Thanks you for the tour! I love to see how people have set up their spaces.
Thank you!!!
Your apartment is basically the size of a newer 1 bedroom condo. I really like the way you have things laid out! Don't ever leave.
Thanks, and I have no plans on it anytime soon :)
$1100 for that location and space is an excellent deal these days in Toronto, very nice
Yeah I have to pay 💰 2X !!! N I don’t have balcony !!! 😮
One bedroom apartments at this price are rare and far between. That is basically what a studio in Mississauga costs if you can find one still for rent.
Old school tenants have that advantage when rent control's at play...
As an Interior Designer, I give it a hearty thumbs up! I love the look. It’s almost minimalist, yet cozy.
Great deal for $1100 these days! I love how you maximized the spaces with the layout. Everything's just in the right place. 🙂
To be honest..i was surprised! In a nice way..that you allow us..your loyal followers to get ino your apartment something that intimate and personal…and your wardrobes and drawers..wow! .. ! Goes to say how down to earth and humble of a person you really are.and how much you appreciate and trust us..❤
Don’t move out. You won’t find anything less than $2000 these days.
thats what im doing. i have a 2 bedroom 1000sq ft unit in an older building for $1200 including utilities and 2 underground parking spots. well maintained building
@@stevestevens502 spend some of the money to fix it up. Much cheaper than moving. That's what I do. Management is rated a 2. Cleaned it myself with repair
Sadly, you’re probably right
$1,100.00/month? For an apartment and you're not sharing? The average apartment in Toronto is $2,000.00/month
read the description, hes been there since 2014 under rent control
@@yourclosets 10 years later the the rent has not gone up? I'm a born and raised Toronto resident. It's most likely Government Housing.
@@BritneyWaldron the maximum they can raise it per year is 2.5%, i've been in a apartment since 2017, my rent is $1575, same unit they're asking $1975 as a new tenant
He shares with the plants
@@yourclosets He mentioned buildings older than 2018 are rent controlled. If you somehow found a vacancy in a building pre-2018, would they be astronomically high but just cannot raise the rent as much as they want?
There is no way you can find this bachelor for $1,100 probably $1,500 or more and that would be a bargain.
Thanks for having me in your place. I loved it
Having a balcony in an apt, imho is key. Just being able to walk outside super easily whenever I want is something I've learned that I need lol
You've done an awesome job with a bachelor apartment, Johnny! I'm glad for both of us for the rent increase caps every year. It's horrifying that rent has doubled in 10 years when over 50% of the households in Ontario rent.
That's why there are so many families using the food banks.
Great tour of yur apt. Very well organized. The balcony is a plus. Often older buildings don't have balconies.
save for 0 cable management
Looks nicely decorated! Nice couch! Mind blowingly cheap! My daughter's one bedroom apartment suite is $3,000 in Toronto, near the U of T. My husband and I do pay her rent as she is in her first year of medical school - no time to have a side job and we are so proud! I'd get some art up! Lol! You are looking fit! Cheers!
You'll be glad when those days are over! My son also went to UofT Med and lived all over the place over the years due to hospital placements. He's now in his last year of residency, so he's making a bit of money. My younger son is now in Law at Osgoode. With what we paid between tuition, rent, and expenses, I could have retired at 55 or purchased a nice place down south. All good though, I still plan to retire before 60. I wish your daughter the best of luck!
@@BungHoleCamper You are so kind!! Thanks so much!! Our youngest plans to go to Law School and Osgoode is fabulous! He and our middle kiddo are at McGill right now in undergrad. I visit a lot being in Vancouver! Thankfully med students in residency make some money although it's not much is it? My husband is a paediatrician and earned about $55,000 during his residency. I did my Ph.D. in clinical psych but no salary! I wish! Lol! I am sending huge care and good luck wishes for your kids and hope they enjoy their chosen professions immensely! Our daughter is aiming for paediatrics but she might shift choice during her rotations. Hey retirement before 60 is fabulous!! 🙂
Thanks! I have been trying to reduce body fat and gain some muscle but it's only about 3 weeks in.
@@JohnnyStrides You look lean! Way to go! I know it’s a lot of work!
I would be better I she's rent around runnymede and Bloor and Islington in a one bedroom house unit would be around 1400 to 1500 max for one bedroom rather than three thousand these are good neighbor hood with lot of restaurant and other store !!
