The Confirmed Path of Exile 2 Crafting Changes Are BIG

- Path of Exile 2's crafting is going to be nothing like its predecessor, Path of Exile 1, and that's a good thing. From the orbs available and league crafting we get to the way we fundamentally craft our items, it's all getting a good shake up. One of the pillars of this beloved action RPG's design has always been its crafting, and now with the release of PoE 2, Grinding Gear Games has the chance to establish their game is the peak ARPG crafting system...all at Path of Exile 2's release.
This is what we know so far, with a bit of speculation peppered in at the end about what to expect with Path of Exile 2's item crafting changes.
I'm excited. GGG is cooking up some astonishing concepts for new crafting methods in PoE 2.

EDIT: IT'S A FUNNY EASTER EGG EXILES, if I had access I would never put in a gag like that. I promise. Also, crafting changes, eh, cool right? And yes, I accidentally misdefine regals in PoE 1. Oopsie. Good thing I put the icon up...oh wait.
I hope we'll get crafting info rather soon
I am quite confident they won't make it worse. I think POE 1's crafting system was getting quite a bit bloated, especially if you start counting in things for map crafting and crafting recipes/vendors/bench.
Sir i am an air conditioner not a fan
i suppose i'm mostly curious about a commitment to item mod quality. regardless of whether i craft my own stuff or not, i hate seeing mods on items that bear no relevance to any build in the game. if reflect is going to be a mod, it needs the item/skill support to make it big enough to mean something to some build. if reduced item requirements is going to be a stat make it big. stun/block recovery should mean enough that one good roll on an item is able to be felt like one good speed roll. if they don't fix these issues (present in PoE1) i feel it's gonna be a big damper on PoE2's crafting approach.
@@thomaswilliams6690 they need to 100% improve trading that is for sure
TLDR
Removed-fusing,alteration,jeweller,chromatic
alchemy -> rare 4 mod item
transmute -> magic 1 mod item
Also chaos -> annul + exalt
annul, augment, chance, regal, exalt and divine stay the same
@@kekplexisWe have no confirmation that any of the other orbs are in the game. They might all be changed or removed, they haven't been in any of the demos.
@@ruibarian5187 at least chaos orb was in some vids
regret orbs seem to also have changed in their function. at least tri shows one, but also says respec is done with gold
and chaos orb is shown at 03:15 for a second. on top chaos orb is covered in the section "three confirmed changed orbs" lol
Man there are some leagues where my whole economy gets tanked due to having to sink several thousand more than average fusing/jewels/chromes to get the right sockets. This can honestly ruin a league for you and put you way back, many days even. I am happy to see these removed.
I only buy six links because my fusions never go above 5, ever
I've quit leagues for this exact reason
Black Morrigan made the linking part way simpler this league, probably won’t be as cheap next league but was handy.
As a casual player the only crafting I will miss from harvest crafting is the ability to change 1 resistance type to another specific type
I've noticed that after you both die in the fight with the RathBreaker at 13:40 all wolves just stand there staring into the void. It would be a nice detail if they would start howling or doing some sort of "victory" animation. The world is incredibly immersive and this slight detail was standing out for me. Thanks for providing us with a stream of quality content! PoE 2 teases have that Christmas vibe from the times I was a little kid c:
That is a good point, it would even be cool if they just munch on you lol.
A stand in place animation would be cool but it's generally beneficial if the mobs aren't active when you're not in the instance.
@@TwoLeftSh0es I sgree, I would not want them wander around while I refill pots in town just to find out that they ganged up on me around the portal. But in this case there is no harm to start moving, as the boss has to reset anyway, since you died
that was smooth, casually "looking" for POE1 by quickly hovering over POE2
It's a false icon (trust me bro).
@@TalkativeTri shenanigans, we storm at midnight!
Great path of exile 2 icon on your desktop 😭
👀👀👀 (it's fake, good eye).
