God bless Dean. I was privileged to be one of 8 backup singers on his TV show for 6 wonderful years. He was so delightful to work with, just a great guy, no star ego. I miss those years and have wonderful memories. RIP, Boss.
I'm glad to see by the comments that I'm not the only one who misses great performers like Dean & Frank. He sounds so sad here that I just wish I could give him a hug.
Excellent job by the interviewer. She asked interesting questions and then let Dean answer without interrupting. Not easy for most ego driven talk hosts. RIP Dean
@@TruthSayer2007 Yeah you looked at TV history and decided "Yep here's where they stopped being humble" Calm down Mr. History. You'd probably next say they stopped making real music already and then say something like "They don't make them like they used to" Lol.
"This has been the nicest interview I've ever had from a pretty lady"...Dean Martin was a class act and the interviewer was so compassionate and sweet...God bless them both...most enjoyable to watch
I really became a Dean fan when I found out he stood up for Marilyn Monroe during her troubles while they were shooting her last movie together, Something's Got To Give. He threatened to bail on the project if they replaced her. That made me appreciate the humanity of the guy.
Well since you made mention of M.M.....there was her manager that had invoked other side / demonic forces at one point for favor. I am one of the top scholars in this biographical area. S. Davis lost his sight, Martin lost a child etc....MM lost life in early demise. Also the same manger (one of many) with Dino was also a manager of Dino.....This stuff is real folks! my effort of exposing and my 1 cent. Please pray and maintain faith in Jesus......and never worship man or Idols! GOD bless all of us.....
@@BigBand1942 Hi since the mentioned demonic forces I just wanted to let you know as (I am a Top Scholar in this Realistic Area.) that life happens "because" it happens. There's no demons ,no God or angels, just an excuse people force themselves into believing so they can try and make sense of life or find some control. I'm here to spread the word of reality
One can never say enough on how Dino made each one of us feel. I feel we were blessed to have him on this great earth! His wit, his charm, his ease of delivery, his charisma always will give me ( and I'm sure all of you) immense pleasure listening to him. Long live the aura of Dean Martin!
You can see how Dean Paul's death affected Dean Martin. What a parent goes through is something no one can know but the parent. I loved Dean Martin because he loved his family so much and was such a consummate performer. We miss you, Dean
I think the death of his son obviously affected him greatly, but I also have a feeling he must have had a stroke or been on a significant amount of pain killers during this interview because his speech was significantly slower and more ponderous than just a few years previously.
Dean Martin was an incredibly generous man. I know people in upstate New York that knew him, and they told me of his generosity. He came from humble beginnings, achieved great success and never let it get to his head.
I had never seen this guy serious for 2 seconds, but here with this sincere interviewer and with more gravity in his personal life, Dean really opened up and was sober minded.
@King Royal Since your sentence structure is so poor and ambiguous it's difficult to understand who you are talking about using the pronoun "he" If "he" is Dean Martin I'm pretty sure he has not really taken up arms against anyone since WWII. If it's the son who is the "he" you are referring, he was captain the California National guard and you seem to have some knowledge about his participation in some conflict where "he" is responsible for an attack on some civilian population. Profound as you point may be, if you even have a point, some relevant context might help the casual observer understand to what you may be eluding. What you said is shallow, lacks any context and appears to be more focused on creating some acrimony rather than contributing to understanding or empathy. If you are asserting that Dean Paul Martin checked out a fighter/bomber, flew it over to Palestine and dropped lethal ordinance, single handedly I can assure you that this did not happen. In fact I have not read or heard and can find no information of any armed conflict that Dean Paul Martin was involved in. So perhaps you could provide some details and facts as to what you are referring. That way us objective folks may be enlightened. It would certain bolster your bona fides and make you look smarter than you appear to be.
He reminds me of my dad. My dad had multiple systems atrophy a bit like Parkinson's but not the shaking. If he was drunk he wouldn't be so clear headed. Seems like his brain wasn't sending messages very well. Beautiful man.
@@netmeistr329 Well, that was a rather exaggerated analysis on the guy’s comment. 😂 However, I must agree with your point on his ambiguity.

All those hours, days, weeks, months, years, of pure professional entertainment. We laughed and laughed and had joy up to our eyebrows. To say will never have entertainment like this again again is a true understatement. Thanks dean. GOD bless you.
I was a student pilot at Williams AFB in Arizona when Dean Paul was going through training. Even though he was the son of Dean Martin, he was not conceited or arrogant or stuck up in any way. He was a very nice personable guy like his Dad. It was a tragedy when he was killed and IMHO Dean never got over it.
