well, I was ready to take my 2001 Chevy Silverado to the workshop to have the oil pump changed, my truck had zero oil pressure every day in the morning and after driving it for about 30 minutes it went up to 40, after seeing Your video came with my mechanic and I asked him to do that specific procedure, the cost was $ 260 including parts and labor, now the oil pressure is 40 when turning on and when driving rises above 60 or more, the noise of The lifters are gone, the engine works very still and silent I am very grateful to you, God bless you.

I changed the engine oil in my 2013 GMC Sierra a week ago. I've had this truck for over two years and have grown accustomed to where the oil pressure guage rests throughout the warming cycle and normal operation. This time I used the usual Pennzoil 5W-30 Platinum Full Synthetic along with a new-to-me ACDelco PF48E filter that was available locally. I usually have a couple Wix 57060XP on the shelf but had run out and couldn't find one locally. I drove to work the next day and at the first traffic signal I noticed my oil pressure guage reading a bit lower than usual. The truck is usually at 30-35 PSI idling in drive and 40-45 driving at 1.5k-2k RPM. But now it was 18-20 PSI idling and 22-26 PSI while driving. I started watching YT videos trying to diagnose the oil pressure issue myself. I added a drop of Lucas Oil Stabilizer, no change. I dropped the oil pan (pain in the rear) and changed the fabled o-ring, no change. I bought a new oil sending unit. Before replacing that I decided to pause and ask... WHAT CHANGED? AHH. The oil filter was a different brand. Maybe that's it?! This morning I climbed under the truck with a drain pan and swapped out the brand new ACDelco PH48E with a brand new Wix 57060XP filter. Topped off the oil and started the truck up. Dog gone it! The truck was BACK to the normal oil pressure readings of 30 - 45 PSI. I don't know if the new ACD PF48E had a bad check valve or the media was too restrictive... Fellers, if you find yourself parts-cannoning after a similar situation stop first and ask yourself: WHAT CHANGED? I'm relieved that my truck isn't busted and it was a simple oversight. I hope this helps someone out there.
I have a 2010 tahoe that I just bought with 176k miles on it. Ran perfectly. I had about 500 miles on it and one day I was driving it to work and lost almost all oil pressure. Lights and sounder going off telling me to shut the engine off. Well I limped it home, prayed and it didn't appear to be the oil pressure sensor as it was moving up and down in proportion to rpms. So I'm like. Well I haven't done an oil change in it myself and it was due. Did the oil change with mobil1 and a quality filter and my pressure went from barely above zero to 40 psi at idle. Drove it for an hour after that and it ran at 40 psi around 1600 rpm. I'm like was it the filter. I think it was!
IVE HEARD ITS THE FILTER. I NORMALLY GO TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE OIL CHANGES BUT I WILL DO THE NEXT ONE MYSELF AND USE A WIX FILTER. IVE ALREADY CHANGED THE SENSOR
Excellent tip! Great video. It worked perfectly. My 05 GMC, with 315,000 miles, now has more oil pressure than ever before. It also silenced the lifters which I was fully expecting to change. I think I'm good for another 100,000. Thanks!
I'm glad I read your comment. My 4.8 is making a lot of noise. It's making that "ticking" noise. I think I need to do this before I go messing with the heads. Thanks
This finally fixed my 2010 GMC Sierra after changing the oil pressure sender 3 times in 5 years. Thank you! No more tapping when the engine is cold either!
My 2010 5.3 has 183,000.I changed the sending unit last year but didn't change the screen under it.I just had to change it again, this time changed the screen too.Mine is a 4x4,hope I dont have to do this.

I have a problem with my old when it gets hot it loses my old pressure and I checked the old pump and I checked the crank Berry and I don't know what it is I would like to know what it could be it's on the S1095 Chevrolet I asked somebody to contact me and let me know if they can tell me what it is it's an engine's been revealed it would blow up rebuilt the engine and the block looked good when he rebuilt it but now we got it apart and we just don't know
Good information, thanks for actually taking pick up tube out and showing us the o ring was still complete but brittle. One thing to keep in mind in this two wheel drive chevy it was easy to take off the oil pan, in a four wheel drive it would be a longer task since would have to lower differential.

