Another thing that was missed the boy was switched as well on a recent road trip before the trip to the beach here are the clues 1. While on the beach the twins asked the boy what was he building he replied a tunnel 2. Before the switch the fake addie taught him how to speak fluently so that one day he could live on the surface 3. He couldn’t remember how his magic trick work thus resulting in the real boy getting burned 4. When the fake boy screamed that he was trapped the real addie aka red told the fake addie “THATS YOURS” hinting he was the fake boy 5. The real addie returned to the surface at the end and you find that out when she whistled the ittsy bitty spider which made the fake boy know that something was off about her but he brushed it off and put on his mask.
Aaron Roan I don’t think he was switched, but I do think he and his sister had a unique connection or where some how different because they were the offspring of a shadow person/clone. Something relating to that soul aspect between the originals and the shadows and I think maybe there was some shared awareness which is why he was making tunnels on the beach and what the daughter brought up the whole fluoride conspiracy thing and was wearing the rabbit shirt and they had the rabbit toys in the house

I've watched a couple of these videos and read the comments. No one has mentioned the frisbee that landed in front of Addy on the beach. Her friend makes reference to "coincidences" happening lately. The frisbee landed precisely on one of the blue circles on the beach towel. The towel was white, it had blue circles on it, and the frisbee was red with a Star on it. US

There's nothing else going on, the music pumps up, the mom is clearly just hooked at staring at the Frisbee and blanket, and it's given maybe ten full seconds of screen time in an era where the average screen cut is 2-3 seconds. That's an awful lot of effort and direction for something that's meaningless.
It didn't occur to me that red and Addie switched places, until that one scene where they are fighting, how red was graceful and calm while Addie kept getting more animalistic and kept making those gutteral and throat noises. And explains how red was the only one who could speak. Crazy plot twist my dudes.

DNZ 1014 she’s saying the reason she knew about the key is because she’s the orginial. Meaning she was the one who went to the grandparents house before she switched. So it also makes sense that shadow addy (posing as the real one) didn’t know about it because her parents wouldve assumed she already knew as a child because they told real addy about it before they swapped
I think the shadows would have souls if they lived above ground but considering they've lived their lives underground they're stripped of everything that gives people a soul; family, love etc.
The important thing about that is that the shot was filmed from the INSIDE of the car. Most of the time, those shots are from the outside. Suggesting the same but different.
At the beginning of the film when everyone was eating dinner, everyone but her is eating burgers while she is eating strawberries. It is kind of a hint that she is different because she ate raw rabbit underground so she is turned off by it.

John Turner, I really believe that CZsWorld is onto something. The son and daughter are both half shadow people. The son made a conscious effort to connect with and control his doppelgänger, in order to get him to step backwards into the fire. The sister didn’t attempt to control hers, so there was no example for us to draw from. I like the concept spoken about in the video- that control could be shifted between them.
The tethered Jeremiah 11:11 was the first one to kill his original, which is the dude carried by the ambulances. That's why his hands were bloody when Jason first saw him.