I like, I like!😁 Thanks for showing your apartment Johnny.😘
Thumbnail - "I've fallen and I can't get up."😂My old apartment on Queen W was about $900 now I think it's $2300 😮
Awesome! I used to live at Yonge and Eglinton, fantastic neighborhood for that price! Very walkable area, great subway access, great nightlife, shops and restaurants. I also had a rent controlled unit for close to the same price. There were a lot of rent controlled buildings in that area.
I think you have all the comforts of home, plus your privacy.
You have planned well, having positioned everything to get its max amount of use.
I think it’s fantastic !
Most importantly, you appear happy, your enjoying your life & have everything you truly need.
Well done !
Best of luck.

This is a lovely apartment. Thank you for the tour!
I hope I don’t upset anyone but I liked the space! He was able to reimagine the spaces and they make sense, plus nicely decorated 😊
Thanks for the laugh Johnny. 1:00 "Maybe someday the crosstown will open up.."
Funny stuff.
Thank you for showing us around your home.love the couch and office set up.👍🥰
Great video. Thank you for inviting us to your home. Always enjoy your enthusiasm and charm. 👍🌹
One of the nicer bachelors I've seen, and spacious. Looks like not on the ground floor either. A lot of them here are. They definitely don't make em like they used to.
Thank you so much Johnny! Excellent video!☺️
Bro is proud of his backwards toilet paper . That's one of my pet peeves.
My grandson has a studio apartment 400 sq ft. At Jarvis and Dundas. And pays $2130. @month. He is 10min walk to work and wife works @Vaughn Mills Mall.
Looks awesome Johnny. Also a fan of structure & IKEA.
Very nice apartment. It is small, but well organized. Good taste.
Hey you're looking very trim 💪Mr Strides 😮😉 Nice to see your keeping fit and well. Loving the new look apartment.... very modern ❤ Thanks for showing us around. 😊
Your bachelor is large and the finishes are great. The room layouts are excellent. I would keep this and show shade to anyone who thinks this is subpar.
Wow! Nice apartment and good price!!
I am looking forward for this your apartment video
Cant wait for another video. He's great at making youtube videos. You have to have skills to be able to talk about a speck of dust for 15 minutes
Wow! Johnny, your apartment looks fantastic! You've done an excellent job redecorating, and also your furniture choices are great! Your place now looks bigger and brighter. It's much better organized partly because of the new and efficient furniture, and due to the layout. The plants add some more colour and warmth especially since you're not really able to put up art work.
I'm a former teacher so I am grading your efforts and results with a solid 'A'. :)
Thank you :)
You're welcome. Happy Thanksgiving.
Susan
Thanks for the tour. I totally agree on upgrading to a OLED television. I saved a little bit on a year old model LG G1 55” and am totally impressed. My viewing experience changed completely. If I had rent control I wouldn’t move. I would stack the cash.
I was living in the same neighborhood during my stay in Toronto and just got to know your videos. I also loved walking in Midtown in its streets and nice parks 🚶🏻
When I saw the rent price, I knew it was from at least 10 years ago. Amazing price for these times. Great video, love your apartment. So comfy and peaceful 👏👏
@@robindaniels2987 not necessarily. My husband and I moved in to a co-op spring of 2023 and we pay 1000 for a large two bedroom on a major street in Toronto. Of cuz every member contribute to the maintenance to keep expenses low in addition, After we moved in we realized why rent is low. During AGM, all members vote whether or not there needs to be an increase in rent and determine how much it should be. Every Co-op operates differently. The wait-list took years but it's so worth it!!! .
@ wow, that’s incredible. Enjoy your new space. That’s what rent should be now. Not 100% of people’s income🤦🏻♀️
Awesome tour of your apartment, Johnny! ❤ it.
That is decent price considering the economy these days. One thing i deffo miss about my apartment was those concrete walls!!!! Lol, in my house i hear my neighbours daily, if i get a chance no more townhouse!
You know what you
want
Like❤
And stayed in your budget. 🎉🎉
I would be very comfortable if I came to visit. Yeah for a well thought out apartment 😉
You are lucky to rent an apartment in the Yonge Eglinton area for 1100.😮
Creative use of space. For the bathroom a towel rack helps if more space is needed, but it looks like the right side of the medicine cabinet would block it. 🤔For the closet, cascading hangers that hold 5 items create more space too.
