my dad was born in 1950 and his favorite toy was a baby doll. sometimes adults would want to take it from him, or ask his mom "why are you letting him play with that", but she let him keep it. theres nothing wrong with a boy wanting to be a caretaker. my dad told me that he always wanted to be a dad, and i think thats very natural and normal.
My partner got his heart’s desire at 4 when he was given a doll and a toy pram to play with the girls in his street. He continued to play with these all through childhood (and says he was rarely mocked) as well as playing cricket and rugby. He grew up and was an athlete at uni and a lovely heterosexual man who is very self-assured and has been a great partner and father. He is 84. These days his outcome might have been different…
These calmversations have really helped combat my inherent dislike of the trans phenomenon because of how abrasive the activism is. Funny how a nuanced discussion is more effective at changing minds than just shouting your viewpoint at people from across the river.
First time I've seen/heard the term: calmversation. Good one. Some persons, like myself, can engage in passionate and elevated debate, but others ( like a good friend of mine ) don't like it or cannot hang in there. Such a person might be persuaded, but the tone and tenor are too intense, or personal. I'm not talking about being "attacked", either. It's the energy. Good to hear your thoughts in this regard. ( P.S. - I prefer calmer, cooler conversations, but some topics are very, very emotional, so I get that, too, about people getting worked up. Usually better to take a Time Out or just not discuss the matter with such people. Especially friends / family, IMO. )
It greatly helped me elaborate on vague feelings of discomfort. It's through these kinds of conversation I can see what truly bothers me, what's just fine and what needs more exploration
When I was a young girl in the 1990s I LOVED overalls, mud, Jurassic park toys, legos, and video games. I’m as girly as girly can be now. My best friend’s son DEMANDED a Barbie when he was 3. So she got him one for his birthday. He’s 11 now and he’s an Boy Scout, a drummer, and a skate boarder. He’s a littler charmer with the ladies, too. Kids are kids. Let them be.

At 40:54 I’d like to offer that I think Tullip misapprehends the argument women are making about trans. It’s *not* that we think *all* such men are the predatory AGP type, it’s that TRA *demands we disregard this type entirely* & eradicate all defences against their encroachment in our spaces. Men with such disorders are statistically quite prevalent in trans ID & over represented amongst men who abuse & violate us. Of course we are going to demand safeguards against any inclusion of these men, we’ve been battling their type since time immemorial, we know them, we know what they do to us & society is demanding that we entertain them in our most vulnerable spaces. This is not bigotry on the part of women, it is self preservation & a plea to be allowed to keep standards in place around who we’re forced to associate with. Furthermore the demand is that these men *do not need* psychological therapy, that this is a normal & socially acceptable part of their personality that shouldn’t require any intervention at all, that he should be allowed to grow completely into this persona & we’ll only deal with it when it escalates to crime. At the same time the demands are that we eradicate the legal boundaries of what constitutes a crime against women, because sexual gratification is what these men prize most.
I haven't gotten that far yet, but it's quite likely if our health professionals practiced true "informed consent" and communicated the actual health risks and risks of regret, we'd likely not have so many who are having the same experience as Tullip and Sinead.
Some of them are victims though. I think moms of kids who detrans who talk about it have every right to talk about what is, essentially, psychiatric abuse.
Great point from Sinead. "Detrans" is more useful as an adjective -- a word that describes, rather than a noun -- a thing you can be (or "identify" as).

I'm a radfem, I'm against self id and early transition - openly so - but I hope you realize lots of us understand that people that transition often suffer a great deal and we have compassion for that. It's just crazy that these treatments are so freely available to people who are psychologically in a bad state and I wish it never happened to either of you. Until this video I did not realize the detrans man was kind of invisible. I just watched Shape Shifter and Benjamin yesterday and I was left stunned. Now Tullip has brought his voice to the conversation and what a voice it is. I thank him for his insight and compassion even extending this to autogynephilic issues - as I think compassion is what is needed. And Sinead has been a voice in the wilderness and a lighted beacon. Okay, so this was an awesome meeting of minds in this 'calmversation' with Tullip & Sinead both being fiercely intelligent, incisive and perfectly posited - not necessarily against one another, but approaching the issue from opposite directions. New to the detrans community, a UA-camr called Shape Shifter, posted an update to say he is detransitioning, after having bottom surgery and how none of the transition fantasy helped him.
Arty Morty has just interviewed Shape Shifter. He's so lovely, so intelligent..... A wise voice, with a tragic story. I find it so interesting that most HSTS are really nice, yet the AGP types are self-centred narcissists that don't care about anyone but themselves.
Sinead and Tulip are so clearly open and aboveboard about the beautiful human soul as they reveal their experiences and their journey. All open conversations with this kind of candid honesty help the world grow. Thank you for these videos on this site. We are lucky that they have not been shut down. I think thst mothers "transing" their kids, has a lot in common with "Munchausen by proxy". Mothers with special kids are special mothers, these actions get them attention and sympathy.
These trans and detrans stories are just sad. These people mostly have serious issues and they pin their hopes on drugs and surgeries that can only change their facade. It must be a very bad day when they realize after going through it all the problems inside remain. I hope they find their peace.