I agree. Dean's later years were ones of a man still in great pain. I think Frank Sinatra got him to go back out on the road with him & Sammy Davis, Jr. for a Rat Pack reunion, but Dean was just no longer up to the task & bowed out after a few shows (I believe Liza Minnelli might have finished out the tour). In fact, his last decade or so, I am not sure Dean did much public performing at all.
@jett woodward Yes, in his later years Dean just stayed pretty much by himself. There was an Italian restaurant he would go to almost every week in Hollywood I believe. He'd go there alone and eat alone. Sometimes people would come over for autographs, etc. and he was always gracious but the sad fact was he was alone. He was just never the same and totally understandable. Sinatra should have understood what Dean was going through but Sinatra was always thin-skinned. My hope is he made his peace with Dean before Dean's passing.
@jett woodward If you go on UA-cam to this: Martin and Lewis: The Myth of 20 Years of Silence you will see a video clip of Eddie Fischer doing a show circa 1958. He's on stage talking to Jerry when out from behind the curtain pops Dean! It's very funny and there's one or two more clips of Dean and Jerry circa 1960 or 61. Clearly they seem to have no animosity towards each other. My uncle once told me "They probably talk to each other whenever they have to, but I doubt that they see each other very often". I think that was pretty accurate. They had that bond of 10 years together but as with many relationships it had it's ups and downs. I hope at the end of Dean's life he was at peace with Jerry and I think he was.
Fabian Patrizio As well as being known to all those who knew him as a genuinely nice guy with a great sense of humour. And, when you come down to it, isn't that how we'd all like to be remembered, as someone who made you smile and feel good inside? RIP to the King of Cool.
He was not underrated he was best in his time, maybe now stupid ticktock brainless kardashianwhoreplastic idiots dont know that but he was allways known as a amazing star
There is a part of this interview that has been cut.she ask things about jerry Lewis and he says if you mention JL again I'll get up and walk out.this can be seen on UA-cam
What a sweetheart. God bless him and rest his soul. Hope he's up there singing happily with his son for all eternity. There will never again be anyone to even come close to the likes of him gracing this world again. RIP Dean Martin.
Always loved Dean and his show in the '60's. He was simply the coolest guy on TV at the time. He would open his show sliding down that Fireman's pole, and inevitably make a self-deprecating joke about reading the cue cards. Dean had the best entertainers in the world as his guests, and always signed off with that friendly, "keep those cards and letters coming in..." From the time I was 7 years old, I always wanted a Ferrari because I'd heard that's what Dean drove. Great guy!
People say Sinatra was the best singer but I think Dean had the better voice by far. His natural vibrato and smooth sound was beautiful...so melodic. I loved him in Rio Bravo and the songs he sang in it. Yes, to me, he was the better of the two.
victor was right His youth was a different story. People grow and change. The Dean Martin that we all know and love was a charitable and generous man, one who was a great friend and family man. That is what is important.
You are exactly 100% right...I read that, after his son's terrible accident...he was "never" the same...My father...growing up.. treated me like crap. He told me I'd never amount to anything....If I had died...like Dean Martin's son did...I have this sneaking suspicion...my father would have said: "Oh, well..."
@@jimshoe6699 Oh Jim, im sure your dad would have been heart broken and gulity as heck over how he treated you. But his treatment of you was HIS failing, not yours. Your dad as well as mine didnt realise what a precious gift they had, All the very best darlin""
@ Jim Shoe I totally relate to your story, my Dad was abusive to my Mother my older brother and younger sister, both physically and emotionally. When I came home in 1968 from Marine Corps boot camp that stopped. I thought about his upbringing on a ranch in Oklahoma, the oldest of 7 brothers, and how his dad was abusive. Long story short I understood why and decided that, that was one ☝️ trait that ended. We got real later and mom and dad were divorced for a year and realizing they loved each other, I was the Best Man at their wedding. I'm sorry you never heard these 3 words but he did tell me he loved me. If this helps anyone reconcile with the feelings that are similar then I'm glad I took the time to respond. If you are an abuser then STOP and ask yourself why.
There was a moment on one of his Christmas specials when he hugged Dean Paul, and you could tell he just adored that kid. He was sweet with all of kids on the show, but it seemed to me that there was a special attachment to Dean Paul, and his father's pain about his death is painful to witness here. He's clearly gutted, even if he says he's a fatalist, the poor man.
Dean was a very quick-witted, smart man who didn't take life too seriously. The death of his son reduced him to a shadow of his former self. His haunted eyes tell the real story of the extent of his grief. At the height of his powers, he was unbeatable. That's how Dean should be remembered.
