Robert Englund should go down in history as one of the best casting decisions ever! He was iconic in this role.
Agreed 🫱🏿🫲🏾
fr
That is a fact.
He's actually been in a bunch of other stuff too and he's awesome in those roles too.
he pretty much has. it's why he's a major consultant on every Wes Craven or Newline/WB horror movie/tv show.
Hear me out, my theory is, the teacher in “A Nightmare On Elm Street” (Lin Shaye) was so devastated and worried seeing all of her students die in their sleep, so she began trying to contact whatever was attacking them in their dreams, leading to her discovering the further in the “Insidious” franchise. I know her name is different but who’s to say she hadn’t simply gotten a name change and moved to a new state to get away from the people there. Idk but I’ve been thinking of this for years now, and know this theory is completely off lol but it’s still very cool. I think it’s awesome that she’s played in 2 movies where you basically can die/get lost in your dreams
Good theory ❤️
Great concept!
@@nel9074 thank you ! I wish that would’ve been the case😭if these two were the same universe omg
@@bleaktheateranimation9600 ❤️I wish it was real
I mean, even the red face demon with the long ass razor sharp nails ??!! Idk It just felt all too perfect to me!! How could you not think these two in some far away reality are connected
Im in my 40s now and that nursery rhythm still sends shivers down my spine. Just that part used in the intro gave me a chill.
I think Glenn and Nancy grew up together. So, the picture of the birds on it could have been to show Nancy drew it for Glenn to show she liked him and he kept it because he liked her too. A hometown sweethearts kind of thing. Although Wes was an athiest, he never truly forgot his Baptist roots. The idea of atheist turning away from god and totally forgetting their upbringing is incredibly inaccurate. Craven spoke on this in an interview where he said, "One cannot make films about evil if one has ceased really to believe in it." Great job, as usual. I look forward to the next one.
That is likely,
considering that they're
the same age and live across the street from each other.
I agree, in the original Freddy went after the children of the parents who killed him. It would make sense that Nancy and Glen grew up in the same neighborhood.
Exactly. that’s what I was going to write. You wrote it better than I would have.
@@bleaktheateranimation9600right bro
@@leahhart3585oh yeah
Don Hannah, who was credited as one of the "surfer" characters in the end credits, is the one that did the reading part in Nancy's class when she falls asleep & Tina appears. So the other "surfer" must have been in the classroom as well. As soon as I saw the name, I remembered who he was & I think I only know about that because of the Never Sleep Again documentary lol.
Looking forward to seeing the rest of the series! You always find things that I never noticed or didn't know, so it's fascinating to find out about them.
Freaking LOVED that documentary.
@@TheoRae8289 Same, it's so good! Probably going to watch it again soon, cause I've been thinking about it a lot lately.
I get the feeling that it was referring to the personality type rather than the activity of surfing.
In a deleted scene, when Don Hannah starts reading, another student says that “California is the most palmy state.” Most likely this is Surfer 1
Yep! That’s what I came here to say too. Here’s the scene.

This is still my favorite horror movie and I still remember the unsettling dream I had about Freddy when I was a kid. Great job CZ really enjoyed this one.
good job surviving soldier
Mine too!
Tell us about your dreams I wanna hear 'em
I used to watch these a lot when I was younger and had a few Freddy dreams. The best and most vivid ( I still remember it clearly 30 years or so later 😳 ) I was being chased by him and finally had enough and turned to confront him , I then flicked my hand out and a set of claws came out of my fingers like his and I stabbed and hacked him to bits . The other thing I remember is that I knew it was a dream and I was in control . Now I'm in my 50s and barely remember my dreams .
I had a Freddy dream as well lol
I was in a sweet shop and a old lady serving me suddenly became Freddy, then the shop windows shutters all dropped down
Everything was suddenly gray
I can remember a few more details but not many
I do remember being scared to sleep the next night lol
Best slasher Franchise imo...
And even if A Nightmare On Elm Street never gets a quality reboot...
They really should explore horror in dreams in a movie...
It's just something that can break the rules and grants endless creativity
Thank you Wes Craven!! not only you gave us such great movies and an amazing ethernal villain, but you also gave Johnnhy Depp his first chance at acting ♥
Omg please do the entire franchise! 💜
Seriously, man, your channel rules. I can just watch and watch and watch and never be bored.
I know that one of the surfers is the guy in the classroom in Nancy's dream. He is standing up reading Shakespeare or something other. He is speaking very slow and it's creepy. I also saw his interview in the Never Sleep Again documentary which is amazing. In that, he was credited as surfer.
Yeah, he's reading from
A Midsummer night's dream.