Jason isn't a tethered. What people are half-sensing is that Jason is a hybrid of clone/human, as is Zora, because Adelaide (a clone) made offspring with Gabe (a human). Thus, Jason and Zora struggle to behave fully human. This is more apparent in Jason, because he is still young (and this is why he still has such control over his doppelganger; my theory is that Pluto is not as good at resisting his "mirror instinct" as his family is because he is young and is still learning how). We see that Adelaide strangely insists that Jason "get in rhythm," and she shows him to snap his fingers, but notice that both Adelaide and Jason are slightly off beat. We also see Zora describe Jason as weird and unable to focus properly. You might ask why Adelaide doesn't insist that Zora get in rhythm too; I think that this is because, as Zora is much older than Jason, she has already taught Zora some of the basics about behaving human. Nonetheless, we see that Zora is very asocial, and she neglects interacting with anybody at the beach, instead remaining glued to her phone and even moving away when the twins try to talk to her. Even Adelaide, who is an adult and who went through therapy to teach her how to speak, dance, and make art and essentially be human, struggles to behave human. The first big hint at this is when her white friend tries to have a conversation with her at the beach, and Adelaide completely fails at engaging in the conversation and says that she just isn't good at talking. The biggest hint, however, is in the battle between Adelaide and Red. While Adelaide is extremely sloppy in her fighting and can't seem to hit Red, Red moves with a clean precision. This is because despite Adelaide having been on the surface and thus being the one to receive dance lessons, Adelaide isn't human and Red is, and therefore Red was able to master dance while Adelaide couldn't. No matter how badly Adelaide wants to replace Red, she can never be as human as Red is, and neither can her children. This is probably why Jason puts a mask on at the end. Like his mother, he is only pretending to be human. This donning of the mask could also represent protection; Jason knows that something isn't right, but he is putting on his mask and choosing to ignore it, and is protecting himself from wrong. Of course, Jason doesn't fully grasp any of this; his donning of the mask is a symbol for the audience to dissect, not Jason secretly going "hehe mother yes we are both evil clones, I support you."

Imo, I think Adelaide did something awful, but I don’t think this makes her evil because A) she has no soul, so does she even fully understand the depth of her actions? Is she like a human, putting someone else down to selfishly save her ass? Or is she like a wild dog ripping apart another animal because it is scared and doesn’t know what else to do? And B) what else could she have done, really? She was a child when she kidnapped Red, so should we hold her to that misdeed? Should we really blame a soulless child for not coming up with the idea to, as Red says, save herself AND her clone? How would a tethered and a surface human live side by side anyways, considering their actions can control the other? And in the end, both are victims, one of the falsehoods of the American Dream and one of outright oppression. Obviously we would rather live in the American Dream than in the tethered’s underground environment... but my point is that neither Red or Adelaide can live to their fullest, even if they hadn’t switched places. At least in switching places, the tethered had the opportunity to escape, and were able to make their statement. I only said that line at the end of my theory to emphasize that Jason wasn’t sitting there directly thinking “ah my mom is a clone and I am a clone and we are secret clones together hehe.” He is merely putting on a mask and, as the American Dream wills, and as his mother wills, letting everything “go back to the way it was” even though he senses that something is wrong.

The reason that the original Addy had the broken english and broken voice was the lack of using it and the trauma affected the vocal cords, the reason fake Addy didnt speak after coming to the surface was just because she didn't know how to speak.
You also gotta keep in mind the original girl was probably like 7 - 8 years old maybe... and the only education she had was 3rd - 4th grade English, so she had to struggle learning by herself for many years down there.

I'll admit I felt a bit disappointed with this film at first, probably because I'd hyped it up so much in my head. But then I went home and COULDN'T STOP thinking about it. He made a ridiculously creepy and thought provoking film. I searched for theories and tried to make up my own conclusions. I felt unsettled, and didn't wanna go to the bathroom alone. Okay. Jordan Peele has said before that GET OUT was a "social horror" where the underlying theme of racial tensions is what drives the film. He's said that he wants to do a whole series of these, and this is most likely the second. I've only seen the movie once and I've been stewing about it for an hour, and this is just my opinion, but I think the underlying theme is poverty. The copies live underground, near or in the sewers. Red mentions that they eat cold, raw rabbit, they don't have good quality of life, and everyone on the surface takes what they have for granted. (Red would know, she once had these things). The copies are the impoverished, the lowest class. Then we have Adelaide's family. They have what appears to be a vacation home, but they also don't have top of the line stuff. They remark that their friends have better boats, cars, etc. They have enough. They are the middle class. The friends are the upper class. They have the nicest home, newest technology, etc. BUT they all hate each other. They drink all day. They barely talk to one another. They're comfortable. That's why they die without a fight. The middle class fights because they're forced to. They're being challenged. The lowest class fights because they HAVE to. Something's gotta give. It's not just one family. It's an entire population that needs to help each other out from one end of the nation to the other. The cherry on top is Adelaide. She rose up from the lower class (through devious means) and fights tooth and nail to protect her rung on the totem pole, but she also sympathizes with the copied kids who die. She takes pity on them. She sees herself in them, they're just trying to do what she succeeded in.
Also, the impoverished clones were deeply aware of the originals while the originals were totally unaware of the ones on the bottom. They didn't know and couldn't have cared. To me, it represents how the wealthy and privileged are out of touch with the poor and disenfranchised
the vacation home wasn't theirs it was the rich friends other spare vaca home thats why they said white people when the tethered found the other key the rich family leaves outside incase they lose the key.
My other take away from this movie is that we have to destroy the evil part of ourselves; that part of us that causes us to self-sabbotage. There's a constant battle between good and evil raging inside us and if we just suppress the evil, rather than destroying it completely it always comes back to haunt us. We must confront the wicked side and totally annihilate it in order to have true peace in our lives. Although the fake Adelaide chained up the real one 30 years prior, that was not enough because we notice that fake Adelaide was constantly living in fear. Had she killed her back then, there would be no fear. In any case, both Adelaides are versions of the same person so she was really fighting with herself.