@@TalkativeTri I now hate you with spite ;)
HAHHAHAHAHA
anything in PoE1 is fair game for PoE2 if it's translatable into a "does not scour. does not reforge." system. So we'll be back to Alchemical Resonators for Fossil crafting. We'll probably be back to old essences. Meta Mods might exist since without scours or reforges they're really quite unimpressive. Multi-mod might exist but it'll probably be very expensive plus getting a decent 3-mod item will be kinda awkward without alteration orbs.
Hopefully they condense the number of essence tiers. I always found it silly how many tiers that system has, with only the final two or so mattering in the end.
Are you sure the Regal Orb description at 8:13 is right?
Oh god did I mess up? Turns a magic item into a rare item and adds 1 mod? What did I say OH NO.
Orb of Annulment artwork seems to be a direct reference to Junji Ito's horror art, so cool :D
I dont understand PoE crafting very well, but it fascinates me. Its sad to see it go (even tho the system is far from perfect), hopefully its for a good reason and hopefully GGG will bring something of the same depth into PoE 2 as a replacement, otherwise it will feel as if the game is just being dumbed down
Was about to type the same thing but you said it perfect!
Basically we get another version of pull-the-lever "crafting" system.
The only major problem Im still having is I dont see how rolling maps isnt going to SUCK.
Alt and fusing spam shall not be missed. Sayonara plastic surgeon, my carpal tunnels stay intact.
So instead of pressing a single button to try to get two mods you want it is better to either get a new base -> transmutate (get lucky roll) -> augment (get lucky roll) if any of the rolls fails destroy the item or you could just chaos spam until you hit one -> continue chaos spam while hoping ur mod isnt removed...
With the same chance to hit what you want then this is just 10x worse, are the mods way easier to hit? If so why are we focusing on the "Base item" improvement. or the removal of orbs. Alts would still be better in the new system so them being removed is just a negative
Chance orbs are still in tho. Actually the worst orbs for this as you can't even spam click since you need to scour as well. Although with scouring orbs gone, I suppose they really will be just the occasional gamble rather than used en mass.
Thank you Talkative Tri, very cool. 😎 🤙
Always love your positive comments, man!
Thanks for all your videos, I have not been following closely POE 2 news until recently and you're really helping me catching on what I previously missed. Cheers
Great to hear!
I would love if finding items is better then crafting items poe 1 went so overboard which is part of why picking up items is bad in poe 1 so im glad they're toning it back in poe 2
Firstly, thanks for covering this!
I really appreciate the efforts of GGG to give more meaning to different types of gear. However, the current solution does not seem to be good enough:
* 1x Scour = 1-3x Annul for magic, 4-6x Annul for rare
* 1x Alteration = 1x Annul + 1x Transmutation
Conclusion: If the base is really good, we still have the same functionality as PoE1, it just costs more orbs and more clicks.
So, what would crafting look like if we only have the basic orbs you mentioned?
1. Find a base you want with as many mods as you can find
2. Get it to 6 mods by exalt slamming
3. Chaos spam until you get something decent.
Will rare unidentified items be worth picking to sell? Yes, but only if chaos orbs or exalts are very expensive. In the first case, trade + identify-spam is cheaper than chaos spam. In the latter case, identify spam is only needed to find any 6-mod base, then can chaos spam.
Will magic items be worth anything? Yes, but only if there are extremely powerful mods (such as +1 proj) which are both more powerful than a reasonable 4-5 mod item without the mod, and also extremely rare so that it is too expensive to roll with chaos spam.
Will normal items be worth anything? Yes, but only if
* there are really good chase mods and
* annuls are really expensive and
* white item + transmute is much cheaper than an unidentified magic, or
* white item + alchemy is much cheaper than an unidentified rare
To summarize:
Can GGG tune the game in such a way that base items are worth to pick up? Yes, I think they can, by making most of the crafting currency sufficiently rare.
