Doctor Who is a British science-fiction television programme broadcast by the BBC since 1963. The programme depicts the adventures of a Time Lord called the Doctor, an extraterrestrial being who appears to be human. The Doctor explores the universe in a time-travelling space ship called the TARDIS. The TARDIS exterior appears as a blue British police box, which was a common sight in Britain in 1963 when the series first aired. With various companions, the Doctor combats foes, works to save civilisations, and helps people in need.
Beginning with William Hartnell, thirteen actors have headlined the series as the Doctor. The transition from one actor to another is written into the plot of the show with the concept of regeneration into a new incarnation, a plot device in which a Time Lord "transforms" into a new body when the current one is too badly harmed to heal normally.
A series of special episodes of the British science fiction television programme Doctor Who will air to celebrate the programme's 60th anniversary. The episodes were written by Russell T Davies, and will be broadcast on BBC One in November 2023, preceding the following fourteenth series. David Tennant will appear as the Fourteenth Doctor before Ncuti Gatwa takes over as the Fifteenth Doctor. Catherine Tate was also confirmed to be returning to the show in the 2023 specials.
The three specials were directed by Rachel Talalay, Tom Kingsley and Chanya Button respectively. Filming moved from Roath Lock Studios to Wolf Studios once Bad Wolf became a co-producer of the series; filming commenced in May 2022, and was complete
David Tennant will appear as the Fourteenth Doctor before Ncuti Gatwa takes over as the Fifteenth Doctor. Catherine Tate was also confirmed to be returning to the show in the 2023 specials. Yasmin Finney joined the cast for the anniversary, to portray a character named Rose. Bernard Cribbins, Jacqueline King and Karl Collins are also set to return as Wilfred Mott, Sylvia Noble and Shaun Temple, respectively.
On 29 July 2021, the BBC announced that Chris Chibnall, who served as executive producer and showrunner of the series for the Thirteenth Doctor, would depart the series after a run of specials in 2022. In the BBC press release, Chibnall is quoted as saying: "I wish our successors - whoever the BBC and BBC Studios choose - as much fun as we've had. They're in for a treat!" The future of the programme was first teased by Piers Wenger on 25 August 2021, when he said an upcoming change for Doctor Who would be "radical".
On 24 September 2021, the BBC announced Russell T Davies would return to Doctor Who as showrunner, after having previously acted as showrunner from 2005-2010 for the Ninth and Tenth Doctors. He will succeed Chibnall for the show's 60th anniversary in 2023 and beyond. Davies will be joined by the Bad Wolf production company, which was founded by former Doctor Who executive producer Julie Gardner and former BBC head of drama Jane Tranter. In October 2021, it was announced that Sony would acquire a majority of Bad Wolf. Bad Wolf also took over creative control of Doctor Who beginning with the specials, allowing the BBC to focus on establishing Doctor Who as a global brand.
The Fourteenth Doctor is the current incarnation of the Doctor, the fictional protagonist of the BBC science fiction television programme, Doctor Who. The Fourteenth Doctor is portrayed by Scottish actor, David Tennant, who previously portrayed the Tenth Doctor.
Within the series narrative, the Doctor is a millennia-old, alien Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey, with somewhat unknown origins, who travels in time and space in their TARDIS, frequently with companions. At the end of life, the Doctor regenerates; as a result, the physical appearance and personality of the Doctor changes.
Ncuti Gatwa had previously been announced as Jodie Whittaker's successor as the programme's lead, and many reports stated he would play the Fourteenth Doctor and that Whittaker's Thirteenth Doctor would regenerate into an incarnation portrayed by Gatwa. Upon Jodie Whittaker's final appearance as the character, she instead regenerated into a form similar to the Tenth Doctor. This character, portrayed by Tennant, was confirmed to be the Fourteenth Doctor, with later clarification that Ncuti Gatwa would actually portray the Fifteenth Doctor

Susan Twist is the name of the actress not the character. She played Rosie Banks in Brookside.
And it’s not unknown for the same actor to turn up in different stories. Michael Sheard was in every other episode during the classic era 😉

I got the feeling that The Fifteenth Doctor that Ruby met in the club (and the one we saw watching her band) was a future version of the one we see in the rest of the episode. He gave strong vibes of watching over Ruby, and it would also explain why The Doctor knew that Ruby was not "just clumsy" and how it was "worse than that".
He does reference her playing the band and watching her in the maestro episode

I mulled over a lot of theories for Mrs. Flood, but the leading one for me is that she’s Mrs. Santa Claus. Magical stuff is happening and it’s Christmas. The rules of the universe have weakened and changed and what would be a greater red herring with 14 foreshadowing vampires than for freakin’ Santa Claus to be real?
Ruby's adoptive grandmother was kept waiting for tea .... and when the gold tooth was picked up I seem to remember two voices laughing ... making a triad?
Maybe RTD is doing a riff on Red Dwarf's Ouroboros storyline, wherein Dave Lister (spoilers!) learns that he is his own father.
There are a few things from the Christmas special that can help figure out who Mrs Flood is. Firstly, Mrs Flood is still around in the timeline where Ruby was taken by the goblins, so she can't be a future version of Ruby. In that same timeline she is shocked when she sees the Tardis dematerialise, so she can't be The Master, The Rani, Susan or really any character who would be inherently familiar with Tardises. But she does know what a Tardis is in the timeline where Ruby isn't taken by the goblins, so her knowing about the Tardis must be a result of something that happens with Ruby in the past.
So maybe The Doctor and Ruby travel to the past, to a place and time of Ruby's choosing, where they meet a young Mrs Flood who then learns what a Tardis is. This would explain how she knew what a Tardis was at the end of the Christmas special and also why she was shocked to see it disappear in the timeline where Ruby was kidnapped. Maybe the reason RTD is drawing so much attention to Mrs Flood isn't because she's a returning character or a big part of Doctor Who lore, but rather because she has a big emotional moment with Ruby which will serve as a big payoff for Ruby's character.

