A wonderful family. Dean was extremely talented, creative, handsome, and hardworking. We all loved and enjoyed his work, the people he worked with, and his songs! Thanks for sharing the documentary.
Dean was very smart here. He had just broken up with Jerry and it was right before his personal stardom had taken off making him a legend. Up until the success of the young lions he was very nervous about going it alone. He was kind to Jerry as to not burning any bridges. Once it all took off for him he never discussed Jerry and never had him on the dean Martin show whereas every star in Hollywood appeared through the closet after jumping down from the piano. Class act. Never bashed Jerry. Dean is still my idol. I’m 62 and have loved him since I was 12.
It was Dean who didn't want him on his show. It wasn't Jerry who didn't want to go. Greg Garrison has repeatedly proposed to Dean Martin to host Jerry at least once but he has always refused!
At my Daughter wedding ( father daughter dance ) she surprised me with My favorite Dean Martin song. We dance to. She took piano lessons and learned how to play it for me. Memories
I love watching this interview. Dean, Jeanne, and the kids are so down to earth. The all Ametican family. I am the same age as "baby Gina". Sure miss the good old days when people were friendly and life was at a slower pace.

I love when Dean Paul (Dino) replies to the guitar string question; he sounds just like his father when he does! With a laughable "Well, duh!" expression to boot! Lol.
I LOVED THIS! I was born in the 1950's, so this brings me back to this wonderful time period. Beautiful family. I couldn't help but grieve knowing that Dean and Jeanie would lose their precious son in a plane crash(Dean, Jr. "Dino")...killed in a fighter jet crash while serving in the reserves. VERY SAD. Thanks for posting this wonderful video!

WorkshopPops That’s only partially true. Although there seems to have some residual bitterness between them and they never actually socialised much after the split, there are several clips on You tube which show that they did run into each other at various events over the years. Two that come to mind are when Jerry was host at the 1959 Oscars, which Dean also attended, and Dean making a brief appearance (along with Bing Crosby) when Jerry was a guest on the Eddie Fisher Show In 1958.
@@WorkshopPops No, the myth of 20 years without speaking is deliberately carried on by both Dean and Jerry. In recent years it is being discovered that they actually saw each other publicly a dozen times before the 1976 Telethon. They never really cut off contact with each other. They never deleted their respective phone numbers. When Dean Jerry's father died he went to him to offer condolences. Who was with them said that they kissed and hugged, always before 1976. Always before the Telethon messages were written on the mirrors of the dressing rooms with a red lipstick ... when they knew that one of the two had to perform in that particular club. I don't know why they intentionally hinted that they never spoke again until 1976.
you can tell how much Dean missed Jerry even though it had not been much time, at that point, since their act had broken up. They didnt talk to each other until Dean made a surprise visit to the Jerry Lewis telethon in 1976

The Young Lions was, in fact, representative of a successful transition to dramatic roles for Martin, which continued with Some Came Running and Rio Bravo. His career continued to grow stronger, while Lewis, who peaked with The Nutty Professor, began to experience a decline after the mid sixties as public taste changed. Brian Russel Oh, come on now - what self-respecting teenager doesn’t regard their parents as being ‘old fashioned’ in everything from their clothes to their taste in music?! (and vice-versa, of course...)
theddiissccoo that’s true. I believe that at the time it was practically unheard of for the father to be given custody of the children, so to me that’s indicative of how bad the family situation must have become for them under Betty’s care. Deana goes into some detail about the kind of life they were living in her book, with Betty becoming increasingly unable to cope, until finally her own sister was forced to intervene and take them to Dean and Jeannie’s home after their mother just dumped all 4 of them on her and disappeared.
There was no debate about it, no custody battle. She couldn't look after them, so her sister took them to Dean's house, and there they stayed. Dean did buy his first wife a house, but she had drinking problems, so couldn't care for the kids.
@@lindashelley3635You never read Deana’s book, did you? It’s titled “Memories Are Made of This”, Dean couldn’t care less whether the first 4 kids lived with Betty or not. All 4 of them chose to live with Dean.

