    You are one of the first channels to mention the FWC shark permit. Most people scoff at it at the most or ignore it all together. I am glad you brought it up. Maybe a video just about the course would be good.

      I was part of the beta year. Same videos and information but the first year it seemed the test was more involved. I renew every year. Don’t want to give FWC an opportunity to ticket me for a FREE permit. It has some good info that googans need to know. I’m a shark fisherman from Tennessee btw. Spend about 6 weeks a year on the sand.

      When you're committed to fishing for big game and especially sharks you've got to be smart about your moves. The sport draws enough attention as it is and I fully agree with you. Thanks again for visiting my channel and leaving this comment.

    I landed 27 sharks from Aug-Sept 2021 at Satellite Beach Florida. Probably lost another 15-20 sharks that either cut me off or pulled the hook. Great recommendations in the tackle to use. However, I'd never use a 5000 size reel. The smallest I've ever gone with is Penn Battle 2 6000 reel. The extra 1000 size up makes a huge difference. 30 lbs braid is a minimum. I usually go with 40 lbs braid. Your reel looks rather small on that huge pole. I find that anything over 10 foot pole is difficult to handle. My sweet spot is 9-10 foot medium-heavy pole. Good luck finding your next PB. Wishing you Tight lines Guys.

      Awesome info in your comment here Mike. I’m a satellite beach Berkeley street ex-local! To tell you the truth you think your gear is worthy until that big angry fish shows up and humbles you. I’ve got an 8000 sized reel now that will fare up to some solid sharks now.

      I actually love the 12 footers for sharks call me crazy! Matt prefers 10 footers as well. Tight lines and hopefully we can connect on the sand one of these days.

      I have 50lb braid how much lb leader should I use

    • @mikeroj5427
      @mikeroj5427 2 роки тому +2

      @@THEBIGK4HUN4 just 1 persons opinion. If your target is sharks, I start with at least an 8/0 heavy gauge circle hook. I then use between 18-24 inches of wire leader. Then comes what I consider my shock leader of mono line. The wire is to keep the sharks teeth from cutting thru the line. I've fished without any wire in the past and have had sharks cut thru 300 lbs mono leader in under 2 minutes. The wire is good insurance from their sharp teeth. I personally use 200-300 lbs mono shock leader which goes between the wire leader and my main line. I use approx 3-4 feet of it. Sharks have very tough fins and skin. The 200-300 lbs mono line keeps the body of the shark from cutting thru my line. If you get a spinner shark or super aggressive Blacktip that likes to jump and breach the water, this mono leader will also help play the role of a shock absorber when they spin and jump. Then I'd tie all that into your 50 lbs braid main line. I'm not sure what size reel you'll be working with, but you'll want to make sure you have at least 250 yards of braided line. OR.... If your in the Melbourne FL area after July 25th 2022, shoot me a response and I'll personally show you how I put my rigs together and we can consider doing some early evening surf fishing together

    I fish from Pompano, up to Stuart. Had a good afternoon off of I believe it’s called Flagler Beach.,Astonishingly I’ve done good right off Pompano beach using a live jack.
    I have a question, how do I know what beach will be good for blacktips and spinners and what time of day. Is this a tide thing or what.
    I appreciate any help. I just went out the these areas at dusk not knowing if that beach or time would really work.
    Thankyou,
    Ray

      Quite honestly it’s a “you get what you get” situation unless you’re fishing the Blacktip migration then you can bet most of the sharks hooked will be black tips. I don’t have any specific beaches for specific sharks. Best of luck out there and Tight Lines!

      I was fishing just a bit south of the inlet. This wind has been terrible for our water quality but if you can make it to Sebastian or further south you’ll find way more quality fish. Lots of sharks in the surf right now for the migration.

    Does it matter how far you get the bait offshore? Been a few years since I’ve done any surf fishing up in the panhandle and last time I did we used a buddy’s kayak to get the bait a 150-200 yards offshore, but I don’t think that’ll be an option for us this time. Also does time of day matter? I generally prefer doing it at night so you don’t have to deal with as many people but all these videos I watch tend to be during the day

    • @EastSideSurfFishing

      Night time is best during the summer, not too familiar with the gulf surf fishing but you have to go out a lot further to find the sharks from what I know. Best of luck 🤞

    question: what rod are you using in this video? Im fishing in NE Florida and im running a penn fierce IV combo 8000 reel rated for 40-65lb braided. from what i gather, id be safe going with an 80lb braided on the reel for 2.5ft reef sharks from the pier? currently using 50lb braided as it is within the manufacturer's suggested range, but from your experience could i go with 80lb braided on the 10ft rod?

    • @EastSideSurfFishing
      @EastSideSurfFishing  Рік тому +1

      I’d use 80 pound to fish from a bridge or anywhere there may be structure. You’re gonna need the extra strength if you get into a tight spot. Now you can definitely catch most sharks on 50. Heck I use 30 a lot! But… you’re gonna wanna be ready for a big one kinda how I lost one in this video.

    • @EastSideSurfFishing

      A couple Years of distance casting heavy weight. I know the sweet spots on my rods so I usually just load them and throw with technique vs power. Some folks use a glove or casting glove, which will definitely be needed if your hands have been wet and soggy.
