I also remember that you didn't actually alert any guards or anything, they'd just treat you like a new recruit and you'd go get suited up, go ask for the vertiberd plans, and leave back to San Francisco. I also remember the one dude in the Den that you could trade endlessly with to get infinite money. It was such a good time. Good to see you're showing this game some love. I recently started replaying this again with the Restoration Patch. I'm probably wrong, but iirc in the unpatched vanilla version of 2 once you get Tyler and most of his gang to go partying, they don't appear again since you and Lara's gang take out the skeleton crew and the Residential area doesn't exist. Also, here's a tip if you want to kill all the slavers in the Slaver's Guild: before releasing Vic (I don't think you get back the money you pay to Metzger to free him), save scum/pickpocket whatever you can get from the guards around and in the building, including Metzger himself. Then starting from the front main door and side rooms moving up to Metzger, lock all of them, including the veranda door on the left and avoiding Metzger's personal room and slave pen behind him. Then stand directly behind him, save in a different slot, initiate combat and blow a hole through his skull. Survive the other 4 guys and avoid the open window next to the door. Save, heal, unlock the door below you, wipe out the slavers in that room, rescue Vic, recruit/arm him if you want, and then clean house with the guards outside. Save the slaves if you want.
I sort of remember there being an enemy with an SMG in the original church fight, but the fight was never necessarily too hard - you just hang back and let Lara's gang do the fighting.

This might have already been said, but you can still steal metal armor and other goodies from the shopkeeper outside vault city. The trick is to first open the barter menu with the merchant, then exit dialogue and pickpocket him. The items won't appear until after you open the barter window, so this is probably a bug but nonetheless a very useful one.
Amazing video, i remember you going all sad and wanting to quit due to health issues, man it is fantastic that tour still here and bringing us this wonderfull content. I only played the new fallout 2(a couple of years ago) so all of this is the norm to me
Loved the video. That's one of my fav games, too. But I might be a Chrono Trigger fanboy at heart. I know, that's a mortal sin. Lucky me I'm not a child in Fallout. =D Also: Your kid will be a great surgeon someday. He'll remove strange objects from people's anuses. That's a useful skill nowadays.
I remember having a lot of fun with an unarmed character with 4 strength. I'd just crit people and get results like 'random-jackoff gets hit in the head for 0 hit points, the force of the blow killing him instantly'. Then I got to Frank Horrigan and there were no instakill crits, so I broke both his legs rendering him helpless and then stomping on his eyes for 1-2 hit points. I mean, I got him dead and all but I was really close to the end of the timer there. :p There is also some person in Arroyo who will train your unarmed but only if you didn't tag it and your agility is 6 or below. Probably not worth it, though. The story about the raccoons was awesome. Sounds like a perfect bit of conversation to liven up a boring family dinner.
Strength doesn't really do much for unarmed fighting (minimum of ST 5 is nice if you want to have a strong Unarmed attack, the Haymaker) so critfishing was the right call. Mega Power Fist to the eyes with Better Criticals and Slayer should get Frankie down with like 20-30 HP per punch, but he's a tough customer nonetheless.
I just finished playing through Fallout 2 last week. Absolutely loved it and it's my favorite of the old school RPG Fallout games, while New Vegas is my favorite of the 3D loot & shoot Fallout games. As for the question about the fight with Tyler at the Den, I fought him and his gang in the church. When the battle started I ran away and Lara's crew killed Tyler while I hid. Then I exited the map to the west, ending combat. I got credit for completing the quest, not sure if I got exp for the kills Lara's crew scored in combat. Made it easy though since I played a smooth talking intellectual character.
Been 4 months and gotta say this is a really helpful vid because at the start of fallout 2 I was completely lost but during fallout 1 I steamed through the game like a god so it’s nice to see someone is doing fallout 2 content
unofficial patch: *fixes various bugs and makes the game work on modern systems* also unofficial patch: "hey so you know that bug that left a really good early game item in a specific area? yeah we fixed that one" btw do you think you could do arcanum next? that game could use some more love
I would love to. I'm putting together a state of the channel video right now so it might be possible for me to do all the classic games without worrying about going broke over it. Here's to hoping.
That game got itself an updated unofficial patch not too long ago. I think the 'hard mode' optional came out, as well. I've been doing a replay myself as a grenade-lobbing hobbit thief. What a game.