Will it make crafting more fun? Not sure. Instead of collecting rolling currency, now we collect quad tabs of normal items, spam them with transmutes/alchemy orbs, and see if we accidentally roll into something somebody else wants to buy. Or collect and sell full tabs of unidentified magic or rare items.
And finally, will we be excited to pick up gear from the ground? I am almost 100% convinced that this will not be the case, at least not with the info we have at the moment. It is basic statistics that you are likely to find a bunch of items for somebody else's build long before you find one item for yourself. Thus, you will have already traded with somebody for the item you need before you drop something of comparable power. I don't know how to solve this in a trade economy, they are almost completely opposing forces.
Nice video
Talkative do you know to get link socket in poe 2 ?
I really really enjoyed PoE1 crafting in 2014 or so where you gambled orbs and thats it. Looks like poe2 is getting to its roots.
Your video indicates that a regal orb adds one new modifier to a rare item. This is incorrect. It changes a magic to a rare, adding 1 modifier in the process.
Yes, I misspoke, apologies!
I think I'm ok with the removal of socket weight in general, though my overall worry is that we will lose too much of the feel of PoE crafting, that puzzle solving where you have a build in mind and net to get all the pieces into place for it to work. That can be a great feeling. I worry it will be TOO deterministic and streamlined. Need to really see it in action to make any judgements.
They really are improving every aspect of POE with this sequel.
I do not think that any of the league crafting content will:
A) reroll the entire item
B) add a mod (unless very expensive consumable)
C) upgrade/downgrade item (unless very expensive consumable)
I do think they would want to keep the spirit of the league crafting items
Essence: remove a mod (or essence mod if already applied ), add essence mod. (basically like a chaos-orb but with one guaranteed mod, just like they work atm. in PoE1)
Delve: removes/adds mods depending on Resonator size. (max size 2-3?) maybe even remove resonators entirely but that would just make them different essences in this context.
instead of lowering/increasing chances for mod to appear, Fossils would rather increase chance to remove/add mod of that type. (eg. "less chance for fire mod" would instead become "chance to remove a fire mod" instead,) this would decrease the overall variety of fossils but i'd imagine that would not be too much of a problem.
this may make fossils too strong tho as you could very precicely target craft items. Rarity could be drastically increased. I am overall excited to see how they change Delve in PoE2
Beastiary: I barely used it so, frankly no clue
Harvest: Probably gone, but if it does stay i kinda hope it becomes much more involved like it was in harvest league
Syndicate: Probably gone (the crafting options from syndicate are basically already removed from syndicate itself already)
Vaal orbs: probably stays the same. High risk, medium reward, unles you go for incursion.
Vaal orbs are imo. in a weird spot. many of the vaal modifiers seem not that good, (except the gem lv+ mods) and do not justify Corrupting an item unless it's a niche and very common unique, also they reroll the implicit which makes vaals even more questionable as PoE2 has showed that they will have more interesting and usefull implicits.
A part of me hopes they will find a way to let us add specific elemental effects to our equipment more easily. In POE 1 it took a LOT of effort to gear toward one's preferred elemental path. In POE 2, I want to create a mercenary with a fire-infused assault rifle/!crossbow with a frost shotgun/crossbow as a backup.
The only thing I want in poe 2 is the quantity support gem! Bring this back as a chase support from the hardest of bosses.
What do you think Tabula Rasa will do in PoE 2? I think it's a shoe in for the game since it's so iconic, but obviously it's purpose has to change completely
Crafting is so complicated in PoE, but that became of leagues, adding more and more, so, if even it’s easier at lunch, we need to see what leagues will add at the end.
As someone playing D2R while listening to this, I can assure you that bringing importance to white items again will be incredibly important to keeping the game alive for a very long time, just as D2 has done.
Only thing I have to add is that Jonathan said they wanna restrict additional crafting systems (usually coming from leagues) to specific slots, e.g. fossils only working on body armor, essences only working on boots+gloves etc (those are just examples, not confirmed).
