When installing pedals or bottom brackets I deliberately start by screwing backwards until I hear/feel the threads skip. Then I start to tighten it. This reduces the risk of misaligning the threads.
I damaged the thread on cranks a year ago as I tightened with a tool rather than getting things started by hand and then finishing with a tool. Luckily a local shot drilled the threads out. Fitted an insert. Repair was like £10.
Handy way to loosen a really tight pedal.... Sit on the bike. Place a block under the other crank at the back (back pedal onto the block.) reach down with the tool on the tight pedal, tool out the the front... Pull up keeping your weight on the seat. This will also work if the 'other' pedal has already been removed (as long as the crank can come down on the block). Best block size... just slightly lower than the bottom bracket bearing. (while your sitting on it to account for suspension sag...)
Thank you for the video, it was very informative and it helped me figure out how to remove my pedals. BTW, the terminology rotate towards the front of the bike is ambiguous and without the video I would not have know what you meant. In the future consider using clockwise and counterclockwise , the standard way to define the direction of rotating a tool.
Great explanation Blake. I always tried to remember which way to tighten and loosen the pedals, and your hints make it so much easier to remember. Thanks for the share.
two days ago was my first time at a mtb park luckily i met nice people who said i could ride with them they wanted to teach me some tips but they didn’t know i watched gmbn videos for years
@@gmbn it was great much better than i expected it was very technical and lots of climbs that drained me everyone i talked to said this is the wrong place to start out because of how technical it is but i luckily knew what and when to do it
Nice! Sometimes it's good to take bike parks nice and chilled until you're comfortable with the trails. It was good that you set yourself a challenge though! Safe riding! 👍
My friend and I cut a piece of metal to match the pedal post and then welded an 8 foot bar to the metal piece we made so we could break it free. Yes we were spinning in the right direction, just the last person did not put grease on the threads when they installed the pedals. Luckily the threads on the cranks were still good after that. (We broke two spanners trying to take off the pedal :D)
@@DavidSmith-fx8lo My pedals were installed on the store when i got the bike. I want to change pedals now its like it was glued or something. One side i could open. the right side is dead stuck. Im 6.8 110 kg gymrat and still barely opened one side. I dont have good tools though, ill take it to the store tomorrow to see if with their tools they can help to open. Its a fucking nightmare.
So I went to remove my pedal and we broke the spanner because the pedal was not greased during installation. We had to weld an 8 foot metal bar to the pedal to generate enough leverage to break it free. Luckily the crank thread was still good for the new pedals i was installing.
I had a screaming meltdown in my garage when I was installing pedals on my first bike last year. Didn't figure out one side was reverse threaded until youtube told me.
To remove, use a T allen key, bike upside down, brace the top of T agaist the rear tyre and loosen... bracing like this means u dont need to hold anything to stop rotation

Can you do a video and and you ever UA-cam channels of how to wash your Garmin heart rate monitor strapped and how to change the battery

I do the same thing 😂
'BACK OFF"
Is how I remember.
Great video as usual.
You wont believe me but I almost destroyed my crank thread yesterday! This video came one day late! :) Thanks anyway

i just did this on my week trip to wales missed a full day riding as ther einsert needs 24 houes to dry cost me £34 but worked a treat.

Perfect explanation, walked out to the garage and 10 minutes later, done!

Which grease should i use when i add pedals?
When I put paddles in I always struggle with this thanks
Hope it helps you Roelof! 👊
Great and practical video clip !Thank you.

Easiest way to remember the direction is "Back Off".
Thats great Blake but wheres the van build? :)
How many times has this channel done a video on how to change peddles
Great one Blake! 👌👌
Thanks brother for the amazing tip's And ideas God bless you brother
Is it good to use pedal extenders for aggressive riding?
Love it! Thanks
Very helpfull! 🙂👍
Funnily enough im ordering new pedals tomorrow lol only messed up pedal sides once years ago lol never again lol
Ouch! Hopefully it was the non-drive side as it's a little cheaper. - What new pedals are you getting?

Pedal threads are ONLY place to use Anti-seize (copper grease) on a bike. And always use it on them
Yep, my pedals are stuck in my cranks 🤦🏾♂️ gotta hit the gym for a week and try to remove it 😅
same😂

My right pedal always unscrew by itself while riding. I try to tighten this at home even with torque spanner. How do I get rid of it? 😢
Threadlocker?
Very helpful
Cheers guy's for how to change a pedal useful 👍👍💯
Left hand pedals have a groove on the spindle... amazing how few people know this... even pro's.

Is this video shadow banned? I can't see it in my sub box, just saw it cause I had the bell activated. Its also visible over your chanel
Thanks
There are also magnetic pedals..(to me, the best pedals)..
Gotta love sensible blake ,like a dad sleep deprived 😴

I want Blake to make recordings for my GPS. "Turn Right Hyere"

Nice
I want to remove the stock pedals. They are so tight that i was kicking them. No resault yet.
I can get severe brain fog at random moments, so I have a set of pedals that live either side of my bike at home so I've always got a quick reference.
Mind broke off and idk what to do
Up next: How to tie your shoe laces
Could you guys minimize the music please?
Some pedals have D and G (droit=right, gauche=left)
Next time i would suggest to be farther away with your camera while removing the pedal because i could still see a glimpse of what you were doing
Does anyone else get the feeling that GMBN is running out of topics to cover?
They just like making us wait for Van Build episodes
Van build? Put people out their misery and say something 😂
Sorry!😅 We have an update coming very soon! 👀
Seriously, One bolt. Can't be that hard for folk, Can it??
If you need a video for this just buy a carrera
Yoooooo

Fuck pedals. Where the van build!?!?
Update pending... Stay tuned! 😉
Lots of excessive words and info. Useless video. Be better straight to the point.
