Very good video. Here's a little trick to help get that upper agitator piece back on. Push the lower half of the agitator on first, making sure the splines on the shaft are aligned with the grooves in the agitator. Set the thrust washer in place. Put together the dog assembly and insert it into the upper agitator piece while holding the upper agitator piece upside down. Turn the agitator over. Here's the trick: Take a 6 inch ratchet extension with a 5/8" socket attached to it. Use the socket to hold the dog assembly in place while aligning the slots with the four tabs that stick up from the lower agitator piece. The 5/8' socket will be pushing on the dog assembly right where the 7/16" bolt will go. When they are aligned, use the socket and extension to push the dog assembly onto the plastic tabs. Voila! Swap the 5/8" socket for your 7/16" socket and you are ready to put in the 7/16" bolt and rubber washer.
For someone who took the his valuable time and got NOTHING monetarily for creating this video, except the gratification of helping others, speaks LOADS of your integrity and your character. Thank you, sir for your time in creating it!!!!!
Thank you, Mark! I am a single lady who fixed my Whirlpool agitator using your video! I ordered the parts and had taken apart fully yesterday and when parts arrived today finished up putting in parts and did a load of laundry ta boot!
I did this dog replacement to my Whirlpool Heavy Duty Super Capacity washer about the same time you made this video. My washer was already 18-years old at the time. Now 26, and still going strong.
I have one of these washers. It works much much better than the newer models. If you have one, do everything you can to keep it operational, including spending the money on repairs. Do NOT get rid of it.
Mark Miller The cabinet on mine has also started to rust, so I went on Facebook Marketplace and found a similar model that has the same cabinet but in much better shape, bought it for 130$ and switched the two out.
Thank you for this wonderful video. I was able to fix my washer in no time at all!! Your detailed explanations were invaluable. This repair cost me $5 and I know it would have been at least $75 for a repairman. Thanks again!!
I was about to drop $500 for a new machine! Excellent video, fixed it myself, total cost half hour of my time and a 4.99 pack of dog ears on Amazon! Thanks for making it simple!
Love the kitty that did the walk-on-by @ 7:46 into this clip. LOL Great tutorial. I had to do this fix as well. Mine was on a Kenmore 80 series. The trick with getting the bolt into the hole to tighten down the auger is this. Take your ratchet with extender and socket on the end and find a small piece of paper towel. Cut it so that it's 4" square. Then fold that square in half then in half again. That should be enough to put over the socket. Next push down the screw so that it forces the paper towel into the socket thus holding the screw inside the socket snugly enough to screw it back into the auger. That's it! Done.
I just wanted to thank you so much for the time you took to show us how to fix this. Mine wouldn't spin anymore and turned out it was just old worn down dogs. (I would have never known had I not seen this video and would have just purchased a new washer.) I found the dogs for about $5 locally and now it's running like new again! Thank you, Thank you!!
Agitator dogs have nothing to do the spin cycle. Thry only keep they top part of the dual action agitator fromfree spinning or turning both ways. It ratchets one way like he said, turning the load in a downward direction. Little confused with your statement. But, glad you got it going!
awesome job - just did this with my husband and its fixed! The washer is 12 years old, but that is the only thing that was wrong with it - works great now!
Thank you so much! Going to show my mom, you have the same washer as hers. I have told her that I can fix this. Now to fix it and save some money. You are a God send! Bless you.
Thanks for sharing this. I've been struggling to get an agitator out that had a severely corroded bolt head so when I finally got it out with a stripped bolt extractor I was frustrated I couldn't pull the agitator assembly apart to change the dogs as most other videos make it seem so easy like it just falls apart. Yours gave a tip to stand on it so you can give it a strong pull and that did the trick.
EXCELLENT WORK, clear, concise and we're up and running in under an hour. I encountered a minor issue caused by my machine. It apparently wore down 2 of the 4 tabs as though me;ted by friction-heat after the machine's dog teeth were worn thru. Simple fix with a Dremel drill and small grinder to remove the meleted portion that was holding back removal. Reassembled and it runs factory smooth. Thanks Mark, again, great work.