Small tip in Klamath: if you do help the jerky brothers scare Torr away and save Torr you can talk to the girl at the bar and get Sulik for free. That jerky tip was sick tho I’ve never seen anyone else do that before
It's a special feeling to have played these games since the late 90's, no computer you have ever owned did not have an installation of Fallout 2 ready to be booted up... And learn something new. And smart, easier ways to beat tedious segments. I don't know to be excited to try them out, or be assblast mad. Like how I did not know you could use the mouse scroll in the inventory until LAST YEAR because you couldn't do it in Fallout 1.
There is a small trick you can do with the Nuka Cola machines (not sure if it works in this version) but if you keep getting Nuka Colas out of a machine for every 1 cap you can sell them to any vendor for much more than 1 cap giving you a massive boost in cash early or mid way threw the game as there is atleast 1 to 3 machines in every town you go to.
Best game ever. Thanks for the video. Also, there is one reason to tag unarmed. If you get the skill above 250 + Slayer, it alows you to break people wearing adv. power armor in one shot. "Navaro soldier was hit for 25 points, but unfortunately his spine was exposed to the light. Navaro soldier dies." Maybe melee can do it as well, but I didn't try.
getting the skill above 250 has nothing to do with how hard you hit or how much you crit; the amount of unarmed% you need is basically the amount that allows you to hit an Enclave guard in the eyes with 95 accuracy, which is way lower than 250.
It really is UA-cam's fault. I didn't get a notification despite having the bell on, as well email notifications, on top of always watching your videos when they come out. On top of that, it never appeared in my subscription feed, not even now
I didn't know about the patch to fight Tyler with numbers advantage, but I remember wondering if this option was possible and meant to be in the game. I save scummed that battle. It's hard, and I think there was a bug that your allies would turn on you after the battle ended, and that always pissed me off. So what I would do was pre-level a lot and run first into battle, ended it as quickly as possible without any accidental hits that would make sully and the other companion start a battle after. Also: I didn't like to gamble, so I always had little money in me at this part of the game.
You missed a few things but great video. Theres a couple of things you can do differently to save time on some of this stuff and or get more quicker, but this covers most of the bases when it comes to good advice. I would highly recommend.
For the Navarro section you can just pass a speech check with the purple robe guy and get the stuff without any conflict. Still, its good that multiple strategies work.
Funnily enough, I started fallout 2 for the third time a couple of days ago after getting stuck the first two times. At Vault City now but this will definitely come in handy
I just finished Fallout 2 for the first time... twice actually since the game was so good. Both my characters were kinda risky "late-game oriented" builds : -the first was a science/energyweapon charismatic build that couldn't do much without (braindead) companions for 95% of the game... until you become almost invincible with a Pulse Rifle and armor/implants. It took me like 2 weeks to complete the game. -I immediatly started a new game with an evil Unarmed build, rushing to Navarro for that sweet Adv Power Armor and Mega PowerFist in SF (in some easy exp). Got to level 24 (Slayer) in just a few hours of fast questing /solo grinding on the world map. Combat clearly wasn't the bright side of the game (I wish it was more "modern" and X-com/Shadowrun-like) but role-playing was incredible.
These videos are perfect for getting a new player (me) into these games. Genuinely helpful AND entertaining. You go a little too fast though so I’ve had to rewind a few times 😅
As much as I love playing fallout 2, I've never beat it... not for lack of trying mind you... after reaching San Francisco my saves always get corrupted.
Yikes, I would try the restoration patch. I haven't had any issues, lately, but you might also try a save game editor. I've heard that can fix corruptions.
@@StratEdgyProductions oh I've tried the patch, with it I got to the oil rig before it corrupted. I honestly haven't a clue why it does this for me on the steam version. I have tried playing it on different computers both Win10 and on different drives on my main PC...
Man, this game. Ive never finished it, mostly due to save corruptions, but it's really fun. I always liked to build frail characters with decent social stats because sulik is an absolute monster in the early game with almost 100 hp and really good stats and skills. I always specd speech, small guns and sneak to survive the temple and get enough stuff together to get sulik out of debt, which was always really easy when you steal vic's stuff.
