So today we dropped the oil pan and replaced the O ring. We went from hardly any oil pressure to 50#. The lifters sounded awful, now all quiet. My estimates were $1900 to $3800. I fixed it for $54 and 5 hours under the truck. My husband is 68 years old. You can do this!! Thanks for the video.

Me and the wife decided to go ahead and do the repair yesterday on our Yukon.
Oil pressure before HOT was 10-15 lbs and maybe 35-40 cold.
Now it’s 50 cold and 40 hot. Just here to say this is a confirmed fix. Thank you guys so much for the video!

What a world. I'm the guy that bought your Mazda3 off you years ago. Was having oil pressure issues in my 04 Silverado and stumbled across this. My issue was 2in of sludge in the pan but this video was still very helpful. Only thing I'd add is make sure the pick up is actually seated into the oil pump. Mine wouldn't go in and I ended up having to tear it back apart. Good video!

Did this today. Truck was fine until the weather turned cold. The oil pressure gauge would go to 40 on initial start up. after the idle would settle to base idle the oil pressure would drop to what the electric gauge showed was zero. Confirmation with a manual gauge showed 13-15. i found that after the truck was fully up to operating temp for enough time to get the oil warm to the trucks oil pressure was 40psi at cruising, speed say, 1700 RPM and 60 psi at 3000 if you kicked it down. the results were consistent for several warm ups during 25 degree weather. The diagnosis in this video made sense. The variable being how thick the oil was at lower temp. There had to be a problem on the suction side of the pump. Either a sludge up pickup screen or a brittle none effective pickup tube oring. Dropping the pan confirmed no sludge. The oring was brittle like hard plastic, it was not cracked or broken. I followed the video instructions and completed the job in about 4 hours. The results were instant. 45 psi in initial start, and still 60 max. Execellent job Tom Canino!!

I finally did this and my oil pressure went from 20lbs or less to over 40lbs at start up and is holding around 45lbs + as I roll down the highway. very happy and it was quite simple on a 2WD.

    @patriots5628 3 роки тому +12

I want to thank you for the video. I just followed your advice and bought a $3 red oil pickup seal, deflector and oil pan gasket.
GMC Dealership quoted 2500 for this work plus another 2500 for wheel bearing and ball joint replacent and passenger side upgraded valve cover + gasket replacement.
Well there was no deflector installed so that was definitely part of the problem. They also said there may be an oil pump issue, then the oil pressure switch. well pressure switch and the filter was changed in 2019
so cleaned the oil pressure valve blew it out using air compressor because I couldn't get a new one. I put it back in and put the truck together and I got over 40 pounds of pressure. the truck runs so much better register is 24 miles per gallon on the highway doing less than 70 mph study cruise control All the way 3-hour drive from North Virginia down to North Carolina just shy of a quarter of a tank.
it runs like when I first got it. A big difference from 32lbs pressure to 40lbs. of pressure and it goes up now when I get on it. functioning properly.
I didn't want to change out the oil pump because it was too much work and a GMC has a lot more work than what you had in this video. there are two covers to remove there's a plastic front cover and a oil pan cover deflector sheet whatever you call it deflector cover and then I had to take out the gearbox totally disconnected from the U-joints drop it all they all the way out and I have to drop down the steering stabilizer type of thing I don't even know what it's called, but it had to drop down because the lines were intentionally put in too high up they were in in the way obstructing the pan from dropping down low enough so that it can be removed.
I could do it a lot faster now that I know what exactly needs to get done but it cost me less than $60 and a truck is running excellent now.
I appreciate it. it's better than me spending a hundred something dollars for an oil pump and then buying the gasket and buying all this other stuff would have cost me over 200 something dollars.
    have a good day

My brother in law's oil pressure was suddenly only reading about 26PSI (verified with my OBDII scanner) after a cylinder head and valve lifter replacement. When he put the dipstick tube and dipstick back in during reassembly, the end of the dipstick broke off and was making a loud clacking sound when the dipstick was pushed in all the way. My suspicion is that it got tweaked and wedged itself into the windage tray somehow and was getting hit by the crankshaft. So a new dipstick and tube, and I'll be pulling his pan for him next week to do the o-ring after making sure the problem isn't in the electrical circuit (once I find my mechanical gauge to plug into the oil pressure sender port on the block).
This is going to suck in 105 degree weather.....

There are a few pop rivets that hold the gasket on. All you do is drill out the center, take the pieces out. Then when you install the new gasket, install new pop rivets in those holes. Simple. I have a 2014 chevy express 6.0 that sometimes has no oil pressure at startup until i rev the motor a little then its fine. I'm assuming I have a bad o ring. It seems I can easily drop the pan on this van. Anything I should look out for?

So first overfill your oil. Jack up the rear of the vehicle to have oil over the O-ring area. If oil pressure goes up . Then you know the problem.

If your oil pressure is 7 at idle, and you can move crank shaft in and out sideways an inch, like my last engine, o- ring not going to help! Had to find low mileage engine, 63k, and install! Now I'm doing fine. Used engine $815 shipped from Oregon to Phoenix, my door step. Not bad...

My 2005 envoy 5.3 v8. Startup pressure okay. Within 1min pressure at 40 steadily drops to 0-5 with slight tick if I don’t rev idle. It continues to do this UNTIL coolant temp reaches 200 degrees… oil pressure stabilizes 20-25 always. Which is opposite for many. Parking the vehicle on a downhill slope seems to fix the issue so it’s seeming like o ring on the tube? If anyone has insight or similar prob? I’m all ears!

Tip I learned the hard way, always remove the dip sticks of any pans you are removing. Often when put back on the sticks will get caught in pan or whatever and then be stuck or broken.

So i replaced the pickup tube o ring, the oil pressure is better but at idle it still drops low enough for the warning chime to come on. Does this mean the oil pump has damage to it? Or is there something else i should also replace? I read somewhere to replace the oil filter check valve? Could that cause lower oil pressures? Thanks for any help!

Thanks for the reply Tom! Yes i cleaned the oil pickup screen. It didn't have much stuck to it. I read that the oil pump pressure valve on these motors are faulty also, i think that may be the issue. I think im gonna run a thicker oil and see if the pressure goes up. If it does than theres def some wear and tear or the pressure relief valve is bad, slightly stuck open.