I've never read Hamlet myself, but I feel like naming the "Alexa" gadget "Ophelia" was clever. Ophelia was driven mad by the dualities in her life, such as weather or not Hamlet loves her or is only using her, and weather she is as pure as her family sees her as or the object Hamlet sees her as. She also ends up killing herself, and you can't get much more heavy-handed than that.
The man with the 11:11 sign in the ambulance is the same one who we see in the flashback. He was killed/injured by his double, who, with bloodied hands, goes to stand on the beach and start the chain.

I think scissors also allude to ones in Greek mythology. In Greek mythology on of the Fates names Atropos would decide whether one’s life would end by literally cutting the thread of life. And in Greek mythology when one dies they go to the Underworld.
This was the first connection I made while watching this. I grew up watching Hercules, a lot! So I thought, "What's the matter with these sthithers!" Lol then I thought, "The scissors are them cutting the thread of their person (ending their life) OR the separating of the two fates.
You missed one that I thought was very interesting. There's scene in Josh and Kitty's house where Adelaide is tied up. Kitty's double makes as if she's going to cut Adelaide's face, but stops. She goes back to the mirror she was looking in and starts cutting herself. If you notice, she already has some scars on her face. That's because she's just like her double, who thinks Adelaide is perfect. Kitty went and has had some plastic surgery to retain her looks, I'm guessing the double also "had some work done" around the same time.
This makes more sense since the rest of the family isn’t interested in the boat at all. If they had knew the dad truly liked it, they would’ve bonded over it somehow

5:42 I see why your saying that. But I disagree. Part of why the twist ending works so well is because the way the film is edited. It leads one to believe Addy was simply traumatized by something that happened in the fun house (and there was never an abduction and switch) Less was more in this case and immediately cutting to her (the escaped shadow Addy) in therapy with no immediate explanation helps maintain the facade.
Spasmodic Dysphonia (I think that's how it's spelled) is what Lupita studied for Red's voice. Apparently, it can be brought on by physical or emotional trauma. Very interesting stuff...
The Jeremiah 11:11 guy was the first original victim we seen bcuz his double was standing on the beach with blood on his hands. Waiting for the others to connect the chains.