I agree with Sinead so much and feel the exact same way as her. It freaks me out, scares me and triggers my fight/flight response to the nth degree. Tulip is saying let’s not jump to the conclusion the MTF AGPs are doing this with malicious intent and that is a very fair point, but I raise you: women are the marginalized group here and we have the right to look at AGP’s with apprehension…
Scales and context are important. Theres a big difference between a man entering a womens prison and a man struggling with the desire to be a woman, when in fact the desire is to be heard/listened too, but males are sexually fueled...so it does weird things. And sometimes that thing can end up hurting women, no doubt.
I recently had a long and slightly surreal online conversation with a (presumed) straight transvestite who argued that women only recently learned this freakout reaction from 'cultural propaganda', such as movies about cross-dressing serial killers, and from radical feminists. He insisted that most women don't have any instinctive revulsion for such things. I raised a skeptical eyebrow. In fact I raised both eyebrows. But I'd be interested to hear your take.

I would like to comment on Sinead's view that mums that trans kids are munching and dads it's homophobia, I think a lot of dads are actually burying their head in the sand over it and mums can be both and neither munching and homophobic. Jazz Jennings mum tried to pray the gay away and was embarrassed trying to explain that her 5 yo son liked playing with barbies. So putting a bow and passing off the kid at a girl probably ruffled less feathers, then perhaps she got addicted to the attention of being this great inclusive mum. There's also something maybe in the way that in a large amount of gender non conforming kids they will likely grow up gay and maybe that makes people uncomfortable as they are thinking about sex in relation to kids? That's potentially societal homophobia where people can't think of same sex attraction in non hyper sexualised way. Gay = aids one night stands cruising in parks, rather than romance between 2 people that happen to be of the same sex
And many boys who like " girly " things won" t be even gay in the future . They just like colourfull and cute things , or rather play in a less competitive and rough way , and it happens to be more common in girl groups . My younger kid is like an old man for some things , but likes painting and , dancing , acting, wearing all kindnof costumes and play in a more colaborarive way, so although he has male friends , if he gets to a place where he doesn' t know the rest of kids , he tends to like playing with the girls more . My husband says that he was the same as a kid . He liked dancing , painting and was not into rough playing at all, and he enjoyed ( and enjoys ) female company better than male .
Loved this conversation! First time I’ve heard and seen Tulip, but not the last. I agree detransitioning men need more support and encouragement. Women have given much support and attention to detransitioning girls and women. I’m guilty of that myself. I am a die-hard supporter and admirer of Sinead whose clarity of thought, ability to communicate her ideas so eloquently never ceases to amaze me. I agree with everything she says and for the very same reasons. However, I don’t understand the prediction that detransitioning will skyrocket just because it becomes the latest fad or that it will be cult-like. I see detransitioning as returning to oneself with a mind on the mend from a form of mental illness. And Benjamin, you make it all happen. Especially enjoyed the humor at the end of the video. At around 57m in... I have some proof that it is definitely a generational issue. Here in Denmark they did a huge study of our sexuality, the Sexus report. The identity confusion was shown to affect young people mostly, because in older age brackets there were simply less people who described themselves as trans, which suggests the confusion subsides with age and work on the issue. This aligns with other studies that has shown that the vast majority of trans seem to detransition and find peace in their biological sex. I've heard different numbers ranging from 60 to 80 percent.
Sinead is 100% correct. The words we use are very important. For example, one thing that annoys me is how people will say "biological man" or "biological woman." Although I understand why people say this, there is no need to include the qualifier "biological."