Thank you!! I had the same problem and couldn't figure out why my agitator pieces wouldn't separate. I saw your comment and got out my husband's Dremel to grind down the melted portions of the tabs. Problem solved!
I have a Whirlpool Ultimate Care II with this issue. The washer is about 15 years old. I had trouble separating the lower agitator from the top part at first. There are 4 tabs that go through the grooves in the dogs assembly with their tops welded to the assembly cover. You can tell them apart from the cover because it's white plastic vs. transparent plastic of the cover. I used a 1/4 inch wood drill (the one with sharp pin in the middle of the tip so that you can center the drill on the welds and it doesn't slide off) an drilled the welds out. Don't go too far, just enough to break the welds-about 1/2 mm or 0.020 inch. The parts came right apart. Make sure you remove all debris and cut off burrs from the top of the tabs so they don't catch on anything when you put assembly back in. One more advice: clean the o-ring on the top cover and apply some silicon grease to it. It will be easier to put in. Without it the rubber of the o-ring might catch on the inside of the housing and come off. I hope it helps. All together a $5 (plus tools if you don't have them) and 30 minute fix. Awesome! Thanks, Mark
+KD Hovis ..... I don't think you can put too much grease on it as long as it isn't getting all over everything. I'm glad to hear that every thing worked out for you. My washer is still going strong.
+KD Hovis Not sure. Some fabrics seem to tangle up easier than others. My wife's clothes, being lighter and more straps on them, tangle more than my stuff. But it was worse before I put in the new dogs. I think because the clothes kind of got trapped in one area when only the bottom part was working. Once the top part was fixed the clothes moved around better.
Yes, it isnt as bad as before we replaced dogs. Yesterday, I did husband's jacket and a pair of his work pants. The pants were tangled on bottom. Coat was fine. I just never had this problem before. Had the washer 5 yrs!! THANKS! p.s. it is a whirlpool. already has some rust spots! I sanded them off and painted with a rustoleum paint.
+KD Hovis .... Ours has a few rust spots in the drum where the finish must have gotten chipped. I think the wife is hinting that she wants a brand new washer, one of those fancy expensive ones. I really don't think it will do any better job, but, oh well, gotta keep the wife happy;>)
Thank you uploader very much!! Excellent instructions and easy to follow. You did mention the four white tabs on the lower agitator contrary to another poster. I actually found it easier to place the bottom of the agitator in the machine first. Then I lowered the top piece by "eyeballing" the four slots in the dog assembly to the four tabs on the agitator and it slipped right on. The whole job cost me 10 bucks. I'm willing to bet a repairman would have charged in the 200 dollar range to perform this. Thanks again!!
+Russ Collette Glad it helped you and thanks for the positive comment. I can see where putting the bottom part in first would have been an easier way to fit it all back together. And it it is satisfying to do it your self for only 10 bucks.
Thanks for this making this video. It is still helping, many years later. I just fixed my Whirlpool washing machine after viewing your video. Works like new. THANKS!
Thank you Mark, just did a quick Sunday morning repair thanks to your video. And, thanks to William Fox (comment below) who told us how to deal with those pesky locking tabs on the dog assembly.
Great How to... video. Just got finished competing the job with the identical washer. Got the parts I need from Amazon in a couple of days in time for the next wash. Now I know a little more on how the agitator is supposed to work and wonder how long mine was not working properly, thanks to you.
Thanks for the comment. Your right about being able to DIY fixing things with the help of peoples videos. Even if it's something you might not to want to do yourself (I don't like working on cars) you can maybe figure out what the problems are so you can deal better when you take it in for repairs, and maybe not get sold something you don't really need.