Another symbol of mirroring is that when Red first starts speaking (and the speech patterns throughout), she isn't speaking by breathing out. She is speaking while breathing IN! It's really hard to do and is another subtle demonstration of opposites.
I also felt like this was the use of the rabbits. There is a rabbit at the door, and then rabbits scattered throughout the path. Like Alice, down the rabbit hole...
Maya Holt The mask the boy wears is the wolf man. Universal made this movie so they don’t have any rights to Chewbacca’s image. Jaws is also a Universal property.
Also, in the first encounter between Adeline and her double, the doppelgänger choked her and dragged her below. Which can signify her first symbolic death. Then in the final scene, it’s 30 years later and the fake Adeline chokes the real one again, but this time the final death. And that’s another reference to the elements. Dad dies by water, daughter by earth (tree), son by fire and mom by air (or lack thereof).
After watching it all of the way through, I finally understood that the bloody man standing the beach was the double of homeless man that was killed at the beginning being wheeled into the ambulance, he was the first double to be untethered and was standing on the beach waiting for the others to come and finish the chain.
But if there had never been a switch you would have been fine with red ade being killed? I think that's the point. Look at how in this country people are valued or devalued simply based on where they were born or into what family? Wasn't that really the only difference between the two Addie's? One was born above ground and one was born under ground.

I knew a guy in high school who took a vow of silence for a month and his voice basically sounded like Reds when he started talking again. I think that the function of this strange answer is directing the viewer towards all that is contained in the film which is likely to be apprehended in terms of class struggle
You could also tell fake adie was fake because she was starting to behave and act like the tethers and Jason was starting to notice. I also think that fake adie didn't really remember she was fake until the events with the tethers started to unfold.
I think she knew exactly but was afraid to break the facade. You can tel in her actions that she knew. I kept getting frustrated when “Adelaide” got out of the car to check on the tethered daughter and rather than ending her tried to keep her calm in her final moments. Also when the tethered version of her son was walking back into the fire she focused on him with her hands out to him rather than be concerned with her actual son.
Three things: 1. When the shadows first came to the house, Addy told Zora to put shoes on cuz addy knew that she would have to run which also leads to zora doing track. 2: When the shadow of zora was in the tree dying, you could see addy wanting to help her because she knew that that is actually her daughter. 3: shadow addy told other addy to chain herself to the table, that goes back to when she was a kid and the switch happened. Addy was chained to the bed and left alone. Question: what do you think Jason knows about his mom, because at the end they look at each other like he knows about the switch
Another thing when shadow addy told her son to get on beat she was snapping on every up beat the exact opposite of the normal beat, further showing us she is not who she seems to be.
Maya Travis he was replaced the summer before, that’s why he didn’t know his magic tricks and was cursing up a storm. Remember he was building a tunnel in the sand castle and the twins said he was weird.

The scene with the burning car and Jason's doppelganger, Jason can be seen saying that 'it's a trap' and Jason's doppelganger could've been the one controlling Jason. Therefore Jason's doppelganger sacrificed himself to setup a trap and enable red to kidnap Jason.
Legend Hubbard tethered Jason had a burnt face from being a pyromaniac, he’s the one who died. Adelaide simply feels sympathy for the tethered versions of her children because she realizes they could have been her children had she not made it to the surface. Remember how she responded to Zora’s tethered? She was very sympathetic and emotional while she was watching her die impaled by the tree. She kept trying to reach out to her and calm her.
I think you missed the fact that everybody said that the son was strange and diffrent, when the twins kicked what we thought was a sandcastle over his reply was he was digging tunnels, also how he was completely unbothered by the events that was taking place, and how the mother in the red didn't kill him she made sure he was safe kind of made me believe he was also switched at some point and time

One detail that I haven't heard anyone talk about is the son, Jason always wearing a mask over his head - similar to Jason Voorhees, son of Mrs Voorhees who was the original killer/evil in Friday the 13th - just like we find out adelaide was the original mom/evil from underground.. I know that one might be a bit of a stretch but if you think about it the reference starts to make sense! Thanks for the awesome breakdown so soon after the movie was released!! You touched on many details that alot of people missed, I can't wait to watch it again to look for all of the Easter eggs and see the movie from "red's" perspective a bit more.