I've been playing this since release and I never knew about the Nuka Cola machine, or the dried meat. A few other things too. Nice vid. I enjoyed your Elder Scrolls ones as well.
I play on an original interplay release copy. You could indeed sneak past the vault city guards. There was also another secret way in that a lvl1 with nothing could do. An interplay patch changed some things, the bethesda releases changed a lot like messing up all the music
"Combat armor" = "leather armor" both for the pugilist and the item he says not to buy. Small additional advice, you can pick pocket spiked knuckles from the dutons. Very nice weapon. Similar dmg to the spear but uses the unarmed skill and Iirc less AP.
Yeah spiked knuckles are 3AP and spear is 4AP, Also they're worth $350 each and another set will respawn in their inventory when they're on another map so you can get an easy $1400 or use one for a good starting melee weapon.
The Bear Dude Lives! The restoration project/unofficial patch was the only way you could play Fallout 2 for years. The cpu travel speed was game breaking. Did not know your could drop bait to distract animals. You always had to enter combat first to sneak into the Vault city Vault. You can walk up to the front gate of Nevaro instead of using the combat bug, its got talking heads!
For the Den ghost: I think for the restoraton patch, you have to read the diary, and then you get the option to scare Joey shitless so he gives you the locket. The diary is on the shelves next to the ghost, where the spade is lying. You also get some XP for reading it. In my latest playthrough, I did all that and the quest worked like the vanilla game, iirc. Oh, and also the gang fight: it's broken in vanilla. If you don't betray Lara, you have to kill only 1 guy in front of the door, then you can just talk to Lara and get all the rewards. It's much easier than the other option or the restoration patch version.
You should try Kenshi. It's a pretty role play heavy RPG set in a wasteland. There's factions that hate you depending on things like gender and especially race. And it has that thing you mentioned you liked in another video, numbers. You start off as a waste and you have to make yourself better to better combat the world. I think you would enjoy it. I'd talk about the role play aspect but any research into the game tells you basic roles you can take
17:00 you can also get the APA from Navarro by passing a speech check with the guy in the purple robe, Chris. You can convince him you are a conscript and he will send you in with a password. Then just follow instructions until you get to the room from the video.
the most striking thing about Fallout 2 is how genuinely vile a character you can play. It and New Vegas let you be truly, fucking villainous in ways that make sense. one of the few RPGs that avoid the "stupid evil" archetype.
You should note somewhere up front that you're playing the Restoration Project mod. This is a *_modded_* game. The version of Fallout 2 being sold on steam, gog, and bethesda are all basically the original version with the official patches plus the hi-res mod and a version of sfall mod. All the old exploits are still in there except for a few, more esoteric, ones. Also, you can still get into the vault in Vault City by pressing 4 on the map screen (even in RP mod) :)
I just wish we could get a Fallout game with the complexities and role playing of the older games, with the graphics and fidelity of modern open world games.
You're a glutton for punishment Strat, the Temple of trials is well known to be a horrendous drudge Great video, I was hoping you'd use a melee build Also you should be very proud of your son
The Raccoon joke never fails at making me fucking burst out laughing. You’re so goddamn funny and it’s ridiculous. Also my girlfriend loved the priest joke. 10/10 love yuh strat.
Minor detail but if you keep the book that you were sent to fetch in the Den instead of handing it back you can use the book to pass time reading it almost like the wait feature except you can use it to pass time in places where the wait feature is blocked.
Your memories are real trust me. I was born in 2002 and first played the game when I was 12-13 I remember being able to do all of those things. Some of these *bug* fixes should be optional. I like the extra content and everything but fuck man
Figured out how the alt tab issue. A work around involves opening up the task manager, then finding the Fallout 2 exe there. Open up the drop down, then double click on the first option. It will open the game back up.
FO2 anti-theft patch introduced security cases with bullet proof glass and electronic theft deterrent systems; it was in the patch notes - just kidding. I always try to focus on perception & endurance for action points and combat efficiency. It amazes me how many views this video got and as quickly as it did considering how old this game is - kind of inspiring, but considering the recent development of the franchise not so surprising. Tip of the hat to all the FO2 gamers stopping by. Good vid btw.
The way I got my power armor way back then is by walking through the front door of Navarro and telling the sergeant at the door that you are a recruit. They literally give you the power armor and you don't need to sneak.