Thank you so much it is videos like your that help people fix their problems with little to know money. Not knocking the professionals, but sometimes people do not be having the money they ask for
I just seen this and very good detail of what we need to do our washer went bresk last night and we thought the it broke but it turns out the bolt was lose so we are going to put it back in tonight and see what happens Thank you for this great video!😍😄
When you put the cover over the dogs don't cover the holes in the agitator, the holes are fer the fabric softener to drain out, good job explaining the work
Helped me 2021 - Whirlpool washer, dog lead stuck under the agitator and wound tight around the shaft. Agitator came out exactly as described. I even got the dog lead back in use!
Thank you for taking the time to do this video! For $9 Canadian I was able to replace the feed dogs in my washer and she works as good as new. Thank you!
...I took a little file and chamfered the tops of the splines on the agitator so it was much easier to get the ratchety part lined up on them... Did your cat get extra Friskies for helping out with the making of the video...?
Thanks! Just fixed mine thanks to your video! Only hard part was reattaching the augur to the agitator. Couldn’t get it back on using the new part, so just put the new dogs into the old part and it went back on pretty easily! Thanks again!
Excelent video, I did not know what was happening to my washer, now with your video I know what to do and it will save me some money. I really apreciate it!
I think I have the same problem? I am unable to drain the water either? I put a heavy blanket a few months ago and straight after that's when it started playing up. Cool, I think I need a new agitator or water pump? Thanks for the video it will heap out.
Hi Mark, Thank you very much!Very clear instructions! My clothes wrap around the agitator, and the tub bangs side to side. Do you know if this will fix it?
I have a GE washer and the very middle (what you pulled out) wont move when its running. My question; is the middle augur suppose to move freely when washer isn't being used? Looks like this is what's wrong with mine.
Mine was difficult to seperate even stepping on it I was really pulling hard. wound up kinda beatting on it then parts went fling lol. A lot of washers including whirpool are slightly differant so I had to look at a lot of videos to find yours it is identical to mine. So all fixed thanks
Hi thanks for your video. I'm also having a hard time getting those white pieces to go through all the way I couldn't really see how you're doing it could you please describe it for me if you get a chance thank you
Okay I just figured out why it wasn't going on. I had the yellow retainer cap on upside down once I put that on the opposite way it's slid on perfectly. Thank God, that thing can go on both ways once you try the alternative it slides on like butter
9:40 Seems funny to grease that "thrust washer" since plastic washers such as that usually are known to be pretty much frictionless therefore not needing lubrication?
My dogs seems fine and fixed it the first time by tightening the bolt. It worked fine for a few days and now it seems the dogs still engage but still won't agitate. Can't tighten or loosen the bolt now it just spin. Even if I hold the lower agitator unit the bolt won't loosen
hello, our washer tangles are clothes up, also Could I ask what you concluded with your problem? It appears my "agitator dogs" are working correctly..... so I am confused as to what else the problem may be? Any advice from you would be GREATLY appreciated!! Thanks so much.
To prevent clothing from knotting and twisting: Avoid mixing heavy items with light items. Avoid putting too many or too few items in the washer. Make sure you set the proper water level for the size load you are doing. ... Never wrap the clothes around the agitator. ... Be sure your wash water is not too hot for the fabric.
Thanks for the reply. However, there seems to be something wrong with our washer. It worked fine for about 5 years, and now it seems to only move the agitator in one direction (not back and forth). So, consequently, the clothes get wrapped around the center agitator in a couple minutes, even if I follow all your tips. Do you know what would cause it to only agitate in one direction?? I checked the "agitator dogs", and they are good. Thanks, for any further advice you may have.
Should I be able to hold the bottom agitator by hand? My roper seems like it’s not agitating fast. Spinning and everything else is fine anyone have advice? I’ve replaced a whole upper agitator cam kit.
Don't get a new washer. They are crap today and won't agitate to wash your clothes as good as the one you have. I have one like yours bought in 2006 and I'm refurbishing them. :)
+Mark Miller Do you check back here for comments? and questions? I was curious how much grease we should apply to the bottom bolt (when every thing, agitator, etc, is all pulled out) ? I gave a good smear on it all. Was worried I would put too much or too little. Thanks!
