It's not the real Nintendo fans that complain, those are just pathetic people that wants to sully Nintendo's name. The real fans are the ones buying the games and the sales figures speaks for themselves.
They probably are charging a little much for the Mario remasters, especially considering the Metroid Prime remake was amazing and only costs $40…that being said, I absolutely love the Luigi’s Mansion series, I was so excited when Dark Moon first came out, and I was shocked when they announced they were bringing it to Switch. They probably could have put a little more effort into it, but I couldn’t not buy it, I love the game, and I love getting to experience it again all these years later in HD! It’s a pretty dang good remake in my opinion!

Honestly if Nintendo ever does rerelease twilight princess I might buy that because I haven’t played it in a long time and I would like to again. I own the older version of most of the other remakes though and the old versions work just fine for me.

Yeah and it even has the best graphics of the series. Luigi's Mansion 2 doesn't even get anywhere near LM3's visuals or animation. 30 bucks sounds about right for what it is.
Thousand Year Door was one thing. Buying that game second hand was $100 and they at least updated the graphics with a few minor changes. DK Returns still looks like a Wii game. Just upscaled.
@knuclear200x A GameCube emulator with a texture pack can't recreate the visuals of the TTYD remake because guess what? The Switch is way more powerful than the GameCube. Also, texture packs don't include the new soundtrack, new sound effects, the pipe room (which means Chapter 7 is super annoying), or the two superbosses exclusive to the remake.
Highly disagree with Mario RPG having "little" changes. Game was heavily overhauled with the gameplay with the action command timing, new chain mechanic, a team attack move, and how enemies don't freeze when casting spells. Just an easier, faster experience than the original ever could. Not to mention how the remake added more post-game content than even TTYD remake.

I know it's not Nintendo, but HAL absolutely knocked it out of the park with their remaster of Kirby's Return to Dream Land. It has a significant graphical upgrade and a unique cel shaded art style. It adds two brand new abilities which both have complex move sets (and they both have their own new challenge stages for both normal and extra mode). It adds a new post-game mode featuring a new playable character with upgradable skills, new levels, and new bosses. It adds another new mode full of minigames from various older Kirby games and an extensive list of missions to complete. It adds a bunch of masks based on characters from all throughout the franchise's history (most of them even have sound effects from the character they represent). It has a much, MUCH harder version of the True Arena with a sinister surprise at the end. That's only the significant stuff that was added. There's quite a bit I didn't mention. THIS is how you make a remaster.
I personally feel like the main difference is that Metroid was never a great seller in Nintendo's eyes. Like, apparently in Japan it's like one of the biggest bomb franchises. Maybe that's changed after read don't know. But yeah: Mario, Zelda, DK, all huge names, all huge IPs in their eyes, that's gotta be the biggest reason these prices are so high. I'd say the only "hope" here is for the lesser franchises getting remakes, and that hopefully they stay cheaper aka fairer.
There’s also the middle class audience that isn’t bothered by $60. Video games have been affected by inflation a lot less than most other products so the whining about a 20% price increase is completely misplaced.
It doesn't only thing that works isn't buying it and just emulating the wii version in hd on dolphin. If you have a pc or steam deck there's no reason to buy any of these you can already just dump your old games and emulate them in hd.

Go download some program that you don't know, follow several tutorials to adjust everything, get a Pirated copy from god knows what site, and you're good to go as long as you're willing to open the game through the emulator each time you want to play it. @@cosmicsvids - I did it, I got it running and proceeded to never do it again. I even got the freaking bios file from my Wii just to make it run a little bit better. Look man, sorting out .iso files and settings isn't exactly what I want to do before my gameplay sessions, especially I can just pick up my Switch and get right in.
If they bundle both games together I will be ok for 60 bucks (that would be 30 each) but knowing nintendo they will sell them separately. Mario all stars was at least 3 games bundled together.

I'm lowkey just kinda disappointed we haven't seen anything new related to the Donkey Kong IP in like a decade. Them releasing ANOTHER port just feels like a kick in the face. I'm just hoping people who've never played this great game will pick it up for the first time, which might encourage Nintendo to make a new one. I'd perhaps be down for a full remake of the original trilogy, but even then I'd probably stick to the originals.

