    If you need to remove a towel bar without damaging your wall, keep watching. I'm sure at some point you're going to have a reason to do this. And to detach your own towel bar, it's going to be very similar to what I'm going to demonstrate in this video with mine. I installed my towel bars a few years ago as part of my bathroom remodel but let's say I wanted to repaint this room, I'll want to be able to do it the cleanest way possible without anything on the walls.
    Obviously towel bars are connected on the two ends. But underneath, there is a set screw that locks the posts to the wall. On mine, I'll need a tiny Allen wrench to loosen the screws. This is typical of most custom towel bars. And it's important not to take the screw out all the way. Just loosen it enough until the post can be lifted up. Then just repeat on the other side. Some towel bars installed by your home builder might have screws that can be removed by a micro flathead screwdriver. So check to see what type of set screw you have before starting.
    When both sides are loose enough, lift the towel bar off. What's left on the wall are the mounting brackets. This is what the towel bar hangs on to and where the set screw is wedged up against so the bar doesn't fall off. I'm removing these so that when I start painting, I can get paint completely under the towel bar posts and fully cover the wall.
    In the video, you'll see under the brackets I have inserted wall anchors to make sure these were attached securely. But the wall anchors can be removed and the holes can be filled in if you're completely eliminating the towel bar. This whole process is very simple and I'm confident anyone can do it. After I'm done painting, I can just reverse the steps I took to reattach the towel bar. A drill really helps with the wall brackets but it's not necessary. And a regular screwdriver will work just great!
    If you need any of the tools I mentioned, I listed them in the description to make it easy for you to find. I've repainted my bathrooms many times and I always remove the towel bars for the cleanest look. I hope you can see that removing a towel bar is super simple to do! Just wanted to thank you for this video. Had a problem with loose towel racks, and tightening the screw using an Allen wrench solved it. 2 minute job all because of your guidance!

    I’m in a tiny rental and I want to put shelving above the toilet but there’s a towel bar there. This helped a lot! Thanks :)

    I've removed many towel bars like you say but my current house uses a different setting. There are no screws. Just something that looks like it should be pushed to release it. I got it to release by putting in a small, slotted head screwdriver and then rotating it outward.

      I’ve not seen the type of towel bracket you mentioned! Only the set screw type in my video. But I’m glad you figured out how to get your towel bar off! Thanks for watching!

    What if I cant take the small screws at the bottom out even with the right tool? It seems like the screw if off the rails so it's stuck in a loop whenever I turn

      It’s possible that the little set screw is stripped. I don’t really have any good solutions for a stripped screw. Hopefully you’re able to get it out! You might have to get a tiny drill bit and drill it out. But then you’d need new screws afterwards which might be hard to find.

      @@digitalcamproducer Thanks for the suggestion! I was able to get it out by brute force and tilting it down on one side. Somehow it just worked haha.

    Any idea on average length of a set screw? It’s to replace a lost set screw. A 1.5 Allen key was used to tighten.

    • @digitalcamproducer
      @digitalcamproducer  3 роки тому

      Those set screws are pretty short. I’ve never measured them but they’re probably only around 1/4 inch long. Do you have the other set screw from the other side of the towel bar you can use for reference? Or check the other towel bars or towel rings in your other bathrooms.

      Another viewer also mentioned they had a towel bar with no set screw. Unfortunately I’ve never encountered one like that so I’m not sure how your towel bar is secured to the wall. But I am definitely curious to run into one of those someday! Thanks for watching!