Dean comes off more likable than Jerry Lewis who did a similar interview the same year. This is probably one of the few interviews he has ever did. I was also suprised he mentioned Jerry Lewis. When I was a kid in the 60s both were highly popular and I was suprised at some point when I found out they were once a comedy team. It was like a kid finding out that Paul McCartney was once a Beatle in the 70s.
what an intrusion on their life u can tell none of them were happy about it although magnanimous studio mustve made them do it can you imagine a star today agreeing to something like this
Yes, the young people were clearly feeling very awkward. It would have been better to have them all outdoors, maybe playing ball or something...? To make them all sit in contrived poses must have made them nervous. Wonder what the atmosphere was like AFTER the broadcast ?! " Oo-er ! " 🙂.
Jeanne made a sudden move when he spoke of Jerry. There was no love lost there. Jeanne was extremely jealous of Jerry and vice versa. But the fact that Dean talked about/referenced Jerry his whole like speaks volumes, even when he bashed him. Jerry wouldn't retaliate, and Dean kept on with the anti-Jerry rants and the more Jerry ignored him, the nastier the rants got. He was begging Jerry to answer him. He loved him
At the 5:00 minute mark, is that a picture of Dean & Jerry on the wall? (the interview is likely from 1957, as baby Gina was born in 1956, and we are told she's one year old in the clip; also Dean would be 40 and his wife Jeanne about 30)
I don't know if there was any trick, like pre recorded stuff, but do i think everything was really live but.... considering the size of the cameras those days (they had plenty of angles), their direct link is better than lives via internet nowadays, uh?

....... most kids that age, even today are uneasy around adults because they don't want to accept anyone who isn't their age. Trust me if Elvis would have been in that room they would be acting happy beyond words.
Fabian Patrizio If this was 1958 i think it must have been around the time that Dean and Jeannie gained custody of his older children from his first wife Betty. Deanna tells in her book that it was at first a bit of a difficult and awkward transition for them to become used to a more settled and traditional lifestyle after the rather nomadic life they had been living with their mother. She was 9 years old when they moved in, and her siblings were already in their teens (Craig was 15 and was not able to feel comfortable with the new arrangements so soon moved back in with his maternal grandparents) After a while, thanks in no small part to Jeannie's efforts, (despite the fact that she was only in her twenties herself, and already had the three little ones of her own) they did all settle down to become part of a large happy 'blended' family. But this programme must have been made during those first awkward and uncertain months.
bobik212 I seem to remember reading somewhere that Perry Como always refused to do this show, or anything like it, because he believed in keeping his family life private and separate from his show-business career.
Did you see the way she dumped the baby onto the nanny, it quite clear the nanny raises the children - given her all the time in the world to doll herself up.
westie kid I don't think that's quite fair. Yes, they had help (including also a cook and a handyman) but according to both Deana and Ricci's books, Jeannie was apparently a very 'hands on' Mother who doted on the younger children and played a big part in helping the older ones settle in after she and Dean gained custody of them. It was Jeannie who supervised and decorated the extension they had built onto the house to accommodate the older kids, helped in choosing their new school and organised for them to have tennis and riding lessons. According to Deana; "she filled our home with love and laughter, fun and games."
Murrow did a piss poor job in this interview, in my opinion ? I always hate when someone is being interviewed and asked a question but the person doing the interview never lets them either answer or finish their answer.
@@ceplio Betty put up with a lot and turned to drink after Dean left her for the younger Jeanne. 'Pretty crazy', is a thoughtless remark. Losing her husband and having her children taken to live with the girl who he'd cheated on her with couldn't have been easy for her. Imagine.
bunnyhop3211 I agree the whole situation was messy, and I don’t condone how Dean treated Betty because he apparently cheated on her with many chorus girls while he was on the road a lot of the time at the start of their marriage. Jeannie was certainly not the first, but she was the one he seriously fell for and chose to marry. In her book Deana gives a more detailed account of how the divorce affected Betty and set her on a downward spiral. She started to neglect the children and spent a great deal of her alimony and child support on wild parties (to the point where at times the police had to be called) and moving them from home to home and different schools. Now, obviously Dean wasn’t entirely blameless, but this wasn’t the only Hollywood marriage that ended badly, and I don’t see how he could be held responsible for the way Betty handled it. In any case, it finally came to the point where Betty dumped the kids on her sister Anne without any spare clothes or money and just disappeared for several days. It was only then that Anne, in desperation, took them to Dean and told him that he had to take responsibility. Jeannie, despite her young age and having 3 little ones of her own, agreed to take on the upbringing of the 4 older ones too and they were given legal custody at a time when it was practically unheard of for a father to be given those rights. And,according to Deana, Betty didn’t even bother to turn up to the court hearing.
Eventually Dean dumped Jeannie for a newer model, the way he dumped first wife Betty for Jeannie. Ironically, Betty was beautiful and looked much like Jeannie. Dean's last wife Catherine was... well, she was very young.