I would absolutely love a remake of the original SNES trilogy. I only played the first game, but it’s held up really well. They’d probably have to lower the difficulty curve a little bit, maybe make it easier to save, but that’s about it.
Look, I love Nintendo, but sometimes they can make some pretty confusing decisions. And charging $60 for an HD remaster that, while pretty good visually, doesn't really add much to justify it being $60 when the original was $40 is one of them.
To anyone here watching this and realizing that Nintendo is super inconsistent with how much they charge for their games: before the latest Wario game came out, Nintendo polled their fans and asked them what is the price they would pay for that game (a new one in the series). People said $40 and guess how much Nintendo charged for it, $40. Moral of the story is, vote with your wallet, don’t buy it if you don’t like the price
Plus, to get their original copies pre-owned for BOTH GAMES was extremely expensive. Gamexplain has no idea what their talking about in this case. Telling people not to buy games hurts the company, which in return means less budget for high quality titles and then eventually we keep getting the low effort, low budget remakes we don’t want anyway.
One thing I think people aren't thinking about is that this game is being ported by Forever Entertainment. Nintendo hardly have to do anything and they need a DK game out on Switch. Nintendo chooses the price to be $60 to help pay Forever Entertainment's bill. Missing effects? They still have until January, it's going to be okay. It's kind of funny they're so proud to be making or porting this game to Switch (it's their biggest project to date) I say give them a chance. Worse case we get a mid port of DKC: Returns with 3DS levels. You know who else was studio like this at first? Grezzo who is now heading a new Zelda game AND Tantalus the guys that did TPHD for Wii U, Skyward Sword HD for Switch AND Luigi's Mansion 2 HD.
Okay so like... this whole "they still have until ___ to fix this" Has that EVER been a thing? Like at least with these kinds of games especially recently, have we ever really had a "Oh they showed us bad footage" and then later "oh game is much better now." Like my thought immediately goes to the TTYD Remake, that was announced in September of last year, people complained about FPS and some visuals, game came out 8 months later in May, no changes, the same as it was shown. January is between 6-7 months away. And again, has any game that looked like a certain way that far away been "fixd before release? I'm not even saying it's impossible, I'm just wondering has that been done to actually hope for that?
My answer: They're a corporation. Have we not told people in the past no corporation is a friend? Additionally, they're not really ripping you off if you don't buy it. You, as a customer, can decide if you want to purchase this product. If it doesn't look satisfactory in value to you, then just don't buy it. I personally don't think this is a good remaster, but I know this is great for those who never got to play the original. (We're slowly entering a point where kids never heard of a 3DS. I feel old whenever I talk to a kid playing a Switch about the 3DS only to hear them say "what's that?")
They're charging what they feel their product is worth. They have the right to do that. And we have the right to determine if it's worth it to us to buy it or don't buy it. Sometimes it is to me, sometimes it's not. Depends on the game. Either way, nobody is getting ripped off lol

Skyward sword fixed a low tho. People love underselling how much the switch version fixed. $60 is definitely too much for it but it’s not “minimal upgrades”
The annoying part is the inconsistency (obviously the greed is bad too). Why is Luigi’s mansion 2 HD full price when Miitopia was only $40? Why is Metroid Prime remastered $40 but Skyward Sword was $60? Is Nintendo now imposing some kind of Mario and Zelda tax?
The only thing I worry about is how Nintendo might handle their profits going down come their next console Their profit margins are so mindblowingly insane right now compared to other companies like Sony. Will they keep in mind the boost of pandemic and the hard work of the Wii U that boosted the Switch to be as successful as it is? I truly believe they need to get rid of paid online, and offer paid -not just renting legacy content. Steam has unexaggerated x100 better online while being completely free forever. I don't know how we normalized paying an additional subscription for our own router in p2p games and backups (a legally protected right the US, which is somewhat squashed by the Switch in search of profits.)
Same, I bought the original for $15 a year ago & I still have the 3DS version to. Course it’s cool for people who never played the game yet or just love having certain games on the Switch.

