I'm 5'4" and I'm installing 12" on mine soon ( got 8" at the moment, because I wasn't sure what would fit me best, at the time ). I always heard they sucked, and believed it. I swat large lead fishing sinkers into the ends of my bars to dampen vibes. It's an old trick which works nicely. I've taught many MSF courses while running 14" apes/stock risers and they are natural for countersteering and easy on my back. I don't run them for looks and don't give a shit what anyone thinks about what I own. I could slam my FXR onto the concrete from peg mount to peg mount with zero instability. No shift under max. braking either. My apes don't move because I don't run rubber or urethane (caps for emphasis!) RISER BUSHINGS. There's no need. Washers or any of the stepped washer solid bushing kits work better with any bar. Bushings only serve to add slop. Clamps only work well if you use similar metal risers and bars then weld them to prevent rotation. I tack welded the lower parts of my stainless Biltwell risers to my bars and they don't rotate. I can twist off the tacks after unbolting the clamp if I need to replace the bars. If you buy apes, get them with welded risers. Front Street Cycle fabbed mine and his work is worth the wait.