My 2007 Silverado 5.3L, 300k was having a loud popping noise when cold and whistled. Then oil pressure gauge ding-ding warning! "Low oil pressure, turn engine off". Mechanic replaced deteriorated O-ring on the oil pick-up tube at the oil pump. So far, so good. No Jiffy-Pop!🙏
The first time this happened to my truck I was taken to the cleaners. I spent $2500 for new lifters, seals etc. Probably needed it though as I was pushing 150k. Almost three years later it started dropping again today - It would slam to zero not just when I stopped but when I was driving - with low oil pressure light coming on telling me to shut engine off. (2007 Silverado 5.3 Z71 LTZ - NBS). I pulled the oil pressure sensor out, then pulled the small filter out underneath it. Cleaned it up, put it back in with same sensor and its been good ever since.
The top half was ok. It was the bottom half of the filter that was dirty and was clogging the filter. I wonder if you could get away with completely removing the small filter all together?
Thanks so much for posting this video! My oil pressure in my 2012 Tahoe was idling between 18 & 20 and sometimes down to 10. It would go up to 40 if you hammered the gas or when it first started but then back down to 20 or less. We tried replacing the oil pressure sensor first with no change. So we found this video and gave it a shot. Our o-ring didnt look near as bad as the one in the video. However, it was a lot less pliable then the new one. And it did snap in half after messing with it for a bit and we could see it was starting to dry rot. Needless to say, we replaced it and my oil pressure idles just below 40 like when we bought it. When accelerating, it gets bup above 60. It is running so much better! Again, thank you for sharing this!!

Oz Mechanics I have a question for you if you would be able to answer it. I have an 03 Silverado with a 5.3 the oil pressure goes up and down. When it goes down the motor knocks when it goes up the motor stops knocking are you saying my pump isn’t bad and it could be this little o ring thanks in advance
I change the oring on my 2013 chevy silverado , I was scary because the old oring looks good to me but big difference wen put everything back the pressure oil its 35 to 50 thanks to this video 👍🏼
Just did this job a few months ago. The o ring gasket was still ok but the pickup tube was clogged. Cleared it and replaced the o ring just for the hell of it and it solved the problem
I appreciate the video. I think you just saved me a lot of time and money. My 4.8 is making a "ticking" noise. I was going to pull my heads off and start changing parts but i think I'll try this first before i do anything drastic. It only has 220,000 miles on it so I don't think it's ready for rebuild yet. I want to get every last mile out of this motor.
@@OzMechanics I definitely will. I'm too broke right now to change my oil and replace the o-ring on the pick up tube. I'll let you know as soon as this white privilege thing kicks in and I can actually afford it. Jk I'm done waiting for that shit. I'll let you know as soon as I can get it done. Thanks again for the video.
Excellent video, what a strange design. Engineers had to know this would be an issue, I wonder why they crossed the line and made it anyway. And I wonder how many cars died before diagnosis.
Thanks for the info. Before doing that procedure, I recommend removing the Oil Sensor and be sure the screen beneath it is clean. Then check to see if that cures the problem. Cheap Oil Change places also use an inferior filter that voids warranty I am told. Only GM filters can be used on Engine and Tranny to maintain Warranty coverage.
I was losing a quart of oil a day on my Ford van (3 speed clutch). I put one can of rear main seal stop leak in it, and complained to NAPA the product was junk. (Smelled like vodka too). He said it always takes two of them. So I put another one in. It worked. It never leaked again. It softens and expands old rubber parts without taking anything apart.
rapturous day yea the (snake oils ) tend to work sometimes. But in the end of the day it’s basically a bandaid. Hope it last I had a customer that put the head sealer and it lasted a good 2 1/2 yrs
A temp fix is to add some AT-205 reseal to swell up the o-ring and give it better oil pressure. My 5.3 had loud tick and knock, after adding some reseal to oil the knock and tick is gone. This temporary fix will allow me to save up some money to have oil pan gasket and o ring replaced.
wow super cool makes sense, great stray analogy. My Suburban was on 0 pressure, but after I changed the oil (truck was sitting for 2 years) and put some lucas in it, the knocking stopped on lifters and pressure was restored.