But at the same time when, scummy companies came make sports games the exact same make 100s of millions every year and get away with loot boxes, I can give Nintendo a pass on wanting to up-charge and I can give them a pass on doing the bare minimum to save money. Note, the bare minimum for Nintendo is always triple A quality. It works and looks good.
If Activision can sell the Spyro and Crash Trilogy for 40/45 bucks, there Is no excuse for Nintendo to charge this much for one remaster. And if Activision Blizzard is setting the bar, man... Nintendo should rethink about this at least twice.
Devil's advocate, strongly feels like Activision only charged those amounts because they literally didn't not care about those franchises and saw them as lesser, meaning those games are more comparable to the Nintendo & Metroid Prime Remastered treatment. But yeah those games I played earlier too, and basically blew me away with how much was in them... and then Actiivison shut down that company so really feels like they just didn't care and maybe did a lower price just to get something out of it.
It's simple, Crash and Spyro aren't as popular as Mario and these being dead franchises (in 2017) could not afford to sell you 3 ports for $60, Mario on the other hand he can.

It kinda does make sense. DK is a much popular IP. Doesn’t need a whole lot to sell DK games. Metroid is much more niche. They need all the help they can get. Especially a saucy price point. This game will sell more than Metroid. These boycotts only accounts for the 5%.
It’s cool that people can play it on the Switch, but the only reason I won’t get it anytime soon is cause I still have the 3DS version & I bought the original one for only around $15 a year ago.

That’s a big point why I’m in favor of these remasters, they are primarily aimed at people who never played the original. All these complaints seem to be coming from those who bought and played the game before.
Why are people so surprised? You guys didn't think nintendo would put out a DK game at full price like mostly every other first party release? It's gonna sell well regardless, so of course they will do it. Is it morally right? No, not really, so vote with your wallet. If you don't like it, don't buy it. Simple.
But voting with our wallet isn’t gonna tell Nintendo much because for every one who doesn’t buy this game, because we know the history of what this game sold for previously for same amount of content and can see there’s not much graphically to justify its price, there’ll be several more who do buy this, forever skewing the numbers to Nintendo’s favor and effectively rendering our voices mute because all Nintendo will see is profit from the new players they have taken advantage of. And those numbers will justify to them they can keep on with these scuzzy practices, and not have to rationalize anything to previous version owners.

I've said this in many comment sections of videos, but this is just one of the many reasons for my love/hate relationship with Nintendo. There are remakes/remasters like Luigi's Mansion 2 HD and Donkey Kong Country Returns HD that put in very minimal effort as "remasters". Heck, even NSMB U Deluxe had at least some new things in addition to having everything from the Wii U version. But then you also have Metroid Prime Remastered's reasonable price for a beautiful visual upgrade and Kirby's Return To Dreamland Deluxe with a lot of new extra features or at least some big new features. But Nintendo has been doing this for years, because they know they can get away with it most of the time. But in all fairness, fans beg for a lot of these and it might be confusing to them if fans don't want it. So fans just need to be clear and say "we really want this, we just don't want to pay this price unless you do enough with it to justify a full price".
Metroid prime remaster had a lot more work put in than DK returns HD and that game was 40 bucks. Its a night and day difference compare to original while DK returns is just in HD now. And both games are from retro studios too! Also prime remaster was shadow dropped the day it was announced while DK returns come out next year? Like how much work they have to put it in when its still almost 6 months away? Its literally just upscaled resolution and some improved textures here and there. That still requirers 6 months of development? lol.
I do understand that Nintendo is definitely charging too much for some games, but the way I see game prices, it's like this: There are a *ton* of games on the market. Way more than you can ever play, even ignoring all new games. If I don't like the price Nintendo is offering or don't think the game is good enough, i'll play another game. A transaction is something 2 parties agree upon, and i'm not gonna sit here and yell at Nintendo and then buy the game anyways. If I really hate the price i'll just move over to Steam or Gamepass or something that works better for me. Sure the price may be annoying, but you still have the ability to refuse the transaction and use your money on whatever else. Nintendo isn't obligated to make games cheaper, just like you can't walk into a jewelry store and start getting mad that the earrings you want are too expensive. You don't have the *right* to a luxury good that people spend years creating. Nintendo is fully within their rights to make stuff the price they want. And as a company, they don't *need* to discount their product just because time has passed. Idk, for me it's just that people act like Nintendo charging a bunch for a remake of an older game is the end of the world, but if I spent 3 years with dozens of devs working on a project, I would want to be able to charge what I think the game is worth based on what I feel the game is worth, not just cut it purely because of when it was initially released. I don't mind paying 40-60$ if the game they are rereleasing is good, and if I *dont* like the price I can always just buy the original, wait for it used because the secondhand prices often better reflect that quality difference, or play something else. For example, in this case *just buy the wii or 3ds version of the game secondhand right now*. Does it suck that this version is so expensive? Yes. Am I surprised? No! That goes with many Nintendo rereleases. They company charges what they think they will make the most money with. I don't like it, but I have the free will to say "hey maybe I can use my money elsewhere". I might leave a miffed comment somewhere but i'm not gonna protest or whatever, i'm just not gonna pay it. It's the same as when I go to a theme park and decide not to pay 18$ for a branded T-shirt. It doesn't need to be a big deal every time they announce a new remaster/remake and people get all surprised
Not the point of the video, but “Remaster” applies to pretty much any game that gets updated whatsoever, even if it’s minor. That includes 3D All Stars all the way up to Prime Remastered (which is not a remake, despite how many people think).