Nice utilization of space Johnny. Plants add a splash of colour.
Haha I love how he says “the bedroom” and here is “the living room” and over here “the kitchen”. If it was legal, they wouldn’t even put a door on the washroom.
Ps. Your voice is unforgettable. I watched your old videos.
Am happy for you Johnny. You are very fortunate to have rented your apartment before the property rental market went out of control. Nice apartment. Looks comfortable for a bachelor. Thank you for sharing it with us. Hope you are renting your Thailand condo as an air bnb or through a broker when you are back in Toronto.
You got a great deal in Toronto that is quite a low price. My brother pays that same amount for a small bedroom in a shared house.
clean up that awesome balcony. very similar to my own apt. My shoe collection is ridiculous. I'm a 67 yr. young shoe-junkie. My 24 year old nephew is always borrowing them. Your set-up is to be envied. I'm very happy for you.
WOW!! I didn’t know such a thing was even possible. Lucky guy!
Nice Bachelor apartment. Nice plants.
Thanks!
Absolutely beautiful sharing upload and share ! .. loved the beautiful lovely place to live in, and appreciate your efforts and hard work for sharing your beautiful sharing lifestyle and millions thanks again from Montreal QC ! ..
Thank you for doing the toilet paper thingy in this video as well!!
I love your layout! I wish my apartment was that well organized. And a big shout out to all of us "toilet paper from the back" people! It's the only way to live!
You'd have to be some kind of freak to hang your tp any other way!
@@JohnnyStrides Freak here. 😁 According to patent #US465588A, filed December 22, 1891, the toilet paper roll should be on the outside, or in the “over” position.
Nice tech. The layout of the apartment looks really cozy.
THanks!
I lived in the same bachelor apt on the 33rd floor facing east in the late 1990s. I was paying close to $700 including a parking space and the bubble swimming pool was not operational. Great location!
The pool has been up for most of the time I've lived here fortunately :)
TBH, Johnny - count your blessings. That apartment for that price in that location is an absolute treasure, you will never find anything comparable again. Happy Canadian Thanksgiving🦃
Real Estate/Rental prices are pretty much the same in Vancouver. I saw another Utuber do an apartment tour and pretty sure she lives in your building as her apartment has the identical layout. She has her bedroom where you have your office. You are in a prime location in Toronto - don't ever move. I sometimes miss my bachelor apartment days as it forced you to be super organized and only keep what you love & need.
very cool.. you have utilized your space very efficiently great job.
wow! Love what you did with the place! Looks awesome
Nice place. Nice stuff from IKEA, Ahhhh Yonge and Eglinton my old stomping grounds. I know the area well. Lived there from the 1980's to 2008. It sure has changed a lot since then. Was up there recently. Now I am down here by the St Lawrence Market.
me as well. lived at 1989 Yonge. it was a corner store and now a Rogers. the two blocks south going towards Davisville on the east side are completely different from my time. pretty much its all changed.
Nice place dude. I pay $1550 for a 2 bedroom and ive been here since 2011 and just like you said ill probably be here for a long time since the market is wild
Haha I love how he says “the bedroom” and here is “the living room” and over here “the kitchen”. If it was legal, they wouldn’t even put a door on the washroom.
I might copy your sofa, road table and side table. I loath my sofa. Too big for my living room.
I have thick walls like you also. A gem of older in Toronto.
Thank you for not torturing us with annoying music 🎶. I just subscribed because of that. Lots of love and light.
I love studio apartments. I had one years ago…the bathroom was all mine but it was across the hall, lol. You did great organizing it.
I'm struggling with where to put things in my new place so I enjoyed the tour, the language, and storage solutions.
I think your apartment layout is one of the best I've seen for a bachelor and you have a balcony to boot!
You went into depth about things like your internet connection, shoes and TV, which I enjoyed.
I couldn't look at my bed all day so I might move it to where you have your office currently or keep it there but get a Murphy or keep the floor bed but use a privacy screen or moveable room divider panels that can be hung from the ceiling. But overall, great job.