Me and a few friends replaced my pickup tube with this o ring and my oil pump on my 06 Silverado 5.3 with 140k miles. The o ring was just as bad as this. In fact it was oval when you looked at it from the side after it broke when I took it off just like in this video. When we took the timing cover off to access the oil pump we noticed two bolts had backed out of the oil pump on the side that feeds the engine and were not even touching the oil pump! My oil pressure after we fixed these issues went from 8 psi @ idle @ operating temp to roughly 35-40 psi. This information was a huge help. I would recommend changing the oil pump if your going to change the pickup tube. It took about 10 hrs with 3 people. I would also recommend extensive research before doing this job. Do your homework!! Thank you!!!!!
To help diagnose this issue you could and a few extra quarts of oil and park the truck on a hill noise down so the “hole” in the pick up would be under the oil level.
This could be your problem indeed but if you want to be safe before going threw all this work I suggest checking your oil pressure sensor and filter. The filter is under the sensor In the same hole just stick something with a curved point in there, puncture the screen and remove. Put in a new one and check it out. The sensor is like 50 the filter is 5. Tools needed are 1 1/16 deep week socket, swivel adapter, extension and rachet. 30 mins tops
Thanks for the video. I have a 2010 Chevy Silverado that started dinging and low oil pressure flashing so I replaced the sending unit and it was fine for a week but doing the same thing now. I just turned 200 thousand miles so I'm gonna go ahead and replace the oil pump to.
air bubbles I oil from loose o ring can cause lifter noise or wipe out bearings also. Thanks In will check this. I have a few 5.3with over 250k no probs yet .
Thanks for this info! Just picked up my 06 tahoe from body shop and didn't get 2 miles before oil pressure dropped to zero and warning alarm goes off. Pulled over right away and cut off. Oil level ok, started back up and was at 40 again then within a minute started dropping right away. Had it towed to shop but trying to be informed before they look at it tomorrow. Normal lifter noise you hear when cold, esp if not running synthetic but other than that no issues. Hoping it's something like this.
I did the seal on my truck this week 100% accurate fixed the problem for everybody else that has an oil pump issues you probably waited too long to fix it.
I think I'm having a problem with this. Mine is a 2004. Oil pressure is fine when I first started up in the morning but it slowly loses pressure as I drive. Cutting the motor off and turning it back on helps for a little bit.
I need to replace the olive green one that GM fitted into my LS1 engine in 2002 with this one Holden sells as default :- 12557752 It is a light blue coloured one,I know GM had issues with them splitting in their Gen III onwards V8 engines even from the factory. Mine isn't split but I am doing a Hydraulic lifter change & I've replaced the timing chain so I had to remove the oil pump. I didn't drop the sump ,I just removed the timing cover & oil pump,it is a bit tricky but. I think that GM must've revised the o ring as I mentioned they have had troubles with them splitting particularly when they are too big.
Just dropped my oil pan and pulled the pickup tube in a 5.3L Suburban, which just dropped out with no resistance (the pickup tube) as you show in your vid. Mine had a green o-ring in it that had, just a very slight, nick (1/6") taken out of the inside diameter. The o-ring was still malleable, even after 150K+ miles. This rig was having intermittent loss of oil pressure warnings. The warning occurred on cold start when the outside air temp dropped below freezing and on cold days when the rig was stopped on a hill. A local repair shop wanted to rebuild the engine, but that didn't seem right, even though I trust that shop. After doing some research I discovered there was a "service bulletin" put out by GM for this o-ring (#02-06-01-038 - (Dec 2, 2002)) about this issue. The service bulletin revealed this o-ring may have had a small "cut" that could create problems early in the engines life. Well, this rig started having problems in more extreme conditions later in its life, due to this cut in the oil pickup tube o-ring.
Bad piston rod bearings caused my low oil pressure. On my older ford I had a backyard mechanic guy put in new lower rod bearing, oil pressure jumped right up. It was loud as hell at first because the air was still stuck in the hydraulic lifters.
@@OzMechanics i got a quick question for you, 2008 gmc savana 3500 4.8l 200k.... Low oil pressure starting (close to none) until it gets warmed up (30 min).... One: do you think this is probably the issue? Two: is it a pain to access/remove my oil pan? It's rear wheel drive.