Just saying, thats totally on you for having such high expectations for Mario 3D All Stars, buying into rumors is an easy road to disappointment. Especially expectating full big remasters for 3D Mario games bundled together for $60. Other IPs maybe, but Mario??
In short No nobody is being ripped off since there is no lies in what your buying in the end its on you if you think a product is the value they asking. In long i do think LM2HD and DKCRHD are the 2 once that truely dont fit there price tag. there simply isnt enough done to justifiy there full price like most said 40 would still be above the industry norm but would make sense for these. Stuff like the actual remakes of SMRPG TTYD and even links awakening are remakes completly recreated from teh ground up often with new content they defnitly worth there price tag. Skyward sword HD is a weird 1 to me. Becasue i can totaly see the argument and what its actualy offers is comparable to LM2HD and DKC but at least for SS you could explain it by the fact they had to essentialy compelty redo the control scheme for it. Both the new motioneless control scheme and the original controls having to be adjusted to the joycons at least that seems like quite a bit of work. So that 1 is defnitly a edge case where i personaly dont think full price is too far but on a surface level it probably should have been cheaper maybe a 50 middle ground on it or something. I bought a Wii a month ago. The system itself cost £55 and a copy of DK Country Returns only cost £12.... So yeah, ain't now way I'm picking up a £60 copy of the exact same game.
I have no problem paying 60 for a game like Paper Mario Thousand Year Door because it is timeless and offers a lot of value. I put in over 50 hours in that game. But yes other games like DKC is way to much imo.
Another outlier is Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition, not only did they improve the look of the game graphically by giving it a brand new art style but they also improved a lot of aspects of gameplay and even added a brand new free DLC side story epilogue called Future Connected which I feel by adding that definitely justify the $60 price.
I really wish Wii U owners were offered a discounted upgrade for games ported on switch. Previously you were able to upgrade virtual console games from your Wii to the Wii U version at a discounted price

Joey, I think you’re missing the point of these remakes, they’re primarily aimed at the NEWER generation of players, and if the older generation isn’t satisfied with certain things, that’s THEIR problem.
@@benmalsky9834 But this is the problem that comes when Nintendo alienates the market like this and basically says, “this is aimed at the new players.” New players are NOT the only ones who reside in the fan base of a game franchise like this. So no, I don’t accept that argument, Nintendo should be thinking larger picture and go “okay, we are bringing in this port, so how do we get the max number of people playing it?” the answer is justify the full price tag to EVERYONE, and that happens by adding in new content which didn’t exist in the previous versions or do some serious effort upgrades which actually manages to render the previous versions unplayable by comparison. So it’s STILL Nintendo’s problem because they aren’t doing enough to actually justify the price tag to everyone in the fandom. All they are doing is peddling content and taking advantage of the new players because Nintendo is counting on the notion new players will have this exact mentality and accept paying 60 bucks for a title that was a Nintendo selects title and was worth only 20 for the same amount of content which is being advertised with this port.
In response to the people saying "You can easily just ignore it if you still have the original" or "This is only for people who haven't played the original," I suggest you watch advertising closely for this game when the time gets closer. When TTYD got closer, they really started pushing the game for veteran players, even posting a full article on the Switch News outright addressing everyone who played the original telling them to still play this version. So when we get closer, if you see anything like that from Nintendo, basically saying something like "Even if you played the Wii or 3DS, you gotta play this" then everyone really has to question how badly this game is targeting them.

