I think you should be ok even if you don’t use Teflon sealer. You could have a bad gauge or bad ground or connection? Does your oil pressure drop when the engine is warm?
When you told us of your career background....WOW....impressive as hell. I subscribed and look forward to learning. I replaced the oil pressure sensor on my 6.0 Escalade a few months back and today my 2003 Tahoe oil pressure gauge pegged. Here we go again. Semper Fidelis Dave Heitman

@@dustin3876 thank you and I agree. My Dad recently passed away and I was looking through his old Chilton book. I found a index card from 1982 where as a kid I’d drawn a picture and left in his manual. Made it even more valuable to me
Thank you for the helpful video! Based on my research on the filter, if you have active fuel handling where the computer cuts off cylinders, you probably have a filter. I had the peg high 80 pressure. Rev engine it would drop, then stall to 0 then go back to 80. For my job on an 05 Tahoe with 5.3L, I grabbed 3 moving boxes stacked flat on top of each other to lay on over the engine area, I put a 3 step stool at the bumper to stand on and just laid over the engine on the boxes. This really made it quite comfortable to find the sensor. At first I tried to get my big hands back there, only first removing the shield cover, it wasn't possible so I disconnected the fuel rail line as you show and then using a boroscope saw the cable connected to the sensor and just fished my hand down the cable to the sensor. At the sensor I gently lifted the clip, then pulled it off. I could feel the yellow grommet seal in the sensor. I got the socket on with the 3/8 wobble extension 6" and then a 2-3" wobble (2x wobble). I fished the socket/wobble tool down the side, got it on by hand, then using my left hand holding socket in place and using flex 3/8 ratchet removed it. Make sure to have a good grip on the socket and sensor, in my case the grommet fell out of the sensor, was in the socket, then it dopped out into the bay and luckily on the driveway vs hidden for life on the frame. There is also a gray insert on the old sensor you want to move into the new sensor, I think it just tightens up the pin guidance to ensure a snug fit and contact (I used a little pick to get the gray insert out). I used the boroscope to look down at the hole for a filter, this engine had none. Bolted up new sensor, for safety of the socket, keep your left hand on the socket to ensure it doesn't run up and go on an angle and crack the sensor. You will feel the sensor have resistance once hand screwing in as the thread sealant adds some resistance. It tightened up nice and snug, then I paid attention to where the clip notch on socket was as you are doing this all blind by feel. I started the tahoe up, using boroscope ran it for 5 minutes and looked around the sensor for leaks. There were none, pressure now really close to 40 at idle and when I rev the engine, it tracks with higher pressure. In all the job wasn't bad if you have wobble extensions and a thin wall oil sensor socket, I could probably do the job again in under 30 minutes from setup to back up and running. If you have the right tools, you can do this repair.
Great job! Thanks for commenting and thorough tutorial. I should add this into the description. It’s been a couple years since I replaced mine and it’s still working as it should. this is the best video on the subject. I am needing to do this on my 2004 Avalanche (pressure gauge on dash pegs at "80" with key on engine off or engine running). I'm going to have to disconnect that fuel line too because I have large hands and thick arms. One thing I have not seen in any video is how to disconnect the electrical connector on it. Nowadays it seems that few are truly press and release, most seem to have some funky lock setup or hidden release.