Oz Mechanics Could this be the problem on my 2013 Silverado? The oil pressure never stays at 40 it always goes below especially after the engine warms up. Just recently I had a code pop up saying the oil pressure sensor was bad. I already replaced the sensor and the little filter inside where the sensor goes, but my oil pressure is still fluctuating and I’ve noticed it gets pretty close to 0.
I have 2 2001 suburbans. One lost total oil pressure on the interstate and locked it up. My other one has lower than usual pressure. I think i will check this out.
Hi, we have a 2004 yukon, 5.3, 235,000 miles, oil press drops to about 5-10 at idle, at 35-40 mph it goes up to about 25-30psi, replaced oil press. sending unit, no help. Hook up manual gauge to sensor hole? Assuming same reading with manual gauge I'll tackle the o- ring. I removed the oil Pan and changed the O ring and cleaned the pick up screen and still no help. The O ring was still very flexible and not all brittle and broken. Going to tackle the oil pump today. The oil Pan had very little if any sludge in the bottom of it which is encouraging.
My O-ring was flexible, but it was flattened. Replacing it worked for me. But I seen another video what are the pressure plunger in the oil pump becoming stuck can cause oil to flow back to the return which can drop your oil pressure significantly.
08 Chevy Silverado 1500 5.3 low oil pressure when I start up but later it Smoove’s out but continues to go up and down but my lifters starting to tick as well I was told the same procedures you just showed would fix my problems.
Loved it - Thank you! It would be awesome if you could also add the sparepart number. We are talking glazing, but since you've already made the cake....
Great video man. I'm trying to decide if I should replace the sending unit and don't know if 2006 5.3 Silverado LS has a filter under the sending unit or not! The shop gave me a rough estimate for replacing oil pump, sending unit and o-ring for 700-1000 dollars. I'm 67 with back issues and I think that's a fair price but on social security it's a lot of money. I'm going to look things over and see if I can replace sending unit and try that.
I have good oil pressure while cool engine but after in warms up and I come to idle my gauge for pressure will drop low and my light comes on and then will flicker on and off. No knocks or noises, can you tell me maybe why. I just changed my oil pressure sending unit as well.
I had the pressure switch replaced because it was showing below 40 psi (maybe in the 20s) but that was back in August and now I started noticing the pressure needle indicator sometimes fluctuates erratically from min to max but super very fast....like a lie detector needle.
Attempted this fix yesterday and initial results were spot on, no seal on the o-ring and it was split. Back up to 40 at idle immediately and seemed to be great. One day later and my normal pressure under throttle is at 20 and after 10secs or so at idle I get a low the pressure warning with the gauge dropping to zero. I had replaced the sensor and screen first before I saw you video. Any further advice before this do-it-yourselfer puts it into a shop? 2007 Chevy Tahoe LTZ 5.3 Flex 4WD 230K miles.
Bypass valve on the pump itself? If so, crap. Guess I should have replaced the pump while I had everything torn apart below. 4WD makes it a pain with no lift. When the valve sticks, is it a mechanical failure or more to due with sludge/ebris?
drewtitans on the newer yrs they have them on the oil pan close to the oil filter. It’s in the inside. Plus verify your pick up tube is clean as well on the screen side
So....I knew about this problem, thought it might be awhile before I saw it in the 05 Yukon XL I bought about 4 months ago, I've been dealing with a myriad of other sleeper issues popping up with the truck...pressure was holding pretty steady ever since I got the it at around 25-30 idling and 40+ at my usual 2-3k rpm with the thing cruising around the city like I do...today though (it would have to be on a Sunday) I got up and my usual run to the store and saw my first sporadic dip to around 10-15. How long do I have? Can I douse the thing up to its max fill level and hope to make it to my office meeting tomorrow and then to the GMC dealership after work? Also, once I actually get the O-Ring, can I pull the pickup tube off with the oil pan or do I have to pull the balancer and front cover off as well?