Thank you for the video. We are having trouble getting the agitator back on all the way, it's not wanting to fit all the way back on. Any sugggestions?
Are all the parts lined up right? Check the video again at about 11:10 and see if the tabs are all the way in place. Sorry about my hands being in the way there but was kind of tight. Try wiggling the agitator back and forth a little while pressing down, this might help to line up any prats that are a little off. That's about all I can think of, Good Luck. Mark
Thank you for this video!! Well done! I only have one question! My agitator is going back and forth but much stronger than it was originally! Did I do something wrong since it is not going in one direction?
Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. The agitator does go back and forth when its running. But the auger, the top part that drives the clothes down, pretty much goes in only one direction. As the agitator goes clockwise the dogs pick up on the auger and push it in the same direction. When the agitator goes counter clockwise the dogs release from the auger and it just sits there. These are very short movements. My agitator also seems to be much stronger after I did all this, especially before putting in a load of clothes (I usually run in the water and soap so it mixes good before putting in the load.). So far it is still running OK but the washer is starting to show its age and a new one might be in the near future.
simply turn it upside down and install the dog assembly from the bottom. Also no need for locktite, it is self tightening, just snug it up, and you are good to go.
I have a whirlpool washer everything works but when i put my downy in middle part (i don't know what it's called" It goes right through it into the drum i don't know why pls help!
I have this washer. When it comes to the spin cylce it rattles so hard it moves across the floor. I tried checking the clothes for balance but it doesn't matter the load size or dispersement of the load. Any thoughts? Is there a part inside that maybe needs replacing?
The only thing that comes to mind is the gear that the dogs catch on may be worn, at the 5:42 mark in the video. Other then that would be if things are lined up ok.
Timetryp I kinda learn as I go. Something stops working the way it should, I try to figure it out myself and fix it. So without having had your problem, I'm not sure what would be causing it. But here is a repair site that might help to shed some light on it. www.appliancerepair.net/washing-machine-repair-4.html Check out paragraph 4.3. What it says in part is; "A grinding noise during the agitate or spin cycle may mean that the motor coupling is damaged, but usually it is coming from the transmission". Good luck on figuring it out.
Mark Miller Thanks for the link; I'll check it out. I have the washer on a repair contract, so I'll post what the issue was. Everything in an old Kenmore Series 80 washer was replaced, including the transmission and coupler. I was thinking of filming the repair and posting it, as most videos deal with the upper portion of the agitator mechanism. Thanks for the reply.
Is it normal to go in One direction because I just got an old washer a roper and I can tell that it's just turning one direction is that the way they're built?
+Valorie Gaston If I understand what tabs you are talking about, (tabs that the cam snaps down on) I don't think they can be replaced. You may need to replace the whole agitator unit, that's the bottom half of the thing I took out. Please be aware that I'm not a certified repairman but just figure things out as they happen.
+Valorie Gaston It sounds like you are talking about the agitator dog (part #80040), at 5:50 in the video it shows how to replace just the dogs, you just lift up the "bearing" and lift out the old dogs and place in the new dogs.
Probably a stupid question, but how do you get to keep the top open and it still runs. I can hear that mine isn't working right, but when I open the top it stops the agitator. I need it to run with the top lid open so I can see what's going on with it. Thank you in advance to anyone that can help me.
Open the lid. You'll see a plastic prong on one side. This prong fits into a hole on the machine when the lid is closed. Stick a screw driver into that hole so the machine thinks the lid is closed. Then the machine will do its thing and you'll be able to see whats happening.
My washer will fill up..but then it starts ticking at the knob that u push to start the washer and it will stop it wont wash spin or drain...could anyone help i am a single mom and cant buy another one...
Doesn't agitate at all? Or is it just the auger, the top piece of the agitator. If neither one of these is working I would suspect that it might be a worn gear on the shaft that comes up from the transmission. Sorry I can't help you more.