I know this is an old video, but I am seeing a little low oil pressure in my 5.3 while cold. When the truck runs for a bit, it'll move back to the original pressure. I've had this truck for a long time, and it has over 320,000 miles on her. Any information or tips would be great appreciated, truly believe that anyone can learn to do mechanical work. It is rewarding and cost saving for sure! Great video by the way.
Thank you for the compliment. It’s usually that the oil pressure drops when warmed up. With that many miles the cam bearings could be worn causing the drop. You could run a heavier viscosity oil and see if that helps. Lucas oil treatment is good to use and try as well.
@@dhammiam I'm trying to find a 6.0 or another 5.3 to swap in there. I have had the best luck with this truck. Simple maintenance and replaced the 1-2 solenoid in the transmission. @@chadball8296 another thought on the oil pressure is if the pickup screen is clogged or the oil pump wore out it could take it some time to build pressure. As far as oil, you could use the recommended oil, and replace one quart with 20-50 and another with Lucas and see how that works.
@@dhammiam Awesome, appreciate the information. I will be doing my oil today! I'll let ya know the results. If I find that that doesn't fix anything. Replacing the oil pump, do I have to pull the front cover to remove that?
Good job. I’ve replaced a few of these and I’ve found the gm sensors are spotty on quality. Started using STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS brand which are USA 🇺🇸 made. Seem to be alot higher quality.
Thank you for watching and for your comment. I’ve got lots more how to do it yourself coming. I’m so busy working on stuff that I have to make time to do videos but very much worth it to help others. Have a great day
Those are great words for the people who feel they can do it. Me personally I'm a certified aircraft technician, unfortunately not licensed yet, but I try and do all the work on my 03 trailblazer ext 5.3. I've even overhauled my transmission, so I've gotten really in depth when it comes to working on my truck. I been having a lifter problem for about 2 years and getting louder. I noticed some motor oil near the bottom of the transmission, so about to drop the oil pan change gasket and O-rings and I've also noticed that my oil pressure guage stays around 40 no lower and just slightly higher to about 43 or 45.
Sounds like you’re doing great. When I went through college to be a dealership technician, most of the others in my class didn’t come out rebuilding transmissions because they were intimidated by all the parts involved. I just set my goals one at a time and each time went for the next level. I wondered if I could become a nascar engine builder and did. I believe anything is possible if you set your mind to it. Aircraft Technician is impressive. I thought I could cause issues if I didn’t assemble a nascar engine correctly, but an airplane is a whole other level. Keep doing what you want to do and you will do great. That’s important. Let Me know if you have any questions. As for the lifter issue, could be a number of things. You can run the engine without the rocket cover on and be sure oil is getting to the rockers. Maybe while you have the pan off replace the oil pump. I’d suggest taking the new pump apart, inspecting and cleaning it. Thanks and good luck
@@dhammiam hey that's impressive. A NASCAR TECH! WOW. That's amazing for real. I'm happy you were able to accomplish that. I dropped the pan already and changed out the gasket which was completely flattened. There was very little ínsulation left on the gasket, and also changed to O-ring on the pick up, but still have the lifter problem. Unfortunately! Oil pressure is fine its still around the same 40ish I even feel more power accelerating. Took me over 12 hours 🤣 only because I was working on the floor and that sucks but she's running good and no more leak. I didn't remove the struts or the sway bar links and when I pulled out the 4x4 actuator the drive shaft came out with it. Lmao, but everything is fine.
@@dhammiam oh and I do have the oil pressure switch that I'm not sure if I should change it or not. I don't ha e any codes, I didn't have them before. No miss fire or anything so either the lifter is stuck or needs to be changed. I'm pricing every thing now. Head gasket, bolts, valve cover gasket etc.
@@JovanValentin711 there’s lots of products that claim to help lifter ticking. You could try some marvel mystery oil for I think maybe 1000 miles? Look that up. I’ve used CD2 before years ago. These are some alternatives to try before digging in. I’d say replace the op sensor if you’re already in there and it’s easy to get to but hold off till then.
@@dhammiam I've already tried other products none worked. Lol. Last I tried was Liqui Moly and no go..... off it must go. I have thw old pressure switch I dont think that's the problem.
I had the same on a 200,000 mile 5.3. Turned out to be the oil pickup O-ring
thank you
Thank you 😊
Awesome video! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you. Hopefully it will save others some aggravation
Best video ever . Thank you for the info.
Thank you for the nice comment, much appreciated. Let me know if I can help any by making future videos or answering questions
Good tips Mister. 🎓
Thank you 😊
@@dhammiam Hey ! It's hard to find fellows like you. Knowing what's what, and then putting it into logically spoken english.
Same. I had no screen. Great video
Thank you, I appreciate that and the info.
Thank you so much for helping me save money
I’m glad I could help 😃
You did a good job keep up the videos bro let me know when you make the next one
Thank you, Will do! I saw your comment a few days ago just been busy. Thanks again and have a great weekend
Do I need to install the filter of just the sensor by its self ?
Good job. I’ve replaced a few of these and I’ve found the gm sensors are spotty on quality. Started using STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS brand which are USA 🇺🇸 made. Seem to be alot higher quality.
How did you get access to the sensor? Did you lean over the hood or did you sit on top of the radiator?
I laid across the top of the engine
I was able to borrow one of those cameras with a long flexible neck from a buddy. That helped me to be able to see what I was reaching for.
Those are great. I finally got one it has a 15 foot long camera cable 😃
You are so right you can do this knowledge and it’s proper use wins battles thank you I have the same truck 2013 5.3 Lt 1500
Thank you for watching and for your comment. I’ve got lots more how to do it yourself coming. I’m so busy working on stuff that I have to make time to do videos but very much worth it to help others. Have a great day
Thanks for the great info on sending unit.ck,wisc.
Great video thanks so much
Thank you. I hope it helped and if I can help in the future just comment here. Have a great weekend
Sr, thank you so much
The best video about it
Thank you 😊 Happy New Year to you and yours
Thanks for the help, now I have to buy the right tools 🛠
Let
Me know if you have any questions.
My pressure is steady around 40 it's been consistent at that, but once I remove the intake manifold I'll change the switch anyway. There is better access that way. Thank for the input
Thanks for the part number
You’re welcome. Thanks for watching and good luck