But people do need to remember that the development of such ports do not come cheap, especially in today's gaming industry.
Age does not diminish value, and $60 ain't overpriced! Run the numbers through an inflation calculator, and you'll find that these remasters actually cost _less_ than the original! $50 in 2010 is $72 now! And as for Nintendo Selects, that was a limited time offer, get over it! Also; the classic versions of the remakes will arrive on NSO in about five years, and when Metroid Prime 2 & 3 Remastered is announced in September for $70 everyone will cry foul despite the $10 discount.
Here’s the thing, I don’t mind remakes like SMRPG or TTYD, as those were built from the ground up. But when it’s basically a port with little to no added features, that’s when I’m not interested.

most ports on switch have been this bad the whole time, but it’s good people are finally reacting to it. $60 for HD ports (with no new content) of 14-20 year old games is pure EA levels of greed. and because it’s nintendo too, these overpriced ports never decrease in value/ have significant sales other than the twice a year 30% sales on random games.
At least Tropical Freeze was not that old when it was rereleased for the Switch, the Wii U failed, meaning that for millions of people, the Switch version of Tropical Freeze is the original version, and that game is just awesome, deserving the full price. Returns is good, but not as good as Tropical Freeze, the game is much older, and the Wii sold 100 million, there's also the 3DS version.
They do it because they know the fanboys pay for it. The reason Metroid Prime Remastered was only 40$ is because they know people aren't familiar enough with the franchise to purchase it off name alone. But with DK and Luigi / Mario, people will pay for it. Just stop buying their BS and start emulating. I played Donkey Kong Country Returns last year on the Dolphin emulator at 4K 60fps for free.
This is the Catch 22 of consumer/pop culture. Fans are punished for contributing to the popularity of the thing they helped make popular. They gonna milk you because they can.

It would be nice to get a discount on Switch (2) versions of Returns and Tropical Freeze when you already bought them on Wii and Wii U, because I'll surely never play them again if I have to play them on those old systems or pay $60 for each.
Skyward Sword HD is 60 fps with the same graphics: huge upgrade! Thousand Year Door completely redoes its visuals: it’s only 30 fps! To each their own, but I feel like frame rate obsession has really gotten out of hand. I agree with overall argument of the video though
There's also Link's Awakening, which is honestly on par with the Super Mario RPG remake. Don't get me wrong, Link's Awakening to this day remains one of the best titles in the series, BUT... it is still just a Gameboy game when you get down to it. You can blaze through it in a single sitting. It's a very short title, but it is still charged $60, the same for Breath of the Wild, which has hundreds of hours of content. We've had other studios, like Toys for Bob, remake the Crash and Spyro trilogies and sell those for $40 USD. I'd take Mario RPG, Thousand Year Door, Mario Vs. Donkey Kong, and Link's Awakening all for $40 each. Not as good a value as the Crash and Spyro trilogies, but hey, not bad, either. This is in the end still a downside with Nintendo. They're making money hand over fist here with these games, the Switch is amazingly profitable, yet they don't even bother giving Splatoon 2 a price drop, despite Splatoon 3 having been out for a couple years now. It's a flaw I would still prefer over some of the business practices that goes on over at some other big studios, but that doesn't mean I have to be happy about it. Nintendo is still going to be making crazy money, but they just want to make as much as they can possibly squeeze out of us.

They probably are charging a little much for the Mario remasters, especially considering the Metroid Prime remake was amazing and only costs $40…that being said, I absolutely love the Luigi’s Mansion series, I was so excited when Dark Moon first came out, and I was shocked when they announced they were bringing it to Switch. They probably could have put a little more effort into it, but I couldn’t not buy it, I love the game, and I love getting to experience it again all these years later in HD! It’s a pretty dang good remake in my opinion!

Thousand Year Door was one thing. Buying that game second hand was $100 and they at least updated the graphics with a few minor changes. DK Returns still looks like a Wii game. Just upscaled.
But DCKR will still be a great game.

@knuclear200x A GameCube emulator with a texture pack can't recreate the visuals of the TTYD remake because guess what? The Switch is way more powerful than the GameCube. Also, texture packs don't include the new soundtrack, new sound effects, the pipe room (which means Chapter 7 is super annoying), or the two superbosses exclusive to the remake.
Highly disagree with Mario RPG having "little" changes. Game was heavily overhauled with the gameplay with the action command timing, new chain mechanic, a team attack move, and how enemies don't freeze when casting spells. Just an easier, faster experience than the original ever could. Not to mention how the remake added more post-game content than even TTYD remake.
And the visuals were beautifully remade from the ground up. Not just adding "some 3D graphics" lol.