Your channel gonna explode when poe2 launches. Keep it up
A lot of that momentum is the PoE2 hype. If it keeps up and you continue to ride it until launch, and then make something of yourself in the PoE2 gameplay space, you could be set.
Cause people are hyped, and there's a lot of cope, and a lot of denial, but I don't think very many people understand quite how big this game is going to be. A lot of all this will be finding your niche, or identity, in the space though. Something I think a lot of UA-camrs fail to do.
Hoping for your success though, you seem like a cool guy and we can definitely use your kind of energy on the platform.
I think it's great that some of the minor orbs are getting changed, but I think I would miss that part of the crafting process and we do lose some control. I hope we get some sort of replacement for the function of alterations.
Agree with change to white itmes, it remind me looking for white items in D2 LOD / R for rune words. I like that change a lot.
Make natural affixes from dropped items have naturally have 1% - 30% naturally increased stats magnitude hidden modifier but when crafted on or modified in any way that stat boost becomes null. This is to make a naturally dropped items matter, kinda like a lottery.

I hope crafting in POE2 is less about gambling and more about, well, _crafting_. Removing all of those gambling orbs is a good start.
I actually think vendor recipes might be removed? It seems like that's sort of what the gold shop is for right to be able to check the shop for things your character may need if you don't see the base you need drop.
25 by the end of year? I think you can easily do 100k with PoE2 open access. Keep the grind going!
didnt jonathan say chaos orbs are getting changed to adding 2 modifiers instead of 1 ? pretty sure one of the recent interviews mentioned that ( i cant remember which but if i find it i will edit)
If you find it, let me know!
@@TalkativeTri I must be getting old! I could've sworn I saw that but alas I must be on molly or some powder or something...BUT HEY if it turns out to be true I WAS FIRST xD
I'm glad they are moving away from mass spamming alterations and chaos
The old stuff they showed seems incongruent with the new system of "Tiers" of rares, you would never use an alchemy late game if it can only produce the worst type of rare. I hope they are cooking on these ideas and making a cool late game crafting system.
Also, how do they stop annuls from functioning the same as a scour. Annuling a rare to one mod, then chaos spamming is basically the same as spamming transmutes in PoE1. Will it work in that way?
They crafting is insane on PoE 1. I only play around with crafting and never have hit anything i was after in years.
With rare item having "tier" when dropped in poe2, I wonder if there will be some kind of tier too to currency like alchemy, chaos and exalt, to create with (or add) better affixes
You are in the pre-alpha testing, AWESOME!!
Congrats ;)
HAHAHAH I AM NOT IT'S A GAG.
@@TalkativeTriI believe you 😉😁
Enjoy it and help GGG make the best ARPG possible!!
I hope there's a more dynamic way to roll and play endgame maps. Without chizzels as well.
There will be a Death Log on Poe 2? As a newbie on POE 1, I think it is hard to understood what kind of damage is killing you while mapping. A Death Log like on Last Epoch may be a good addition.
can't wait! aside from the alterations i didnt have much problem crafting things at all in poe1m it was mainly just too much hassle trading for mats like fossils/res'ys essences etc. wasnt enough supply and couldn't buy. think poe2 will be good stuff
I am mostly worried about not having some kind of soft save/reset crafting feature. But I love that we won't be spamming currency items nearly as much as PoE1.
How is it going to work Exiles? Don't worry, Talkative Tri will tell you in just a minute.
+1 subscriber, my man. no idea why I wasn't sub'ed to your channel. Cheers.
15:29 I just noticed that portaling to town doesn't have a loading screen, huge! (I just really hope I don't have to tank a minute+ long loading screen due to other players' MTX spam
it's the same map. that's why it doesn't take time.
