Stay strong few months and you'll be back to the progress where you left and even i enjoy squats and deadlift most and i can't even think if i can't able to do it. You are a strong guy with strong mindset. Good luck for the recovery process brother
I ruptured my Achilles tendon as well. Left leg just like you, When I was 24. I’m 28 now. Let me just say it gets better. You will go through a journey of ups and downs. Resilience and perseverance. You got this bro 🤘🏻
Hey Matt! I ended up rupturing my Achilles on the same day as you and am going into the exact same surgery in about 12 hours. Wishing you a speedy recovery and hoping that this road is easy for us both.
That is so crazy! I tore my achilles tendon 10 days ago and went on youtube to find videos of others who have had the same injury and experience. I came across your page and I was in awe. I am scheduled to get my surgery this upcoming week. These 10 days have been so challenging and emotional. Wishing that all goes well and that you have a speedy recovery.
Had exactly the same injury playing 7 a side footie few years ago. Like you I was in complete disbelief but you will come back stronger from this. Be interested in your next vids to see what physio protocols you follow, including ankle mobility (key for the squats!) and remedying any muscle atrophy. All the best mate and speedy recovery!
Matt is one of the reasons why I'm in a good shape right now this man is a big inspiration to me wish you a fast recovery mate once you're fully recovered our master is back
Officially on the road to recovery my man! I remember crutching it around for months and months when I had foot surgery. The doc imposed more non-weight-bearing time for me because he could see i was chomping at the bit. I crutched it to gym and everywhere else but had to get rides because my car was a manual and I couldn't press the clutch, haha. But I tell you what, those months of recovery allowed for some great introspection and realization that I had taken for granted the simple things in life. Like the ability to walk without impairment. Many don't have that privilege. Im sure you'll find great ways to utilize this downtime. YOu have our support from across the pond. Will be watching your recovery progression and rooting for you!
Being a student physio, this video and the last one has been super interesting seeing the entire surgery process of AT ruptures. Keen to follow your rehab journey, Matt!!
Crocodile facts from a high Matt is precisely the content I was signing up for. I hope you’re healing well and keeping mentally well following your surgery!
I’m glad your surgery went well, it’s all about the healing and physio from here on, continue to show us your gradual progression, your physiotherapy, certain exercises you are allowed to do, your good and bad days and how you are coping mentally, it’s all very interesting stuff and look forward to the day you are back to full fitness and lifting those weights 👍🏻🙏🏻
You are such a legend for stay so positive you will come back so much stronger I have been dionsied with a brain tumer I've got my op on Friday I'm nervous but seeing go though your surgery is giving me a boost thanks I have so much respect for you
Firstly good luck with your recovery, you seem to be in very capable hands. I fully ruptured my Achilles on my left ankle in October 2016 when playing squash. Like you, I heard a loud pop and thought id been caught by my opponent. I was really lucky with how things panned out. I went through the stages of pain, then denial before finally attending A&E a day later. Firstly I was seen by a junior consultant who advised me they couldn't operate as I'd ruptured it where it attached to my calf, the only option was a cast and hoping it would rep[air its self. As I was about to leave devastated the Senior Consultant returned from lunch and I was able to get a second opinion. He was amazing, advised he could operate and I was in a couple of days later, had I left 2 minutes earlier my life could be very different now. Within 2 months I was walking on it and now I'm a keen runner and cyclist. If anything I'm more active now than I was before the injury. I know it will feel a long and hard road ahead but arguably my left Achilles is stringer now than my right. Stick with it and you'll come back stronger.
The waffling was on point 🤣 loved the random crocodile info, never know when you might need that!! Now you've had the op you can focus on getting that recovery fully under way. Hope it goes quickly for you, I'm sure you'll be back up and going in no time 💪
The lovely surgery pants..... know them so well! I am 3 surgeries down but all local anaesthetic so far.... I am nervous for when they become General anaesthetic .... wishing you happy and healthy recovery
Techically recovery started when you got the plaster ;)... Get well soon mate 💪 and please don't rush too much with getting back to heavy activities so you dont fuck up with the healing and stuff 🙏
Wish you all the best buddy! Don’t rush the rehab process. Tendons have a poor blood supply, especially in the common rupture point. You will have great results following the operation if you undertake a sensible and patient approach to rehab! I’m a professional athlete and been through a similar experience. You cannot rush healing or believe you can accelerate rehab - its one step at a time, literally! All the very best!
Get well soon, I broke my fibular and tibia last weekend and had to have surgery, so I can loosely relate to you, horrible how things just happen! Wishing you a speedy recovery
I’m getting my operation today, did my Achilles a week ago!! Same as you though hardly any pain, I’m nervous but excited to get back on the journey to where I was before 😩
Your comeback starts now, Matt! Good luck with the recovery process; it will change your perspective on many aspects of fitness. We're cheering for you 💪🏼
Best wishes for a speedy recovery mate. New sub from Melbourne, Australia - finally committed to tracking my calories as a result of this channel and have honestly been in such a better way of life ever since. Big ups, stay safe - all the best.
I know this will sound crazy, but you got the better end of the deal. I have been carrying an achilles tendinopathy for over 2 years, no matter how many exercises, treatments, it does not go back to normal. You have taken a big step back, but it will definitely put you back on track faster than without surgery. Looking forward to your recovery and hopefully I can use some of it. All the best!
Got to push through the pain now in rehab. I had major surgery on my leg 3 years back and was in a wheel chair for 10 weeks but still had to pull my foot back to flex my Achilles and lift my knee so they didn't seize up. This is when the hard work really comes in!
I am so terribly sorry that this happened to you... but you know what? I am very excited to see your recovery videos. You are gonna kill and destroy this recovery Matt! Best of luck, see you on the next video!
As someone with an Achilles injury, (tendinopathy currently) and trying to heal, the thought of it getting worse and being a full rupture is very scary. Wishing you all the best. Felt so sorry for you with your many ramblings that i liked and subscribed :D
Hi Matt, I had the identical football related Achilles Tendon tear though 5cm in length. It ripped the hamstring as well! It was over a year before it started to feel ok again. It'd also be great to see how you go about getting back into the gym on crutches and what fitness/lifestyle changes you make as i'm cluelessly trying to figure that out myself
Any talk of breaking Squat records asap after surgery is a no no. You are exactly like I was when I ruptured my patella. The drive to get back quickly meant I was literally lying to physios about readiness to get on a treadmill and it ultimately hindered my recovery. Take the time out and allow it to heal. It will kill you psychologically, but for long term progress you really need to take things very slowly. It will come back very quickly once you've healed, but allow it to heal properly and listen to the physios.