I know it's not Nintendo, but HAL absolutely knocked it out of the park with their remaster of Kirby's Return to Dream Land.
It has a significant graphical upgrade and a unique cel shaded art style.
It adds two brand new abilities which both have complex move sets (and they both have their own new challenge stages for both normal and extra mode).
It adds a new post-game mode featuring a new playable character with upgradable skills, new levels, and new bosses.
It adds another new mode full of minigames from various older Kirby games and an extensive list of missions to complete.
It adds a bunch of masks based on characters from all throughout the franchise's history (most of them even have sound effects from the character they represent).
It has a much, MUCH harder version of the True Arena with a sinister surprise at the end.
That's only the significant stuff that was added. There's quite a bit I didn't mention. THIS is how you make a remaster.

I personally feel like the main difference is that Metroid was never a great seller in Nintendo's eyes. Like, apparently in Japan it's like one of the biggest bomb franchises. Maybe that's changed after read don't know.
But yeah: Mario, Zelda, DK, all huge names, all huge IPs in their eyes, that's gotta be the biggest reason these prices are so high.
I'd say the only "hope" here is for the lesser franchises getting remakes, and that hopefully they stay cheaper aka fairer.

It doesn't only thing that works isn't buying it and just emulating the wii version in hd on dolphin. If you have a pc or steam deck there's no reason to buy any of these you can already just dump your old games and emulate them in hd.

I would absolutely love a remake of the original SNES trilogy. I only played the first game, but it’s held up really well. They’d probably have to lower the difficulty curve a little bit, maybe make it easier to save, but that’s about it.

To anyone here watching this and realizing that Nintendo is super inconsistent with how much they charge for their games: before the latest Wario game came out, Nintendo polled their fans and asked them what is the price they would pay for that game (a new one in the series). People said $40 and guess how much Nintendo charged for it, $40. Moral of the story is, vote with your wallet, don’t buy it if you don’t like the price
TTYD and Super Mario RPG being $60 isn't a problem because they're remakes. Also, they offer more than enough content to justify the $60 price.

One thing I think people aren't thinking about is that this game is being ported by Forever Entertainment. Nintendo hardly have to do anything and they need a DK game out on Switch. Nintendo chooses the price to be $60 to help pay Forever Entertainment's bill. Missing effects? They still have until January, it's going to be okay. It's kind of funny they're so proud to be making or porting this game to Switch (it's their biggest project to date) I say give them a chance. Worse case we get a mid port of DKC: Returns with 3DS levels.
You know who else was studio like this at first? Grezzo who is now heading a new Zelda game AND Tantalus the guys that did TPHD for Wii U, Skyward Sword HD for Switch AND Luigi's Mansion 2 HD.

Like my thought immediately goes to the TTYD Remake, that was announced in September of last year, people complained about FPS and some visuals, game came out 8 months later in May, no changes, the same as it was shown.

I personally don't think this is a good remaster, but I know this is great for those who never got to play the original. (We're slowly entering a point where kids never heard of a 3DS. I feel old whenever I talk to a kid playing a Switch about the 3DS only to hear them say "what's that?")

Ok you got a point. But at the same time when, scummy companies came make sports games the exact same make 100s of millions every year and get away with loot boxes, I can give Nintendo a pass on wanting to up-charge and I can give them a pass on doing the bare minimum to save money.

If Activision can sell the Spyro and Crash Trilogy for 40/45 bucks, there Is no excuse for Nintendo to charge this much for one remaster.

