I am 51 years old, retro hardcore old fart video gamer since 1982. I grew up with Spectrum ZX, Commodore, Amstrad and of course later on with IBM Compatibles. I lived the whole '80s, '90s and early '00s hype of good video games, video games which were trying to trigger your mind and not just shoot around aimlessly, text adventures was an example. Beyond some retro titles like SABOTEUR 2, LEMMINGS, DRAGON's LAIR, MONKEY ISLAND and many many CRPGs, DIABLO II together with DEUS EX and HALF-LIFE became milestones something you do not find nowadays. And in the case of DIABLO II everything, but EVERYTHING worked well; graphics, plot, skill tree, music. Let's admit it; we will never have such an epicness in our hands. And that's why after +20 years, I still play it reaching my Paladin lvl 90 for the first time. P.S.: Towards younger video gamers; if you like a good adventure video game, I recommend THE LONGEST JOURNEY, a journey which combines cyberpunk with High Fantasy elements. Loved it.
Hey man, glad to hear from a fellow old school gamer. I'm 45 myself. Definitely playing computer games already in the 80s .. C64, Atari, Amiga, and so on. PC gaming from around 1990 I'd say, and the Quest for Glory/Sierra games were my thing back then. Diablo II really took the whole thing to another level for me - I've played it SO much - just like you and many others are describing. It's quite simply a great game. It can't be 'copied' - first of all it's a fantastic game in its own right (and I do love that they did D2R also), secondly one can't simply go ahead and make the SAME game with a few tweaks and expect it to be just as good. There are 'mods' for that. D3 was decent for a while, D4 was decent for a while, I can understand why people play it but they really do NOT match up to D2 at all. Honorable mentions: PoE and Last Epoch, both are better games than both D3 and D4, definitely. Thanks for your comment and keep the enthusiasm alive!
That's is a masterpiece! Thank you sir! It's really cool to see that you really took care of every single detail. I'm amazed by some of the photos and it's really cool that you tagged the songs by time. Thanks a lot!

4:44 is one of my favourite gaming themes. Really depicts the bleakness of Harrogath and Mount Arreat. Could easily have been written by Gustav Holst or Ralph Vaughan Williams
Thanks, late reply here ... If you mean the choice of imagery, well, thank you, but in any case the Diablo 2 music is in itself a fantastic thing, it's good ambient/atmosphere/background music if you will, quite a unique thing for sure!
I play Immortal now. Tbh its not there anymore, same for D3. Just listening this music brings all my childhood back. Thanks brother, for showing me this game. Always in my ❤
"Tyreal was a fool to have trusted me! You see, it was I who told Diablo and his brothers about the soulstones, and how to corrupt them. It was I who helped the Prime Evils mastermind their own exile to your world. The plan we set in motion so long ago cannot be stopped by any mortal agency. Hell, itself, is poised to spill forth into your world like a tidal wave of blood and nightmares. You and all your kind... are doomed."
Love the video! I keep coming back for more. The nostalgia is real here. Memories from being in grade 7. 3 of my friends and I got the game at launch. Good times!
Still amazing. D2R is a great 'remake' to be fair, but I completely understand those who prefer the original classic version, especially because of the availability of great mods that exist out there.
Nothing can compare to the ground-breaking effort of Matt Uelmen, this soundtrack and Diablo II itself paved the way for an entire industry. The 'ARPG genre' would be nothing or at least very different if it wasn't for Diablo II.
Diablo series have always special place in my heart and in my opinion Tristram music is the best in game music ever composed soo far , i also love the other musics of Diablo games :) .
I think that many have a similar feeling. One can't go back in time but set aside some time for a real playing session, undisturbed, with the in game music .. go for it :)
What great pieces of work these are. GenXr's have grown up playing these, and now we can pick up the mantle and continue the story and lore. This is Sanctuary.
Yes. Now, with Diablo IV I think many are playing ARPGs for the first time, which is great, but I wish that many of those would also go back and see what Diablo II and to some extent even Diablo III has to offer.
The 'Harrogath/Town' track kinda makes you feel that you've arrived somewhere, finally. Overall it's amazing how the developers managed to attribute a certain feel to every little detail. Diablo 2's success is a product of the intertwining of the storyline, the music, the replayability, the innovation, so much more ..

