- Inspired by Pask Makes's video on the knapp joint, I made some templates to make knapp joints on the pantorouter, and built a box.

When I saw Neil's (PaskMakes) video, one of my first thoughts was the pantorouter. I'm glad you tried it!
Thank you for giving credit to Pask for the inspiration.
Once again proving your dominance as the SUPREME MASTER of the Panta-Router.
What sets you apart Mathias is the you are not just a craftsman, but an inventor. Thanks for the videos.
That’s a beautiful looking joint.
We still talking woodworking here?
Pask is another favorite. Great channel.
Glad to see you have some time to do some woodworking and make a few videos again. Thanks for everything and Happy Holidays.
No matter how good I get at woodworking, Mathias always makes me feel like a rank amateur with all of his jigs, handmade machines and gadgets.
He's like the Canadian Batman.. :)
I clicked on your video hoping to see your work on the original wooden machine that you are so proud of.
I think a pantorouter would make your tree work much easier.
You've done it again! That pantorouter is handy. Wish I was fifty years younger. So much to diy!
I hope this is a renewal of the regular Friday project videos - they were the highlight of my week for years.
Merry Christmas Matthias to you and your family
I've seen the video pask did on Knapp joints, not going to lie I think it's awesome when one maker watches another and has no issue admitting it. I'm wanting to try my hand at Knapp joints but planning on using hand tools.
Fantastic Matthias! You and Neil Pask always have something really worth watching. Thanks!
I have never seen a joint like that before, lovely looking box, you do good work Matthias.
It is so satisfying to see the Panto router in action. Great video!
Very cool looking joint Matthias. I also watch Pask & did see the video where he made that joint as well. He does great work!
That looks like a ridiculously strong joint! Glad to have you back, man. Missed your videos!
Good to see you with the pantorouter in action again
What an amazing tool the pantorouter is.
I love it, all my woodworking subscriptions are watching each other.
Amazing tool and great craftsmanship. Wonderful to see.
I watch every video you upload. Thanks again!
WOW! Just awesome! Amazing to watch your mind work through this process.
Came after the Pask Makes video. Nice work!
Haha, I literally had to go to Neil's channel just to make sure the thumbnail was different
Fantastic as always Matthias
Pretty freaking cool! I need to rewatch pask makes' video, but that's a cool way to do it with the pantorouter. ✌️
This is a truly beautiful joint. I’m surprised you feel it’s not a strong joint. Awesome work!
It may not be as strong as a dovetail which is difficult to pull apart and more so with adhesive (glue). The knapp was more of mass-production with visual appeal but the pins of its joint don't interlock like those of dovetail joints. I think its still strong, but there might be a reason we see more durable dovetail pieces than knapp.
You're the best and I guess using the router with that smoothness..I mean it's an art.. best wishes to you and keep sharing more such stuff.
I have to say that could be a nice decorative joint when using two different woods. I like!
Very skilled gentleman, I must say.
Nice to hear about offering the template for sale. there is a work shoe company in America Knapp and they pronounce it with no k sound (Napp).
Yeah. I always thought the K was silent.
You are truly the MacGyver of woodworking!
I really enjoy your videos and work!
Thanks
I had watched the Pat's video a while ago, and it looked to be above and beyond reason.
Great video on the use of the Pantorouter, Matthias. I love Isojoints. It is some much fun to design and test them.
Bravo Mattia!
I watch a metric shitton of woodworking on YT, no idea how I never found this guy. It's like he has the cheat codes to all of woodworking. Just made me painfully aware I need to really do an engineering deep dive
Those handles on my drill press used to fall off a lot too, which really annoyed me, but a little bit of threadlock fixed that.
Teflon tape for a less permanent option too.
@@InfinitExpanse You can get threadlocker in non-permanent, hand loosen flavors.
Mine eventually rusted in place in my damp shed. 😂
Nicely done. Now someone buy that man a comb.
That is some excellent wood work
Grande Matthi !!!!!! Eres un MAESTRO
Back in the early 90s there was a company that made plastic templates to cut this joint.
Great and amazing video, just like all the others; now to wait for The Pantorouter Company to make the templates 👍🏼👍🏼
Great work on the knapp joints Matthias! Thanks for sharing the video with us' and Merry Christmas! 🎄🎁👌👍😎JP
Make your second template first, then use it to make the other half to get the pins in the right place. Maybe the joint won't be so tight, and you can do dry fitting. Loved the video, it's so inspiring.
nice to see the pantarouter ,in a build,
Great idea!!
I've never seen how to make such a joint !