Sorry, the tactic you suggest just won't get the message across to Nintendo, unfortunately.
I've said this in many comment sections of videos, but this is just one of the many reasons for my love/hate relationship with Nintendo. There are remakes/remasters like Luigi's Mansion 2 HD and Donkey Kong Country Returns HD that put in very minimal effort as "remasters". Heck, even NSMB U Deluxe had at least some new things in addition to having everything from the Wii U version. But then you also have Metroid Prime Remastered's reasonable price for a beautiful visual upgrade and Kirby's Return To Dreamland Deluxe with a lot of new extra features or at least some big new features. But Nintendo has been doing this for years, because they know they can get away with it most of the time. But in all fairness, fans beg for a lot of these and it might be confusing to them if fans don't want it. So fans just need to be clear and say "we really want this, we just don't want to pay this price unless you do enough with it to justify a full price".
Metroid prime remaster had a lot more work put in than DK returns HD and that game was 40 bucks. Its a night and day difference compare to original while DK returns is just in HD now. And both games are from retro studios too! Also prime remaster was shadow dropped the day it was announced while DK returns come out next year? Like how much work they have to put it in when its still almost 6 months away? Its literally just upscaled resolution and some improved textures here and there. That still requirers 6 months of development? lol.
They are sitting on a finished product for DKCR to coincide with the theme park. As there’s not enough work done to justify the wait.
I do understand that Nintendo is definitely charging too much for some games, but the way I see game prices, it's like this:
There are a *ton* of games on the market. Way more than you can ever play, even ignoring all new games. If I don't like the price Nintendo is offering or don't think the game is good enough, i'll play another game.
A transaction is something 2 parties agree upon, and i'm not gonna sit here and yell at Nintendo and then buy the game anyways. If I really hate the price i'll just move over to Steam or Gamepass or something that works better for me. Sure the price may be annoying, but you still have the ability to refuse the transaction and use your money on whatever else.
Nintendo isn't obligated to make games cheaper, just like you can't walk into a jewelry store and start getting mad that the earrings you want are too expensive.
You don't have the *right* to a luxury good that people spend years creating. Nintendo is fully within their rights to make stuff the price they want. And as a company, they don't *need* to discount their product just because time has passed.
Idk, for me it's just that people act like Nintendo charging a bunch for a remake of an older game is the end of the world, but if I spent 3 years with dozens of devs working on a project, I would want to be able to charge what I think the game is worth based on what I feel the game is worth, not just cut it purely because of when it was initially released.
I don't mind paying 40-60$ if the game they are rereleasing is good, and if I *dont* like the price I can always just buy the original, wait for it used because the secondhand prices often better reflect that quality difference, or play something else.
For example, in this case *just buy the wii or 3ds version of the game secondhand right now*.
Does it suck that this version is so expensive? Yes. Am I surprised? No! That goes with many Nintendo rereleases. They company charges what they think they will make the most money with.
I don't like it, but I have the free will to say "hey maybe I can use my money elsewhere". I might leave a miffed comment somewhere but i'm not gonna protest or whatever, i'm just not gonna pay it. It's the same as when I go to a theme park and decide not to pay 18$ for a branded T-shirt. It doesn't need to be a big deal every time they announce a new remaster/remake and people get all surprised
Not the point of the video, but “Remaster” applies to pretty much any game that gets updated whatsoever, even if it’s minor. That includes 3D All Stars all the way up to Prime Remastered (which is not a remake, despite how many people think).

In short No nobody is being ripped off since there is no lies in what your buying in the end its on you if you think a product is the value they asking.
In long i do think LM2HD and DKCRHD are the 2 once that truely dont fit there price tag. there simply isnt enough done to justifiy there full price like most said 40 would still be above the industry norm but would make sense for these. Stuff like the actual remakes of SMRPG TTYD and even links awakening are remakes completly recreated from teh ground up often with new content they defnitly worth there price tag. Skyward sword HD is a weird 1 to me. Becasue i can totaly see the argument and what its actualy offers is comparable to LM2HD and DKC but at least for SS you could explain it by the fact they had to essentialy compelty redo the control scheme for it. Both the new motioneless control scheme and the original controls having to be adjusted to the joycons at least that seems like quite a bit of work. So that 1 is defnitly a edge case where i personaly dont think full price is too far but on a surface level it probably should have been cheaper maybe a 50 middle ground on it or something. And i cant blame people for thinking so either

I bought a Wii a month ago. The system itself cost £55 and a copy of DK Country Returns only cost £12.... So yeah, ain't now way I'm picking up a £60 copy of the exact same game.

I have no problem paying 60 for a game like Paper Mario Thousand Year Door because it is timeless and offers a lot of value. I put in over 50 hours in that game. But yes other games like DKC is way to much imo.

Another outlier is Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition, not only did they improve the look of the game graphically by giving it a brand new art style but they also improved a lot of aspects of gameplay and even added a brand new free DLC side story epilogue called Future Connected which I feel by adding that definitely justify the $60 price.