Katrina Longworth said that Jean rolled her eyes when Dean finished talking about Jerry. All she did was sneak a look off camera. She wasn't rolling her eyes. She could have been looking at the dog or someone from the crew.
Glad he broke off with Jerry Lewis, I never could stand him. The only reason his humour worked in those early days was because of Dean, who is actually naturally funnier, but more subtle.
michele adamo All of them was Deans kids. He had 4 from his 1st wife. These kids came to live with Jeanne and Dean when his 1st wife couldn't care for them Jeanne had 3 kids with Dean.
@@toniwilson1579 And in later years, after he and Jeannie divorced, Dean married the much younger Cathy Hawn and adopted her daughter Sasha, who I believe was around 7 years old at the time. There doesn’t seem to be any information about her biological father or if he ever contested custody of the child. Similarly, when Dean divorced Catherine after only 3 years of marriage, she and Sasha seem to have disappeared back into obscurity as there is no information that I have seen online about them either.
Hey, Alain--what's up with the long string o' sex tape links here in the comments from this Roger Lacquet fella? This ain't the place for that sorta garbage...?
The only reason that Dean Martin was a registered Republican was the influence of US Senator Robert taft, a anti-war Senator from Martin's birthplace Ohio. dean Martin was a very good friend of Jane Fonda who was anti-war like Senator Robert Taft!!!!
MsJoybird1 I think you’re wrong about that. Two of the kids (Deana and Ricci) both wrote books about growing up with their famous father, in which they tell of how Dean often played with them as children, and how they would all spend time together as they grew up, just like any ‘normal’ family would, like having water-fights or playing football in the garden. It’s true that Dean could be something of a ladies man, but he also had a quieter side who enjoyed being at home with Jeannie and their kids, having dinner together and catching up, watching cowboy films on TV, or else playing golf with his friends.
Oh my God!! Surely I can't be the only person who was almost in tears watching this? What a beautiful beautiful family, so well spoken & polite. RIP to each & every one of these wonderful people xx

" Oo-er ! "
🙂.
He loved him
All his children look alike.
4:58 “speak up honey” 🥺🥺🥺
I always feel sorry for kids of celebrities. Having a camera crew come into your house isn’t normal.
Boy you can sure tell which kids are hers and which ones aren't.
Being a celebrity is bizarre.
Love deans reaction after the Gail plus Elvis comment
Anyone notice the pic of dean and jerry on the wall??
YOU NOTICE THE SHIT EYEBROW JOB ON MORROW?
In what scene is the picture of Dean & Jerry?

Edward R. "Ed" Murrow (nacido Egbert Roscoe Murrow), (25 de abril de 1908 - 27 de abril de 1965) fue un periodista estadounidense. Trabajó como locutor de noticias en la CBS para radio y televisión.
57 años.
I just asked myself how they filmed the segment back in the late 50s
Jeanne did not look happy when Dean mentioned how meeting Jerry was a very lucky break.
Quelle belle famille 7 enfants tous beaux et jeaniequelle mère exemplaire si jolie .et si heureux a ce moment Dean Paul disparaitra. Dans un accident d avion rip mais il y a la très dinamique deana avec si. Show TS. Les. Vendredis merci a Dean pour cette belle lignée on vous aime tous
How many of the older children was from his first wife? And what about little Dino? HOW cute was he even at that age? What a cutie-pie.
123Rockchild
The 4 older children was from his 1st wife. Dino was from Jeanne. Also he adopted his 3rd wife daughter so Dean had 8 children at the end of his life.
"All those children, must be busy in the kitchen" - Like she would know.
Family man
Sweet normal familyxxx
Such regular down yo earth people, Beyoncé has 15 body guards and no talent
How did they talk to him from another location?
The older ones seem so shy and uneasy (esp Craig)
Felt bad for Craig. He made a joke 'i like to sing but no one likes to listen to me'. but the interviewer didnt get it
....... most kids that age, even today are uneasy around adults because they don't want to accept anyone who isn't their age.

