Perfectly said. Science based lifters just make working out so goddamn boring nowadays.
@@kia-soul9191 And most of them look like shait too haha.
@@amarkfitness that's the worst part of all; they try to workout 'perfectly' to maximize their gains, but they still look average
@@kia-soul9191 The point of the 'obsession' with exercise science is to not look average, even though most people are by definition.
@@malchir4036 Yeah, my point is that a lot of science based are constantly 'trying to fix something that isn't broken' - what I mean by this is that they try to look for new exercises or techniques to grow more muscle faster, when they're forgetting the main key factors when it comes to muscle growth: consistency and hard training (and resting ofc). By just doing the basic old school exercises, training hard and being consistent, you can get an amazing body shape without doing fancy bullshit.
"If you're doing it and you don't feel it, don't do it, do what you feel." "It's good to listen to other people, but in the end, you've got to find what works for." Thank you for this advice.
Had to turn the volume way up to hear this one, and then when my next video played, my eardrums got absolutely blasted through my headphones. Cheers Lee and Sam 😂
Thought it was just me 🤣
It's just when he's leaning away from the mic. It's okay, though.

I'm with Lee
Didnt see you there 😮
I think just about every lifter after their first year should understand that there is no 1 size fits all approach to form, and the "best excersizes". There are only guidelines. We are all built different, our form will be different, and which excersizes we respond to, or our joints/ligaments etc can handle, will always be different. Part of the journey is figuring yourself out and learning what you respond best to.
This comment of yours is possibly the most fundamental rule that everyone should be told about before they pick up their first weight. No joke it should be pinned at the top of all channels for Body Building (of any type) and Strength. It is a wonderful journey that takes you down the path of self discovery in every facet.
This is one of the reasons they call it The Temple Of Iron because you are learning about yourself mentally and physically and if you look at others around you, you start to see how different you really are in comparison to your peers.
@ShaunSilk-ew7cy Thank you, cheers 👊
Yep, and I think the other thing is if we're honest, 99% of people who walk onto a gym are never going to reach their genetic potential, nowhere near, because most give up way before then. Pick a training regime that you'll actually stick with, even if it's technically sub-optimal. A sub optimal regime that you do three times a week for ten years will get far, far more results than one that's 'perfect' that you keep up with for six months
1:58 and onwards 🔥
that's so smart and true, now that is experience, thank you guys! 💪
I'm so tired of Dr. Mike, go fail another comp and tell me how to lift bud
Mike is such a fake tough guy its laughable and all the science cant get him a better placement than 6th against amateurs
Genetics plays a huge role in how good of a bodybuilder you can become, don't think he tries to portray himself as a tough guy, you've been watching too much Greg doucette lol
Dr. Mike uses science literature for exercise to make decisions on how to optimally train while staying relatively big. He's probably more jacked than you are, has admitted he never stated he was the best at body building. You seem like the kind of person who would call a fish stupid for not being able to climb a tree
Yeah bad genetics
What Lee said here at about 2:30 was actually agreeing with Mike in the main, as in keep the tension, always keep the tension, and don’t lock out post contraction
This is so spot on. We never lock out on any movement. Always keeping the tension.
For sure. Everyone talks about lengthened partials causing more growth. That's because there's more tension, so obviously it might cause a greater stimulus, but you risk snapping your shit.
@ spot on. Even on preacher curls: it’s 3/4 of way down, no further. Did 10 sets yesterday pyramid up and down, few hammers to end. Amazing.
Lengthened partial on a preacher is one way ticket to hospital! It's only Dr Mike and Jeff Nipples who talk about that technique

Bodybuilding is 99% genetics
@@cannafarmerValid point although 99% is possibly a bit extreme. 50% maybe with the other 50 being diet, drugs, rest and recovery. Just Google lee in the off season when he ate nothing but KFC etc. his genetics didn't stop him being as fat and out of shape as anyone else. Easier to get back into shape with good genetics though.

Mike and his business is the biggest grift in lifting.
After watching Cutler, the real answer is that pro bodybuilders will do whatever works for them and they are really beyond criticism. The judges decide, Not the weight or the technique.
You really should listen to Doctor Mike at the start, because you shouldn’t just copy Mr Olympia without any context. 💡 But once you’ve been doing a while without plateaus, Mike will be the First to say do whatever is working.
like lee priest respond.. he take it positively and like he said "in the end got to find what work for you..." yup.. that's right
I think I missed the part where you critique dr. Mike critiquing you…?
Common sense and truth from Lee yet again...a blokes bloke, cheers mate 👍🇬🇧
I trained with Mikes RP style aproach for 2 years and pretty much had very minimal gains. I used to do old school Bodybuilding in my teens, and with RP training I basically only got the muscle mass back. Inspired by Lee, Markus Ruhl and Jay Cutler I switched back to high volume old school bodybuilding. Since doing 20 sets per muscle group minimum like Lee suggests I have made more progress in 3 months than in 2 years of RP style training.
Lees advice is very important. Listen to different perspectives and find what works for your body.
@@Jo8Nathan have to do what works for you. I follow Jay Cutler’s advice on almost everything. 8-12 reps, never lock out. Some cheating on movements. Lotsa volume. Works for me. Cheers.