There has been confirmation that the character is reccuring so yeah. So there's a chance she is in the Beatle episode. ;) Or one that happens in the 70's, if we even have one of those.

We can invent all the "X is really Y" theories we like; but even if one turns out to be right, the interesting question is what X will do.
I definitely think the Toymaker has something to do with the weirdness, when the 14th Doctor set events in motion at the end of the Universe he made it possible for things like Goblins that didn't exist in reality to now exist. We could see the Doctor fighting mythical creatures or Villains he previous faced because the universe was reset. I don't know if they will go this way but I thought this could work for Davros's new look, the Doctor could meet Davros in a timeline where he was never disfigured.
The characters name being Susan Twist seems like it's leading to a Susan return (if ti goes anywhere).BUT, if Susan does return, I wish she would be played by Carol Anne Ford.

I never thought of it but yeah, the only other Timelords you see are are mostly villains. Villains are fun but I always thought they should have the Doctor visit Romana or Leela on Gallifrey( although I know Leela's not a Timelord).

The Doctor keeps saying that he is the only timelord, but that isn't true. A) the "master" is a timelord b) the rest of the timelords are locked away in a deep pocket of space. SO I believe very well that Gallifrey could possibly still exist somewhere!!

So RTD talked about the Toymaker's legions coming... and other pantheon's coming... I've got a theory that I first came up with when I read the synopsis for this Christmas special.
TL;DR THE RETURN OF THE TRICKSTER?
So something we will be exploring in this episode, as well as in the upcoming season, is the unique circumstances surrounding Ruby's birth. Apparently she was left on a Church doorstep, hence the title "the Church on Ruby Road."
With what RTD said about Pantheons coming, I'm willing to bet Ruby is a child of the trickster. In the final season of the Sarah Jane Adventures, we are introduced to Sky, a baby that is left on Sarah Jane's doorstep that was an engineered weapon in the war against the metalkind. Given that Elizabeth Sladen passed away before all of Season 5 could be filmed, we never saw what else was coming, however since then Russell released storylines for the remaining episodes, including a storyline that Sky was actually a creation by the Trickster in another one of his apocalyptic schemes.
Given what's been said about Ruby, and this hint of pantheons coming back, I'm thinking that Russell may be taking that unused storyline and adapting it for Doctor Who.

Since Mrs. flood is actually Brian Mays wife in real life maybe we'll meet her in the abbey road sequence. The one who waits could be our eternal friend the hybrid or maybe Amy or Rory might make an appearance that would be fab. I've always wondered if Susan can regenerate since she is a timelord's grandchild?
Might be a bit cynical but currently am going in expecting the reveals to be disappointing, regardless of whether they are legacy characters or not, mostly due to how many times it's been done before, and common guesses (Rani and Susan) aren't as interesting as people claim. Though I'd like to be proven wrong.

When Anita Dobson was announced to be in Doctor Who it was the same time thay announced the actress who played Ruby's adopted mum she was standing next to a blue door which was tatty looking & the Miss flood character standing next to a pristine looking blue door. I did comment about that on Russell T Davies photo and it did get a like at the time. Maybe Mrs floods houses is an TARDIS.

There was that building with the writing on it in the Star Beast as the ship crashing flies past it. Nothing's come from that - could be connected to something or nothing. You could see the writing more in the trailer when it was pause.

The Doctor has always a shaky relationship with UNIT. The Doctor doesn't like UNIT's attitude of shoot first, investigate afterwards attitude. We see this with the Third Doctor.
I think Mrs Flood is likely Ruby's mother i.e before Ruby's was kidnapped by goblins Mrs Flood doesn't know what the Tardis is, but after the doctor goes to the past and saved Ruby Mrs Flood does know what the Tardis is, so if Mrs Flood is indeed Ruby's mother she likely saw the Tardis after hearing the haa huu haa huu

Tharries, I hope you know I luv ya like the nephew I never had, but if I had but one crit of your vids and channel that is recurring, it is your near complete disregard for the expanded universe. You talk about Susan and the Monk like TV is all that matters, like you've never seen or heard of the TARDIS wiki. Expanded media matters more to Doctor WHO than almost any other franchise because it was gone for so very long those of us that lived through "the wilderness years" never thought it was coming back. Ever. So we invested. We are vested. You or anyone acting like it doesn't matter is annoying at best, like we all wasted thousands at worst, because for many years, the WHO EU was ALL that mattered.
I know a lot of people didn't read the books or listen to the audios, but there is a way to ignore all of WHO EU without lighting a match to all those authors, actors, producers, etc, all their hard work, nor retroactively making all the money I and others spent for those things into so much kindling. There is a perfect world in which nothing has to be trampled on and everyone can be happy.
For example: If Susan returns I hope it is with the context that she had to hide from the end of the last Time War, because that has to be addressed for TV alone to make sense, but they don't have to mention how she left Earth in the future, or working for the Time Lords, they don't have to say anything but vague throwaway lines and every fan can be served.
But every time you say something like "Susan was never returned to," you're slapping Paul McGann in the face. Do you really want to slap Paul in the face? I thought you liked him! :grinning_face_with_sweat:

Yeah youre completely right and think it will be finished and put to pasture very soon this is not Doctor who.
Too much money has been invested for the plug to just be pulled, however a knee jerk reaction and sudden pivot on direction could be a possibility if the new series hemorrhages viewers.
I didn't like the Xmas episode, nor Ncuti's portrayal of the Doctor so far. However I very much doubt you'll see any sudden cancellation in the next few years.