And he's the brother of Daryl Hannah who starred in Splash and Kill Bill
@@timmbig I forgot about that.
The ending was Marge's dream, that was the twist at the end.
I never realized something about the poster for the movie until my friend pointed it out, on the poster that ain’t Freddy and the woman isn’t Nancy
They're close enough. Still not as bad as the Dream Warriors poster. 😂
The European posters were different.
The first was a very detailed airbrushed picture of
a sleeping Nancy's face with Krueger's glove hovering over her head.
The Dream warriors poster was an shot of Freddy not used in the movie,
wearing an overcoat that
I'm pretty sure he doesn't wear at any point in any of the films.
I was surprised to find out that the DVD covers were actually the original US posters.
My mom used to have a collectors box set of all the movies so now I wonder which version of the poster it had.
Tina’s body being dragged always terrified me as a kid
A nightmare on elm street must go down in history as the most original slasher film. Or most original and creative horror movie in history.
The franchise is fantastic and Freddy Krueger is one of the scariest villains ever!
Finally! I've been waiting for some Elm Street content! Thanks CZ!
Me too! 😁 I LOVE the Nightmare On Elm Street series!! Robert Englund is the best!
I’m so excited for this series, immediately watching every video
Me too! I've been wondering and waiting for this!
Quickly
You gotta love this classic. Scared the crap out of me when I was a kid. ❤ good times
This was my first "real" horror movie I ever saw. It was on video hen I was thirteen on video with my parents and it scared the crap of me. But it also gave me a life log love of horror movies.
Freddy is my favorite slasher. I'm so happy you are finally covering his movies!
Thank you for making this! This is one of the only videos that discusses the relationship between Nancy and her mom and the symbolism of alcoholism. Nancy and Marge's relationship in my opinion is even more important than Freddy himself because of how complex it is. It's a shame to me that Freddy in the other sequels takes the spotlight away from the original kids of Elm Street (to the point that they aren't even mentioned anymore) because this element of Elm Street is what makes it (imo) the greatest movie of all time. I've always thought that Freddy was the physical representation of the kids generational trauma coming after them. Definitely excited to watch more from the other sequels (even if they aren't good 😂).
Dude the chick thing with Nancy written on it is obviously from their childhood. They have lived on that street for their whole lives. Their parents were part of the group that killed Freddie Kruger which is the whole reason he targets them. It’s kind of an adorable detail showing their long connection.
That missing poster of Kevin Collins (and the fact that he was never found after the movies' releases) is probably the scariest detail I found in this film/franchise other than the deaths and Freddy.
Dude I’m pumped for “Welcome to Derry” so I can have even more IT things you missed and horror history 🎉🎉
Don't know why Freddy couldn't just go after all the parents that killed him and not their kids but I guess going after the children is better to carry his story.
Because they took away his kid that's why it's explained in Freddy's dead
I'd think killing their kids would hurt them more than directly killing them.
Plus, aren't these the same kids he supposedly diddled when he was alive?
It could be a number of reasons. The first that comes to mind is that he was a child murderer in life, and he just kept doing that. Second is that his powers work through fear and belief. At the beginning, anyway, they all thought he was dead and gone. It wasn't until 3 that we got adults who knew/believed in his dream demon status. A third is that he may have been scared of them. They did kill him, after all. The last one I can think of is that he wanted to cause more pain by taking out their kids. Prolonged agony.
Cause taking away children from their parents is the biggest lost to parents as they have mourn their children lost for ages so that's why Freddy went after children and not their parents.
He was a child molester/killer when he was alive
Never been more excited for a video notification omg I loveeeeee the og Nightmare on Elm Street!
I’ve been waiting on you to do the Nightmare on Elm Street series! So stoked
Robert Englund is so incredible. Truly one of the most horrifying horror characters. It's a shame the later movies turn him into a cartoon character 😂
I never even noticed one of those birds in the movie. It's amazing what you can see, or not see, in a movie that you've seen many times. Thanks for pointing these items out 👏
I’m just really glad you’re starting to cover the nightmare on elm street franchise 🙏
So glad to see you covering my fave franchise of all time ❤️🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thanks for covering my childhood favorite ❤ Looking forward to the sequals.
Yay! "Nightmare On Elm Street"! My favorite horror movie series! I have been waiting for this! 😂
@CZsWorld Freddy is my favorite horror villian i have the movie collection except for the last one ❤❤.
I think you should do the history of freedy Kruger
This was my first ever horror movie, since then I've been obsessed with all things horror
Only 14 minutes?
There are more unseen stuff that I have missed some.
I'm very happy that you are covering my favorite movie franchise. 🤘
That R.E.M. joke is top notch. I'm super happy that after all this time you keep the quality up in these videos.
