- In this video, Brian Flechsig at Mad River Outfitters goes fishing with our guide Josh McQueen at Lake Erie for Freshwater Drum, White Bass, Largemouth Bass and Smallmouth Bass. Needless to say, Lake Erie provides plenty of opportunity for the fly rod.

Thanks for tuning in - stay tuned, lots more coming!
Now I need to take my fly rod next time I’m there! Drove from Cleveland to the shop today to pick up steelhead gear, and I couldn’t be happier with the service and selection! I will be back without question.
Thanks for being here.
MTH Power Wash LLC yeah it’ll definitely be a drive but I think it will be worth it, especially if you decide to find some holes to wet a line while you’re down there. I’m a beginner fly fisherman, and I was almost overwhelmed at everything that was in that store lol. Great selection of rods, reels, flies, gear, and apparel.
MTH Power Wash LLC this will be my first season ever trying for steelhead. Excited to learn, and hopeful to land a few fish this season. I’ve spent all my fly time fishing for bass and bluegill. I have a 9’ 8WT that I use for bass and an old 5WT for bluegill for now. Looking to pick up an Echo River Glass in either 2WT or 3WT next season to make the smaller panfish a little more sporting.
MTH Power Wash LLC that’s what I like to hear! I’m pumped for the challenge and look forward to learning a bunch on the water. I’m fortunate to live and work very near the Rocky River, so I’ll be keeping my waders and gear in my truck all fall and winter. Gonna maximize my time out there and hope it pays off.
What a great, challenging sport we enjoy. Thanks Brian.......dont forget about those Lake Erie Walleye.
JD Hall Walleye episode coming soon. Stay tuned.
You guys should do a montana video next year.
We have a few coming your way soon. Filmed over the past few seasons at Kelly Galloup's Slide Inn. Stay tuned.
Great video, always learn something... while being entertained.
Thanks!
Happy to help as always. Stay tuned.
Thank you so much for this and all your videos! Always excellent quality and fantastic teaching tools. I've learned so much from Brian. It was nice to see him out on the water catching (and loosing - haha) fish. Looking to upgrade from my starter set - will probably be contacting you guys soon for suggestions.
Thanks for being here and we'll of course be happy to help. Contact us when ready.
Great video guys! And definitely thanks for sharing all the helpful info regarding the gear you are using too!
Thanks for watching.
Cool seeing you guys even closer to home! I live in north east Ohio and order off your website all the time. Only made the journey to your shop once. Love the videos
Thanks for watching.
Awesome footage! Thank you guys
Thanks so much for being here and please stay tuned.
Looks like a great day on a Great Lake!!!!
Always a great day when out on the water with Josh McQueen!!
Thanks bro and again another fantastic video. Tightlines. Slay on slayer.
Thanks for watching.
Thanks for sharing. I do most of my fly (and conventional) fishing from a boat. I thoroughly enjoy seeing success for warm water species with this approach.
Thanks for watching and please stay tuned.
Interesting. We fish for sheepshead (what we call freshwater drum in MN) with heavy weights on the bottom in the Mississippi River. I've never thought to fly fish for them. Now I've gotta try! Thanks Brian...
Freshwater drum are a blast on a fly rod. Brian says his grandfather used to call them "Black Drum" but as we see here....that is incorrect. Freshwater drum or Sheepshead is the correct nomenclature. Regardless, they are tons of fun to catch.
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for being here.
Awesome Video, I fly fish for coho and steelhead out deep on Lake Michigan. Made a few videos, its a hard bite but way worth it when everything works out. Lake Erie reminds me of ocean fishing. Looks like you guys had a blast!!
Thanks for watching.
Just got my fly rod yesterday, excited to try it on salmon and pike
Good luck and let us know how it goes!!!
Such a cool video. Love from denmark
Thanks for watching.
Caught plenty of these drum on Erie over the weekend. Gave me one hell of a fight no matter the size. Even caught a couple giants, including a fish Ohio eligible one. Next time I’ll take my fly rod out there! They should be considered a game fish, not a trash fish.
We DO consider them a great gamefish. Great fun on a fly. Thanks.
Tan color, like butter.
Exactly.
Now I see you around the point near the Lighthouse! Crap! Things are gonna change! By the way, the walleye come in at night to feed this time of year into November. My goal is to catch some on flies this fall, fishing from the banks!
Good luck and let us know how you do. We are working on that too!!!
You should try some fly fishing I presque isle bay over here in Erie. A lot of the same opportunities with even more fish
Andrew Magee We do. Josh guides over that way quite often. Thanks.
Well, Howdy Friends!! I find myself saying this at least once a week
So does Brian!!! Thanks for being here.
I live in Marblehead, I dock right next to Mazuriks. My grandsons found something more fun than catching larry in the marinas.
Hope to see you soon.
You guys should fish Nova Scotia
Geoff Fuller We have been there quite a few times. Fantastic!!!
I live a mile and a half from Mazuriks, how far did you go from there? Never thought about fishing in!
Not sure on that...you'd have to check with Josh or Brian. They can be reached through the shop directly. Thanks.
i'm new to fly fishing and would like to know what kind of sinking line I should use for largemouth bass (west tennessee) and which is maybe easier to cast.
Great question for the shop. Send them an e-mail or better yet give them a call and they will be happy to help. Thanks.
Is the sage foundation in 6 wt or tfo axiom x in 6 wt better for bass fishing?
Please send your questions over to the shop and they will be happy to consult. Thanks.
Famous last words, I'm a professional. 🤣
Of course.
I've been fishing for a long time and get never had fish like that and maybe fish like that doesn't exist in my country😟
Thanks for watching.
