      Hi SC TRD , thank you!! I am glad that you found my video helpful for setting up your new 9700! I wish I also had the 7610 but that will hopefully be in the not to distant future! I really like my 7300 and of course it looks great being right next to the 9700! I will be snatching up the IC-705 when it comes out and look forward to doing many videos on it too! Thanks for watching 73 K4BBC

      Hi Matt Foley, I am glad you liked my videos on Programming FM Repeaters!! I plan to be doing many more videos on this great radio in the future! I will also be doing videos on the Kenwood TH-D74a on how to program it for Repeaters and HotSpots as well as showing it receiving HF SSB on 20, 40 and 80 meters with a small magnetic loop receiving antenna that is portable and sits right on top of the radio! Thanks for watching and commenting 73’s K4BBC

      Thank You David Edger! It is a very nice and capable Rig for sure and if you already own or are familiar with a 7300 or 7610 you should feel right at home operating the 9700! I am looking forward to hearing more information on the Icom IC-705 that was just announced as I had been holding off on getting a QRP Rig do to waiting for one with very similar features that were announced on the 705! 73’s

    I just got my 9700 is there a way to put 2m and 440 in the same memory back for scanning

    • @PrecisionGroupYT
      @PrecisionGroupYT  3 роки тому

      Unfortunately No! As VFO A & VFO B can only do one band at a time so either 2m or 70cm but not both! This is one of the disappointing quirks of this radio! You would have to scan all your 2m memories in VFO A and then use VFO B to scan your 440 memories I hope this helps answer your question! 73

    Icom has always been very wonderful. I have hand held icoms i have an Icom 5100s for Cross band repeating and I have an I come 7300. They are all fantastic. But Icom is beginning to fall through the cracks. It looks like the 9700 has left out the Cross band repeat function. I was already to remove my Icom 5100 from my go box and put in a 9700 until I found out once again Icom has gotten so close to the brass Ring but then dropped it. As far as I can understand the 9700 cannot cross band repeated.

      @PrecisionGroupYT  4 роки тому

      Hey Doc, yeah no cross band Repeating capability that I am aware of and there are a few quarks about the radio that can be a bit annoying but I do not regret my purchase and I am glad I waited a bit to purchase it after it had come out as I saved like $600 over the original release asking price!! I have however thus far overall been impressed with both my ICOM’s (7300 + 9700) and am really excited and looking forward to picking up the new IC-705 Rig when it is available! I almost purchased an ID-51a when I was getting into D-star but after taking another look at the Kenwood TH-D74a I decided to go that route instead and it’s a great HT (but a bit pricey) but everyone I have pretty much heard on D-star with a D74 has really liked the radio! Thanks for commenting and take care and have fun on the air 73 K4BBC

      PrecisionGroupYT Thank you so much for that comment. My Icom 5100 takes up two slots in my go box. I will probably Go ahead and get The 9700 to fill up one of the slots So I can start working satellites and then also get me a Kenwood TM-710GA To fill in the second spot that can do Echolink and Cross band repeat and packet and text messaging and can act as a digipeter.
      My go box I’m working on already has an Icome 7300. Therefore I should have all bases covered.

      PrecisionGroupYT if you are looking for a QRP rig you might want to look at the Xiegu G 90. It has a fantastic internal antenna tuner that is so good it could probably tune up a head of lettuce and it also has an antenna analyzer that the 705 does not have. If you don’t have a perfectly resonant antenna you will have to have an external antenna tuner for the 705 but you do not with the XieguG90 And did you know it’s a fraction of the cost of the 705 Icom. I have one and it is absolutely dynamite

    • @PrecisionGroupYT
      @PrecisionGroupYT  4 роки тому

      I would probably lean more towards the. Xiegu 5105 before the G90 do to it’s size and I am not terribly worried about an antenna tuner as I plan on having a resonant antenna which would be best for QRP since you don’t want much loss at your antenna when using such low power. Thank you kindly for the suggestion and information Doc 73 Sir

    • @docpearson
      @docpearson 4 роки тому

      PrecisionGroupYT yeah the Xiegu X5105 I have one of those too Only five watts. Great litte radio. They put a great internal antenna tuner in tha one too. It actually cost a little more than the xiegu g90. I like a resonant antenna but I also really love my chameleon cha micro 60 foot wire but does require an antenna tuner to use all bands 6m to 160m. The Xiegu g90 in an emergency can go up to 20 watts and works like a dream with my cha micro antenna. But if you want to go really light and have to use a “perfectly” resonant antenna and dont mind giving up all the bands so as not to lose even one of the precious watts then the Xiegu X5105 can do it. But I cheat a little with my X5105. I hate admitting it but I ran across a CB long rubber duck antenna and with the internal antenna tuner on the Xiegu X5105 I can work the 10m band. 😂 I know some may think that is a sacrilege bit it works on 10m. But I do like the versatility of being able to work all the bands well. The combination of my Very light Xiegu 90 with its dynomite internal antenna tuner and antenna analyser built in with my Chameleon cha micro 60 foot wire is a combination made in ham radio heaven. The beauty of the G 90 is that it has an internal antenna tuner. I can use that in the field with a length of wire and cut it to be perfectly resonant using the internal antenna analyzer. I’m telling you that xiegu G90 is one verastile dream machine for me. Of course what is good for one person May not be for another. I completely understand that. I just know with one long length of wire (I keep a long spool of wire in my trunk for emergencies) and my xiegu g90 with its internal antenna analozer in the field I can cut That wire resonant to any length I want.

    Nice video, and easy to duplicate. One thing I noticed that is NOT on my screen and that is an indication just below the "AGC-F" on the upper right of the screen, when you transmit it displays "- 600 Khz" That does not happen on my display. Everything else is the same. Any idea why this would be ?
    Thanks. K2WH

      Hi K2WH the -600khz is the offset for the current settings showing up (Duplex setting). I hope this answers your question 73