Yes. Books about Dean, interviews with his close friends, including Frank Sinatra's statement about Dean Paul's death said that Dean never recovered from the deep grief; it shattered him. Dean, it was said, told his son, when he got older, to stay away from the 'business'. And he was very proud of him when he became an Air Force officer and pilot. A blow out of the blue. Sad. Dean was a terrific all-American entertainer. Our society is so changed and we don't have characters like him any more.
I agree I wish I had not watched this , my dad was his image and I remember after I went home after twenty years away seeing my dad as a frail old man ,well it just wasn’t him my dad was 6’1 in bare feet but looked tiny when he was old . Alcohol and loosing family takes the life away from even the greatest men.
The best, most tactful, and insightful interviewers I have ever seen . Dean Martin was truly one of the great entertainers and his movingly honest and gracious insights into the loss of his beloved son was inspirational and deeply moving. Thank you for posting.
Dean really began to go down hill after his son's tragic and untimely death. He was for nearly 50 years A GREAT, GREAT performer. He had style and lots of talent. rest in peace, weary warrior.
Rock music is my thing, but Dino is great, not was great, is great...he has a welcoming warmth in his voice that Sinatra doesn't have, and a great canon of songs and always had a good sense of humor, even as a youngster watched many of his TV shows (my dad was a fan) on ABC tv Australia. His backing band, the band of renown? and I remember himleaping up onto the piano, ha, ha. and didn't see any hint of nastiness in the man. Makes me want to go to Italy before I die, you could easily tour that country with his music as a backdrop.
Dino said it himself in this interview. When a death happens close to home ... "It eats you up"! I truly believe he could not get over the death of his son and honestly believe he grieved himself to death. He was a great entertainer and he has been sorely missed and will continue to be.
You know Dean died of a broken heart. On that Christmas Day in 1995 I feel like he finally just gave into his sorrow & left this earth because he couldn't bear it anymore without Dean Jr. For me Christmas Day is both glad...& sad. I grew up with his Christmas music. I still play it. But I can't help but think that Dean left at a time we remember him most fondly...Christmas. He went on that day so we could remember him forever! I miss him. I still listen to his music. And every now & then I shed a tear.
@James Henderson Dean began to die the day his son died. That's all. Give it all the diagnoses in the world. He died of a broken when his son died. My commet is metaphysical; rather than the long list of medical diagnoses. We know that. But he was so conflicted in his soul at that time.
James Henderson - Seriously, what the fuck is wrong with you? A man loses his child and you make a statement like that. Please let us know when you lose a child or are terminally ill; we’ll all be glad.
Di Di I'm not an especially religious person, but if there is some kind of afterlife it's nice to think that they are all together again somewhere. Now, of course, also with Jeannie and Ricci (and not forgetting his daughter Claudia, who died of cancer a few years after Deans passing)
Lana Dale Dick Dale The Pride of Quincy MA and other places. So many towns claim him Lana. Which city actually deserves that right? It was only recently, when I read, that Dick played in his Uncles group doing traditional Lebanese music. That's when it all made sense to me. Dick and Leo pulled all those wild sounds, out from those "roots"! Please tell him, that everyone in Boston hopes that he's doing fine. And if he's ever in town to give me a ring, to bring him to the clam box anytime. Ask him if he misses Morey Pearl's? I think he'll know what I'm talking about. I'm glad that the Dean of Fender strats is also a fan of Martin's. Dean Martin that is. All the best. JB
JayH7745. I feel you brother. My mom introduced me to Dean, Frank and Nat back in the 60s when i was a boy. I had records and a little tape recorder and i flipped those over time and time again for all day as i played in my room. They just dont make music like that any more. Not even Buble can touch it.
Loosing a child is the most painfull a parent could ever bare but I hope Jennie and Dean Martin find peace and blessings and music will always be the best and we all know that Dean Martin can sing as he has.a spiritual way about him when he starts singing.again it will take care of his spirit Dean Martin when you sing your voice will always be remembered xxx
The grief and emotion in his voice and his facial expression is so evident in this interview. Such a lovely interview, it made me cry. My mother was a fan of Dean, I grew up with his music, and I was a huge fan of Dean-Paul and his band Dino, Desi and Billy in the 60‘s. I still love to listen to both the band and Dean. His son Ricci, who later took Dean-Paul‘s place in the revived band, died in 2016, followed very closely by his mother Jeanne. All of them gone, but never forgotten.
As a father myself, who lost his only child, some days are so hard to remain positive, I still lose it from time to time. Coming up on 3 yrs now, still harbor alot of anger. They say, "time heals old wounds" but in my eyes, time isn't flying by fast enough...