You will never get rid of those knats (bugs) if you keep watering your plants from the top, I always water 💦 my plants from the bottom, put a bowl underneath with water and your plants will let you know they have had enough water, cause when the soil is wet on top, those knats will lay eggs and keep breeding and they will also end up killing your plants, it’s also strengthens the plant roots when watering the bottom, hope this helps, you have a very nice clean home
Oh come on on! You didn’t even show me the view from your balcony! 😢…
( did your know that you have people following you all the way from Egypt ?😊
the 'wrong' way to hang the toilet paper is the over the roll way. it's preferred because it's less likely that people will touch the wall. I learned this is generally the preferred way after working at a place with public facilities. it also prevents unnecessary contact at home!
Nice old, i.e. decent-sized and livable apartment. I love the black blackout curtains. Your internet speeds make me cry though (no fibre optic in my Don Mills condo).
With that price, never leave. Beautiful decorated.
Wow you really organized your apartment well! Looks really nice 👌 😊🎉
Wow! Looking at where you live with how much you pay makes me realize how fortunate I am to have been able to afford to buy the large house I live in. Your entire apartment is only slightly larger than my master bedroom. However, you did the best to make your small space a home.
Johnny that was awesome video tour of your apartment great job Johnny 😊
Thanks so much for the apartment tour. Really like what you've done with the place.
Pretty blessed to have that place. There are some good landlords out there etc that dont kick you out or overcharge. I was in a place in scarborough for 650 just a few years ago. My brother since moved in and only pays like 680 now. But the location is whats solid
Your rent is unheard of with what you showed. I'm from the west coast 🇨🇦🥲
In 2006 I had a 400 sqft apartment in Newport Beach for $1000. Lived there a year. It had a murphy bed that folded down from the wall. Currently it's $1700 and way out of my price range. Ah well.
same over here in halifax lately
thanks for the tour i too am locked into a rent control apartment lots of pros lots of cons
Brother, if you want "Honey" to come home, and also for a more relaxing nights rest, you might want to consider moving your bed to where your office is, making that your bedroom. Maybe add a couple stools for a breakfast bar too. I would keep the dafk curtains on that side, but put lighter ones in the main area where you do most of your daily living.
Rent is just crazy but have you considered putting your bed where your office is now? It would give you more privacy and you could hang pictures and curtains to section it off or close it off completely try it
Nice Toronto Apartment Tour Johnny
Wowwwww for 1100$ in Toronto is good 👍
I pay $900 for a 1 bedroom on the water in Etobicoke by Waterfront Trail. Heat, Electricity included. some of the Players on the Toronto Maple Leafs live in my area because it's close to the Practice rink and Airport. I'm never leaving.
very comfortable and lovely home ❤
I am near Vancouver and got in at 2002 prices. Lived here 22 yrs so far because everything is through the roof to buy.
Thanks for the update Johnny. You've really maximized the space well. I've been looking for a good walking shoe. I'm going to check out this Xero brand. Happy Thanksgiving!
$1100 is an *amazing* price for an apartment. My first apartment in Manhattan, I paid $1100 plus utilities back in 1990 (yes, 34 years ago) it did have a separate bedroom. Back in 2002, I paid $1100 (plus utilities & internet) in Los Angeles (building was built in 1970s) but it also had a garage for my car, which was very nice. Where I live now, I haven't paid $1100 (plus utilities & internet) since 2013 and it was built in the 1930s, but it did have a driveway for parking. So, hang on to that place as long as you can. Owning a home is so overrated because it takes up so much of your time taking care of it.
Today, you'd be lucky to find a studio/bachelor for less than $3K USD. This is a college town outside of San Francisco called Berkeley. Even in rent controlled apartments, if a family member moves in, they can legally evict you. If you try and fight it, an eviction stays on your credit record for years and makes it almost impossible to rent or buy a condo after that. This law is in both NYC and California.
I have never seen an apartment with cement walls where you can knock and not hear your neighbors. That is a musicians dream!
Very practical and stylish bachelor. If I had a place that cheap with all utilities included except internet, I'd probably never move. Seriously. Hang onto it and sock money away for as long as you can!
In most places in Canada you can also get evicted if a close family member moves in.
Some landlords try to take advantage of this loophole by lying so tenants need to do their research if it happens (i.e., if the landlord has a multimillion dollar business, it’s unlikely their family member is willing to move into a 500 sq. ft. suite in an old building.). In some cities or provinces you can get compensated if you find out that the landlord lied. If you’re willing to move, you can also negotiate to see if they’ll cover moving expenses or rent increases in your new place. It pays to know what your rights are.