Hmm, I have 06 Duramax and just recently replaced my oil pressure sensor. It literally took me 7-8 minutes of labor, never done it before. Looks much harder then it is in a real life.
Good vedio man and great advise with the tools.
Thank you 😊
Thanks. You been a big help.

thanks you it really helped to see you do it saved me a lot of uncertenty in tackeling it my self also to see that it the same symtopm as my truck

Did you put the new screen in
No. I didn’t get a screen. I think most will agree it’s pointless to use
Thanks for addressing the screen.
Thank you
Great video, thank you!
Thank you 😊 I’m glad I can help
Gave it shot today and couldn’t swivel that harness out the way to get the socket on. Then the valve stem to heater core snapped off and I got covered in coolant. What a day.
Oh no 😮 I’m sorry to hear that. Were you able to get it finished yet?
Great video . Thanks a million for your help. I’ve been wanting to tackle the same job o. My avalanche.
Thanks. It's not so bad just a matter of having the right tools to get down in there
great information
Thank you. Happy New Year 🎆
I got a 2018 ford expedition n it has oil sensor problems n i replacement the sensor now the low engine oil screen it just staying on what could be the cause
Thanks. I'm gonna change mine today or at least try.
How did it go?
Ilike what you said. I’m gonna go get some metal picks to make sure my filter can come out
Let me know how it goes. Mine didn’t have one and still don’t
Got some questions on a 04 Chevrolet suburban
Got oil pressure low light and sounds like 🚨
Got low oil pressure and sounds not good at all and just need to be able to talk with you about all problems that I am having and needed to do about it ASAP???????
Sorry, I missed this comment somehow. Have you figured anything out yet?
Great video Thanks
Thank you. Merry Christmas 🎄
So did you put the screen in with the new sensor? I’m having the same issue
I didn’t use a screen. I really don’t see the need for it
Hey thanks for the information
You’re welcome, thanks
Bro, you're awesome!
Thanks! Let me know if you need any help 👍
I just did mine on a 2012 sierra for the second time in 3 yrs. Guess what, the screen was filthy. I installed the new one w/o the screen. Lets see how long it lasts this time. Now i have to tackle a bad CV axle for the second time in 2 yrs lol. If i didnt have bad luck, i would have no luck.
Hopefully it’ll be fixed for good now. I know what ya mean. It’s one thing after another
Hello watched your video I didn’t find a screen on my gmc savanna 03 I put in a new sensor but oil light keeps doing the same thing
The oil light is on I assume. Is the gauge reading erratically? Is it doing same as before you put the new sensor in?
Great video I need help where is located on my 2003 chevy van espress 1500
Should be on the back of the engine
Thanks I will keep in mind this weekend 👍
Thanks.. Good to know.
Thank you
Could it be camshaft pressure plate behind the timing cover and of so i might as well change out the oil pump to a better one as well right...
Really cool, this is exactly what is wrong with mine
I’m glad I could help. I think there’s a lot of things people can do themselves instead of spending hard earned money paying someone else especially car repairs. Thank you
