Byron Scott was one of the first of the modern super-athletic, 6'3"/6'4" combo guards in the nba. Very explosive.

In your footage, we see that he had a pretty good vertical jump.
Scott was also the perfect co-guard for Magic Johnson. One of Magic's weakness was to defend, particulary on smaller and faster point guards. In many games, we see that Scott matchs up the point guard (efficiently), allowing Johnson to defend on the 2 or the 3.

yes and Gary Vitti goes in depth into that defensive burden placed on Scott since Magic was too big to chase around guards and especially if they were a scoring threat, Scott would be assigned to them. Its not coincidence that when Cooper left that Scott was beat more often as that burden became too much especially in the 1991 Finals.

As a kid I remember that #4 fella Byron Scott flying through the air dunking on Big Men and that jumper was a thing of beauty, he was a very valuable piece to that Showtime Lakers Era! How about Bill Laimbeer or Joe Johnson.

13:10 people remember Scott as a great shooter, but THIS is what I loved about him. No fear- aggressive in his dunks

Showtime fan growing up. Had a text, stat game called Lance Hafner basketball for the Commodore 64. 1988 was the most recent season, and there was Byron Scott...top of the roster, above the magnificent triumvirate of Magic, Kareem, and Worthy. That's how good Byron Scott was

never knew they had that game for the C-64! There was another pixelated basketball game where they'd only clap after each basket and every shot was a line drive. Forgot the name but then we'd always say "Byron Scott..." when shooting a long jumper.

    B. SCOTT!! BABY B! I LOVED HIS GAME! HE WAS ALWAYS TOUGH! HE QUIETLY SET THE TONE FOR LA WITH HIS OUTSIDE JUMPER OPENING UP THE FLOOR AND HIS SNEAKY ATHLETICISM AND TOUGHNESS!! ONE OF MY FAVORITES TO WATCH GROWING UP IN THE 80'S!!

Hooray! You used my suggestion. Growing up he was my favorite alongside Magic. Worthy and Kareem were more notable, but his style was always so much fun to watch. He really improved Showtime, which says quite a lot

Hard to believe he didn't even get a Western All-STAR Reserve nod??? Wow! Just his dunking and shooting alone was feared even by MJ.

His 1988 all star snub is without a doubt the most outrageous in history. You failed to mention the 53 percent from the field....for the season!

I was born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. Sonics and Blazers fan. Japanese-American and male. I HATE Byron Scott!! BUT, that's because he KILLED the Blazers. He's one key reason why the Blazers didn't win the title in 1990-91. I'm also furious that the Blazers and Sonics never picked him up later in his career, even if to keep him from killing them, AGAIN. Even as a Vancouver Grizzly, in 1995-96, Byron hit big 3-pointers to beat the Blazers in TWO games. In the gym, during shootarounds, I like to practice Byron Scott post-up turnaround jumpers, Byron Scott 17-Footers, and Byron Scott defensive rebounds. I once made, during a solo shootaround, 4/4 Byron Scott (FIBA) 3-Pointers.

Byron Scott never being an all star is a joke. They should have selected him in 88 or 89