:((...Well if you ever have anything with Perry please upload it. Thank you :)
bobik212 I seem to remember reading somewhere that Perry Como always refused to do this show, or anything like it, because he believed in keeping his family life private and separate from his show-business career.
A mother of all those children dressed (and looking) like a teenager herself. What a trip!

Wow that was uncomfortable!
Anna Vogt It was very stilted, but don't forget this was around 1957/8 (judging by the children's ages) when television was still a pretty new medium.
Murrow did a piss poor job in this interview, in my opinion ? I always hate when someone is being interviewed and asked a question but the person doing the interview never lets them either answer or finish their answer.
rc5chi Time is limited on TV
Understood BUT if you don't want to hear the answer, don't ask the question?
Dean and Jerry did a skit of Murrow's interviews. Dean was Murrow and Jerry was playing a Marlon Brando character.
The 2 older kids seem alittle weird..
Sad the kids were taken from their mother. SMH
rakesfunnyfarm I know! see the way his second wife carried the baby and just dumped her baby on to the nanny. 😒
you dont know the whole story rakesfunnyfarm, she was a severe alcoholic and was pretty crazy, and thats why the custody was given to dean
what kids?
Man, Dean's wife was a beautiful woman. Starting at 8:58.
Eventually Dean dumped Jeannie for a newer model, the way he dumped first wife Betty for Jeannie. Ironically, Betty was beautiful and looked much like Jeannie. Dean's last wife Catherine was... well, she was very young.
Is this the first "Zoom" meeting?

Katrina Longworth said that Jean rolled her eyes when Dean finished talking about Jerry. All she did was sneak a look off camera. She wasn't rolling her eyes. She could have been looking at the dog or someone from the crew.

HELLO HELLO™👢👢🏁
Glad he broke off with Jerry Lewis, I never could stand him. The only reason his humour worked in those early days was because of Dean, who is actually naturally funnier, but more subtle.
They were both funny! Dean had perfect timing and Jerry played off of Dean. The humour worked because of their magic chemistry.
Seven kids is what were his biologically
michele adamo
All of them was Deans kids. He had 4 from his 1st wife. These kids came to live with Jeanne and Dean when his 1st wife couldn't care for them
Jeanne had 3 kids with Dean.
Is there Perry Como Person to person?
Hey, Alain--what's up with the long string o' sex tape links here in the comments from this Roger Lacquet fella? This ain't the place for that sorta garbage...?
one of his sons' name is Ricky? Ricky Martin :) what does Ricky do these days...anyone know.?
He travels the world singing his dad's songs and telling his memories of his father on stages in front of big audiences.
His name is Ricky, yes, but it's actually spelled Ricci.
Sorry, I did not Perry Como
Yo Aaron DC I’m. FCC

These two persons have the exact potical opinons-very liberal like John F. Kennedy1!!!
Dean Martin was a registered Republican. Just like Jerry Lewis
The only reason that Dean Martin was a registered Republican was the influence of US Senator Robert taft, a anti-war Senator from Martin's birthplace Ohio. dean Martin was a very good friend of Jane Fonda who was anti-war like Senator Robert Taft!!!!
he would be happy now then.
Dean was a liberal at heart. Largely apolitical - Sinatra was the conservative - Martin distained politics unless he had to put up with it.
Dean Martin was no family man! Dean was never at home!
I, too have heard what a great family man Dean was.
