This was so tremendously helpful! I just bought a set of inktense and realized my mom had a smaller set so I experimented with these techniques and found them very very useful... I create fashion botanical illustrations and I was having so many problems getting the skin on the face to be really smooth and when I used the pencils they blended perfectly and I was able to add more colors in and no streakiness or funny lines.... I was definitely able to solve a serious problem!!! Thanks for sharing!!

When using my Inktense or Neocolor 2 pencils….I find the water brush has too much water, I use the Zig Blender twin tip brush, it is Amazing!, it’s like a brush tip marker, better than the Tombow wet marker. When it gets color on it, I just swipe it back and forth on my scrap paper and it lasts for years!

I'm assuming that if you splatter some blue and some yellow, you would also see some green splatters appearing in places, as the two inks overlap on paper? I think Inktense pencils are a LOT of fun. Hope to get some one day. Small request: when you are demonstrating the different methods of applying and activating pencils on paper, it would be very helpful if you would keep to just one color, instead of varying them. It would be easier to discern tbrush strokes left behind, how much more easily the color completely dissolves within the different methods, etc. Thank you for this video!

A way to add the most intense color lines is to dip the very tip of the pencil in water. One thing to remember with this technique is don't get the wood wet. I wonder if Gamsol or Meltz would work? Scribble the pencil into a watercolor palette to make paint. One other way is to take watercolor paper and scribble a lot of the pencil down to make paint sheets. This is a great way to take a little color off the paper rather than off the tip of the pencil, You can color a whole picture beforehand with Inktense pencils and then activate the picture at a later time. No need to bring all your pencils just your water pen.

You are a shining example of how one person can make a difference to so many! Thanks ever so much for the great video.
QUESTION: Based on glowing reviews, I purchased the Intense and started my first piece. The few reviewers that felt they re-wet when dry were told they did not dissolve all of the pigment to begin with. Last night, I put on one layer and thought I dissolved it all, and the colors were very vivid. Today, when I went to apply another layer, I noticed it was lifting. Upon spraying and dabbing the bird, a lot lifted off on a paper towel, and the color looks subdued. I wanted to try them first on cheaper paper, a Strathmore Visual Journal, 140CP. I cannot layer with that with traditional watercolor, as it lifts so readily. Could this be the problem? The swatches I did of the pencils on a better scrap of paper (unsure of brand) are lifting a wee bit.
Not being known for my patience, I am frustrated and unsure whether to proceed on this paper or start over. You experience would be helpful. How much pencil do you use, and do you use a lot of layers? That seems time intensive.

I’ve never found comparison of the inktense vs Staedtler Luna watercolor pencils that are also super pigmented + vibrant. Luna watercolor comes in 12/24/48 and are really great budget student pencils where I’m located about usd 33cents/pencil and less when on sale. Not sure how much it costs in US and availability but i would love to see a comparison. Staedtler tinted graphite watercolor pencils could be similar and I think someone has ever found them on US Blick if you can’t find Luna.