I have a 2010 suburban and the light came on, low oil pressure don't drive. I will try this. But I have P0302, P0303, P0304, and P0308. Have any idea what that could be? I changed the injectors for those cylinders and that did not fix the issue. I will be changing plugs and checking coil packs tomorrow. But you seem knowledgeable and thought I would ask is that no other video channel even answers the posts at all. Battling throat cancer and bills are killing me. I need my car to get to doctors or might be the death of me.
Pyde Piper sorry to hear what’s going on with you. For the low oil pressure, does the pressure stay all the way down when the light comes on ? Or those it go up with higher rpm’s ? As for the misfires that’s a hard one to check. I would look at fuel trims to see that. But you would need a scan tool for that
@@OzMechanics I will check today. I know that the fuse box got wet and caused alpt of electric parts including the starter to go bad. So it's not normal. I now know it's not the injectors. I knew it couldn't be 4 going bad at the same time.
What is considered low oil pressure at idle? ..serious question ..I have a random tick ..but the oil pressure is around 30 psi at idle ..trying to determine if I should disassemble the intake to get to the lifters ..or ..remove the oil pan ..for this O ring replacement ..or ..both? ..anyway ..good video ..
Hi I am get a check gauge light on my 98 oldsmobile bravada the oil gauge go up in down what can I it be can point me to the problem , thanks hope that you can help
Just happened to me today on my ‘08 Tahoe LTZ, on the way to dropping my girls at dance class! Scared the shit out of me! Alarm bell rings loud, tells you to shut engine off immediately! But once I did, checked my oil, started my truck, oil pressure is back up to normal! Don’t let a dealership, or some crooked mechanic tell you different! Thanks for the honest info on the ‘o’ ring bud, good stuff!👍👌😊
These " O-Rings " were made way before they better the " Rubber / Plastic ". Our got brittle, break easily, gummy, tearing with just a tiny squeeze. They are pretty common if you have older cars.... Including near the Oil Coolant Lines, etc....
If one were to tackle this job on their own, I assume you would need a new o ring and new gasket for the oil pan? Anything else (oil and filter change of course)

Had an '01 GMC 5.3 that had low/zero oil pressure at idle when cold. Problem turned out to be the o-rings at the back where the oil passes from the block to to the oil filter boss and back to the block. They were cracked and let oil leak from the oil pressure gallery to the other gallery, bypassing the oil filter.
Great video. Would you by any chance be making a video on how you go about removing the pan, etc? What tools and steps are used? I have a 2WD Tahoe PPV and it looks like there's a cross-member that may be in the way of the pan removal.
Greatly appreciate it my man. Looks a bit daunting but really need to get this done. Wish GM did something about this as there are so many vehicles affected by this problem.
Thanks man and there's no way I can have this be a 2-3 day job. I has to be a one day job LOL. I'm already catching heat from the wife for wasting time on a 'beater' and I can't close the garage door with it being on ramps/stands. I hope to get this done in about a few hours tops. Cheers.
T - I hammered this out this weekend. Extension bits are a must and impact driver was super useful. Had to also unbolt the steering rack (2 x 24mm & 2 x 18mm) to remove the forward bolts on the pan and drop the pan itself as the steering rack has 'hard lines' that will prevent the pan from dropping out. The OEM gasket is riveted onto the pan so you'll need to drill out the rivets to install the new gasket. The pick-up line for the pump is held in place with 2 x 13mm. It literally just slipped out the minute I unbolted it so the old O-ring was not making a good seal. Installed the new O-ring and rebolted everything right back up. Truck's way quieter upon startup and driving smooth.
Agreed wholeheartedly. Mine didn't throw any codes but it was an ex-police vehicle and I didn't want to take any chances. Greatly appreciate your vote of confidence on my doing the job. Cheers!
I think this is the issue I have as well. I got an 09 1500 Silverado 4x4. I just swapped the sensor tonight. It’s not throwing a code anymore but the oil pressure is sitting around 5-6 now. It used to be 40s when cold start and around 25-30 after warmup. So possibly need to do this o ring now? I have no knocking, engine runs perfectly fine. Just super low pressure now.