I'm from Philly, but Dean and my paths crossed once. On July 22, 1985, I was preparing to tee off at Riviera C.C. in L.A. Three men were playing a scramble and their last hole was the first. My two playing partners and I allowed them to play through. It was then that I saw a frail man getting out of the golf cart was Dean. He was my mother's favorite and I was going to ask if I could get a picture with him for my mom. But I didn't. He was so frail. It would have hurt my mom to see him looking like that. He still had a beautiful golf swing. My playing partners knew Dean as a member of the club and said Dean preferred Riviera over Bel Air as all the celebrities were at the latter, and Dean preferred to play with regular people. Classy.
Yeah, those guys live hard. Smoking and drinking every night and they never exercised. It was a different era. SDJ was dead by 65 from smoking and in Dean's late shows he would struggle for breath if he moved around too much. Frank's daughter talks about how frail he was in the end and it was shocking to her. Lesson learned guys. Don't smoke. If you drink moderate. Exercise. This is the most important thing you can do to keep yourself independent
Dean never got over his son's premature passing. This interview shows that... and how he went downhill afterwards. He was not the same guy. Humble, yes he was. He was always Steubenville, Ohio.
Agree completely. He did not get over his son's death. It occurred when he was an old man. He spent his last few years looking at old films of happier times in his life. Dean Martin was a great singer (really great), and a damn good actor.
I KNOW IT ISN'T EASY! I've had some very tragic shit happen to me as well losing both my parents when I was very young. It took decades to really get over it. My point was what physically killed Dean was his lifestyle, it had nothing to do with his son dying. He was going to continue smoking and drinking either way. That's just what he did and entertain people! :)
I had a crush on Dean Paul from about age eleven onward. I was driving to the grocery store when his death was announced on the radio. I had to pull over and stop because I'd begun to cry. My three little kids were in the car and were naturally enough frightened I'd begun crying for no apparent reason. I just told them I'd heard on the radio an old friend had died. This was accepted and we went to the store. But, I still miss him.
Grief is a terrible hole one can't get out of: this man lost his parents and his brother in the span of 18 months and the death of his son really finished him off. He was a born entertainer and an incredible singer with a voice that will forever be a reminder of his greatness. When I die I will go looking for him to give him a hug
I always liked Dean Over Sinatra Dean had more Class , Than Sinatra & was a better Actor & a special way in which he Delivered a song also may he RIP & is missed by all of his Fans.
What a singer he was on his day! And he was a good actor! To my recollection he was nominated once for a Supporting Actor award for his performance as a drunk cowboy with John Wayne in a movie Rio Bravo a Western. I miss his TV program on the 70's. He used to bring the best singers, actors of that time. I miss him very much!
Dean Martin was always a very underrated actor. Probably my most favorite film his is The Silencers and his character, super-spy Matt Helm. Played tongue-in-cheek and always non-plussed, it's a wonder example of Mr. Martin's understated acting skills.
Dean was one of the greatest of all entertainers and from this time (1987) one of the saddest. To lose a child is unimaginably appalling. And you can see it in his face. So sad. Still, we have the performances to remind us of a supremely talented man and yes that was his own unique hairstyle not a wig as someone wrote. We miss you Dean.
I adored Dean ..... just the perfect entertainer ..... such warmth, charm & an abundance of talent ....plus....a modest man .....god rest your soul Dean .
Dean Martin was such a joy to watch on his TV shows and performing in Las Vegas. He was a sweet, sexy, multi-talented man. When Dean Martin Jr. died, that was about the end of Dino. He will always be respected, and always missed.❤️
@@shadrach6299 Frank has some great songs however his attitude offstage was his main downfall for me. Sammy has one great song in my opinion. Dean was cool, there is nothing bad about him, and he had amazing songs. just an iconic performer
I love this interview Dean is so very Sweet and Fabulous I love his slow and easy voice thanks so much for Sharing this. It brings me so much joy and happiness

Magda Immel inderdaad mevr.Magda... Mister Dean recorded about 1000 songs and I think I know 999 of them🤔🙄🤥 King regards from Belgium Have a Nice day. Fabienne
Have a great weekend Fabiene en please call me Magda!