They really have to be careful with adding other forms of crafting like beastiary and fossils. They aren’t new player friendly at all
Chaos orbs and chaos like items cant add 3 affixes. It's 4 to 6 affixes weighted 65 - 25 - 10% chance if i remember correctly.
That someone in ggf took the time to change and improve assets like the orb of alchemy shows just how great they are
Am I the only one thinking that this whole Scouring changes thing will just add more tedium to orb crafting and ultimately make it worse in every way?
Let's be real here. No, experienced POE1 players will not get excited by finding good bases if it means that they will have to sink an enormous amount of orbs to *try* and get a good item if orb crafting is as random as it is in PoE1. They will just chuck it in their stash until they have a better way to craft available to them. And if they have to engage with orb crafting, it'll feel awful because of the randomness and the absence of a reset button. Not a good outcome on the craft? Yay, time to find a new base again... Riveting gameplay loop...
And if the expérience is negative for experienced players, I don't need to expand on the potential experience for casual players...
I really hope they'll change more than that because the reasoning: "People used to spam thousands of alt orbs to get the modifiers they wanted on their items, it's bad design... Ok then remove alt orbs completely and offer no other tool to compensate" is just removing flexibility to a crafting system without trying to make it better.
Instead of finding the recepies for bench crafting in certain areas, what would you think of a Necropolis Bench craft approach? You have the recipy and need to slay certain monsters to use it.
Without the clutter of gravecrafting obviously. The "Souls" would be added automatically to the bench as you slay the monster. And that would Happen as you progress through the acts. With the variety of monsters, GGG would have great agency over the timing in which you can access certain crafts.
That would be closer to Beastiary, but that could get Special treatment with Special, more powerful, but harder to access crafts for example
I would assume that Essences make it in but I think that they won't create rares anymore. At least on the lower tiers. It looks like GGG wants us to go through the item levels when crafting so Essences will probably be no exception and more like the new transmutes.
I also think, that Fossils will be in and because they are working like chaos orbs in POE1, I think they will do so in POE2. Meaning, they remove a modifier and add a modifer. They might still change the chances for which type of modifier gets added or removed, even though this reminds me a little of harvest crafting.
I wonder how a poe 2 style fuse and jeweler art would look like
Can't wait for ground loot to be meaningful, it was a goal from Jonathan.
I hope that the new crafting systems means that hitting a single great mod on an item can be a big deal, whereas in PoE1 you need to hit multiple tier 1 mods at a time for it to really matter.
i tried to learn poe1 crafting but it was too much of a hassle, it is also a bit sad that the economy is only balanced around top players
8:42 omg that vaal orb is nasty!
i thought scouring was removed because you can "disenchant" now
25k subs too easy, love the vids dude 💯
Keep making these videos man! We need Asmon to watch one of these so your channel can pop off a bit dude, you deserve it!
Do purchased stash tabs carry over to PoE 2?
Yes!
The bottom right orb from with the art, that should be from PoE 2 is Orb of Regret. Are we sure that one is disappearing?
Yeah, that was before they decided to use gold for respecs. The screenshot is from ExileCon 2023, I think the respecs for gold was decided on earlier this year.
@@TalkativeTrididn’t see them confirm that. Latest news was both are in and it’s undecided.
So nice not having to reroll over and over, whatever it is, it sounds like they’re taking away a lot of the annoying tedious things that kept you from playing because of the desire to hit the perfect mods.🎉🎉
If you are still struggling with getting 6-links in current PoE then have likely missed a few things. Most important is the Black Morrigan from Bestiary. I think at most this was at most 50c during the league and if you pop this in a map alongside a bestiary scarab of duplicating you get two Black Morrigans so that you can six-link two items of your choice.
If for some reason you don't want to use that you can buy an omen of connections as well, it's just more expensive.
I have also never enjoyed fusing orbs. Thought it was the worst part of crafting in PoE, but currently is should mostly be a non-issue at least if you are in trade league.
