Nice comparison. I was able to make a decision after watching your video. Your voice over is perfect. Fast & right to the point. All the best to you. Thank you for the video.
Thank you for making this video because I’m still so undecided! I’ve used MacBook Pros since they came out, but now that my current one that is about 6 years old needs $500 in repairs, I’m ready to upgrade! Now that iPad Pro is so amazing it’s really tempting to try it. I’m just an old retired lady who likes photography, music, and art. I’d love to learn procreate but can I still do quality photo editing and make little fun movies on an iPad?
Oh yes definitely! The iPad Pro would be perfect for you and everything you plan on doing. It’ll be very easy for you to work with in your office but anywhere else too as it’s very portable and can fit in any type of bag. Grab the Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil with it. The Procreate experience is so much better with the Apple Pencil! Thanks for watching and have a great day!
2:59 You're using the WHITE wireless keyboard here... right? Please don't laugh at me... (LOL) I have used a Laptop for years without an external keyboard... This is new to me.. BUT I love the thought of using the iPad with that WHITE keyboard.
Oh yeah, I think with the additions of Final Cut and Logic to the iPads more professionals and creators will start using it for sure! The question is how will the experience using those apps compare with on the Macs? If it’s the same, you’ll start seeing more people using the iPad for their projects but if it isn’t, I think it’ll be used for smaller projects and the Macs will still be dominant for larger scale things. We’ll have to wait a few months and see to determine if the iPad can actually replace a MacBook for these types of workflows.
Thanks for the video. How much RAM do you have? I was told that for Lightroom/ premiere pro use 16GB is enough; but kinda feel like 32GB would be better, but it is just gut feeling.

Hello! Thank you for taking the time out to watch the video! I appreciate it! For the iPad I would highly recommend the iPad Air for you. It’s a larger display and also has the M1 chips in it to give you a much smoother experience. For the MacBook Air if you can just get the M2. It’s the newer chip and will perform much better. For the size I prefer smaller screens as it’s easier to travel around with but if you’ll be using the MacBook at home a lot definitely get the extra screen space with the 15”. “If I were able to code on this thing, I probably wouldn’t own a MacBook…” - That’s about where I am now. I LOVE the platform, but for some the iPad apps (e.g., Photoshop) the iPad version is just way, way behind the Mac version. That said, based on your video, perhaps I need to start watching movies on m MacBook.
Hello Imaad! Great video you have here, So I'm a freshman in Graphic Design, and I'm still undecided, I know we as students are strongly suggested for our sophemore year to have a macbook pro. But since ipads right now are monsters, I'm kind of undecided, I will use adobe a lot and would love to draw with the pencil on procreate too. So I'm kind of doubting a lot here. I will check w/my school but I want to know your opinion too.
Hey! If you’re going to use Adobe a lot I would recommend getting a Mac. Adobe apps are a lot better on Mac as on the iPad they are technically “mobile versions” lacking the same capabilities. This is at least from my experience using apps like Lightroom and Photoshop. You being a Graphics Design student will use way more Adobe apps than those two. As for the iPad and Apple Pencil I think you would have to sacrifice that experience for now as the MacBook would be a better device suited for your workflow. Unless you have the budget, you could look into the iPad Airs as they have Apple Silicon chips are very powerful too. Whenever you buy, make sure to purchase from Apple’s Education store as you’ll get a student discount. I hope this helps and thanks for watching. Good luck in the rest of your school year!
The iPad can't be your only computer. even if it gets the ob done for you now... you may find yourself in a situation where you find that the iPadOS simply missing basic features that preventing you from doing some basic tasks... for example, you can't do a zoom call and record it at the same time... for this simple task you have to use the MacBook. I'm currently using the iPad Air 5 for entreatment, social media, and reading. which are tasks I can do on the MacBook without any issues, but the iPad gives a better experience. and tbh I can sell the iPad without affecting my daily life.
True! You make some good points! The iPad is far from perfect especially when comparing to the MacBook, but they’ve gotten good these days where most can do their basic work on the iPad. Like you said the iPad gives a better experience with the portability and touch screen, making it a preferred device for quite a few people. The MacBook is still king though especially for higher in demand workflows.
Can't you record a zoom call using Screen Record? You're right though, the MacBook and iPad are almost designed to compliment one another. I've almost always had one of each and they serve very different purposes in my life - my iPad for example has all kinds of coloring games and touch-interactive games for kids that I use in my lessons that wouldn't work on the Mac.