Have a Nice day Magda... veel groetjes uit Belgïe Zoersel,Antwerpen Fabienne
His talking voice here, the tone, word pace...as he spoke...he sounds like Groucho Marx when they would interview Groucho in his later years. I closed my ears and listened to Dean and I "heard" Groucho. Can't explain it. Even at the end when he was telling the interviewer it was one of the best interviews he ever had -- that deep gravel voice. Spooky. I feel sorry for Dean because he was always so enthusiastic, full of life and that was his style and approach almost throughout his career. This is interview is about eight years before his death. He seems out of it. The personality that was, wasn't there just the respectful man he was showed up. I believe the death of his son Dino changed Dean profoundly. Dean speaks like a man far older than 70. The soul is drained. He talks about the death of his son & Dean is being polite because he's a professional. But you can see that he is uncomfortable. I sincerely believe Dean "died" the day they told him his son was killed. I was always sad for him during this period. Concerned when he did disappear from the public eye. Always liked Dean even though he's not my generation. He was the epitome of cool...not the Beat Generation people. He had this confidence, the swagger, and humor. He knew it was all farce. never took it seriously. Dean Martin was and always will be...cool. I can't think of anyone in entertainment today who even comes close to this man's personality and style. None. RIP Dino...thanks a million for your variety show, your many roasts and your surprise walk-outs on Johnny Carson. I forgive you for putting your cigarette ashes into George Gobel's drink on one show. But that was one of the greatest unrehearsed bits I ever witnessed.
@@janeyd5280 his generation (and some today) wouldn't see counselling, they power through it all (as did previous generations too, but a big family is like one big counselling session - help is given to those who need it)...and the drink would help with it... Great interview by perhaps the most courteous interviewer I've ever watched, as she actually let him speak and finish his thoughts. Any Dean fans that haven't read 'Dino' by Nick Tasches should do so...it's a bit dark, but gives a good inside look at the real Dean Martin. By the point of this interview in '87, he was 70 and having some memory problems, and I'm sure his son's death didn't help. The fact that the interviewer was so patient with him made him at ease and willing to share. Even his ex-wife Jeanne claimed very few people got to know the real Dean, but this charming interviewer certainly shed some light on the "real Dean."
Something so somber about the whole interview. I'd still love to remember him as the quick-witted, composed, thorough Gentleman that he was. Miss you Dino.
what a beautiful beautiful clip. he truly was an remains a wonderful human being. I started to cry when he talked about his son passing. its just breaks my heart for any parents to have to suffer suck a loss of a child.
thebullybuffalo Oh, come on now, it's perfectly clear that this was just a typo and dinovilles meant to say 'such'. At least a dozen other people understood that and ticked 'like' to show that they appreciated his/her heartfelt comment.
It breaks my heart for the family's tragedy and for the fact that his son's death and the cigarettes killed Dean Martin, a real American Entertainment SUPERSTAR +++++++++++
@@ganais5111 It's normal to carry on, doesn't mean you didn't care. When I lost my brother I carried on and honestly, every single day I was...'In my own world', but honestly you have to carry on. Dean did, but unfortunately he wasn't going to come out of it.
you don't age because of a death. you may get less healthy because you are not exercising and become a hermit because of a loss. Does that ages your skin.....only if you are pounding drinks down nightly.
@@dabneyoffermein595 pounding drinks? unless you were in Mr Martins company you really shouldnt speculate on his drinking habits. He didnt age because of death, death kills you, he aged because of LOSS and grief. Lack of good nutrition, exercise, hydration, depression, etc can have an effect on ones appearance and health. Falling into a depression is devastating and some people dont recover from it. From some of those actually close to him they have said in interviews the man imploded following his sons death.
Charming interview. Very poignant and special. Would have loved seeing him live You realize how. Genuine and Charming he was. Thank you for posting. Hung on to every precious moment ♥️😢
Dean Martin was absolutely likable. No, I didn't know the man personally, but I didn't have to , to be able to see it. He was a great talent and will never and can never, be replaced.
Good job by the host, she was very kind and respectful. In his prime Dean Martin was a very special talent, he could do it all. Thanks for the memories Dino, we miss you.
For the remaining 8 years of his life, Dean never got over the loss of Dean Paul (aka Dino) Thanks for the great memories in both films, TV shows and records (favorite song :In the Misty Moonlight)
John Martin They broke the mould when they made the entertainers of that generation, Dean, Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Perry Como and so many more. (and not just the entertainers. I know that I couldn't have survived all the hardships my parents , who were of the same generation as Dean, had to endure; the last years of WWI with the terrible loss of almost a whole generation of young men, The harsh Depression years, and then WWII.) The world has moved on since their time, and though we have made many advances, sadly I feel that we have also lost an awful lot in the process. Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could somehow combine the best of both that era and the one we are living in now? An impossible dream I know.
