When I was a kid, my dad and I were in chest deep water (to me) jumping waves at South Padre Island when I was hammered in the gut by something very solid. Knocked the wind out of me and pushed me back in the water a couple of feet. We looked down and watched a bull shark just under the surface - much bigger than me - slowly back up, turn and disappear in a swirl of water. No teeth, just a bruised stomach and major road rash. Very lucky. Long time before I ventured back into the surf.

Wow! 😲 I don't blame you for taking a while to go back in!
Something "rubbery" & firm bumped my leg on Tybee Island in about 2 ft of water and I flew for the shore (as an adult) 😅 I knew rationally it wasn't a shark b/c it had smooth skin but freaked out anyway. Probably a ray 😂

Territorial attack as 90% are, no mistaken identity or any hippy crap.
They 100% mean to hurt you, just your luck if its hungry beaches should be a 2 mile kos area
,even better if they could invent a non lethal alternative.
The knife with the 600psi air short looks perfect if shark seen first.

Hey last night the RN I worked with told me she was bit by a shark here in Florida in shallow water when she was younger and had to get 18 stitched. I was saying how its not safe to go in any Florida water and that's when she told me some of her story . Then I showed her your channel .❤❤❤

Glad to see you back Hal. Our livingroom is 16.5 feet long ×15.4 feet wide and I can't emagin being in the ocean where there's predators that big !!! It blows my mind that anyone would want to take a risk of being attacked by one of those monster sharks. I will never get the video of the young man in Egypt who was consumed by a tiger shark ! And the horrible brutal killing of that pregnant shark they did to her afterwards made me sick. This intire situation was horrible !! Poor young man screaming for his papa to help him. Heartbreaking for him and the poor shark. She must have really been hungry to do what she did. But people don't get that the ocean is their home, not our playground.

I've only seen 1 attack at bondi beach I've seen 1 5 meter GW and an 8 footer but mostly are sand tigers and hammer heads and the occasional bronze whaler that's what bit the only attack I've seen mans hand of go to Sydney Harbour you'd get attacked by bull sharks as its full of them there , but bondi beach is relatively safe as the nets seem to work at this beach ....

    • @user-my8kj7yw9p
      @user-my8kj7yw9p Місяць тому +2

Bondi beach is relatively safe the only attack was by a bronze whaler that took a surfers hand I've seen a 5mtr GW and a 8ftr but it's mostly got sand tigers and hammerheads so not to dangerous and a guy swam over the 8ft GW and the GW sorta swam behind him for 20 seconds but got distracted by a school of salmon and the drone flyers had to tell the guy that a GW was under him and a large baitball of salmon but if it was the 5mter it would have been a different story , the guy who got his hand bit of by bronze whaler was the day after the Australian sas man had his leg and arm bit of in Sydney Harbour and the bondi life guards was blamed for it as the helicopter police said they told them a bullshark was in the water and it was rubbish as no shark was sighted that day so bondi bay is a safe place to swim

I was at Clearwater beach @ a decade ago with my BFF & her 3 year-old daughter. The kid was FEARLESS, & loved going into the ocean; running into the water every time I turned around. And heading into water over her head.
So, I took her out into water about hip deep to me (I'm 5'7"); holding her & bouncing around... but not too far out because we were FLA natives & know about Bulls!
Like most Fla beaches, the slope of the ocean bed is very shallow, so you have to go WAY out to even get to 5 feet deep.
I'm looking out at the non-native, vacationers who WERE way, way out there... thinking they were idiots; and I felt something rub against the back of my leg. I caught a big shadow swim quickly sway! Definitely not one of the small fish that come closer to shore; and not a jellyfish. I've had those experiences before. Lol
So... I take off for shore like a shot, carrying a screaming toddler who doesn't wanna leave the water.
As I hit the shoreline, I hear people yelling out, "Look!! There's a dolphin!!"
I'd never seen one come so close to shore, especially with that many people in the water. Everybody grabbed their phones to try to take some pictures of the dolphins, while I was standing on shore having an anxiety attack. Yep! That was enough & we drove back home to Tampa. 😁

What's also really interesting is that Nov. 11, 1979 Kenny Doudt was attacked at Cannon Beach Oregon, he was also bit on the torso area, except Kenny was on a board. So the shark only got his back, did major damage though. Anyway point being Both bit on torso, both survived. Rodney's shark was estimated at 9 to 10 feet. Kenny's was estimated at 15 feet. It's interesting to compare similarities.

I saw something very interesting a few years ago in the San Blas Islands. On our launch ride from Aubuja Island, back to the mainland called COMARCA DE KUNA YALA, we noticed some conversation taking place in the middle of the ocean. Some 5 or 6 locals were in a circle laughing and joking in their own language, just treading water. They live on those islands and swim back and forth to other islands.
I wondered why they weren't afraid of sharks in this tropical shark infested Caribbean part of Panama.
I can only make various guesses. I think those sharks have plenty to eat in those waters, or the sharks are familiar with these fishermen, seaman. OR I've read that they wear a hot pepper as a necklace, and the acid of the pepper disturbs the sharks' senses. Have you ever checked into that? San Blas Indians and sharks.

I love your show, but being a surfer it’s a bit of a curse. Lately when I’m in the water I hear you in the back of my mind. So…..two weeks ago in Cabo I’m having the session of my life. Overhead waves, glassy, perfect and nobody out but me. As I was waiting for the next set, I see a huge shape 30 yds away just below the surface as a wave crested up and I did a double take. As the next wave crested up it’s unmistakable, a 10-12 foot Tiger Shark is right there, I can clearly see the markings on its side in the crystal clear water. I calmly paddled into the wave that thank god came in right then. I’m dumb enough to jump up and surf instead of just belly riding in. As I rode down the line I kept looking behind the wave, expecting to see the shark. Once on the beach I went to high ground and watched the shark patrol the lineup for 30 minutes, back and forth right where I had been surfing. I saw a guy on the beach and he said his friend had seen a shark there that same morning. Shaken up, I drove to another spot for the rest of the day where another friend told me his buddy had seen a big Tiger in that same area last year. Woke up the next morning, the waves were pumping and there was a few other surfers out at the spot. I joined them, didn’t see the shark again for the rest of the trip.

My guess is that we don't enter into the ocean often. How are those odds swimming every night 100 yards out? I don't buy that "better chances getting hit by lightning" saying.

Im sure theres a recordnof the shark species. Maybe the guys over at the Bondi Beach channel can look into it.

That one attack reminds me of an attack they just went over in google, how a woman was taken and eaten whole near her friends in the water, they never knew she was gone until they were in the showers.

Poor shark probably needed his help and they misunderstood the aggression of the shark!

Bull sharks are pretty aggressive and i for one would not want to be bit by a large bull shark, great white, or tiger shark.

My name is Bob. I was attacked by a great white who was 12 to 15 feet. I have no legs left and arm gone as well. 1 leg above the knee and 1 below. 1 arm gone under my shoulder so don't go into the water in Australia. It is no fun. Im in my 50s now and it's been over 20 years now. Im ready to go.