Great talk. One thing i noticed is the total lack of true understanding of the ammount distress of their decision to Transition will have on their families. You never know that stress, until you become a parent, and your child decides against every piece of knowledge you have tried to instil into them, that they want to do something where it has a 99% probability of failure. And all you can is watch them fail, suffer the consequences, and feel utterly helpless to take their pain away. Also in certain cultures, Banter is a term of endearment. In the Male environment, not having a nickname i.e. Poof, Bender, Mary, etc. Is an indication, you're not yet included. They are not insults, and you are encouraged to return the favour. This Generation is all about asking for understanding without accepting that they are not offering any of their own. It is all feelings, self diagnosed victimhood and a burning desire to seek out internet echo chambers that reinforce the current narrative to support your current ideaology, instead of listening to opposing voices and challenging your beliefs.
At the same time though you do need to accept that some trans people do listen to this side (im here for one) but i still dont agree with these people. You can be openminded to listen to all types of people without agreeing.
I agree, 100%! I tried to explain to a young person that terfs do not want trans people dead, they just don't want men in women's spaces, and stop children being harmed by transition. Nope! I still want to KILL trans people, zero listening, zero understanding. How are they so infantile?! It is maddening.
@scapps8173 It doesn't have to affect others directly. They're just wanting to put the brakes on a little bit, especially for those young people who could have co-morbidities that need to be addressed before they deal with the possible gender dysphoria which can lead to medicalisation.
I know one of those AGP’s. He’s a ‘lesbian’ now and verbally abuses his young daughter if she accidentally calls him daddy still. He made me peak. Completely different to the transexuals I knew of before. They knew their sex. It’s what they were dysphoric about. Nice people. He was such a shock to me. Still is.
When you go so low to abuse your child over a pronoun or your child calling you “daddy” when you clearly are- you should first remove this child from their care and second have said person’s head examined properly.
He also changed himself to mother on the school forms and tells the child he is her biological mother now. The lawyer told actual mum that they can’t touch it. He now has all the rights.
If either of these clinics 'lose' the records, make an official complaint to the ICO. Although there are valid safeguarding reasons for redacting some records they have to be clear why certain records have been redacted.

Certain AGPs might be worthy of some sympathy, and of course most trans identified men aren't predators, but we can't let any of this weaken the line between women and men, and between our spaces and experiences and theirs. The smallest, shyest, most feminine presenting (or sympathy inducing) man is still a man--no exceptions.
At 47:00 The difference between the young person & the grown man is that grown adults know right from wrong & are more obliged to exercise self control.
What if the paths to AGP for both the young man and the older man are the same? Should compassion/understanding be held from one more than the other? As a parent, one of the toughest things I ever had to do was "let go" of my children, let them be adults and make their own adult decisions, and watch them 'wear' the consequences. This happens somewhere between 18 (society's definition,) and 25 (the fully developed pre-frontal cortex/brain). I got around this by educating my kids about their brains, and gradually loosening the intertwined decision making and financial bonds. What the child doesn't realise is that it cuts both ways. Make adult decisions, your parents might not agree with, and you are an adult, making decisions with adult consequences. Some children expect their parent's to "let them go", but do not want to "let go" of their parents. What a terribly sad world we've created.

I haven't gotten that far yet, but it's quite likely if our health professionals practiced true "informed consent" and communicated the actual health risks and risks of regret, we'd likely not have so many who are having the same experience as Tullip and Sinead.

Some of them are victims though. I think moms of kids who detrans who talk about it have every right to talk about what is, essentially, psychiatric abuse.
Parents are told that if they don’t agree to trans their child they are likely to kill themselves. No surprise so many go along with it.

I'm a radfem, I'm against self id and early transition - openly so - but I hope you realize lots of us understand that people that transition often suffer a great deal and we have compassion for that. It's just crazy that these treatments are so freely available to people who are psychologically in a bad state and I wish it never happened to either of you. Until this video I did not realize the detrans man was kind of invisible. I just watched Shape Shifter and Benjamin yesterday and I was left stunned. Now Tullip has brought his voice to the conversation and what a voice it is. I thank him for his insight and compassion even extending this to autogynephilic issues - as I think compassion is what is needed. And Sinead has been a voice in the wilderness and a lighted beacon. Thankyou Ben for bringing these two together. I am learning so much and my heart keeps getting bigger and bigger for people who are suffering and feeling lost. For those who feel they want to detransition they are showing the way. And it is not with activism but with total love.

