Wow! Congrats! What a great father son moment! The best! hope me an my dad and my son can make many memories like that! Something you guys will always remember and cherish forever! Awesome!
I spend a lot of time on Erie and wish I will one day catch one even close to that beautiful fish. Like you I have caught plenty of 5 and 6 pound fish. I have yet to catch one over 7. My day is coming just as yours did. Maybe I will get lucky and get a 10.2 ! Well done and congratulations.
Don't understand why there is not a process to certify a fish and still let it live. But congratulations to that man and his son. What a memory they will never forget!
@@raydalton1110 yes in the video they said that between all the certification process it ended up dying. The fisherman wanted to release it but they want to study it I guess which I can see the benefits to that as well.
Congratulations to Grant and his dad! Amat a special and incredible moment The likelihood of this fish having successful spawns still is extremely limited. The studies done to gain more information about fish of this size and official weigh will do more than releasing it alive would. I’d love to see a “Sharelunker” style program in the north but unfortunately there isn’t yet
A sharelunker program for smallmouth in the Great Lakes would be fantastic! Somewhere in one of those 5 lakes is the world record... it's high time we take it back from Dale Hollow!
The dnr shouldnt keep this fish which prevents it to grow to a possible world record, what a shame. The dna will be same for a 5 pounder, its just this bass found a good hole "area" to survive and left alone, so dumb to do a share lunker with that bass, Largemouth is diff , but very few smallies that size, what a waste by the dmr. Let it go
Ross I said hello to you Thursday morning at the Huron ramp. You were lounging in the beanbag chair and barely looked up from your phone. That hurt. Thought we were buds. LOL
My friend caught a 10 lb smallmouth a few years ago close to middle bass while trolling for walleye. He took a picture, weighed it, and let it go cause he thought you couldn't keep smallmouth that time of year. I told him he could have kept one over 18", and also what it meant to catch that fish. He had no clue....lol.
@chriscarroll3635 It was brought up in our neck of the woods, with photo too. I called the ohio dnr, sent them a photo, and tried to get the person that deals with publishing the regulations to put his pic in the regulations atleast so people could see it. They didn't though. Was an awesome fish for sure
I shutter to think what a fool I would have made of myself to catch a fish of that significance on video. Can't hardly keep my s*** together on a 5-6 lb! Unreal & congratulations!
Wow, I guess when you break a record the jealous trolls come out. Great job guys, good interview also. I fish the MI Erie waters a lot and have caught dozens of 5's and a couple of 6's. That 10 is definitely a once in a lifetime fish (or more).
No one’s trolling about it being a negative thing however the reason it was able to be a record is because people that caught it before released it…. 🤔 who cares about the record fish of a lifetime the only time you know someone’s name by a record fish if you look it up… lol amazing catch awesome catch. Take some pictures picture of a scale and let it go simple as that. If they didn’t want to kill the fish…..
@@JHfish23 You're entitled to your opinion and I respect it. You have no idea if this fish has ever been caught before... It's Lk Erie, not a 1-2,000 acre inland lake
@@JHfish23 If they didn't it would not have been considered a record. They would have received a ticket if they admitted they caught it in Canadian waters without a license.
That’s why I say I Doubt it either way unbelievable catch but it should either be any state record and world record or Ontario and Canadian record… same fish shouldn’t hold a “state” and “province” record 1 or the other lol
Great job landing that big girl ! Good presence of mind to kill the motor , that would have been a heartbreaker if she broke off in the prop. I'll try and remember that next time I get a big one on. Congratulations gentlemen, well done !
Friend hooked one had been close to 30" out perch fishing...we were making fun of him thought it was a shephead.. broke water broke his hook about same time should have had the net ready
Congrats guys, don’t let the keyboard warriors give you shit about not releasing it. That fish certainly had its share of spawns and who’s to say it survives the winter anyways.
I experienced a similar situation while fishing with my daughter and granddaughter when they both caught their first smallmouth bass on Owasco Lake. They were so happy that they jumped around in the boat shouting for joy!!!! A nearby fisherman witnessed the "screaming and dancing" by both of them. Congratulations to both father and son for a very memorable moment!!!
I hope they study the fish entirely, after they age the fish it would probably be a good idea to look at the pituitary gland, this fish could have been living with a form of Acromegaly or gigantism which could have been caused by a biological abnormality or by environmental factors. But congratulations on a fish of a lifetime.
They did everything thing that they could to keep this fish alive but unfortunately it didn't happen. Fact- they legally kept this fish. I willing to bet that these guys released literally thousands of Smallmouth they could have kept. So 1 in 1,000 isn't a big deal. This fish probably didn't have more than a year or two to live due to natural aging anyway.
Nobody believes us When I was younger I seen something in lake Ontario When I went fishing with my dad me and my dad seen a black shadow in the waters It was the size of a school buss And there's no fish in lake Ontario would be that Size but we know what we saw Can anyone explain to me what you think we saw it happened in the afternoon when the sun was bright this thing In the water moving was blacker than the lake But don't say it's a Monster of some type I don't believe in that it was definitely some kind of fish That's what my dad thinks because of the way it was moving It started out very slowly But then it took off so fast creating waves all around us But my dad was terrified To the Point he was shaking But in my dad's younger days he did a lot of fishing for sharks In the oceans This fish was moving and behaving like a shark But then when It took off extremely fast like that He said it would have been impossible for it to be a shark no fish on Earth can move that fast So until this day we are still puzzled of what it could have been It could have been someone using a submarine to prank us But why would someone waste their time and money to do that Anyways whatever it was it was scary My dad is a really tough guy and never gets scared but something spooked him that day
Why show this caliber fish on your own non certified scale when the Department of Natural Resources weighed it in a certified scale. It's official so stop whining about something that doesn't matter.

"The Bump" on the head of that fish is bigger than FETTERMAN's Neck bump!
