  • "Slip Away" off Welsh Rock/Metal group Budgie's "Bandolier" album of 1975.
One of the most underrated albums and bands of all time...
    Lyrics:
In the morning light of day
    Leaves are falling
    Slip away
    Slip away with you
And the reason, men are told
    Is the feeling
    Of never growing old
    Growing old with you
In the daytime feel like it's almost gone
And the evening gently lingers on
And the feeling warms my glow
    Faking time
    Taking time, we know
In the morning light of day
    Leaves are falling
    Slip away
    Slip away with you
    Gently slip away
    Gently slip away
    Gently slip away

This song blew me away; when I listened to it, I immediately had to listen to it again because I couldn't believe how beautiful it was. Too bad it's only four minutes...

They might be underrated in most other places but there is a huge fan base in Poland. Budgie is exceptionally popular there, always have been.

I've liked this tune ever since Bandolier hit the record stores.
Between my buddoes and I we had every album released in America, and maybe some import versions as well.
Strange how over the decades some of the songs from our youth seem to change meaning for us as we travel through this life.
After fighting cancer for a year now, the veil is lifting and things are percieved with stark clarity and bold truths emerge.
The song was a love song when I was 18, now it's a sweet farewell.
    Gently slipaway ~

This is one of the great quirks of Budgie. A lot of their stuff sounds the way you'd expect from classic rock, but they also have really mellow songs like this, too.

Budgie were arguably the grand daddies of metal, and inspired groups like Metallica, etc. And yet there is so much more to them than that. This is a beautifully haunting song.
I don't know the inspiration for it in reality, but in my imagination it's what happens when a grungy, unshaven, miserable, long haired, smelly teenage lad gets his first girlfriend. Suddenly he's this angelic clean shaven face, short hair, a clean shirt on, and a huge happy demeanour.........lol!!

How does such a talented 70's band like Budgie, fly under the radar of fame & familiarity.I only discovered them a year or so ago, and I am Slipping Away with their rhythmic mastery. Budgie - Buch, Brawny & Brilliant. Cosentino, Perth West Australia. 2/1/19 :)

@comeonher Nah, just like Possessed was early out in death metal, it had its roots in hard rock for sure, and Budgie is of the same nature. But still, I think this has the spirit of metal for sure. The ties between something like this and Motörhead or a song from Iron Maiden like 'Prodigal Son' are clear to me. But Budgie also had many disparate influences they made work. Afterall, they were multiverse geniuses, of a very early age. But yeah, it's metal, perhaps not like one is used to it though