Im like u and played fallout2 12 hours straight when i first got it and it has been my favorite game and my standard for all rpgs since. This is probably the only game where defeating the final boss is part of the early game strategy to min/max most efficiently, since defeating him can unlock a terminal that gives you infinite XP, allowing you to get to level 99 in about 15 minutes.
I remember when I first picked up Fallout 2, and I accidentally found out about going to Navarro. @@JoachimGradmann try ARCANUM? shit combat, but i think the reactivity is like none other.
I only played the new fallout 2(a couple of years ago) so all of this is the norm to me
I will never get that raccoon bit out of my head now.
Loved the video. That's one of my fav games, too. But I might be a Chrono Trigger fanboy at heart. I know, that's a mortal sin. Lucky me I'm not a child in Fallout. =D
Also: Your kid will be a great surgeon someday. He'll remove strange objects from people's anuses. That's a useful skill nowadays.
Who considers loving Chrono Trigger to be a cardinal sin? I'll tell you who: people you don't need in your life.
Here we are, back to my favourite game of all time!
You can cheat the final fight in the Temple of Trials by just attacking him out of dialogue with your spear.
but then he'll dieeeeee D:
@@gabrieloliveiralima3772 no, eventually he runs away
I just pickpocketed the key avoiding the fight altogether.
There is also some person in Arroyo who will train your unarmed but only if you didn't tag it and your agility is 6 or below.
I instant killed him with a single sniper shot to the head once. But that was a build specifically to max crit table effects.
The rest of this series will come out in a month or two. Sorry it took so long to come back to.
unofficial patch: *fixes various bugs and makes the game work on modern systems*
also unofficial patch: "hey so you know that bug that left a really good early game item in a specific area? yeah we fixed that one"
btw do you think you could do arcanum next? that game could use some more love
@@simondaniel4028 Full Dex and Dagger of Speed plus Time Spell is too OP, lol.
It works fine without any patch even on Win10! I got it in my Steam library, and it just works! What patch are you all talking about?
@@DartNoobo calm down.
Best content creator of 2023 . Ur funny bro . Haven’t even watched this one just been binge listening to ur content at work ! Sick work dawg
Small tip in Klamath: if you do help the jerky brothers scare Torr away and save Torr you can talk to the girl at the bar and get Sulik for free. That jerky tip was sick tho I’ve never seen anyone else do that before
Your contents amazing strat, I knew the first fallouts existed but I’ve never actualy been persuaded to take an interest in playing them until now
It's a special feeling to have played these games since the late 90's, no computer you have ever owned did not have an installation of Fallout 2 ready to be booted up...
I was 18 when F2 came out. But I consider it game of my childhood along with Flimbo's Quest.
Navaro soldier dies."
Maybe melee can do it as well, but I didn't try.
getting the skill above 250 has nothing to do with how hard you hit or how much you crit; the amount of unarmed% you need is basically the amount that allows you to hit an Enclave guard in the eyes with 95 accuracy, which is way lower than 250.
It really is UA-cam's fault. I didn't get a notification despite having the bell on, as well email notifications, on top of always watching your videos when they come out. On top of that, it never appeared in my subscription feed, not even now
The joke about eating a banana made me giggle like a school girl. I love these videos so much.
You know what's missing?
KAGA
shoot me, 5 caps
17:00 That bait is too good to skip out on
this is the only guide that made me complete fallout 1 in the 12th attempt thanks
The raccoon story was the funniest thing I've ever heard on UA-cam. Holy crap 🤣
Can't front, this actually got me to play Fallout and I'm currently in the Den having a blast playing this game. Thanks!
For the Navarro section you can just pass a speech check with the purple robe guy and get the stuff without any conflict. Still, its good that multiple strategies work.
found your channel a few weeks ago and I just put on a playlist of your vids and fall asleep your voice counter acts my tinnitus
For the kids in the Den, you can actually start combat and walk past them in turn based mode, that protects you from the steal attempts.
I wonder if theyll pickpocket armed dynamite from you
Funnily enough, I started fallout 2 for the third time a couple of days ago after getting stuck the first two times. At Vault City now but this will definitely come in handy
9:56 wow Louis from L4D actually did his way to Fallout3. That's good to know.