Could this be the problem on my 2013 Silverado? The oil pressure never stays at 40 it always goes below especially after the engine warms up. Just recently I had a code pop up saying the oil pressure sensor was bad. I already replaced the sensor and the little filter inside where the sensor goes, but my oil pressure is still fluctuating and I’ve noticed it gets pretty close to 0.
@@tipsreviews7476 yes sir I did once I replaced the O ring it fixed the problem. The O ring was literally like paper and ripped as soon as I touched it. Oil pressure did not stabilize right away though, it took me driving a few miles before I started to see the oil gauge move to the middle position. I’ve noticed it takes a while to stabilize after cold start, oil gauge moves up and down but after driving and at a stop position the gauge stays in normal range.
I'm having that same issues and what's crazy is that they just did an overhaul on my engine and it started to do that and so they changed the oil pressure sensor and screen as well and it's still doing it and so there going bro have to Check that O-ring and also the Oil pump and also was recommended by another mechanic that they can also check the Oil pressure with an Mechanical oil pressure gauge, hopefully they can find the problem because that oil pressure sensor comes on it's annoying....
Well called the Machine Shop and talked to the owner and told him what's going on and so tomorrow they want me to drop it off and there going to check all that that i had explained and hopefully they can resolve this problem cuz that Oil Pressure comes on and it's ANNOYING AS HELL , and thanks for that info and I will keep you informed as to what happened and thank you again for replying and also the video

@@Rea1_Madrid thank you very much!!
It just started getting cold where i live. My 01 5.3 is doing the same thing as yours. Time to tear it apart I guess

My 2010 5.3 has 183,000.I changed the sending unit last year but didn't change the screen under it.I just had to change it again, this time changed the screen too.Mine is a 4x4,hope I dont have to do this.
What engine you have in the gmc?

I have a problem with my old when it gets hot it loses my old pressure and I checked the old pump and I checked the crank Berry and I don't know what it is I would like to know what it could be it's on the S1095 Chevrolet I asked somebody to contact me and let me know if they can tell me what it is it's an engine's been revealed it would blow up rebuilt the engine and the block looked good when he rebuilt it but now we got it apart and we just don't know
Thank you very much from Russia. It helped me, Chevrolet Express 1500, mileage 480000 km. oil pressure is normal.
Good information, thanks for actually taking pick up tube out and showing us the o ring was still complete but brittle. One thing to keep in mind in this two wheel drive chevy it was easy to take off the oil pan, in a four wheel drive it would be a longer task since would have to lower differential.

I JUST HAD MINE DONE. WOW WHAT A DIFFERENCE, THE ENGINE IS SO QUIET NOW AND ALSO WE CLEANED THE OIL PAN AND PICKUP TUBE FILTER.
Ant Avil good the hear
How much was it?
How dirty was the filter ?
The top half was ok. It was the bottom half of the filter that was dirty and was clogging the filter. I wonder if you could get away with completely removing the small filter all together?
@@OzMechanics what is the part called , just an O ring? Where can I get the part and hats the proper name so I can get it from dealer
Again, thank you for sharing this!!
glad this video helped out

Oz Mechanics DID YOU HAVE TO DROP FRONT END?
Oz Mechanics I have a question for you if you would be able to answer it. I have an 03 Silverado with a 5.3 the oil pressure goes up and down. When it goes down the motor knocks when it goes up the motor stops knocking are you saying my pump isn’t bad and it could be this little o ring thanks in advance
I change the oring on my 2013 chevy silverado , I was scary because the old oring looks good to me but big difference wen put everything back the pressure oil its 35 to 50 thanks to this video 👍🏼
I just found the o ring you can get at auto zone it called oil pump inlet tube just 3.49 very cheap good luck
Cool thanks
Thanks for taking the time and posting this, I've been so frustrated with my Silverado.
When I change the orings now I started smearing silicone in and around the pipe joint as well, but on my own truck I used JB weld. It wont ever leak.
Don Rutter 😂
Just did this job a few months ago. The o ring gasket was still ok but the pickup tube was clogged. Cleared it and replaced the o ring just for the hell of it and it solved the problem
I appreciate the video. I think you just saved me a lot of time and money. My 4.8 is making a "ticking" noise. I was going to pull my heads off and start changing parts but i think I'll try this first before i do anything drastic. It only has 220,000 miles on it so I don't think it's ready for rebuild yet. I want to get every last mile out of this motor.