@@jrbancroft4160 agreed! and in today's music, I hear ambulance noises in the background thinking there is an ambulance passing by me! I wish I was around during the golden era!
elvicare35 I love at the beginning he says that he is only here at the Palladium because "that where all the big stars perform" It's almost like he thinks he's not worthy to be on the same stage as the other stars he names, although he was at least as big as them, if not even bigger. That's one of the (many) things I love about Dean, that he was, as you say, always humble and I don't think he ever really understood just how huge and well-loved star he was. He certainly never forgot his humble beginnings, or how lucky he was that his life could have turned out so differently. (As he often said; "Who'd have thunk it, for a boy from Stuebenville Ohio?") And you're right, for all the tragedy that was going on his life at the time, he never lost that legendary charm! Kudos too for the lovely empathetic interviewer, who asked her questions, especially about Dean Paul, so kindly and gently and wasn't at all pushy.
Linda Shelley I agree. He even said iT was his best interview and at the end laughed ....not his famous laugh like before... but at least a laugh...but he Seems a broken man....and he was... so sad... kind regards from Belgium Fabienne
Fabienne De Pauw I know, the expression on his face when she brought up the subject of Dean Paul @7.08 just broke my heart. I'm sure they must have cleared it with him before the interview whether he was prepared to discuss it , but he was clearly still struggling and like he said "when it hits home, it eats you up" As a Mum myself, I can't even begin to imagine the pain that he (and Jeannie too, of course - she once said in an interview after the accident that she "would never know pure joy ever again") was going through. No parent should have to endure a loss like that, especially one so kind and gentlemanly as Dean.
Linda Shelley I agree Miss Shelly ,I saw the interview too with Jeanne when She spook those words...and I understand I am a mom too.. The stress on my mental health and looks were destroyed by the death from cancer of my happy marriage, after my husband passed I ages many years and lost all the pretty in me, I became a frumpy looking middle aged women from a very pretty girl, grief can destroy you , a death of a close loved one is the hardest thing to happen to your life, mostly besides a mate. A child, I was lost two but as. Very young girl I was able to make it without turning into an old lady like I did when I lost my husband,I just turned forty snd still very pretty but his death made me look about sixty a d I lost my monthly time, grief depending on a person’s personality can have drastic effects
God bless Dean. I was privileged to be one of 8 backup singers on his TV show for 6 wonderful years. He was so delightful to work with, just a great guy, no star ego. I miss those years and have wonderful memories. RIP, Boss.
Nobody like him, ever before or after.
It's so nice to know that someone you love and admire turns out to be a nice guy! Thanks for sharing!
Diana an Honor to meet you...What a privilege you had💐💞
Now that I know, I watched you on NBC every Thursday nights on his show in 1965. Thank you. Great memories.
That’s awesome Diana! So cool to be able to communicate with someone that knew him in 2022.
What a lovely, gentle interview by Jayne Irving. She made Dean feel so comfortable & was not intrusive at all!
Loved at the end of the interview when he said “this has been the nicest interview I’ve ever had”. She really did do a great interview.
Cause she's English and not American lmao

In reality he almost ended the interview when she asked him about Jerry Lewis.

Excellent job by the interviewer. She asked interesting questions and then let Dean answer without interrupting. Not easy for most ego driven talk hosts. RIP Dean
Steve F - Until the early 90’s, most interviewers were quite humble. Not all, but most. As well as were most very famous people.
She did a very good job
Steve F I was thinking the same thing. I’ve never seen a better more compassionate interview than this. Sadly, they’re all gone now.
@@TruthSayer2007 Yeah you looked at TV history and decided "Yep here's where they stopped being humble" Calm down Mr. History. You'd probably next say they stopped making real music already and then say something like "They don't make them like they used to" Lol.
@James Henderson what do you know about that?
"This has been the nicest interview I've ever had from a pretty lady"...Dean Martin was a class act and the interviewer was so compassionate and sweet...God bless them both...most enjoyable to watch
What a sweetheart. I almost wanted to cry when he talked about his son. (And the interviewer was excellent.)
I really became a Dean fan when I found out he stood up for Marilyn Monroe during her troubles while they were shooting her last movie together, Something's Got To Give. He threatened to bail on the project if they replaced her. That made me appreciate the humanity of the guy.

He had many affairs, and he funded terrorism.
Dean Martin funded terrorism.
I think the death of his son obviously affected him greatly, but I also have a feeling he must have had a stroke or been on a significant amount of pain killers during this interview because his speech was significantly slower and more ponderous than just a few years previously.
He was a life long smoker, which clearly affected his pep.
My parents lost their daughter within 6 months of her having a tiny, persistent cough.