Okay, so this was an awesome meeting of minds in this 'calmversation' with Tullip & Sinead both being fiercely intelligent, incisive and perfectly posited - not necessarily against one another, but approaching the issue from opposite directions. I love how candid both of you were are it makes me super hopeful for the future. With any hope, in a couple of decades we'll be seeing some kind of royal honours list acknowledgements for Sir Ritchie & Dame Sinead, for their work in tirelessly advocating for children's safety.
On a lighter note, I have to also say that parts of this podcast were beautifully hilarious! Not because of the seriousness of the subject matter, but because within a discussion that covers the mistaken stereotyping of young people, we had a Geordie bloke whose dad was a minor and a Scottish lass whose dad works in the steel industry. New to the detrans community, a UA-camr called Shape Shifter, posted an update to say he is detransitioning, after having bottom surgery and how none of the transition fantasy helped him.

It is bad enough having to take anti-depressants but being dependent on hormones for my mental health would be a nightmare.

I agree with Sinead so much and feel the exact same way as her. It freaks me out, scares me and triggers my fight/flight response to the nth degree.
Tulip is saying let’s not jump to the conclusion the MTF AGPs are doing this with malicious intent and that is a very fair point, but I raise you: women are the marginalized group here and we have the right to look at AGP’s with apprehension…
Scales and context are important. Theres a big difference between a man entering a womens prison and a man struggling with the desire to be a woman, when in fact the desire is to be heard/listened too, but males are sexually fueled...so it does weird things. And sometimes that thing can end up hurting women, no doubt.
I recently had a long and slightly surreal online conversation with a (presumed) straight transvestite who argued that women only recently learned this freakout reaction from 'cultural propaganda', such as movies about cross-dressing serial killers, and from radical feminists. He insisted that most women don't have any instinctive revulsion for such things.
I raised a skeptical eyebrow. In fact I raised both eyebrows. But I'd be interested to hear your take.

There’s a man called Megan Key who is on record saying committing sex offences against women is no bar to the female estate. They said this to parliament so it’s recorded on Hansard. I have blogged about a male rapist in the female estate as early as 2009.

I would like to comment on Sinead's view that mums that trans kids are munching and dads it's homophobia, I think a lot of dads are actually burying their head in the sand over it and mums can be both and neither munching and homophobic. Jazz Jennings mum tried to pray the gay away and was embarrassed trying to explain that her 5 yo son liked playing with barbies. So putting a bow and passing off the kid at a girl probably ruffled less feathers, then perhaps she got addicted to the attention of being this great inclusive mum. There's also something maybe in the way that in a large amount of gender non conforming kids they will likely grow up gay and maybe that makes people uncomfortable as they are thinking about sex in relation to kids? That's potentially societal homophobia where people can't think of same sex attraction in non hyper sexualised way. Gay = aids one night stands cruising in parks, rather than romance between 2 people that happen to be of the same sex
And many boys who like " girly " things won" t be even gay in the future . They just like colourfull and cute things , or rather play in a less competitive and rough way , and it happens to be more common in girl groups . My younger kid is like an old man for some things , but likes painting and , dancing , acting, wearing all kindnof costumes and play in a more colaborarive way, so although he has male friends , if he gets to a place where he doesn' t know the rest of kids , he tends to like playing with the girls more . My husband says that he was the same as a kid . He liked dancing , painting and was not into rough playing at all, and he enjoyed ( and enjoys ) female company better than male .
Loved this conversation! First time I’ve heard and seen Tulip, but not the last. I agree detransitioning men need more support and encouragement. Women have given much support and attention to detransitioning girls and women. I’m guilty of that myself.
I am a die-hard supporter and admirer of Sinead whose clarity of thought, ability to communicate her ideas so eloquently never ceases to amaze me. I agree with everything she says and for the very same reasons. However, I don’t understand the prediction that detransitioning will skyrocket just because it becomes the latest fad or that it will be cult-like. I see detransitioning as returning to oneself with a mind on the mend from a form of mental illness.
And Benjamin, you make it all happen. Especially enjoyed the humor at the end of the video. No detrans flag indeed. Or a white flag, as a symbol of surrender. 😎
At around 57m in... I have some proof that it is definitely a generational issue. Here in Denmark they did a huge study of our sexuality, the Sexus report.
The identity confusion was shown to affect young people mostly, because in older age brackets there were simply less people who described themselves as trans, which suggests the confusion subsides with age and work on the issue.
This aligns with other studies that has shown that the vast majority of trans seem to detransition and find peace in their biological sex. I've heard different numbers ranging from 60 to 80 percent.
Sinead is 100% correct. The words we use are very important. For example, one thing that annoys me is how people will say "biological man" or "biological woman." Although I understand why people say this, there is no need to include the qualifier "biological."