True i see the same in myself if you ego also big markus rühl fan when you Understatand german he even has a lot of vids explaimg basics from Training
20 sets per muscle group per week is entirely in line with the the Schoenfeld 2017 meta-analysis everyone always references. RP also has videos about individualizing training. where is the contradiction?
Mike advocates around 20 sets per week per muscle group. You aren't making much sense
Love you, Lee! You’re a living legend. It was a pleasure meeting you a couple years ago
Mike is the antithesis to Lee. Mike, especially his physique needs a little critiquing if you ask me.

not trying to be that guy but look at Lee Priest and look at "Dr" Mike Isratael. Who do you think knows more about training, Smh
100% Mike, his whole channel is based on how to train. Lee surely knows a lot more than me or you. But this is just how genetics work.
it's absolutely crazy how people can not see the value of mike israetel and renaissance periodization. when mike critiques steroid using mr olympia competitors, he does it with the intention of teaching people who are new or amateurs to the sport. mikes approach is a good blueprint for everybody that has problems gaining or feeling musles. i made lots of improving since i started watching his stuff.
True, people in this comment section don't even realise that Mike is praising Lee's training whole video
Why doesn’t Lee priest do a critique of mikes physique. What a 🤡..
Mike is great and knowledgeable.
Lee is very talented so I think most scientific approaches are not of much use. It's like being a genius and talking to somebody who gives you insight into learning math in optimal manner - it does not really matter unless you're approaching problems way out of league of even good mathematicians.
What Lee has always done right is appropriate weights and volume - combined with his talents it was exactly what he needed.

Lee is 100 percent correct on doing the exercises that you feel the most. Barbell curl over dumbells for me but cable rows over barbell or dumbell rows. Barbell hacksquat ( behind back) or cable squats brignole style for quads given what i feel and injuries. It just makes sense and is sound advice.
Interesting in the comments how people who definitly never watched and understand a video of dr. mike are have a strong opinion on him. He ownly rosts if you are doing really idiotic sh*t. Otherwise he critiques really fair and adds the scientific "right" way to do it better, or diffrent, but he also adds that there are several reasons to individualize the ROM or the technique etc. He just want us to know, whats the best practice would be, beacause if he wouldnt, you just would train like people who do it in other ways because you think thats the only correct answer to the question.
True
I lost all my gains when I trained with Dr Mikes philosophy. When I changed over to Lee’s method my arms and quads grew 2 inch. I put 1 inch on my calves.

So true!👌👌
Critiquing Lee’s form is wild to me because he has pretty textbook perfect form by anyone’s (except Mike’s) measurement. Kinesiology is, formally, such a new field that it should all be taken with a grain of salt. It’s developing constantly and we have yet to solidify evidence of any specific technique being the best way to build an athlete, especially since most studies about performance and muscle building are so full of holes and so limited they can’t be considered evidence at all.
Dr Mike is mostly just a clickbait snake oil salesman. Like Lee always basically says during all his Q&As, just go to the gym and be consistent. Pick some things you like to do and do them. That’s genuinely the only proven way to improve.

When is Lee going to be back in the states
I love these vids and this channel but was a little confused at the "response". I thought we would watch parts of Mike's vid and have Lee talk about it. The video ended and I was like what did I just watch here
I am not a professional bodybuilder. I am 39 years old, work 9 to 5 in an office and go to the gym whenever I can.
Science based lifting means to me that I don't have to waste time with bs when I can get the same or better results in shorter time just by following scientifically proven methods. It's also much safer. I don't recover as quick as a 20yo bro and have old injuries. "JUST LIIIFT" is not good enough for me.
Since I am following Dr. Mike's and Jeff Nippards advice, I feel better and see great gains.
Full range of motion, when doing high volume stuff, can cause more joint and tendon issues. Just as going slow on the eccentric (negative) portion of the lift can cause excessive muscle damage when doing high volume stuff, that would prolong recovery, which is why the tempo is faster, almost letting the weight go as fast as it was lifted. In the offseason, when bulking, using lower volume, many would use a slower eccentric. Lee's tempo here was more controlled. I'm referring to if you actually see that happening with a bodybuilder, usually, even just naturally without even thinking about it, they use a faster tempo with less focus on eccentric.
I find the same principles at play...I LOVE STANDING CABLE CURLS...I hit around 90 lbs...nothing crazy 🤪 till failure reps. The constant tension is the best part for ME...I'm never sore the next day...NEVER but I always am AFTER straight bar curls...SO does that mean I'm better off doing ONLY standing Olympic straight curls!? I would hope NOT!
You know what they say those who can’t Jew I mean do teach! Mike can never do what Lee has done!!!

Bodybuilding is art, not science.
Not liking science doesn't make it any less true.
@ science is a error latest status
Actually its both. It’s mainly exercise science involving growth of muscle tissue through tension. Science also comes into play in figuring out new ways that the muscle tissue grows and it has made a discovery recently that the muscle grows most in a stretched position. The art is in sculpting the body to make it proportional and aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
@ Even bodybuilder 50 years ago knew this already. Just by try and error over years. That’s the real science.