@@polishtheday Agreed! Some landlords will get up and lie in front of a court, too, so you (sadly) do have to document. It can take up a lot of your time and life energy to fight someone like this, and your money, too, if you have to hire legal counsel.
I don't know what it is like in Canada, but in the US, it's not about who is right, it's about who can prove their case in court. The party with the best attorney is the one who walks away the "winner", so to speak.
@@LearnGrowHealThrive Most places here have tribunals where tenants and landlords take their complaints and where the outcome is determined without going through the regular justice system. There are non-profits who will help tenants prepare evidence to support their claims. I don’t think you need a lawyer, though I guess there’s nothing to stop anyone, either tenant or landlord, from getting legal advice or having a lawyer represent them.
I only know of one person who has ever gone through the process and she won because the landlord had clearly broken an agreement that was written in the lease. It isn’t always a perfect solution. Some landlords in Ontario have had trouble evicting problem tenants and have lost thousands of dollars because of the backlog of cases, but this has probably more to do with a lack of government funding for the tribunal.
@@polishtheday Great info to know, thank you for taking the time to explain. It's interesting to me how things are done in different countries.
Cool place! Looks really cozy and you’ve made it so perfect for yourself!
Thank you!
HAHAHA!!! "Honey, am home"..😀 Good day/evening, Beautiful Johnny Strides & thanks much for showing us around in your apt. & that is a pretty good price with all necessary utilities included, ideal, definitely, for one person, for sure. WOW, you even have plants to take care of, that's good, read that plants improve air quality in the home. Hey, you do have a female in your home named Alexa!!lol!! So, saying, "Honey, am home" will do, even if she is not there in person, wouldn't you say?!lol!! You are well set up, for sure, Johnny Strides! Thanks again for this wonderful tour & have a wonderful day/night! Cheers & keep yourself safe & healthy!! 🥰🥰🦅🦅🦅🦅
Hey, Johnny. Thank you so much for opening up your private space to us. I also live in an one bedroom apt in Thorncliffe Park and I could relate to you so much. LOL. Man, how on earth are you paying only $1100 per month for an apartment like that? I envy you so much. My rent is like $1950 for a one bedroom unit infested with cockroaches and I thought I was the lucky one! At least, I don't see any rats inside the building, so that's a plus. Anywho, thank you!
Stick with this one. Great price n location.
You should check out a drying mat to replace the dish rack. I’ll never go back
Only a few bucks at the Dollarma on the West side of Yonge😅
Nice set-up Johnny -- looks real nice!!
Thanks!
I can’t wait for the apartment video
In the US, this would be called an alcove studio apartment. Nice use of space and you're lucky you can't hear your neighbors.
Beautiful Apartment. Decorative nice. You got a Good mine. Thank God your there.🐅👌
Thank you!! That was quite fun and satisfying to my vicarious interests! 🪴
Nice space! It’s quite similar to my $780 per month apartment in Montreal but newer vibe, with a bigger kitchen, more storage and a balcony.
The only thing that would make me want to move is facing a busy street but we gotta hold on to cheap rent. 🤣 So I think I’m gonna use your layout as inspiration since I’ve been wanting to redecorate mine! Great work 🫡
In my retirement town here, you would get a 4-room apartment to rent for that price. Newly built house (2017), underfloor heating, solar roof etc...
Otherwise, a very nice apartment, I like it a lot and it would be something for me too. Soundproofing is always important to me. I live in an old building here and hear every little thing from the neighbors. Phones ringing, conversations, even snoring, just horrible.
Nice Apartment Johnny
The tour was great, you have a lot of great "stuff" but i must say you have very expensive taste. These days not many people can afford a pair of walking/running shoes for almost $300. I do understand you're not telling people they have to buy them, just making an observation. Anyway, nice apartment. I've been living in my apartment in Toronto, for about 12 years and pay about the same as you for a one bedroom. Although i'd love to move out of the city, getting an apartment at this rate anywhere is impossible. Thanks again for the tour.
That's not a plant anymore it's a stump. And I'm grandfathered in over on Thorncliffe Park Drive. I have a 2 bedroom for just over $1400. Your place is nice.
Very nice tour, thanks!