Great talk. One thing i noticed is the total lack of true understanding of the ammount distress of their decision to Transition will have on their families.
You never know that stress, until you become a parent, and your child decides against every piece of knowledge you have tried to instil into them, that they want to do something where it has a 99% probability of failure. And all you can is watch them fail, suffer the consequences, and feel utterly helpless to take their pain away.
Also in certain cultures, Banter is a term of endearment. In the Male environment, not having a nickname i.e. Poof, Bender, Mary, etc. Is an indication, you're not yet included. They are not insults, and you are encouraged to return the favour.
This Generation is all about asking for understanding without accepting that they are not offering any of their own. It is all feelings, self diagnosed victimhood and a burning desire to seek out internet echo chambers that reinforce the current narrative to support your current ideaology, instead of listening to opposing voices and challenging your beliefs.
At the same time though you do need to accept that some trans people do listen to this side (im here for one) but i still dont agree with these people. You can be openminded to listen to all types of people without agreeing.

I agree, 100%! I tried to explain to a young person that terfs do not want trans people dead, they just don't want men in women's spaces, and stop children being harmed by transition. Nope! I still want to KILL trans people, zero listening, zero understanding. How are they so infantile?! It is maddening.
@scapps8173 It doesn't have to affect others directly. They're just wanting to put the brakes on a little bit, especially for those young people who could have co-morbidities that need to be addressed before they deal with the possible gender dysphoria which can lead to medicalisation.

I know one of those AGP’s. He’s a ‘lesbian’ now and verbally abuses his young daughter if she accidentally calls him daddy still. He made me peak. Completely different to the transexuals I knew of before. They knew their sex. It’s what they were dysphoric about. Nice people. He was such a shock to me. Still is.
Who are these super loud abrasive people?
When you go so low to abuse your child over a pronoun or your child calling you “daddy” when you clearly are- you should first remove this child from their care and second have said person’s head examined properly.
He also changed himself to mother on the school forms and tells the child he is her biological mother now. The lawyer told actual mum that they can’t touch it. He now has all the rights.

To me in the end this all looks like an issue of the very human problem of identification. With details or our humanness. Such as our bodies, our achievements, our job, our roles in life. Thing is, all identity is fleeting and transcient, because when the body falls, it is gone. I do not feel that love or life of soul is gone. But the individual human being sure is. No wonder when we have this limited personal perspective that we may feel
a bit of a panic about what we do or look like in this life. We all need grace to open our eyes to the fact that we are not limited, not in charge and not alone in that manner. Our human expressions are gifts from life, not homework. Nor curses.
Now, the narcissistic/cluster b mechanism takes over in this particular field. And the dynamics ut creates is as always mad, cruel and heart breaking. Thank you for helping us all break this particular spell and get out of this cult dynamics.

Certain AGPs might be worthy of some sympathy, and of course most trans identified men aren't predators, but we can't let any of this weaken the line between women and men, and between our spaces and experiences and theirs. The smallest, shyest, most feminine presenting (or sympathy inducing) man is still a man--no exceptions.
And if every woman would realize this we wouldn’t be here. Treating gay men as tho they are female adjacent opened the door for this other stuff.

As a parent, one of the toughest things I ever had to do was "let go" of my children, let them be adults and make their own adult decisions, and watch them 'wear' the consequences. This happens somewhere between 18 (society's definition,) and 25 (the fully developed pre-frontal cortex/brain). I got around this by educating my kids about their brains, and gradually loosening the intertwined decision making and financial bonds. What the child doesn't realise is that it cuts both ways. Make adult decisions, your parents might not agree with, and you are an adult, making decisions with adult consequences. Some children expect their parent's to "let them go", but do not want to "let go" of their parents. What a terribly sad world we've created.