Ithe song is a double entendre. "I got five on it" really means "I have the situation under control". That's why the father says the song is not about drugs but the daughter says it is.
One of the things I thought was neat when I saw it the second time were all of the references to the theme of how we are our own worst enemy and how we are the root of all of our problems in America (and the world in general). When the family gets to the lake house and Gabe dabs and the kids groan he says "don't judge me". And when Jason swears at the dinner table he says "when you point your finger at someone else, you have 3 more pointing back at you" You also missed young Red lining up the animals in the sandbox when she is watching Addy's parents at the psychologist's office. Obviously foreshadowing the end of the movie but also the connection they share
Throughout the film there was always this feeling of the rest of the family alienating the dad and how the kids including Adalaide were very ANTISOCIAL. It made it seem like the daughter was just being a teenager too enclosed in her technology and the boy just being a “weird” kid seeking attention but all and all we find out the kids are half doppelgänger and that the doppelgängers are naturally nonverbal, antisocial in a sense. There were so many subtle hints thrown at us
I actually think the son was switched off also he didn’t eat when everybody else was eating at the table and remember his mom said come on you have to eat this time he was off beat with his mom in the car he couldn’t remember the magic trick and the dad said he hasn’t been the same since last summer when they visit his mother at that house and they thought it was trauma due to her death and Jason being so close to the grandma and remember they said he was missing for while then too and when Jason made the Jason In the red go in the fire the one in red was snapping on beat but the so called real Jason couldn’t even snap on beat and also when they was in the closet the red Jason lit the lighter for the so called real Jason he had to been switched
You know what, that's a great observation. I just wonder how his double changed so much in just a year. He went from a dark hole underground to knowing how to talk and function like everyone else and how the original lost his ability to speak and pretty much moves as a dog would. I just think his tether had more control over him. That's what made him such an awkward child. The daughter is also a little off. Probably bc they are both half tether.
I don't think Jason was switched. One think the surface people could do was control their Reds, remember when Gabe slammed his head on the boat and knocked out Abraham, Jason could do the same but clone Adelaide could not. I think Jason understood what its like to be othered therefore they had a common understanding.
I don't think any of the tethered could talk....only Addy. Addy sounded like that from damage done to her throat as a child. Her tethered couldn't talk before Therapy .. School...help..etc.
Lupita Nyong'o said that she took inspiration for the voice from the speech patterns of people who have a condition called spasmodic dysphonia which is a condition caused by trauma to the vocal cords, but she said in an interview that she was thinking about how would a voice sound if you'd spent years not speaking. I think it might be a combination of she had damage to her throat when the other Addy choked her in the funhouse and the fact that she didn't speak English for years, only communicating with the tethered in their own form of language(the clicks, yells, etc.).
And the T-pose guy looked like he was holding hands with two imaginary people on the beach, having killed his other self, with blood on his hands, waiting for the other tethered people to come and join him. I think later he is seen in the line of tethers on the beach, probably wrong lol

Another thing that was missed the boy was switched as well on a recent road trip before the trip to the beach here are the clues
1. While on the beach the twins asked the boy what was he building he replied a tunnel 2. Before the switch the fake addie taught him how to speak fluently so that one day he could live on the surface 3. He couldn’t remember how his magic trick work thus resulting in the real boy getting burned 4. When the fake boy screamed that he was trapped the real addie aka red told the fake addie “THATS YOURS” hinting he was the fake boy 5. The real addie returned to the surface at the end and you find that out when she whistled the ittsy bitty spider which made the fake boy know that something was off about her but he brushed it off and put on his mask.
Also the teams were tied 11 to 11.
Aaron Roan I don’t think he was switched, but I do think he and his sister had a unique connection or where some how different because they were the offspring of a shadow person/clone. Something relating to that soul aspect between the originals and the shadows and I think maybe there was some shared awareness which is why he was making tunnels on the beach and what the daughter brought up the whole fluoride conspiracy thing and was wearing the rabbit shirt and they had the rabbit toys in the house

That's an awful lot of effort and direction for something that's meaningless.
It didn't occur to me that red and Addie switched places, until that one scene where they are fighting, how red was graceful and calm while Addie kept getting more animalistic and kept making those gutteral and throat noises. And explains how red was the only one who could speak.