Máster eres todo un artesano, saludos de Cancún Quintana Roo México 😎
Matthias Wandel has hecho un trabajo muy bonito y nuevo en su estilo, felicidades
Wonderful work !!! Greetings from Germany - The Raven
That is absolutely fantastic!
That's a really good looking joint. Looks a lot stronger then it likely is. Great for decorative boxes.
I may be wrong, but, I think the K in Knapp is silent. Kinda like the k in knife or knowledge.
Love Pask Makes!
Bravo, Matthias. Bravo. 👏👏
I can see the Pantorouter being used to make all sorts of unique joints, similar to the Leigh Isoloc templates. Would be fun to make a piece of furniture with different joints on every drawer - if I had a Pantorouter of course!
Drill press handle: Let me do it, let me do it.
Matthias: I've got it.
Drill press handle: Fine! I'm outta here!.
that final product was very nice
1.5 million subscribers...you're getting there. Keep at it
Beautiful! Wonderful work.
Great set up you have and very nice work looks great
Hey! You should make more mice maze videos, except, you should try to create repeating patterns in the maze. This may confuse the mice and it will be interesting to see how it reacts to seeing the same thing multiple times. Also, you should make it where the maze changes at the same time the mice is inside!
Looks much nicer than dovetails.
Matthias, I may be mistaken, but I think I recall reading that Knapp joints are intended to be no-glue/no-fastener type joints. So that extremely tight dry fit is exactly what you want.
I don't think it would be no glue. Cause it would pop apart eventually without glue.
@@matthiaswandel Good point. As I said, I may have misremembered it.
I think he is Einstein of woodworking...
I don't NEED one but that doesn't mean I don't want one. Great Video.
Great video. You should bring back your strength test apparatus and see how strong knapp joints are relatively speaking.
Pask: lets make a knapp joint jig. Matthias: Hold my router
Have you seen the square version? It looks really good.
Very interesting and cool milling machine! I'm from Russia and i've never seen this device on russian joiner's UA-cam!
Człowiek z pasją. Piękne rzeczy robisz. Pozdrawiam:)
Yes pask makes
Wow what a cool joint
That's cool as
Very nice set up there Matthias. Thanks eh... Ü
I enjoy your videos very much!!
And he was inspired I’m sure by miroc, not sure of the spelling of his name but he uses a CNC to do a bunch of really cool joints.
Mirock's Toolworks
This video is about Matthias making some epic joints and also about doing epic joints where classic joints are too boring :D
Btw: very nice work sir! :)
Dear Matthias: have you tried using washers and bolts? Sticking them on 2 boards while engaged, then separate them as templates for mortises and Tennents . I think, its much easier and more accurate.
More great content. Thank you. Seems like your having fun!
This is awesome
Superb beautiful box joints keep it up bro 😘😘😘
You are the king Mathias :-)
Super nice one
Matt you make everything look so hard
Do I see a handcut dovetail vs. routed dovetail vs. knapp joint strength test on the way?
Ooohh yes please!
Yes please!
as a german carpenter named Matthias, i approve!
It's kind of pointless, they're all strong enough
vs. sawn box joint
Que makina increíble como trabaja
If you put a stop block on your sacrificial block it will register center every time providing the stock is the same width
3:27 beautiful joint
Super Video
Dankeschön fürs Zeigen
I know what you mean about the glue being redundant. The last dovetail box I made, it was so tight I didn't even bother gluing it, because it was just a box to hold small items inside a drawer.
gracias Mathias
i watched the pask makes video, and a few others, I was thinking almost the exact same thing...that would be so much easier on the pantorouter...
That sure seemed a lot easier than when I watched Pask make it. Looks a bit nicer, too. You've got me wondering, though, why it isn't very strong. Seems like it would be.
I'd imagine that the holes in the knuckle-shaped piece might be vulnerable to blowing out (i.e. pressure from the dowel-shaped bits could pop out the parallel grain).
Perfeito, mestre da marcenaria 👏👏👏👏
I thought about trying to cut these on a cnc, getting a board mounted vertical isn't so easy with a vacuum table though. Vectric sure charges a pretty penny for their 9101 dovetail bit....
Turned out great!
i seen the other but yours is much easy and fast,,,,,very good.
Gorgeous
Hi
It would be nice to see the measurements on the template drawings and also the size of the router bit and follower used.
( An explanation on how to derive the correct size for the router bit / follower would be nice - I seem to have forgotten this every time I use my Pantorouter ! )
For the 3d printer discussion - see Marius Hornberger's video on the topic. - For me the 3d printer(s) are one of the most useful tools in the shop!