I think it's not agitating at all. The lock latches once the agitating is supposed to start so I can't know for sure. I'll start with the gear...thanks
What you failed to tell people is the four white tabs on the lower agitator must fit into the four openings on the piece that holds the dog fins. Two of mine had broke off and were attached to that plastic piece. Now I have to buy the lower agitator and the plastic piece. This is getting more and more expensive.
Robert Wilmoth Check the video from time 10:18 to 11:50. I think these are the tabs your referencing? If they are, I think that I explained it very well that these had to be lined up and snapped into place.
+Kassi Stewart .....Pretty much as you see me do it in the video. I didn't have hard shoes on, just my moccasin slippers, stood on the agitator, and then pulled the auger up. I wiggled it side to side, occasionally changing my position, and pulled up at the same time. Don't hold the edges of the augers' spiral part that drives the clothes down. Make sure you your pulling up with your fingers right against the augers' main body. That should help prevent breaking that part. Hope this helps. Good luck getting it apart.
unbeknownst to even some repair people there IS a model whirlpool where they glued or plastic welded hidden tabs...I have seen several posts about these and always the resident experts do not understand the problem having never come across it apparently ...the good news is the tabs are small thin plastic in thin slots right up there on top...I did not understand until I soaked my entire assembly in very hot water for several minutes and FINALLY brute force snapped the tabs...THEN I saw them and was OH THAT is what they are talking about! I WOULD have tried simply a sharp blade screw driver as a chisel and just put it in each slit and whack it a few times...I THINK that would have fractured the glue or weld or whatever they used and allowed the agitor to come free of the turbine piece...ALSO like some others I had some difficulty removing the bolt too...I think it was locktighted in with that glue compound for bolts ...what worked there was actually tightening it more and then loosen and tighten loosen until it freed up and came off...evidently the profit people in the washing machine business do not REALLY want us maintaining our own machines?? Also even though the main dog hub LOOKS different from the normal piece shown in kits...the dogs are the same and really are all that need to be replaced anyhow I recon ...what they would LOVE for you to do is to buy the entire assembly rather than buying dogs on ebay for $3 (including shipping) ... It ought to be illegal that kind of crap! THAT is not just "business" or "smart"... it is wicked and evil!! Thankfully we have each other! Pay it forward brothers!!
Thanks for the info!! Really appreciate the extra help. I put 2 annotations on the video directing people to read your comment if they are having these problems. You said a mouthful on the manufacturers evil intents. It is one of my pet peeves that we are supposed be so "environmentally conscious" but yet these people can make everything "disposable" rather than fixable. Forcing people to buy more stuff and send more stuff to the landfills. And don't get me going on plastic packaging, a 3 inch item in a foot square double chunk of plastic? Not even a kind of plastic that can be recycled. Thanks againMark
+ghermitboy Very good advice. Thanks for the comment.

Thanks for the video you save me $200.00 plus
I switched the dogs but the actual agitator isn't moving idk what it can be

Cheap, considering he has to drive to your home and the cost of the parts.
I wanna thank the guy who made this video. I fixed my washer myself and didn't need to get a repair guy
Good video. But do I have to keep the water in the tub while I am removing all the parts from inside the tub? Thanks.
I just seen this and very good detail of what we need to do our washer went bresk last night and we thought the it broke but it turns out the bolt was lose so we are going to put it back in tonight and see what happens
Thank you for this great video!😍😄
When you put the cover over the dogs don't cover the holes in the agitator, the holes are fer the fabric softener to drain out, good job explaining the work
Helped me 2021 - Whirlpool washer, dog lead stuck under the agitator and wound tight around the shaft. Agitator came out exactly as described. I even got the dog lead back in use!
Thank you for taking the time to do this video! For $9 Canadian I was able to replace the feed dogs in my washer and she works as good as new. Thank you!