The son made a conscious effort to connect with and control his doppelgänger, in order to get him to step backwards into the fire. The sister didn’t attempt to control hers, so there was no example for us to draw from. I like the concept spoken about in the video- that control could be shifted between them.
He controlled his shadow by always playing with matches, except the the shadow version was severely burned.

I think the not speaking part is more about the fact that the "shadows" never learned to talk. That's why Red is the only one that can.
Jason isn't a tethered. What people are half-sensing is that Jason is a hybrid of clone/human, as is Zora, because Adelaide (a clone) made offspring with Gabe (a human). Thus, Jason and Zora struggle to behave fully human. This is more apparent in Jason, because he is still young (and this is why he still has such control over his doppelganger; my theory is that Pluto is not as good at resisting his "mirror instinct" as his family is because he is young and is still learning how). We see that Adelaide strangely insists that Jason "get in rhythm," and she shows him to snap his fingers, but notice that both Adelaide and Jason are slightly off beat. We also see Zora describe Jason as weird and unable to focus properly. You might ask why Adelaide doesn't insist that Zora get in rhythm too; I think that this is because, as Zora is much older than Jason, she has already taught Zora some of the basics about behaving human. Nonetheless, we see that Zora is very asocial, and she neglects interacting with anybody at the beach, instead remaining glued to her phone and even moving away when the twins try to talk to her. Even Adelaide, who is an adult and who went through therapy to teach her how to speak, dance, and make art and essentially be human, struggles to behave human. The first big hint at this is when her white friend tries to have a conversation with her at the beach, and Adelaide completely fails at engaging in the conversation and says that she just isn't good at talking. The biggest hint, however, is in the battle between Adelaide and Red. While Adelaide is extremely sloppy in her fighting and can't seem to hit Red, Red moves with a clean precision. This is because despite Adelaide having been on the surface and thus being the one to receive dance lessons, Adelaide isn't human and Red is, and therefore Red was able to master dance while Adelaide couldn't. No matter how badly Adelaide wants to replace Red, she can never be as human as Red is, and neither can her children.
This is probably why Jason puts a mask on at the end. Like his mother, he is only pretending to be human. This donning of the mask could also represent protection; Jason knows that something isn't right, but he is putting on his mask and choosing to ignore it, and is protecting himself from wrong. Of course, Jason doesn't fully grasp any of this; his donning of the mask is a symbol for the audience to dissect, not Jason secretly going "hehe mother yes we are both evil clones, I support you."
daisydaisy well I wouldn’t say evil because through they’re life they never did anything wrong (besides Adelaide replacing red) so I doubt that with this information that they are clones wouldn’t just say “well I’m evil now” but an amazing theory other than the quote at the end

Imo, I think Adelaide did something awful, but I don’t think this makes her evil because A) she has no soul, so does she even fully understand the depth of her actions? Is she like a human, putting someone else down to selfishly save her ass? Or is she like a wild dog ripping apart another animal because it is scared and doesn’t know what else to do? And B) what else could she have done, really? She was a child when she kidnapped Red, so should we hold her to that misdeed? Should we really blame a soulless child for not coming up with the idea to, as Red says, save herself AND her clone? How would a tethered and a surface human live side by side anyways, considering their actions can control the other? And in the end, both are victims, one of the falsehoods of the American Dream and one of outright oppression. Obviously we would rather live in the American Dream than in the tethered’s underground environment... but my point is that neither Red or Adelaide can live to their fullest, even if they hadn’t switched places. At least in switching places, the tethered had the opportunity to escape, and were able to make their statement. I only said that line at the end of my theory to emphasize that Jason wasn’t sitting there directly thinking “ah my mom is a clone and I am a clone and we are secret clones together hehe.” He is merely putting on a mask and, as the American Dream wills, and as his mother wills, letting everything “go back to the way it was” even though he senses that something is wrong.

The reason that the original Addy had the broken english and broken voice was the lack of using it and the trauma affected the vocal cords, the reason fake Addy didnt speak after coming to the surface was just because she didn't know how to speak.