Dean Martin was an incredibly generous man. I know people in upstate New York that knew him, and they told me of his generosity. He came from humble beginnings, achieved great success and never let it get to his head.
The mannerism of a man will never be repeated. his generation is missed.
I had never seen this guy serious for 2 seconds, but here with this sincere interviewer and with more gravity in his personal life, Dean really opened up and was sober minded.
He seems like he's medicated. Can't imagine the pain of losing his son. What an elegant man. So sorry for his suffering.
@King Royal bullshit.
@King Royal oh that's strange. When I was at your house last week you told me it was your father that funded the attack.
Dean Paul was a perfect combination of Dean and Jeannie.
How would one get over the death of your child?
At best, you learn to keep going & hold them in your heart.
She's one of the best interviewers I've ever seen. RIP Dean, always will be missed and cherished.
Probably the most under rated star of all time... Dean Martin (actor, singer, legend)

He was a man with Class. Love you Dean Martin.
Great guy!
Everybody loves somebody sometime & Welcome to my World! Remember watching his show with my parents!
People say Sinatra was the best singer but I think Dean had the better voice by far. His natural vibrato and smooth sound was beautiful...so melodic. I loved him in Rio Bravo and the songs he sang in it. Yes, to me, he was the better of the two.
ABSOLUTELY
I so agree. Dean was by far the better singer than Frank & much handsomer.
I thought all of Sinatra's rivals had superior voices.
Bing Crosby was the best voice ever, Dean was next, then Frank!
jn wd Sinatra had NO voice compared to Martin. Sinatra was also too involved with the mob.

Great talent and a NICE MAN. What more can you say?
gentle and nice he WAS, but he had bare knuckle fights for money in his youth...read his full bio, he had many facets.
victor was right His youth was a different story. People grow and change. The Dean Martin that we all know and love was a charitable and generous man, one who was a great friend and family man. That is what is important.
The death of his son devastated him. All the spark left him.
You are exactly 100% right...I read that, after his son's terrible accident...he was "never" the same...My father...growing up.. treated me like crap. I totally relate to your story, my Dad was abusive to my Mother my older brother and younger sister, both physically and emotionally.
His haunted
eyes tell the real story of the extent of his grief.
Don't forget Jean. That was her son too.

Len Hummel Yes, indeed. He was never the same when his son died in that crash; his soul died that tragic day.
Dino said it himself in this interview. When a death happens close to home ... "It eats you up"! I truly believe he could not get over the death of his son and honestly believe he grieved himself to death. He was a great entertainer and he has been sorely missed and will continue to be.

On that Christmas Day in 1995 I feel like he finally just gave into his sorrow & left this earth because he couldn't bear it anymore without Dean Jr. For me Christmas Day is both glad...& sad. The grief and emotion in his voice and his facial expression is so evident in this interview. Such a lovely interview, it made me cry. Thank you for posting this clip. Grew up with my parents listening to Dean, Frank and Elvis.
Classy.
Wow, what a great story! Thank you for sharing
wow did go shake his hand & say Hello James? he was Aging dog yrs after DeanPaul died indeed
At just 68, two years before his son's death? He looked frail?

Dean never got over his son's premature passing. This interview shows that... and how he went downhill afterwards. He was not the same guy. Humble, yes he was. He was always Steubenville, Ohio.
Agree completely. He did not get over his son's death. It occurred when he was an old man. He spent his last few years looking at old films of happier times in his life. Dean Martin was a great singer (really great), and a damn good actor.
Yea, but it was Lung cancer and emphysema that actually killed him.
Don't be rude! Dean's son tragically died when Dean was only 60 and that ain't OLD!!!
That is I mean, Dean was 70 but - same applies!

Het is fijn om te zien dat Mister Dean over gans de wereld gekend en geliefd is.
Gelukkig is er UA-cam waar we heel veel van zijn songs kunnen beluisteren.
Mister Dean recorded about 1000 songs and I think I know 999 of them🤔🙄🤥
King regards from Belgium
Have a Nice day.
Fabienne
Have a great weekend Fabiene en please call me Magda!
Magda Immel Dag Magda... wat fijn dat we dezelfde interesse voelen voor " the man with the golden bariton"
Have a Nice day Magda... veel groetjes uit Belgïe Zoersel,Antwerpen Fabienne
I always have a Dean Martin CD in my car. It makes me feel good.
Me too brings back my Fathers Road trip memories
John LaStrada the George Gobel thing was hilarious 😂 and I agree, Dean died when Dean Paul did. :(
sounds like slurring to me
@@fonso1030 could Dean not have got counselling to help 😕 to cope with his grieving for his son.?