@@benmalsky9834 But this is the problem that comes when Nintendo alienates the market like this and basically says, “this is aimed at the new players.” New players are NOT the only ones who reside in the fan base of a game franchise like this. So no, I don’t accept that argument, Nintendo should be thinking larger picture and go “okay, we are bringing in this port, so how do we get the max number of people playing it?” the answer is justify the full price tag to EVERYONE, and that happens by adding in new content which didn’t exist in the previous versions or do some serious effort upgrades which actually manages to render the previous versions unplayable by comparison. So it’s STILL Nintendo’s problem because they aren’t doing enough to actually justify the price tag to everyone in the fandom. All they are doing is peddling content and taking advantage of the new players because Nintendo is counting on the notion new players will have this exact mentality and accept paying 60 bucks for a title that was a Nintendo selects title and was worth only 20 for the same amount of content which is being advertised with this port.
In response to the people saying "You can easily just ignore it if you still have the original" or "This is only for people who haven't played the original," I suggest you watch advertising closely for this game when the time gets closer. When TTYD got closer, they really started pushing the game for veteran players, even posting a full article on the Switch News outright addressing everyone who played the original telling them to still play this version.
So when we get closer, if you see anything like that from Nintendo, basically saying something like "Even if you played the Wii or 3DS, you gotta play this" then everyone really has to question how badly this game is targeting them.

One could argue that Nintendo is being greedy by making its consumers pay full price for remakes and/or remasters. But people do need to remember that the development of such ports do not come cheap, especially in today's gaming industry.
I suggest ignoring those videos and just play the games.
Age does not diminish value, and $60 ain't overpriced! Run the numbers through an inflation calculator, and you'll find that these remasters actually cost _less_ than the original! $50 in 2010 is $72 now! And as for Nintendo Selects, that was a limited time offer, get over it! Also; the classic versions of the remakes will arrive on NSO in about five years, and when Metroid Prime 2 & 3 Remastered is announced in September for $70 everyone will cry foul despite the $10 discount.

Here’s the thing, I don’t mind remakes like SMRPG or TTYD, as those were built from the ground up. But when it’s basically a port with little to no added features, that’s when I’m not interested.

$60 for HD ports (with no new content) of 14-20 year old games is pure EA levels of greed.

At least Tropical Freeze was not that old when it was rereleased for the Switch, the Wii U failed, meaning that for millions of people, the Switch version of Tropical Freeze is the original version, and that game is just awesome, deserving the full price.
Returns is good, but not as good as Tropical Freeze, the game is much older, and the Wii sold 100 million, there's also the 3DS version.
And there are no funky mode

They do it because they know the fanboys pay for it. The reason Metroid Prime Remastered was only 40$ is because they know people aren't familiar enough with the franchise to purchase it off name alone. But with DK and Luigi / Mario, people will pay for it.

There's also Link's Awakening, which is honestly on par with the Super Mario RPG remake. Don't get me wrong, Link's Awakening to this day remains one of the best titles in the series, BUT... it is still just a Gameboy game when you get down to it. You can blaze through it in a single sitting. It's a very short title, but it is still charged $60, the same for Breath of the Wild, which has hundreds of hours of content.
We've had other studios, like Toys for Bob, remake the Crash and Spyro trilogies and sell those for $40 USD. I'd take Mario RPG, Thousand Year Door, Mario Vs. Donkey Kong, and Link's Awakening all for $40 each. Not as good a value as the Crash and Spyro trilogies, but hey, not bad, either.
This is in the end still a downside with Nintendo. They're making money hand over fist here with these games, the Switch is amazingly profitable, yet they don't even bother giving Splatoon 2 a price drop, despite Splatoon 3 having been out for a couple years now. It's a flaw I would still prefer over some of the business practices that goes on over at some other big studios, but that doesn't mean I have to be happy about it. Nintendo is still going to be making crazy money, but they just want to make as much as they can possibly squeeze out of us.
Yep this really puts a bad taste in my mouth. I won't be buying donkey kong for that much. Especially when I've got so much value with gamepass right now.

I believe Nintendo has Retro Studios remaster Prime in order to get experience with the hardware and how the graphics would work, and that was the reason it was $40 because it was a by product of their research rather than a product first