Okay. Jordan Peele has said before that GET OUT was a "social horror" where the underlying theme of racial tensions is what drives the film. He's said that he wants to do a whole series of these, and this is most likely the second. I've only seen the movie once and I've been stewing about it for an hour, and this is just my opinion, but I think the underlying theme is poverty.
The copies live underground, near or in the sewers.
Red mentions that they eat cold, raw rabbit, they don't have good quality of life, and everyone on the surface takes what they have for granted. (Red would know, she once had these things).
The copies are the impoverished, the lowest class.
Then we have Adelaide's family. They have what appears to be a vacation home, but they also don't have top of the line stuff. They remark that their friends have better boats, cars, etc. They have enough. They are the middle class.
The friends are the upper class. They have the nicest home, newest technology, etc. BUT they all hate each other. They drink all day. They barely talk to one another. They're comfortable. That's why they die without a fight.
The middle class fights because they're forced to. They're being challenged.
The lowest class fights because they HAVE to. Something's gotta give. It's not just one family. It's an entire population that needs to help each other out from one end of the nation to the other.
The cherry on top is Adelaide. She rose up from the lower class (through devious means) and fights tooth and nail to protect her rung on the totem pole, but she also sympathizes with the copied kids who die. She takes pity on them. She sees herself in them, they're just trying to do what she succeeded in.
Also, the impoverished clones were deeply aware of the originals while the originals were totally unaware of the ones on the bottom. They didn't know and couldn't have cared. To me, it represents how the wealthy and privileged are out of touch with the poor and disenfranchised
the vacation home wasn't theirs it was the rich friends other spare vaca home thats why they said white people when the tethered found the other key the rich family leaves outside incase they lose the key.
My other take away from this movie is that we have to destroy the evil part of ourselves; that part of us that causes us to self-sabbotage. There's a constant battle between good and evil raging inside us and if we just suppress the evil, rather than destroying it completely it always comes back to haunt us. We must confront the wicked side and totally annihilate it in order to have true peace in our lives. Although the fake Adelaide chained up the real one 30 years prior, that was not enough because we notice that fake Adelaide was constantly living in fear. Had she killed her back then, there would be no fear. In any case, both Adelaides are versions of the same person so she was really fighting with herself.

I've never read Hamlet myself, but I feel like naming the "Alexa" gadget "Ophelia" was clever. Ophelia was driven mad by the dualities in her life, such as weather or not Hamlet loves her or is only using her, and weather she is as pure as her family sees her as or the object Hamlet sees her as. She also ends up killing herself, and you can't get much more heavy-handed than that.
That's an interesting take on it -- I was trying to think of some connection to Shakespeare's Ophelia but never made that connection!

I think scissors also allude to ones in Greek mythology. In Greek mythology on of the Fates names Atropos would decide whether one’s life would end by literally cutting the thread of life. And in Greek mythology when one dies they go to the Underworld.
This was the first connection I made while watching this. I grew up watching Hercules, a lot! So I thought, "What's the matter with these sthithers!" Lol then I thought, "The scissors are them cutting the thread of their person (ending their life) OR the separating of the two fates.

You missed one that I thought was very interesting. There's scene in Josh and Kitty's house where Adelaide is tied up. Kitty's double makes as if she's going to cut Adelaide's face, but stops. She goes back to the mirror she was looking in and starts cutting herself. If you notice, she already has some scars on her face. That's because she's just like her double, who thinks Adelaide is perfect. Kitty went and has had some plastic surgery to retain her looks, I'm guessing the double also "had some work done" around the same time.

It leads one to believe Addy was simply traumatized by something that happened in the fun house (and there was never an abduction and switch) Less was more in this case and immediately cutting to her (the escaped shadow Addy) in therapy with no immediate explanation helps maintain the facade.