Yes
@@janeyd5280 his generation (and some today) wouldn't see counselling, they power through it all (as did previous generations too, but a big family is like one big counselling session - help is given to those who need it)...and the drink would help with it...
They were of their time and they owned every second of it...
So Jeanne became his ex wife. After all that leaving his first wife for the 2nd to divorce him
Something so somber about the whole interview. I'd still love to remember him as the quick-witted, composed, thorough Gentleman that he was. Miss you Dino.
One of the very BEST ever.
rest in peace Dean.
thank you for the memories.
Jim Lofaro I couldn't agree more. We all love you Dino. Rest in peace.
what a beautiful beautiful clip. he truly was an remains a wonderful human being. I started to cry when he talked about his son passing. its just breaks my heart for any parents to have to suffer suck a loss of a child.
dinovilles suffer suck?
thebullybuffalo Oh, come on now, it's perfectly clear that this was just a typo and dinovilles meant to say 'such'. At least a dozen other people understood that and ticked 'like' to show that they appreciated his/her heartfelt comment.
sorry its such a loss of a child. thanks for correction
It breaks my heart for the family's tragedy and for the fact that his son's death and the cigarettes killed Dean Martin, a real American Entertainment SUPERSTAR +++++++++++

They don't make them like that anymore, what a great man and entertainer.
Dean Martin is not the same man he was after his sons death and with good reason.... that is what aged him. RIP
I didn't realise Dean Martin performed so soon after his son's death or even that he performed at all.
@@ganais5111 It's normal to carry on, doesn't mean you didn't care. When I lost my brother I carried on and honestly, every single day I was...'In my own world', but honestly you have to carry on. Dean did, but unfortunately he wasn't going to come out of it.
@@ganais5111 exactly!
you don't age because of a death. you may get less healthy because you are not exercising and become a hermit because of a loss.
Why can't we have great interviewer like this great gal? She's amazing.
When he speaks he takes his time but I listen, it’s like the respect still stands even through the screen
Rest in peace, Dean and His Family. 🇩🇪💛❤️💛❤️💛❤️💛❤️💛❤️
Thanks for posting this excellent interview.
Great great man! everytime i see a new clip with him I start to smile.
We love him to 4ever :-)

Awwee.. 🥺 Dean Martin was such a sweet man, and he really appreciated the interviewer. Beautiful interview. ❤️
Such a sweetheart. A very gentleman. We love you Dino ❤️ R.I.H.
Thanks for the memories Dino, we miss you.
how could anyone cope with a loss like that. his son was such a beautiful man
I've never seen him interviewed at this age. He acts older than 70 here. Very fascinating. Thanks for posting.
R.I.P Dean we have missed you.
No...he did not drink himself to death. He died of respiratory failure.
For the remaining 8 years of his life, Dean never got over the loss of Dean Paul (aka Dino) Thanks for the great memories in both films, TV shows and records (favorite song :In the Misty Moonlight)
Where are the Dean Martin's of today....nowhere, I'm afraid....
I’m over here
The music today is stupid you can't understand a thing they say .
@@jrbancroft4160 no kidding.
@@jrbancroft4160 agreed! and in today's music, I hear ambulance noises in the background thinking there is an ambulance passing by me! I wish I was around during the golden era!
Never ever be another "Dean Martin" the guy was the best imo! They don't make em like that anymore! R.I.P Deano never forgotten ❤❤❤
Even in his old age his voice was smooth as silk. RIP Paisan.
Not that old here.70
Really great interview, and he's so genuine, humble and yes, charming!!!!!
elvicare35 I love at the beginning he says that he is only here at the Palladium because "that where all the big stars perform" It's almost like he thinks he's not worthy to be on the same stage as the other stars he names, although he was at least as big as them, if not even bigger.
Very nicely said!
But Jeanne was a very strong woman.. iT brook her heart too but iT did'nt brook her life... but Mister Dean melted down ..( like his grandson Alexander,Dean-Pauls Son)said in an interview.... After he retired he was going fishing with Alexander and Alexander said.. all of a sudden I felt his arm around my shoulder...
have a Nice life... kind regards from over the ocean ..Belgium Fabienne
He was only 70 years old here, but sadly he seems more like 85.

Rocked by his son's death and Grieving deeply.
@@robynconway1286 very very True..I was gut punched when it happened. Hard to believe next month will be 34 years. Miss him greatly 😢
Sounds exactly like anyone on narcotic pain killers or extremely tired, don't judge.
Deans first language was Italian, like my family. Loved him, had a huge crush when I was a kid. ♥️
