtown by myself. I don't cook so I do delivery everyday Food comes to $1k per month (Freshii, Fresh on Crawford, good healthy and nromal food). Usually I would say $4k/mo is a sweet spot. I own my own marketing consulting business so I can move some of my expenses as business expense. If anyone is looking to save up and buy a house or condo while living in downtown, I would say realistically you need to save around another $4k/mo. So $8 to $9k after taxes if you are working. P.S. - I don't have car and I rent.
Hey guys! So I have bee following your vlogs since a year now I guess and I absolutely love you guys together! And there is so need to be embarrassed about your food expenses! It hard to earn money and do everything when your just trying to settle down in your life! Enjoy ur life! people are gonna keep saying stuff and giving their unwanted advice but yeah if you can afford then spend it luxuriously! Its your life afterall!
When I realised how much the food delivery apps were costing me, I deleted them so quick and I haven't looked back since. Saving that extra money has been my version of self-care 😅

So i will be moving to brampton and i would be earning around 6200k per month after taxes. I am single bachelor moving to canada. How much expenses usually cover up for a single bachelor in shared condo.
Canada seems very costly, I live here in USA in charlotte suburb area and spending 2200 $ monthly for couple including car rent everything. And we dont spend much on ordering outside food much its just 50 $ for us.
Very good video. I have criticized you a lot for your Aruba Videos because of travelling during covid, BUT now that you are back with your Toronto Content, i appreciate your efforts again ;-)
$4000 a month for a couple is not bad, that's just $2000 each! And average salary is around $60,000 year with take home pay around $4000 per month, even minimum wage of $15/hr would be take home pay ~$2200 per month so it's totally doable I think?
They did mention that in another video - they don't save (well except to save up for the next nice trip to somewhere warm that serves drinks with little umbrella's). If it did not go on any of the above there are always new clothes, or appliances, or furniture to buy.
This is too much..here in vancouver for samesize apartment we pay 925 in rent. And for groceries plus food deliveries we pay 700 included. Moreover with car and all other expenses we spend around 2500.

He did fine. What about medical expenses...for e.g. OHIP is completely free or are there hidden costs should you need to visit the doc. should people get private health care? How is the health care system there?
OHIP is free in a sense that you pay as part of your taxes. For certain medical procedures (e.g. blood sample test for prostate), you have to pay out of your own pocket. Dental is not covered but most employees have company provided dental coverage. You have to pay in a bit to get the dental coverage. Coverage is getting worse by the year! Same for eye care.
@@Shamsithaca That is how it works in most western countries. You pay taxes and your tax is re-allocated for health, education and every other thing that governments are good at spending. Oh yes, you don`t need a car if you are staying in downtown Toronto.. We came to Toronto in June this year from US. We are staying 2 mins away from Osgood station and the subway is a savior. However, just wanted to mention, that we hire car during weekends through Turo, so we do our grocery from Costco or Wal-Mart and that's cheaper than Longos or Loblaws. The whole summer we travelled around Ontario & Quebec, so renting all weekends made sense. Now that we are going back to US soon & it's winter here, we have stopped renting the car so often. Another thing I thought I will let you know. We took our Netflix subscription from India, so it's cheaper there. Connect to India through VPN and then subscribe. The premium connection will cost you Rs. 1000.

Groceries would not cost 700 per month for a couple most of the times. Most of the couples are able to manage within 300-350 per month without any compromises. It actually depends on the stores you shop from. There are many expensive stores but then there are stores such as no frills, freshco, walmart that can help you with your budget
@@prachisidharthincanada1394 This is a good point. They have this nice really central neighborhood - fantastic for nightlife... all the great clubs and such are walking distance from here and there are loads of good places to eat out however they are far from most grocery stores and the one they are using really racks up the prices... probably because it knows that there are a ton of Condo dwellers with no place else nearby to go to. All that said $350 per person is not actually all that bad. In fact the only reason I think they can stay that low is that they are only cooking 2/3rds of their meals. They order in for the other 1/3.

@@hannahs4782 You are about to have culture shock as to how expensive the food is. I don't know where you are from but that does not matter wherever it is there will be food markets specifically aimed at providing you the produce you would find back home - which will be fantastic if it did not cost 4-5 times what it did back home... of course you will pay it because you really really miss [insert nostalgic recipe of your youth].
@@JeremyMacDonald1973 i am from Mauritius 🏝 island
@@hannahs4782 I stand corrected - they probably don't have a market dedicated to the food of your homeland.
I cook all my meals and don't eat out. It is tiresome for sure. But I do treat myself to a Venti Emporer's Blend Starbucks tea about once a week. Occasionally I eat out - $20.00 per month only.
Could you pls share more tips for cooking at home? Do you cook everyday or just on the weekend?
@@sreenapakkath9200 I eat a 4 egg omelette as a big breakfast with potatoes - I put tomatoes and onions and sukini in the oven or in a pan to sauté with olive oil or any type of oil and I then take 4 eggs and mix up in a bowl and put on a ceramic pan and cook and then add feta cheese or cheddar cheese then put in the sautéed/cooked veggies and make the omelet - then I get the small potatoes that I cooked in the instant pot and then fry a bit with butter and paprika - then I put potatoes and omelet in a plate and a half piece of toast with butter and that is a breakfast that will keep you full most of the day - then I have organic tofu in the fridge I eat just raw through out the day and I make sugar free chocolate cake - in the evening I eat organic green salad with red onions and tomatoes and dressing is olive oil, lemon juice and organic apple cider vinegar - and I pop pop corn in the popcorn machine and I put organic butter on it and turmeric powder and sea salt and organic yeast.
U don't pay rantel insurance?
Right off the bat let me just say that your video editing has gone up a notch and Pooja's energy is infectious which seems to be rubbing off on Shiransh (my apologies if I miss spelt his name).
Let us know if I cut some costs (for a bachelor) and cheapskate ...what sort of a monthly hit am I looking at on my wallet for living in Toronto.
Also the financial and non financial benefits as well as disadvantages of living in downtown Toronto.
Cheers !!
Keep Vlogging !!!
Thank you so much 😊
It’s saransh btw. 🤪
And yeah u can definitely save on rent by living in a shared accommodation..
Also groceries won’t be that high for you.
Try getting deals on phone and internet plans
And rest it’s the same pretty much..
As far as advantages and disadvantages- that’s a huge topic. Can’t really write so much but I keep sharing my experiences in my vlogs so keep watching 😊
@@Peekapoo Always awaiting for your videos !!!!
Cheers !! keep it up !!!
Good to see Saransh 💯
Thanks for providing a bird's eye view of approx expenses one needs to keep in mind for downtown. 5k it is!
Actually $3520 for a couple + entertainment and one off purchasing etc.
Quality material 👌 in informative content 👌
Nice to see you both in this video.😊👍
this is 100% true..I spend exactly the same on everything in downtown Toronto. Expect the rent since we stay in a 2 bedroom condo :)
100% takeaways and ordering is the only happiness in lockdown! Loved your video 👍👍
Haha we are all in this together 😂
Is it Canadian dollars or US dollars?