Awesome. Let me know what happens please
I have an 09 , 5.3L in my truck with about 150 k on her and so far so good
Thanks bro. My chevy tahoe was sounding like a freaking desil. I changed the o ring and sounds great now. Thanks to your advice.
Lezz Love no problem. Glad this video helped out
Straight forward with the issue on this engine, I like that because no one likes to actually fix this years 5.3s
2$ o-ring damaging 5k engine.
Eye opening video.
Thx
Excellent video, what a strange design. Engineers had to know this would be an issue, I wonder why they crossed the line and made it anyway. And I wonder how many cars died before diagnosis.
Thanks for the info. Before doing that procedure, I recommend removing the Oil Sensor and be sure the screen beneath it is clean. Then check to see if that cures the problem. Cheap Oil Change places also use an inferior filter that voids warranty I am told. Only GM filters can be used on Engine and Tranny to maintain Warranty coverage.
Gord Baker that is 100 % true. I had one that was completely clogged luckily that was the first thing I looked for
I was losing a quart of oil a day on my Ford van (3 speed clutch).
Yes but its NOT temporary! At205 does not ‘swell’ gaskets, it rejuvenates them.
I think this is solution to the exact problem I'm having! Thanks pal!
wow super cool makes sense, great stray analogy. My Suburban was on 0 pressure, but after I changed the oil (truck was sitting for 2 years) and put some lucas in it, the knocking stopped on lifters and pressure was restored.
If this is the problem with my avalanche, I love you so much!!!
Keep me informed
Thanks man, I'm having the same problem so I think that's what I will have to do with my truck
Did you ever fix the problem
Was it?
??? Any feed back?
The guy from America that is 100%. Doing your homework it’s the key
He literally said "in last video changed sensor"
Thanks for the video. I have a 2010 Chevy Silverado that started dinging and low oil pressure flashing so I replaced the sending unit and it was fine for a week but doing the same thing now. I just turned 200 thousand miles so I'm gonna go ahead and replace the oil pump to.
There is a small plastic screen under your sending unit that gets plugged.clean it or replace it
Thanks for taking the time to make this video 🙏
air bubbles I oil from loose o ring can cause lifter noise or wipe out bearings also.
Hoping it's something like this.
what did you ultimately have to do?
I did the seal on my truck this week 100% accurate fixed the problem for everybody else that has an oil pump issues you probably waited too long to fix it.
1-7-18... Video was straight to the point. Thumbs Up. 👍👍👍. Not like bs from masterautotech1. Keep up the great work, bro.
Thanks for this video bro. I am having low pressure problem and think this could be it
I Had the same problem with my 01 tahoe, you're right that will be the issue
I have a 07 yukon that's doing this now im putting a high flow oil pump in it this helped a lot
Awesome. Glad to hear
thanx for the advice im trying the pressure sensor first if not. that will be my next step nice video bro
Many times the oil pressure gauge either doesn't work or has a low number usually means the sensor is leaking w/o actually having to look at it.
I think I'm having a problem with this. Mine is a 2004. Oil pressure is fine when I first started up in the morning but it slowly loses pressure as I drive. Cutting the motor off and turning it back on helps for a little bit.
I need to replace the olive green one that GM fitted into my LS1 engine in 2002 with this one Holden sells as default :- 12557752
It is a light blue coloured one,I know GM had issues with them splitting in their Gen III onwards V8 engines even from the factory.
Love to see the whole process
Great video and info! Thumbs up as always!
i thought you were going to say something extremely very stupid and wrong with the straw analogy; but u pulled through, good job!
Yea the straw analogy was the one that crossed my mind. Made sense
Mitchell Wood I would start off with the oil sensor screen on those vehicles. Some get clogged up
@@OzMechanics thanks for reply. will do first.
THANK YOU GREAT EXPLANATION AND VIDEO!!
Just did this. It's holding 50 lbs at idle now. Thanks
Good to hear this
I have good oil pressure while cool engine but after in warms up and I come to idle my gauge for pressure will drop low and my light comes on and then will flicker on and off. No knocks or noises, can you tell me maybe why. I just changed my oil pressure sending unit as well.