That's pretty darn good, $9 Canadian! Glad to have helped. Thanks for commenting.Mark
My Amana IS NEW and the agitator looks good. I guess I must go deeper
...I took a little file and chamfered the tops of the splines on the agitator so it was much easier to get the ratchety part lined up on them... Did your cat get extra Friskies for helping out with the making of the video...?
I ordered the parts and it took me about ten minutes to fix it. Thanks so much for posting this video!!
Glad to have helped. Thanks for commenting.Mark
Thx!
Where do you order the parts from though?
I think I have the same problem? I am unable to drain the water either? I put a heavy blanket a few months ago and straight after that's when it started playing up. Cool, I think I need a new agitator or water pump?
Thanks for the video it will heap out.
This works, but be careful on the pull apart. I snapped 1/4 inserts to the base. Luckily it still came back together. Good video. Thanks
Hi Mark, Thank you very much!Very clear instructions! My clothes wrap around the agitator, and the tub bangs side to side. Do you know if this will fix it?
Thank you thank you thank you for posting this Detailed repair video, saved me lots of money!
Thank you, saved my marriage.
Kkkkkkkkk
Thx I've had my imperial series washer going since 2002 the dogs were just gone and hard this video helped me make it run like new again.
I have a GE washer and the very middle (what you pulled out) wont move when its running. My question; is the middle augur suppose to move freely when washer isn't being used? Looks like this is what's wrong with mine.
You can also use a silicone grease on the thrust washer
Awesome video. Didn't realize this was such an easy inexpensive fix. Thank you for sharing! Blessings from Motown.
More vids of this tipe of machine please!!!!!! :)
Great job, watched your video to see how to get the assembly apart, and learned a great deal more.
THANKS SO MUCH for making the video!
Our washer TANGLES our clothes up!
Is this a symptom of worn out "dogs"???
Thank you again!!
hello, our washer tangles are clothes up, also
Could I ask what you concluded with your problem?
It appears my "agitator dogs" are working correctly..... so I am confused as to what else the problem may be?
Any advice from you would be GREATLY appreciated!!
Thanks so much.
To prevent clothing from knotting and twisting:
Avoid mixing heavy items with light items.
If your clothes are wrapped around agitator it is not the dogs.
The Whirlpool built direct drive washers are way better than the new belt drive models, Cabrio HE top loaders, Duet Front loaders.
Should I be able to hold the bottom agitator by hand? My roper seems like it’s not agitating fast. Spinning and everything else is fine anyone have advice? I’ve replaced a whole upper agitator cam kit.
I cant separate agitator top and bottom any suggestions?
Don't get a new washer. They are crap today and won't agitate to wash your clothes as good as the one you have. I have one like yours bought in 2006 and I'm refurbishing them. :)
Thank you a lot! My machine had the same problem! Now all works like new!
What if the bottom agitator isn't moving?
Thanks to your video I was able to fix our washer. Great job! Thank you 👍🏼
Thank you for your time to put up this small Video ... Saved me BIG !!! Thanks Again.
+bfpw995 Glad it helped. Mark
+Mark Miller Do you check back here for comments? and questions? I was curious how much grease we should apply to the bottom bolt (when every thing, agitator, etc, is all pulled out) ? I gave a good smear on it all. Was worried I would put too much or too little. Thanks!
@@MarkMillerIsGardening Look at that, 5 years later...looking at your video again and doing the same repair, thanks again Mark!
Thanks for this. Now I know exactly what to do to repair mine. Saved me the expense of a costly repairman call.👍🇨🇦
Thank you very much Mark! I fixed my washer machine by myself! Very easy with your instructions!
What if the bottom spins freely but connected to it
Thank you for your video! I fixed my washer all by myself, for under 10 bucks!
thank you for putting this video out .
simply turn it upside down and install the dog assembly from the bottom. Also no need for locktite, it is self tightening, just snug it up, and you are good to go.