I REALLY hope that vendor recipes will not be a thing in POE2
3300 fusing are rookie numbers. Took me 7500 fusing one league to six link
Not sure if the crafting system, if you can even call it that, will be there but I hope blight will
I wonder if they plan on letting us Whales still play early before November/December or if we will just get rolled with everyone .
i feel essences will be in PoE 2 but will work similar to PoE 2 chaos orb, where a mod will be removed and replaced with the essence mod chosen.
Have they yet announced 'how' we will get into early access? I have seen various supposed methods, so just looking for something actually official.
As long as it has great ingame tutorials for noobies like myself I think we're all good
Do you think you'll be a poe2 only youtuber when poe2 launch ? Or are you going to play both
(Poe-1)
Do anyone know how to increase the cap for spell block. 😅
0:05 juicy orb renders actually, love poe2 arts
Love these changes. I quit Poe when I found out I spend more time rng crafting than playing the game
That’s the problem I’m not too a top tier player but I don’t want the d4 experience of getting gold
For everything are having to pick up a habit of picking up a bunch of white items are not having the options to make my items the bottom up if I brake it.
damn the new orb art is sick
Honestly. kinda hoping they drop vendor recipies, having to go to external sites to look them up or come back after months and trying to remember them all...
I also used fusings this league before i found out about the beastcraft lol
Wait, porting to town has no loading screen?
i feel like that is something big
if this is how its going to work, they better introduce the auction house, to buy bases ... :D
Tri I kno u didn't play OG poe days.... BUT I think it would be sick if they went back from the start of league existance......... and introduce them into poe with updates and tweaks to accommodate to PoE2. 🔥 Anarchy and Onslaught ----> to present would be lit.
Is the beta going to be open for everyone? The late 2024 one
10:13 Isn't orb of regret removed? Why is it on the list?
Not confirmed actually. They haven’t decided if they want it to remain.
It's a pic from last year's presentation
Looks awsome, i hope they dare to make some drastic changes in poe 1 aswell, the powercreep has been completely out of control for so long now, making crafting kinda weird, finding gear kinda weird, balance very weird and loot drops omegalul.
Insane the amount of videos you can farm this days
Respeccing via gold sounds terrible and going to be costly expensive and grindy.
I think the one of the biggest changes for crafting is going to be the loss of meta crafting. We're going to lose suffixes will not be changed, cannot roll attack modifiers, that type of s***. And that is going to completely rewrite how end of game crafting works, at an even more fundamental change, then the reworked chaos orb
I won't miss orbs of fusing.
Harvest is my favorite. I hope it comes to POE2 or something similar at least.
They did confirm vendor recipes. Don’t remember where exactly
Awesome!
I still prefer LE's crafting system over this, but it's definitely an improvement over PoE1. Don't get me wrong, PoE1 is by far my most played / favorite game, but I hate it's convoluted mess of a crafting with a passion. However, I find it hard to properly evaluate PoE2's crafting changes without knowing the new modifiers and their tiers. It might turn out that getting a decent set of modifiers will be much harder with PoE2, if there are too many modifiers, since we now have much more limited number of tries to get what we need per given item base, thus potentially much lower chances.
Apparently The game looks great to get released before 2025 But why have they delayed their launch?😢
Well rip to my first 6link in SSF that I hit in like sub 30 fusings. Also rip to that unique that you dump over 3k into and it never links
I don't understand why anyone would use 3300 fusings though to 6L something when it costs 1500 fusings on the crafting bench.
Very good video though! Thanks!
"This next one will be the one I swear."
@@TalkativeTri I six linked an item with 20 fusings once, it was my first try to 6L. I've not tried since, I probably used up my luck, was one of my very first leagues. XD
Sunk cost fallacy. Besides it feels crappy to bench it. The fun comes from the gamble 😁
I made my first hand-made six-link with something around 150-200 fusings. The next one was probably 3000-4000+ 😅