@@rebjorn79 I really miss the old skool CRPGs e.g. THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER Trilogy...
It's still out there and yeah I remember that too ;-)
Noticed you didn't mention Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines, Nines.
@@jasonholt1776 I try NOT to violate Camarilla...
That's is a masterpiece! Thank you sir!
It's really cool to see that you really took care of every single detail. I'm amazed by some of the photos and it's really cool that you tagged the songs by time. Thanks a lot!
That is high praise indeed, all credit to the artists.
Only took me 5 years to reply but hey .. good game ^^
I still occasionally pop this up on my 2d screen while playing D2R :)
@@rebjorn79 Good hearing from you! Even being after 5 years hehehe Now.. stay a while and listen... =)
@ Fique um pouco e ouça!
This is really well done and the transitions, background art, scrawling... it's all got so much heart. Thank you for taking the time to make this.
You're most welcome! I'm glad to see so many supportive comments. I remember that I did spend a lot of time on this one, more than one would guess at first glance perhaps :-)
Thank you - i appreciate all the hard work you put into this. No better way to pump yourself up to D2 Resurrected.
Awesome bro thanks for that! Looking forward to the release!
4:44 is one of my favourite gaming themes. Really depicts the bleakness of Harrogath and Mount Arreat. Could easily have been written by Gustav Holst or Ralph Vaughan Williams
One of my favorites as well! D2's soundtrack overall is just great, and it set standards for an entire industry.
Wilderness for me.
It is very reminiscent of the Conan soundtrack which is what I think they were going for since I believe it plays in the barbarian town.
@@tylerdinho14The original Conan the Barbarian soundtrack by Basil Pouledaris is amazing.
one of the perfect background of all time!
Always in my ❤
D2 really is the OG, the newer games seem to add too much complexity and they're not even doing it right.
10/10 would stay a while and listen!
Can't stay long but I'll listen while I can. Thanks guy
NP guy. At least you stayed awhile. And hey, you can always return later!
Milan Kolarski
- You have not failed, Marius. You have done exactly as you were meant to do..
- No.. Baal...
Or something like that. Flashbacks!
I totally heard the tyreal was a fool to have trusted me hahaha
Somebody call... THE DOOMSLAYER
"Izual was weak, he squandered his infernal power."
And so it was...God flooded the Earth and only Noahs Arc was spared
Love the video! I keep coming back for more. The nostalgia is real here. Memories from being in grade 7. 3 of my friends and I got the game at launch. Good times!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Had no idea the title theme was actually part of the "Ancients" track. One of the best.
It's great, they're all great :-)
Stayed a while and listned, would do so again.
brought the bong with me. gonna stay awhile🖖
You still there?
rebjorn79 apparently he’s not lmao
Still around?
@@rebjorn79 Im here citizens

Best Game - best music - just awesome.
Still amazing. D2R is a great 'remake' to be fair, but I completely understand those who prefer the original classic version, especially because of the availability of great mods that exist out there.
Back again. What a game. Masterpiece.
'Tristram' is many people's favorite, for me 'Wilderness' is #1.
This is so peaceful. Because of the music and because it reminds me of the most peaceful time I had when I played this game.
I think that many have a similar feeling. One can't go back in time but set aside some time for a real playing session, undisturbed, with the in game music .. go for it :)
Rogue.. Quantas madrugas nao passei escutando esse som enquanto organizava minhas pedras no banco 🥲
Parece uma vida boa :-)
Surviving on these morsels as I patiently await for Resurrected to come out
Good list here. Downloaded it on my end. Enjoy this at work. I hope Diablo IIII brings us back to it's bloody roots. 👍
Hopefully they've got a competent team going and we'll have the best of all previous Diablo games all in one awesome experience.
@@rebjorn79ha
I stayed a while and listened again.
Do it again!
@@rebjorn79 Clam down Deckard! I'll do!
Stay awhile and listen😍😍😍
I also stayed awhile, and I also listened. Must be contagious.
Wait until you hear the Deckard Cain Rap!
just got goosebumps for 1 minute
This soundtack has that kind of power ;-)
@@rebjorn79 especially at the very beginning, I remember in 2000 inserting the cd rom and having that kind of feeling where you step out of reality.
I know that feeling. I still have several CD-ROM copies of the game stashed away safely ;-)
My favourite is Town, the Haroggath music, is so good!
Every single time I play these songs, while I do my homework. This relaxes me and focus me at the questions. Its so good!@@rebjorn79
I can totally relate to that.
¡Te quedó increíble el listado!, ¡muchas gracias! Yo también soy fan de Diablo II y esta música me trae bonitos recuerdos cuando jugaba de niño este juego.
De nada :)
I play these old songs watching Castlevania. You should also stay, and listen.
I stayed a while, and listened. I will stay a bit more now...
Rest easy, traveler.
I played this so much back in the day...hardcore pvp on a 56k modem, quite intense
Oh joy. And preferably playing melee in CS before they nerfed Oblivion Knights :-)
@@rebjorn79 haha yes indeed i remember that...oh boy
D2 remake pls
funding pls
You need to secure the rights and you need the real blizz north devs for this. So have fun getting that first :D
I don't think, that the funding would be the primary issue
D1 for me please.
If a kickstarter for Diablo II remake is announced it will break 5 million by the 3rd day...
The second track keeps teasing me... I had to go to classic Tristram music right away...
I love that track. Hopefully the Diablo IV Music will be awesome, too.
Always down to stay a while and listen!
Me2 bro/sis
This is PERFECT for background music for Curse of Strahd
Glad you enjoy it. I use it for various ARPGs especially. I often keep it open on a 2d screen while playing.
Awesome collection of artwork for the backdrops! And of course great music too!
the song Ancients at 48:50 is clearly a reference to the Tristan und Isolde overture by Wagner. huh, i guess that's why the town is named Tristram
Loved this, my friend and i play d3 alot amd we enjoy coop lots, too!
You have quite a treasure there in that Horadric Cube!
Indeed. But I have no idea what to do with it!