I have a whirlpool washer everything works but when i put my downy in middle part (i don't know what it's called" It goes right through it into the drum i don't know why pls help!
My part is really tight how can i make it come apart? I already soaked with hot water and its still very tight
Sorry Brenda. I don't know what to tell you about that. Which part is tight?
I have this washer. When it comes to the spin cylce it rattles so hard it moves across the floor. I tried checking the clothes for balance but it doesn't matter the load size or dispersement of the load. Any thoughts? Is there a part inside that maybe needs replacing?
Sorry, I don't have a good answer for you. It sounds kind of serious. it must be something under the wash tub.
Your direct drive coupling is probably going. You can get one on Amazon for under $10.
Thanks was a big help ..clear instructions and detailed video hit the spot!
Thank you for this mine is just like yours I ordered the dogs from Walmart you're an answer to prayer
I replaced the dawgs and the work properly. But the slip when I wash a load. Any suggestions?
The only thing that comes to mind is the gear that the dogs catch on may be worn, at the 5:42 mark in the video. Other then that would be if things are lined up ok.
@@wisgardener how can I tell if the gear is worn out. It seems fine
Thank you,
This video shows the washer I was repairing. You were a great help.
😊😊😊
Glad to have helped. Thanks for commenting.Mark
I love Whirlpool washers, have had two. The downside their agitators could have been designed a bit better.
Thanks for teach !! Regards from México
Thank you
Thank you for this video. I was able to repair the washer with your help.
thank you so much it's been many years since I've had to do this I definitely needed your refresher course lol thanks again
Glad to have helped. Thanks for commenting.Mark
Great video. My washer works like new again!
excellent explanation. thanks for sharing! you've got my respect!
Thank you :>)
What causes a washer agitator base to spin only counter clockwise on high speed agitation, while emitting a grinding noise?
Is it normal to go in One direction because I just got an old washer a roper and I can tell that it's just turning one direction is that the way they're built?
what if the 4 white plastic tabs higher than the bolt in the plastic gears are all broken? how do you get them out and replace them?
+Valorie Gaston If I understand what tabs you are talking about, (tabs that the cam snaps down on) I don't think they can be replaced. You may need to replace the whole agitator unit, that's the bottom half of the thing I took out. Please be aware that I'm not a certified repairman but just figure things out as they happen.
+Valorie Gaston
It sounds like you are talking about the agitator dog (part #80040),
at 5:50 in the video it shows how to replace just the dogs, you just lift up the "bearing" and lift out the old dogs and place in the new dogs.
I have a Whirlpool WTW4800BQ1. It spins out but doesn't seem to be agitating. Any ideas?
Doesn't agitate at all? Or is it just the auger, the top piece of the agitator. If neither one of these is working I would suspect that it might be a worn gear on the shaft that comes up from the transmission. Sorry I can't help you more.
I think it's not agitating at all. The lock latches once the agitating is supposed to start so I can't know for sure. I'll start with the gear...thanks
Thank you! I was able to repair my washer for less than $4 in parts!
Glad to have helped. Thanks for commenting.Mark
This was spot on!! Perfect part, easy fix.
Excellent instructions!! Thank you for saving me $$
Thank you, Mark! Pity you couldn't have had $1 per view.. $650,000 would buy you a new washing machine, with plenty of change left over :-)
What you failed to tell people is the four white tabs on the lower agitator must fit into the four openings on the piece that holds the dog fins.
Thanks so much! Gonna order parts and try myself
Glad to have helped. Thanks for commenting.Mark
you can tell its broken when he turns the top part of the agitator counterclockwise and the bottom of the agitator doesn't move with it
also 2:17 so that is what the square holes on the agitators are for (on the models that don't have a fabric softener dispenser on top of the agitator)
Very clear and well explained. Thanks.
when the auger was on the agitator snug how where you able to get it off? I keep pulling and am afraid I am going to break something!
Does anyone have links to parts
Thank you for taking the time and for all your effort to make this video. Great job well done!