My dad brought me up right with horror flicks and i did the same with my daughter. My daddy used to dress up as Jason for Halloween and jump out of the bushes...my friends would drop their candy..he took what he liked and put their buckets at the end of the driveway 😂😂😂 Our house was the highlight of the neighborhood and i miss my daddy, he passed away in February of last year❤
You have literally made my weekend. I have been waiting for you to cover these movies for ages.
I've always thought they missed out on making freddy kill someone by dragging his nails through the mattress while they sleep, i used to have nightmares about that
Yes! Maybe have someone sleeping on their stomach...suddenly they're jolted awake and there's a pool of blood forming under them...when they roll over onto their back, the audience sees Freddy's hand slowly retreat back into the mattress.
Naaah, where's the fun in that? Freddy would rather play with your mind, then off you, like a predator playing with it's food before eating
Awesome video, hoping you do a horror history of Freddy next
Yes! 😁 Except most of it was in the "Freddy's Dead" movie.
@@jenniferhanson3671
Some of it was also covered in the first episode of
Freddy's nightmares.
@@abegarfield7031 Yes, true. 😁
Official Nightmare on Elm Street poster on my wall. Plus I watch all the Nightmare on Elm Street movies almost every single October
Sweet some old school horror! Love your stuff playboy!
Here for Professor CZ ❤
The story was originally set in an unknown small town in southern California. That's why Tina says "it get weird right before an earthquake". In the police station I believe you can see a map of Orange country in Donald's office. Also, of course, the conspicuous palm trees at the cemetery and bridge scenes.
Funny this video pops up after I get up from a cat nap. XD
YES! A Nightmare on Elm Street video! 🤟🏼
OMG, finally!!
Much love from Derry/Bangor, Maine 🎈
ThanksMuch for sharing !
Thank you for another awesome video ❤ cz
Thanks for the List and Video 😀
Luv ur videos 💯💯
Your videos blow my mind at the details you’re able to discover! Great job as always! Love the shirt too btw!
Finally a video on Krueger.
Thanks. I needed this for reference
Loved this breakdown. Brilliant 👍👍🎃🎃
I think Robert Englund's voice role as the Riddler in the cartoon the Batman is a highly underated role of his
Though nothing compared to his performance as the Scarecrow in Injustice 2.
Awesome as always sir 🤘
Love the videos as usual keep them up!
Thanks for sharing another awesome video 😎💥👽🦝🎥🍿
Just wanna give a shout out to his overlook tie at the beginning, always loved the pattern of the hotels carpet
Great analysis! Hit home. Congrats on your videos!
Yesssss my fav franchise!! Thanks and great video as always!
Yessss I’ve been waiting for you to do this franchise!!!
Thank u for this video series
When I saw you rewatching this series on Letterboxd I was so excited knowing these videos were coming! Thanks for the hard work as always! x
Very interesting and on point analysis! A+
The bathtub pillow that Nancy rests her head on in the tub looks like four fingers and is a foreshadowing of Freddy’s hand (which only have knives on four of the fingers) just before he reaches out to grab her from under the bathwater.
Perfect bday gift for me today , I love Freddy and the nightmare franchise thank you Cz!! 💀😭🦇⚰️🧛🏻
Happy birthday! 🎂🎉🎊 🎁
Thank you beautiful Queen♥️🌹♥️
First 2 Nightmare on Elm Street movies were masterpieces but at the 3rd one and beyond the franchise took a weird route
I loved the 3rd one. Anything with Robert Englund as Freddy is good to me! 😂
I think the 3rd one is great because it's a true return to form like the original. The kids caught in the middle of the adults' abusive and negligent behavior, just to end up paying for their sins and having to be their own heroes.
The 6th one could have had that same dark spark, but it lost the plot by making Freddy too quippy.
Wooooo More TYM, Awesome content as always my dude. Greetings from Chile
I always liked the idea of Wes' original ending that it was in fact just a nightmare. It kind of makes sense for the move title lol
About time! I've been waiting for you to get around to this iconic franchise! So far, not disappointed. Look forward to the next one.... "Assuming we both survive."
Love your videos
Great Video!
Oh my gosh yaaay!!!! I've been waiting for more of these! 😃
Love it!!!
10:57 I never noticed how that slap was not possible 😂. She used her right hand to slap her left cheek but she turned her face to the left. Maybe the cut that scene and did a retake but forgot to change which way she was getting slapped.
WOOOOO!!! Been waiting for this 🎉🎉🎉
I think I recall the surfers were students (one was the guy who read that creepy dreamy quote) because they had surfer like attire.