I have this same issue now with my truck. Guess i gotta get the orings changed
Oh Wow,who showed you that. Im real proud of ya.
At work we use Lucas and it helped for a wiel . I kind of wondered if it might be the oil sump coming apart but i was just gessing
I had the pressure switch replaced because it was showing below 40 psi (maybe in the 20s) but that was back in August and now I started noticing the pressure needle indicator sometimes fluctuates erratically from min to max but super very fast....like a lie detector needle.
Straight to the point. Thanks!
excellent HONEST video! thank you
I bet the dealership hates university of UA-cam graduates.
No I don’t think so
Is there a video on the whole process?
Attempted this fix yesterday and initial results were spot on, no seal on the o-ring and it was split. Back up to 40 at idle immediately and seemed to be great. One day later and my normal pressure under throttle is at 20 and after 10secs or so at idle I get a low the pressure warning with the gauge dropping to zero. I had replaced the sensor and screen first before I saw you video. Any further advice before this do-it-yourselfer puts it into a shop? 2007 Chevy Tahoe LTZ 5.3 Flex 4WD 230K miles.
drewtitans on the newer one I replace the bypass valve. Actually just did one today that came from another shop.
Glad my 02 Blazer doesn't have this o ring. Still strong after all those miles.
This video saved my truck
Ty Manuel what is the part called tgat I'm looking for to do this replacement
It's the ring around the oil vacuum line I went to I would have to get the hole kit for a hundred and but all I had to do was just get the ring
My Yukon lost oil pressure, and even had a lifter taping. I replaced that oring. No more taping, and has great oil pressure.
That’s awesome hear buddy. It’s always nice to hear this video helps out others
Good video right to the point
I wonder if it's possible to add a 2nd o-ring as an insurance policy when doing this.
Great video thanks!

1:48 sounds like he’s having other analogies 😂
lmfao i was about to put the same comment
These " O-Rings " were made way before they better the " Rubber / Plastic ". Our got brittle, break easily, gummy, tearing with just a tiny squeeze. They are pretty common if you have older cars.... Including near the Oil Coolant Lines, etc....
2:00 minutes if the oil ring is bad it will have low oil pressure because of cavitation its sucking air
thank you so much for the info
If one were to tackle this job on their own, I assume you would need a new o ring and new gasket for the oil pan? Anything else (oil and filter change of course)
DavidKnut also the bypass valve on the oil pan and oil cooler gasket

Changed mine on my 07 Silverado, no more knocking, ticking and it has oil pressure like a new motor
excellent! had same issue.
Good dude. Good info.
Would that cause a misfire and light tap as well along with the low oil pressure?
Had an '01 GMC 5.3 that had low/zero oil pressure at idle when cold. Problem turned out to be the o-rings at the back where the oil passes from the block to to the oil filter boss and back to the block. They were cracked and let oil leak from the oil pressure gallery to the other gallery, bypassing the oil filter.
Great video. Would you by any chance be making a video on how you go about removing the pan, etc? What tools and steps are used? I have a 2WD Tahoe PPV and it looks like there's a cross-member that may be in the way of the pan removal.
Thanks alot for the reply. I'll be attempting this with ramps and jack stands so I hope it goes smoothly.
I have the same problem with my suburban. I thought i had to pull the engine to drop the pan. I have a 2001. Hope i can do this same fix.

Did you Get it fixed?
@@tipsreviews7476 yes sir I did once I replaced the O ring it fixed the problem. The O ring was literally like paper and ripped as soon as I touched it. Oil pressure did not stabilize right away though, it took me driving a few miles before I started to see the oil gauge move to the middle position. I’ve noticed it takes a while to stabilize after cold start, oil gauge moves up and down but after driving and at a stop position the gauge stays in normal range.
@@tipsreviews7476 forgot to mention that by doing this it also silenced the lifters witch I was considering changing before I replaced the O ring.
Thanks for the info. I have to keeps an eye on my oil pressure it's drops to 25-30 is that normal range?
Drops to 25 to 30 while operating temp at stops. Goes up to 40 while driving.
Great video sir.