Hey still waiting for that part 2! Amazing video
After finishing underrail I'm giving Fallout 2 a go. This is really helpful, thanks a lot
I'm so excited for part 2, i had to pause it and come watch this one again first.
I just finished Fallout 2 for the first time... twice actually since the game was so good.
Both my characters were kinda risky "late-game oriented" builds :
-the first was a science/energyweapon charismatic build that couldn't do much without (braindead) companions for 95% of the game... until you become almost invincible with a Pulse Rifle and armor/implants.
I'm fucking ecstatic that there are still people enjoying my favorite game
I've been playing this since release and I never knew about the Nuka Cola machine, or the dried meat. A few other things too. Nice vid. I enjoyed your Elder Scrolls ones as well.
Man I have played this game over forty times, I have never seen the dry meat drop - lizard trick.
Cool
I play on an original interplay release copy. You could indeed sneak past the vault city guards. There was also another secret way in that a lvl1 with nothing could do. An interplay patch changed some things, the bethesda releases changed a lot like messing up all the music
16:28 to be honest, i thought you were about to give an ad for Raid Shadow Legends for some reason
Had a blast with this video and even learned a few new things, can't wait til the next one.
Really enjoying getting more of your videos. Thank you.
This was a good idea you should do this with all the games you play just to hang out content quicker and to give us something to watch
That huge old elder scrolls game dagger fall has an amazing video patch
I will forever watch FO2 content
I'd talk about the role play aspect but any research into the game tells you basic roles you can take
Don't forget to grab the 200 or so cash from Aunt Morlis' house.
17:00 you can also get the APA from Navarro by passing a speech check with the guy in the purple robe, Chris. You can convince him you are a conscript and he will send you in with a password. Then just follow instructions until you get to the room from the video.
Unofficial patches that change things (besides fixing bugs) aka No Fun Allowed
It amazes me that there's still stuff I don't know about this over 20 year old game, I've played for 100s of hours - Like the drymeat gecko lure 22:46
the most striking thing about Fallout 2 is how genuinely vile a character you can play.
And the game works fine without the RP mod if you want to try it sometime
Thank you for reminding me how good Fallout 2 is.
I just wish we could get a Fallout game with the complexities and role playing of the older games, with the graphics and fidelity of modern open world games.
The fact that you can drop Jerky to distract a gecko so you can sneak around is such great attention to detail
I love how the geckos look the same and act the same in each game they are in. (I know about the different types I just mean generally)
You're a glutton for punishment Strat, the Temple of trials is well known to be a horrendous drudge
Great video, I was hoping you'd use a melee build
Also you should be very proud of your son
The Raccoon joke never fails at making me fucking burst out laughing. You’re so goddamn funny and it’s ridiculous. Also my girlfriend loved the priest joke. 10/10 love yuh strat.
Going back and liking your videos because of your new video 👍
Amazing, i also do a playtrough a year and i never knew about that trick with the jerky....
Part 2 anytime soon please? :D
I love how FO2 is so big you only get through 3 towns in video 1
Minor detail but if you keep the book that you were sent to fetch in the Den instead of handing it back you can use the book to pass time reading it almost like the wait feature except you can use it to pass time in places where the wait feature is blocked.
holy crap, it's been decades and I never knew those nuka machines actually work...
Your memories are real trust me. I was born in 2002 and first played the game when I was 12-13 I remember being able to do all of those things. Some of these *bug* fixes should be optional. I like the extra content and everything but fuck man
No way bro. Having the Mac party size made my Fallout 2 experience.
The early fallout games, F1 F2 and fnv bring me great peace.
Temple of trials is the only thing holding me from replaying this game nowdays
Sneak and/or run thru. Dont gotta kill any insects 👍🏻
I really enjoy your content i feel like we would be friends if we knew eachother....that sounded creepy 😕 oh well thats just me. But anyways keep up the content i love how u look at games intelligently and put alot of comedy in so they grind content doesnt get to undigestable...anyway i am gonna help on the patreon u can count on me rock on brotha!!!!
About that cheese : if you take the robe from the dude, you can navigate safely through Navarro
I actually went into stomach bursting laughter after that joke.
This is probably the only game where defeating the final boss is part of the early game strategy to min/max most efficiently, since defeating him can unlock a terminal that gives you infinite XP, allowing you to get to level 99 in about 15 minutes.