Thank you
I have a theory that the nightmare may have been Marge Thompson's. She knew all about Freddy (Nancy did not), painted Nancy's friends just as you'd suspect: sex crazed & irresponsible. Given how quickly she was able to bar the windows, I think that was her way of being overprotective. She even tells her daughter directly (through the viewer) "You face things, that's your nature, that's your gift" And this is a stretch but the ending could have been her trying to get them out of harm's way as Marge's death was penance.
Also notice the huge use of the the color blue throughout the film (most the outfits, the walls & furniture in the Thompson home) this is probably in contrast to Freddy's bright red sweater & the bloodshed he causes. The front door which you saw often (also a bright blue) & how it was changed to red in later films.
theres just something awesome and special about czs videos man
NoES is to this day my favorite horror/slasher film. Ive been waiting for you to cover this franchise, thank you CZ!!
Yo, you doing Freddy now, it's about time. can't wait for the horror history video, a major background to cover.
The Birds homages throughout the film was an amazing spot. Seen it about hundred times and never noticed.
Very cool never picked up on these and have been a fan of this franchise for decades.
I recently saw the first 3 nightmare on elm Street movies so thanks for this video
Fun fact! Walter Joseph Kovacs, who later went to play Freddy Krueger in the remake, he actually auditioned for Johnny Depp's part but didn't get it😮😮 and to see him play Freddy years later it's quite ironic😊
I just thought of something. Scream also has a scene with a boyfriend sneaking into the main protagonists bedroom. The killer, Skeet Urlic looks a lot like Depp. I'm positive Craven did this casting on purpose.
I love it! I'm a HUGE horror fan and Nancy Thompson is the Best Final Girl in my opinion. Love your videos.
A nightmare on elm street
Twin sisters Heather and Helen are being terrorized in their sleep by Freddy Krueger for the crimes of what their cop father did to him a year ago. But when they realize their dream powers are telekinesis they use that against Freddy to try to defeat the dream monster.
Tagline : The nightmare that started on elm street. I think this would be a great way to reintroduce the events that happened to Freddy and the first teens he targeted. Then end with present time at western hills and you hear a teen talking to his therapist and we see he’s talking to Nancy Thompson
That's pretty good.
I encourage you to write and expand on it.
There's definitely something there.
Great video!🤘🏻👍🏻🇺🇲
I came to watch a things you missed episode and instead received a very thoughtful analysis on repression and divorce. Holy CRAP I love this channel.
Side-note: I suffered from recurring nightmares for around 30 odd years…of Freddy Krueger. Of my childhood fears, he stuck with me the longest. So I watch anything I can on him now to fight that subconscious fear as much as possible. Great video. Excited for the rest of the series.
Me too!
He scared me that much I had nightmares for years!
I had a crush on Freddy since I saw the movie when I was 6 years old
Anyway now I'm in love with William Afton. Hey @CZsWorld now that William has his own cinematic universe, you can do videos on him!! Can't let matpat have all the fun.
In terms of biblical references, the "virgin" part might have actually meant something a little different. I remember watching a video about the virgin Mary giving birth to Jesus (if I find the video I'll add it to the comment). Back then, "virgin" meant free of sin or morally pure, the meaning just changed with time to someone who never had sex.
Horror protagonists are meant to be saints or pure of heart compared to the rest of the cast, automatically making them someone the audience wants to protect or see survive the movie.
Cabin in the Woods touched on that a little bit. Really, so did Scream.
@@nailsarelife Huh, I must have missed that. Thank you for telling me, I should rewatch them.
@@theroosterprince7760 For example, toward the end of Cabin in the Woods, Sigourney Weaver's character is explaining the rules to the last two survivors, and the chick says, "Me? Virgin?" Then, Sigourney Weaver says, "We work with what we've got," or something like that. Then, of course, Sidney isn't a virgin by the end of the first one, but she still survives. It's not an outright thing, but it's implied in both that you don't actually have to be today's definition of a virgin to survive.
@@nailsarelife That is genuinely interesting, I must have missed that part while watching the movie. it is nice to see that horror has evolved to be a little less judgemental on a person's sexual activities or have acknowledged how times have changed.
To me, it's just as fascinating to see how the meaning of words change overtime and how it's effected the horror genre specifically. It appears how the use of virgin in horror movies is circling back to its archaic origins
Was just about to mention Cabin in the woods but I see it's already been mentioned by @nailsarelife . 👍
one of my fav horror series
!
My hyperfixation on this franchise was such that you could quote a line and I could tell you, which movie, which character, whether they died, and if so, whether or not that death was referenced in New Nightmare.
I can’t wait for this series to continue its my favorite horror series with the third being my favorite