Also, in the first encounter between Adeline and her double, the doppelgänger choked her and dragged her below. Which can signify her first symbolic death. Then in the final scene, it’s 30 years later and the fake Adeline chokes the real one again, but this time the final death. And that’s another reference to the elements. Dad dies by water, daughter by earth (tree), son by fire and mom by air (or lack thereof).

I kept getting frustrated when “Adelaide” got out of the car to check on the tethered daughter and rather than ending her tried to keep her calm in her final moments. Also when the tethered version of her son was walking back into the fire she focused on him with her hands out to him rather than be concerned with her actual son.

When the shadows first came to the house, Addy told Zora to put shoes on cuz addy knew that she would have to run which also leads to zora doing track. 2: When the shadow of zora was in the tree dying, you could see addy wanting to help her because she knew that that is actually her daughter. 3: shadow addy told other addy to chain herself to the table, that goes back to when she was a kid and the switch happened. Addy was chained to the bed and left alone. Question: what do you think Jason knows about his mom, because at the end they look at each other like he knows about the switch
Another thing when shadow addy told her son to get on beat she was snapping on every up beat the exact opposite of the normal beat, further showing us she is not who she seems to be.

Adelaide simply feels sympathy for the tethered versions of her children because she realizes they could have been her children had she not made it to the surface. Remember how she responded to Zora’s tethered? She was very sympathetic and emotional while she was watching her die impaled by the tree. She kept trying to reach out to her and calm her.
I think you missed the fact that everybody said that the son was strange and diffrent, when the twins kicked what we thought was a sandcastle over his reply was he was digging tunnels, also how he was completely unbothered by the events that was taking place, and how the mother in the red didn't kill him she made sure he was safe kind of made me believe he was also switched at some point and time

Ithe song is a double entendre. "I got five on it" really means "I have the situation under control". That's why the father says the song is not about drugs but the daughter says it is.

One of the things I thought was neat when I saw it the second time were all of the references to the theme of how we are our own worst enemy and how we are the root of all of our problems in America (and the world in general). When the family gets to the lake house and Gabe dabs and the kids groan he says "don't judge me". And when Jason swears at the dinner table he says "when you point your finger at someone else, you have 3 more pointing back at you"
You also missed young Red lining up the animals in the sandbox when she is watching Addy's parents at the psychologist's office. Obviously foreshadowing the end of the movie but also the connection they share
Throughout the film there was always this feeling of the rest of the family alienating the dad and how the kids including Adalaide were very ANTISOCIAL. It made it seem like the daughter was just being a teenager too enclosed in her technology and the boy just being a “weird” kid seeking attention but all and all we find out the kids are half doppelgänger and that the doppelgängers are naturally nonverbal, antisocial in a sense. There were so many subtle hints thrown at us
I actually think the son was switched off also he didn’t eat when everybody else was eating at the table and remember his mom said come on you have to eat this time he was off beat with his mom in the car he couldn’t remember the magic trick and the dad said he hasn’t been the same since last summer when they visit his mother at that house and they thought it was trauma due to her death and Jason being so close to the grandma and remember they said he was missing for while then too and when Jason made the Jason In the red go in the fire the one in red was snapping on beat but the so called real Jason couldn’t even snap on beat and also when they was in the closet the red Jason lit the lighter for the so called real Jason he had to been switched

You know what, that's a great observation. I just wonder how his double changed so much in just a year. He went from a dark hole underground to knowing how to talk and function like everyone else and how the original lost his ability to speak and pretty much moves as a dog would. I just think his tether had more control over him. That's what made him such an awkward child. The daughter is also a little off. Probably bc they are both half tether.

One think the surface people could do was control their Reds, remember when Gabe slammed his head on the boat and knocked out Abraham, Jason could do the same but clone Adelaide could not. I don't think any of the tethered could talk....only Addy. Addy sounded like that from damage done to her throat as a child. Her tethered couldn't talk before Therapy .. School...help..etc.

I think it might be a combination of she had damage to her throat when the other Addy choked her in the funhouse and the fact that she didn't speak English for years, only communicating with the tethered in their own form of language(the clicks, yells, etc.).
